"Damnit. None of you saw that!"

Dozer frantically wiped his arm around, worried that the hook might grab the track and yank him out. Fortunately it didn't, and the winch spooled the rope up cleanly.

As the SUV started to powerslide, though, Dozer dropped back in and, upon seeing the ever approaching gate, shielding his eyes.

Eye protection, I keep forgetting to bring eye protection.

Looking up when the expected splinters didn't come, though, he saw the expert drift Sebastian pulled off.

"Pah, sure, whatever," Dozer muttered as he leaned back out the window. He aimed the grapple again, this time determined to get it.

A breath.

A push...

OOC:
Woohoo! That seems to be a nice development cause I was kinda afraid the adrenaline would take over at some point. Now, about Boarding the train, sounds easier to just do the acrobatics so I'll go with that
Sebastian was quite amazed at the fact that they caught up with the train, they were actually doing a good job and he was pleased with his driving... even feeling proud of it... a smirk in his face was clearly visible for those around, which at that moment was just Cho apparently, the frozen man that hasn't said anything at all.

As soon as he noticed that Dozer was leaving the car and making room for him to do what he was supposed to, he decided that it was just about time to do the same before getting closer to next station which was approaching... adrenaline had him pumped and all but he was enjoying and in control of his actions without just losing his mind at the rush and excitement that this was bringing to him.

"At this range is better to just jump over to the train!" He shouted at Dozer as he just began his boarding... most of his words were muffled though due to the wind coming inside to the car... he didn't know if he heard but just looked back at Cho "Take the wheel now! I am about to jump and the train over there!" Trying to keep the car in line until Cho gets to the wheel, he placed the car in cruise mode and then prepared himself close to the passanger's seat "Time is running out Cho! It's your time now! LATER!" with that being said, he just followed Dozer but not with the grappling gun but instead with just a jump to board hoping to get to the joint of the carts of the train where he would just get to the passanger's car easily or take the service ladder to the upper part in order to walk to the right cart where the hacker was.

Silver Star - First Class Car
Beatrice's looked to the woman as she ejected the round in the chamber of her gun, pulled out the magazine and removed the slide*.

"Ma'am, some people are trying to hijack the train. There may be more of them so the safest thing for you to do would be to go back into your berth, lock the door and let the authorities take care of this."

She went to pocket the loose round and magazine but grumbled something under her breath when they wouldn't fit and instead stuffed them into a side pouch on her backpack. She then threw the two pieces of the pistol towards opposite ends of the car.

Stooping down to retrieve the other thug's pistol, she raised her voice to address the rest of the car she was in. And that goes for the rest of you in here, too! Keep your door locked and your head down!

Looking at the one thug, Beatrice realized he could become an issue later so she fished a couple zip ties out of her back pack and used them to bind his legs and hands behind his back.
OOC
I have a forte in handguns so I am assuming I know how to do this.

Impress / Persuasion to convince the other passengers to stay in their respective berths and lock the doors. It does have the Crowd tag so I can do them all at once. Assuming 1 person per berth (4 people), there is a -4 on the check, +1 error and takes 2d4 rounds.

Edit: I modified one section above because I remembered my female friend always complaining that woman's clothes don't have decent pockets.

Silver Star - First Class Car (interior)

The frightened woman could only nod as Beatrice explained the situation, her eyes widening in horror at the thought of locking herself in the cabin with the rapidly cooling body on the floor whose blood and brain matter was slowly inching it's way down the window where it had splattered on exit. The other passengers, upon hearing the gunshot, had slowly peeked out of their doors only to rapidly retreat back into their rooms at seeing someone lying prone in the corridor with a click of their locks.

Emptying the Russians pockets provided little in the way of immediate information, though both were carrying cell phones along with their pistols. Securing the extra ammo in her backpack and ensuring the one in the corridor wouldn't be a problem later should he regain consciousness, Beatrice was afforded a few minutes to take stock of her situation ...

Silver Star - First Class Car (exterior)

This time Dozer found his mark, the grapple taking hold, the wench easy carrying him across the distance between the car and train.

Utilizing his FBI training, Sebastian took a few deep and calming breaths to slow his rapidly beating heart, the thrill of the chase and prospect of jumping on a moving train that threatened to overwhelm him subsiding with each exhale and leaving his mind to focus on the task at hand.

"Check, check," came Agent Cho's voice over he and Dozer's headset, "I'll get back on the road and follow in the car." He grabbed the wheel and held the speeding SUV steady as Sebastian climbed out the window to expertly jump onto the train. "Be advised. The local PD has been alerted and we are trying to keep from interfering until we know the situation inside but there have been reports of an active shooter in the last car."

