Steading of the Hill Giant Chief

The bugbears are slow to react to your entry, and Aelfric's ghostly hand grabs the striker and moves it toward the entry door and out passed Fernal, who twists just enough to allow the padded stick passage. Streaking passed the Wood Elf, Korgazhar lunges at the guard near the gong, his glaive sinking into it's flesh as it rips through hide, chain and leather to do so.

The bugbear is staggered for a moment, more from the force of the hit than actual damage, and it does not fall. With a roar, it brings its morningstar to bear.
OOC:
Two misses and a hit by Korghazar for 10 HP damage. Doubled to 20 due to Orcish Fury.

Seeing that Korghazar had wounded but not slain the creature, Julian extended his hand toward it, muttering words of arcane power. The faint sound of a dolorous bell can be heard by those near the bugbear as its wounds begin to fester and bleed profusely as a result of Julian's spell.
OOC:
Wisdom save DC 17 or 13 damage.

Julian
The sound of a resonating bell erupts around the wounded bugbear, and you see its eyes narrow, jaw grinding and the hold on its weapon tightening. With a half snarl, half grin, it ignores the effects of your spell and focuses its attention on the orc before him/

Bugbear Wisdom Save - (1d20+1)

(14) + 1 = 15

Guess it is time for Fernal.
She launches herself at the wounded Bugbear in the process she flames up her rapier, but not with rage. And strikes with bonus action.

FYI, the wounded bugbear is toward the back of the cell block, and there is one on this side as well. If you pass by the bugbear, since his 'turn' has come and gone, he is now allowed a reaction and will get an OOO on Fernal should she pass by him.

I see then she will beat on the first one she comes to.. :)

Crappy rolls. DM, can I still declare to use my Action Surge for an extra attack action, before the bugbear's turn?
May 1, 2019 3:46 am
OOC:
I'll allow it... but really you should have declared prior. Given the forum, however, I think it a reasonable request.
May 1, 2019 11:17 am
OOC:
I should declare it prior though, that's fairer. Will plan better in future, damn these pesistent bugbears. :D
Annoyed that his attacks, and even Julian's spell did not finish off the bugbear, Korgazhar renewed his fury and relentlessly hewed at the bugbear with all his might, determined to bring it down, and the one next to him as well.
OOC:
Using Action Surge to take an attack action, with extra attack. Will attack the second bugbear if the first one finally falls.

Edit: argh more crappy rolls, next turn then

Korgazhar realizes that the bugbear guards are stronger and tougher than the average sort you have met in the past. Even with the renewed vigor of your attack, the burly beast wards off your blows rather easily.

Disregard the attacks below... the only attack that goes off is the AOO on Fernal, which misses
Fernal
Flashing past the first bugbear guard, which tries to impale the you on its javelin, you take advantage of the otherwise distracted bugbear and quickly thrust your rapier into it's throat. A quick jab, twist and pull rips its throat open and in a gurgling heap the guard falls to the floor.

Seeing its comrade fall, the first guard begins bellowing for help. "Keeper! Keeper! Come quickly! We are under attack! Keeper! Sound the alarm!!" it screams in broken common mixed with giantish.

Julian grunted in frustration when the bugbears screams filled the corridor. They hadn't been fast enough. He should have incapacitated the both of them immediately, rather than risk the two of them calling out for aid if his companions were not able to slay them fast enough. No matter. He could fix this, hopefully. A brief wave of the hand, and a few words, and perhaps he could mind trick the bugbear into salvaging this situation for them. "The dead one was trying to free the prisoners. We simply helped you stop him. Tell your boss, but do not mention us or reveal our presence to him. We were never here." At the same time, he moved into the cell block, ordering Ligeia to do the same. Perhaps they could prevent the alarm from being raised, and hide until the danger had passed.

(7) + 1 = 8

Julian
Immediately on completion of your suggestion, the bugbear stops and looks around at those in the hallway.

"Good you came. Thank for help. Dugzot go crazy, try to let prisoner go! Black witch not happy with that, kill us all!" he says, lowering the morning star which he had just brought to bear after his failed javelin attacks.

In the pause, you hear nothing from the rest of the complex, the alarm seemingly fallen on deaf ears.
May 3, 2019 7:45 pm
Julian breathed a sigh of relief as the bugbear ceased his cries. He'd thought his cries would surely raise some sort of alarm, but it appears they'd been lucky enough to remain undetected. He shared a knowing look with Aelfric, Korgazhar, and Fernal, nodding slightly and hoping they'd know what do do next.

Even as Julian's spell calmed the bugbear who lowered his weapon, Korgazhar did not hesitate, and thrust his weapon viciously at the beast even as it muttered its bewildered words.

Attack on the bugbear caught Fernal off guard. She was in hesitate mode. But seeing what most likely is dead or dying bugbear she instead looks to the cell doors. Is it possible to look into them or is the doors solid?
