Moving back down the hallway, you see that another orc is peering through the fallen rock to see if he can make out what is going on the side of the fall. As you approach, he waves frantically for you do douse the flame that is shedding light around you.

Fernal turns off her flaming sword and listens.

Peering through the rock, you see the giants and ogres peering through the rock as well as the nearby tunnels, apparently looking for you. However, the light from behind them apparently shields you from their sight, and so they don't look for very long. Behind them, however, you can see they have ripped one of the wings from Ligeia, Julian's winged mount. The once-mighty steed looks to be on deaths door as a giant drags the slumped body back into the northern tunnel.

Fernal waits there till the way beyond the rocks is clear before she move to turn to the party with the news.

"Damned horse shouldn't have been down here in the first place." Korgazhar knew the pegasus played its part, but wasn't about to admit it. "So now we have some respite, good." He moved further into the caverns, "Rest, regroup, prepare for next move."
Oct 31, 2019 12:31 pm
The chieftain sends a pair of orcs to monitor the rock fall, leaving you all some time to contemplate your next move.
OOC:
Short or long rest? Or at least attempt them? Sorry I was gone yesterday. Busy day at the office followed by my youngest's birthday.
Nov 1, 2019 4:29 pm
OOC:
I'd like to suggest we try for a long rest. If we get interrupted we can always try to teleport.
Nov 1, 2019 6:35 pm
OOC:
Seconded. We can get a watch going while helping the orcs prepare for battle.

OOC:
Long rest sounds great! Spell slots looking skimpy.
"It's not ideal, but I think this is as safe as it gets for now, considering we are in enemy territory. Shall we make some semblance of camp?" Dwendylin offers up the suggestion then looks over to the passage where the rocks caved in. "We should be safe for now. In the mean time I will commune with the shining one to conjure nourishment and ward our resting place." She looks over to the orcs and speaks. "Do you have any containers for food and water?"
OOC:
Planning to use my last 5th level slot to cast Guardian of Faith in the tunnel just before the camp site, but not directly in front of the cave in where the enemy can see it through the rocks. About 20 feet away still, so that we can at least be alerted if the guardian attacks something. Also planning to use my last 3rd level slot to cast Create Food and Water to feed the group and as many of the orcs as possible. Will share rations if necessary to get everyone fed.

OOC:
I should have stated. Who will be on first watch, if anyone? The orcs typically have a couple at the rock fall.
Nov 1, 2019 10:14 pm
"Korgazhar should liaise with our new orc allies for now, get to know them better. I will watch first. Just make sure the orcs near the rocks with me don't get hungry for elf during that time, Korgazhar, or at all," Ælfric said as he stroked his rapier.

OOC:
Nice move, feeding the orcs will help.
Now that they had a moment to make camp and secure their safety for a while, and with the orcs fed and armed, Korgazhar sat Argtung down to review their options.

"We will deal with the giants soon. Give me all the information you have on this entire place. I want to know how many of you, where the rest of the tribe are, in which cells. I want to know what is in the caverns north and south of here..." The half-orc made the orc leader describe and repeat every single detail, and noted them down on the map Julian had drawn for them before they embarked on this mission.
OOC:
We already have the lower level map from Julians' scrying, so I'm just fleshing out all the intel of the entire surroundings. We'll then make plans!

Dwendylin
As you commune, conjuring the desired food, water and guardians, a sense of warmth and peace flow over you. You feel as if you are bathing in a warm light, shielding you from harm, the elements, from everything. Such love you have never known in your life as you realize He is smiling upon you.

Try though you may, scarcely two-hours into your sleep, you are wakened by the orcs. "Giant-kin never rest." the orc chieftan says as he grunts directions to his warriors.

A quick investigation reveals that the giants are, indeed, working on something on the other side of the rock fall. It appears as though they have moved the forge bellows to the far side, pointing the nozzle into the cracks and crevices.
OOC:
You can effectively take a short rest, but not a long.
Nov 5, 2019 2:55 am
"They mean to burn us all to a crisp?" Ælfric plainly asked. "We can't stay here but we can't teleport all these orcs to safety, either. We may have to attack the giants directly before they start blasting us with flame."
Nov 5, 2019 3:16 pm
"Or smoke us out." Korgazhar turned back to Argtung, "Finish up what you were describing to me, quick."
OOC:
Can Argtung answer any of the questions or provide all the details Korgazhar asked for earlier?

Rolling 3 HD of hit point recovery. Now at 90/94.

Upon being made aware of the giant's plan, Julian mentally rebuked himself. He knew the perfect spell to deal with the threat, but had not thought to prepare it during his daily rituals. He didn't fear for his own safety, or that of his allies, but if the bellows could be taken out of the equation then they might just be able to make use of the orcs.

(As a note, Ligeia vanishes when dropping to 0, and doesn't "die" per say. Like a familiar, she can be re-summoned if I find someone else to donate a Find Greater Steed spell into my ring)
OOC:
Rolling Hit Dice for short rest. Using Arcane Recovery to regain a 3rd and 2nd level spell slot.

University has been hell, but the load is finally starting to lighten. Should be able to resume posting regularly now.

"There," the chieftan says pointing north, "are caves unfit for children. The lizards are harmless but give us eggs when we can steal them. A hole leads down, but I do not know to where."

"There," he continues, this time pointing south, " are the runts. The troglodytes. Small, chewy when overcooked, but harmless as well. They axe the walls thinking to dig their worthless carcasses to freedom."