Peering through the rear door window Dozer could see the body of a male lying face down on the floor with his hands behind his back apparently restrained and a young woman with a leather backpack standing in the corridor that otherwise is empty.
OOC:
Whitmore - Beatrice will have a few minutes before Dozer and Sebastian's arrival. Most of the passengers from what Beatrice can tell are doing as she suggested.

RusVal / Vex - So hopefully as is clear from my post. Timing wise you are showing up a few minutes after Beatrice took out the two thugs so her fight was going on while you all were racing to catch up to the train and the subsequent Chase Dramatic Conflict

Vex - Keep in mind as you post for Sebastian that he has no idea there are any 'allies' on the train. And since Sebastian is on the side he can't see Beatrice nor the thug restrained on the floor

RusVal - Keep in mind that though Dozer knows there is a friendly on the train he doesn't know any specifics. And 'Beatrice' looks more IT gal than dangerous.
Apr 22, 2019 10:31 pm
Dozer felt the thunk as the grapple hit its mark.

"Ha," he let out, his slightly bruised ego redeemed slightly.

Pulling himself out more, Dozer then pressed the back of the mechanism, and the winch went to work. Pushing off, he zipped over to the door. As his feet landed on the ledge, and he gripped the door with his right hand, he couldn't help letting out a little "Hee hee" with a big dumb grin. He then looked back as he heard Sebastian shouting.

Dude, I gave you a headset for a reason.

The grin returned though as Sebastian then expertly jumped over to one of the side doors.

Yeah yeah showoff. Try doing that while wearing full kit next time.

The grin subsided when he looked in through the window, however, as Cho came in over the radio.
Quote:
"Be advised. The local PD has been alerted and we are trying to keep from interfering until we know the situation inside but there have been reports of an active shooter in the last car."
OOC:
EDIT
Seuss says:
It will change what Dozer saw. Body still there and zip tied ... no woman.
Suddenly Dozer's mind clicked. Combat was brewing.

"Confirmed, got eyes on. There's a man tied up on the floor, can't get a look at his face. Don't see anyone else."

Reaching up with his left arm, Dozer "punched" the winch into the grapple hook, disengaging the mechanism. Grabbing the door with his now freed left hand, he then grabbed his rifle from its sling with his right.

"Right, making my way in now."

He slowly opened the door, rifle ready just in case.

Silver Star - First Class Car
"Ma'am, if you would you feel more comfortable you could wait in my berth in the far back," she said pointing towards her berth's door. She kept one eye on the woman in case she tried to do something stupid as she moved up to the front door leading to the adjoining car.

She slipped the dossier out of her backpack and took a good, long, hard look at the picture of Kevin Medroff and tried to commit his face to memory. She put the dossier back and contemplated whether it was time to fire up the jammer but she knew that, as soon as she did, everyone would know something was up so she decided against it for now.

Sighing, she peered through the window to the adjoining car looking for trouble before sliding the door aside and carefully making her way forward.
OOC
Seuss mentioned I had a few minutes before Dozer arrived so I am working off of that.

As far as Stephen knows in character, he is on his own so he is not expecting any kind of backup and is going to press onward.

From the pictures I have seen, passing between each car requires passing through 2 doors; one to exit the current car and another to enter the next. It also looks like there is set of windows in each door and an accordion like hall that connects the cars to protect passengers from falling off between cars.

So the procedure is to peek through the window into the connector (or the next car if I am lucky) for trouble. If no trouble is seen, sneak through the connector to the next car and check through those windows for trouble in the next car.

Since it is unlikely there are 10 people in the connector where she is sneaking, this will use Dexterity.

Edit: Sneak is untrained so the cap is 15. Hmm, I should probably include the cap in the Reason section of the rolls so I don't need to add these edits.

Office of Special Assignments - Miami, FL

The serious, yet sultry visage of Special Agent Daniela Flores expanded into existance in the lower corner of the bank of screens Jay was monitoring.

"Sitrep," she said in way of greeting.

"I've been monitoring the train from local traffic and security cams," he responded, his eyes never leaving the activity on the screens, "the FBI is or was rather in pursuit and local law enforcement has also been notified."

"What do you mean WAS, in pursuit?"

"Two agents have boarded the train."

"Boarded the train? While it was moving?"

"While it was moving."

A small smile tugged at the corners of Jay's lips as he saw the image of Dani tap her lips thoughtfully. "Call Ellie ... I want her on scene ASAP. Contact Agent Witting, we're taking over this investigation ... this hacker has been on our radar for a while so we have the authority," she ordered as her mind refocused on the present. "And scrub any references of terrorist, terrorism, hijacking, etcetera from social media ... I don't want Pitfall sticking their noses in as I'd like to limit the amount of collateral damage," she said before her image winked out.

