Steading of the Hill Giant Chief

"Well, Korgazhar," the elf said to the half-orc, "command the bastards."
Oct 17, 2019 3:00 am
"I'm Korgazhar, war chief of the Broken Bone clan. I'm here to destroy these giants. You will need our help. Take us to your boss now!" The half-orc spoke with an air of authority, and brooked no disagreement as he moved into the tunnel.

Appropriately impressed, Ælfric followed.

Fernal follows with her arms folded across her chest.

Eyes going wide at the arrival of Korgazhar, the remaining orc stutters and stammers in a halting, guttural orcish before giving way and leading you all to the east. A couple of smaller tunnels branch off to the left and right, but you are brought into a rough-hewn cavern lit by numerous, smokey tiki torches stuck into the floor and walls all around. To call the place squalid would be an understatement, as you look upon a small tribe of orcs.

Most are thin, emaciated from the lack of food and unwholesome confines under the giant fort above them. There are many females and young orcs about, though as you arrive they are shuttled off deeper into the cavern complex. The sturdier, warrior types gather behind the one that must be the leader.

"You bring death to Argtung's people. Gruumsh will gaze his lone eye upon you bring vengeance!" the orc says in a very good common tongue. As he speaks those gathered around tap their spears and weaponry on the dirt floor in agreement, guttural sounds passing back and forth as they stand (somewhat) bravely behind the leader.

Argtung is heavily muscled, a stark contrast to those living here with him, and he has the best of the weapons and armor. He wears a patch over one eye, perhaps in homage to his one-eyed patriarch and his hair is braided with the bones of his conquests.
OOC:
From the map, you see that Ligeia is still at the blocked entry. I'm waiting to see what Julian says/does, but you can assume that you grabbed the weapons from him and have them with you.

Korgazhar Persuasion/Intimidation - (2d20+4)

(1411) + 4 = 29

Believing that Korgazhar was best suited to deal with these orcs, Julian took on a supportive role, casting guidance upon him and standing ready to add a dramatic flair via thaumaturgy should his ally decide to put on a display of power.
OOC:
Korgazhar can add guidance to any skill checks he makes from here on, until I need to concentrate on something or I'm otherwise unable to cast it on him. Just add 1d4 to whatever you do.

Would anything short of polymorphing my Pegasus be enough to have gotten her through the gap? Perhaps catapulting one or two of the larger stones or something would have been enough to allow her passage?

"If Gruumsh brings death so easily, how are you still alive then?" Korgazhar sought to understand how the orcs managed to survive for so long. "I find your cowardly brothers in cells along the corridor, too afraid to even escape when I commanded them to. If you all have lost the will to fight, then you are of no use to me."

The half-orc threw the weapons they had brought along to the ground in front of them. "Howeverf, if you still want to live, then rally the tribe, take up these arms, show me where the rest of them are, and how to release them, and tell me whether there are any other passages and tunnels from which we can mount an attack to take down the giants."

To his own party, in a lower voice, "Whether this happens or not, let's take this opportunity to catch our breath and make plans. It's the first break from fighting we've had since the jail cells."
OOC:
To get Ligeia, could we mobilise a couple of orcs to open up the barricade sufficiently? That is, if the orcs agree to what Korgazhar is persuading/intimidating them to do.

As Korgazhar finishes speaking, Dwendylin mutters a soft prayer behind him and lays a hand upon him, while clasping her holy symbol.
OOC:
Hope it's not too late for this, but Dwen casts 'Enhance ability - Eagle's Splendor' on Korgazhar, granting advantage on Charisma checks.

As the beefy half orc begins to talk some sense into the poor sods before them, Ambrosia adds a little flair to the speech with a small crescendo of his halo to match his teammate's inspiring call to arms.
OOC:
Sorry this week has me really busy. If it's not too late I'd like to spend my fourth Bardic Inspiration to give Korg a d10 to spend on one ability check/attack of his choosing for the next 10 minutes.

OOC:
No, the tunnel collapse blocked the entire tunnel, and trying to move the rocks would create more of a collapse. Additionally, there is pursuit coming from the north.

Korgazhar
The orc chieftain regards you with his one eye, staring you down for a moment before blinking. He looks around his tribe, sweeping an arm one way and then the next.

"Women. Children. Few warrior to stand against the giant-kin. Slaves beaten. Not able to fight. Thrown in locked rooms and fed their own dead. Orc fight! Orc die!" he says defiantly.

Pausing, you can see the bravado pull back a bit as he regards the weaponry offered, something the other warrior orcs gathered seem to be eyeing as well. Looking back to Korgazhar, Argtung says "We are few, but we fight. But only to leave this place. Women. Children. Go to mountains and never return."

Ælfric certainly understood the situation with the children... but the women? Surely the orc women could fight.

"Elf women would fight," he thought as he checked back the way they came with an arrow readied.
Oct 23, 2019 11:03 am
"So, no more useful orc prisoners anywhere? What about other exits from these caverns? If the answer is no to both questions, then it's time to fight, and time to die. Women and children too." Korgazhar held up a bunch of spears and raised them to the orcs gathered. "They are almost here. They come in, we kill them off."
Oct 23, 2019 9:15 pm
OOC:
To get a better understanding, where can we assume the reinforcements are coming from? I know its to the North but assuming they're headed straight for us would they need to pass through the partially collapsed tunnel as far as we can tell?

Also should I mark off the Bardic Inspiration die that i was going to give to Korg or not? I mentioned it a little earlier.

Fernal seems to be idle and walking slightly mindless as chatter is exchanged. Best you tell she really isn't paying attention. She has her silver dagger out and a whet stone. Working it some as she walks.
Oct 23, 2019 10:03 pm
"Let us stand together!" Dwendylin bashes her shield with her mace, hoping to stir some fire within these orcs.

The chieftan, Argtung, seems to weigh the words spoken to him by the party and you can see the resolve in his eyes as he comes to his conclusion.

"No exits. maybe water, but is too far to swim with no breath. Our children are not yet warriors; some wish, but it is not yet so. We can fight. Or keep hidden until the giant-kin tire of looking for us, as before."

Stooping to pick up the offered weapons, he begins to pass the spears to his warriors, ordering them to give the women weapons as well. As he does so, you can hear a commotion back down the tunnel where you crawled through the collapsed rock. An orc guard comes running up, claiming that there are ogres and giants on the far side. Apparently something down there has them rather excited.
OOC:
@Ambrosia - no, Korg never needed your inspiration die, so you can reclaim it. Per the map, you all came down the tunnel to the east. The giants were coming down the main hallway north, so you could assume they attempted to follow you.

Fernal puts away her silver dagger and whet stone. See. She draws out her rapier and flames it up. Then she walks back to hall where the collapse is. From the end of the hallway, she peers down to the collapse portion for any activity.