Looking up from his laptop screen and pushing his glasses back up the bridge of his nose he began snapping to the only other occupant of his small suite, pointing to the police scanner once he has the gentlemen's attention.

"I thought your men were handling the passengers," he exclaimed worriedly.

"I assure you they are," came the thick Russian accented reply.

"Then how do you explain that," he said with another emphatic gesture towards the scanner, "how else would the local police know of our presence."

"Mudak," he grumbled in an unsuccessful attempt to hide the anger and contempt from his face, "Maybe the FBI contacted the locals when you taunted them."

Pulling out his phone he exited the cabin, leaving the 'pedant' to his computer.
Silver Star - Coach Car

With a vigorous nod of appreciation and one last shocked glance at the dead man on the floor the woman practically ran to Beatrice's berth at the rear of the train, the door sliding shut with extra force that was followed by the telltale click of the lock engaging.

Fixing the image of Kevin Medroff, the hacker, in her mind before momentarily considering activating the jammer, Beatrice slowly made her way to the door that would take her to the next car and the front of the train. Glancing through the window she could see the next car was a coach car ... and packed full of people. Certainly more people than there were seats and all looking at each other nervously. No one seemed to notice her entry into the car, a dull whispered buzz of voices and nervous energy permeated the interior that was suddenly pierced with Russian folk music coming from her backpack. The passengers closest to her jumped and turned with a start as she quickly dug out the phone. The caller ID read босс {boss}, "Passazhir v bezopasnosti {Are the passengers secure}?"

Beatrice kind of crushed the opposed roll so I added a bit of helpful information at the end. Beatrice knows from the itinerary that the next train stop at Hollywood Station (Hollywood, FL north of Miami) is at this point probably 10-15 minutes away. Beatrice racked her brain looking for a better solution to this problem but nothing was forthcoming.

There just isn't enough time to finesse anything. It'd take too long to remotely hack his computer. There is only one way forward . . . Another idea passed through her mind but she quickly shook her head and rejected it. No, I am not climbing across the roof of this train. She sighed. Well, no use delaying any longer, Bea, you know what you need to do.

Beatrice pulled off her backpack, unzipped it, reached inside, turned on the jammer, removed a spare magazine and he 2 thumb drives before zipping it back up. She then added the backpack to the jumble of luggage and carry-ons in the overhead racks, tucking it away as inconspicuously as possible.

Ignoring the fearful looks the passengers gave her as she moved through the car carrying a loaded weapon, she crept up to the next door to peer through the window.
OOC

OK, I started the jammer which is going to kill almost all wireless communications including radios, cell phone, and, hopefully, his satellite uplink.

The jammer is PR 4 with a 500 foot range increment. It reduces signal strength by 4 minus 1 per range increment, so -4 at up to 500 feet, -3 at up to 1000 feet, etc. If this reduces the signal strength to 0, the device ceases to function.

If she does not see any of the thugs in the next connector she'll slip through the door and check the next window, repeating that process until she either spots something or is spotted in turn.

If she spots someone through one of the windows and is NOT spotted in return, she'll take the minute to attempt a quick ambush. My Tactics / Ambush is +2 (Cap 15) and is a secret check so I will leave that to you to roll if required.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa ... something's happened," Kevin's whiny voice pierced the otherwise quiet of the empty car, "I've lost the WiFi and my satellite uplink strength has decreased significantly. Are you sure everything is okay back there?

Eyes narrowing in annoyance, Alec pulled his cell phone from his pocket with a few mumbled Russian expletives. His irritation grew at seeing his phone had zero bars, "Keep working, I'll check it out" ...
Silver Star - Rear Coach Car

Seeing her options quickly dwindling, Beatrice activated the jammer in her backpack before carefully stashing it away in the overhead bin and pushed forward through the crowded car, fearful whispers following. Oh my god ... was that a bomb in the backpack? Did she have a gun? We're all going to die!

The whispers were quickly drowned out as she slipped out of the car onto the platform between the cars. Peering in the next car she could see it was full of passengers and just as full as the car she exited, perhaps more so. The fearful passengers eyes widened as she entered, their gaze drifting towards the gun before darting away and those in the aisle shying away.

On the next platform she could see two men standing to either side of the door, armed with shotguns, with two more sitting on the armrests of the coach seats facing each other and laughing in conversation. She was torn from her observations by a violent bang on the window, one of the thugs face filling the window, "Back to rear cars," he growled in contempt as his eyes drifted to the gun he her hand.

"Pistolet!" he yelled in warning, his eyes widening in horror.

As Dozer and Sebastian carefully entered the rear car, the only oddity the body lying zipped tied on the floor. Suddenly the silence was pierced by a shrill hum in their ear before silence, their radio headsets apparently dead ...

"HQ, looks like the body's out like a light. Don't think it's a hostage. Going toACK!!"

Flinching, Dozer reflexively yanked his headset back as his headset gave a shrill hum. He put them back equally reflexively as they went silent.

"Shit, something's going down! MOVE, GOGOGO!!" he shouted to Sebastian as he dashed to the door.

I am pulling information from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amfleet

and here: http://www.craigmashburn.com/amtrakcardiagrams.html

to help me picture this in my head. I am assuming this would be a single level Amfleet I Coach as this is on the East Coast and not an overnight train. The wiki page shows Amtrak car width as 10ft 6in.

Also, if I am understanding this correctly, I am in the connector and just on the other side of the door in the coach car, through the window, I can see 2 shotgun thugs and 2 more thugs seated further down in that same coach car.

So, if I win initiative, I am going to take 2 shots with my pistol and then 5 ft. bonus step to the left side of the door against the forward wall to give them the crappiest angle to shoot back as possible. Given the size of the train, if they enter the connector they'd be in my melee range and impose up to a -8 penalty to hit me.

If I lose initiative I'll probably do the same unless I get shot up badly from their shotguns before my turn. Then I might start retreating but that would put other passengers in harms way so I don't want to do that unless it looks hopeless to stay.

I never asked what pistol they were using so I have no idea what damage to use if I actually hit them through their cover.

These Russian goons, unlike their brethren Beatrice had dispatched earlier, seemed more alert and cognizant of the potential threat the passengers could present bringing their shotguns to bear before she could get her own pistol raised. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM the shotgun blasts filled the confines of the car and connector, Beatrices ears ringing even as she was showered in glass, the concussive force of the combined shots taking her breath away.

The other two were now on their feet, pistols in hand and clearly now just figuring out that their cell phones were jammed.

Beatrice's shot blasted the cell phone out of the confused thug's hand before taking him in the chest, her second striking the seat just below the other's bottom. The Russian's wide eyed gazed dropped to the bullet sized hole, then to his comrade bleeding out on the floor, before staring at the door in horror just a Beatrice slid to the side.

"Zvat' na pomoshch {call for help}" came an angry command from one of the gunman followed by four more shotgun reports that showered her in shrapnel from the car's flimsy door and glass.

She glimpsed the other goon exit the rear of the car, clearly going for backup ...
Silver Star - Rear First Class Car

The rushing whistle of the wind subsided with a bang of the train cars metal sliding door as Sebastian entered, rubbing at his ear with a pained expression and understanding as he too could tell that the dead radios meant something was amiss. Dozer, eager for action took off, suspecting that the jammed radios may be due to interference caused by his contact.

The passengers reacted like startled deer as he came charging in, his gruff baritone shattering the otherwise quiet car. Their fear was quickly replaced at seeing his FBI lettering and his voiced confirmation, relief evident as the passengers began to crowd around he and Sebastian in a flood of questions. No stranger to combat, Dozer's ears picked up what could only be the sound of a shotgun being discharged only to be confirmed seconds later ...
OOC:
I've emailed and PM'd Vex but have not got a response back so I will control Sebastians actions I guess until I get an official word back. Avenger has got back to me and has RL stuff so he may/may not be back for this mission ... but anyway.

Whitmore - My apologies I meant to post this earlier but the weapon is a Colt 1911

Colt M1911A1 (dmg 1d12, error 1, threat 19-20, ammo 7M7, recoil 11, range 25 ft., SZ/Hand D/1h, qualities DEP, TKD) with standard ammunition load,

Beatrice is now down to 4 VP ... the dice roller really loved the thugs for some reason. Though come to think of it it was loving everybody today since you killed one thug and made all your saving throws to avoid becoming sprawled from the shotgun blasts. It is now your second turn ... all the Russians have acted this round (the two shooting at you thru the cover and the other one running off for help)

RusVal - You have heard the gunfight ... you are 1-2 cars away

Vex - Same deal as RusVal

I'll just leave this here.
Dozer barely had any time to attempt waving people back to let him and Sebastian through when the shotgun sound thundered.

"DAMNIT!" he shouted before yelling over his shoulder "Stay down!!" towards the passengers as he dashed to the next door.
Quickly shoving the first door to the side, he brought his rifle up to his shoulder as he stepped up to the second...

Silver Star - Coach Car
Beatrice ducked down trying to avoid the barrage of glass and gunfire. "That didn't work, I really need a plan B," she said through to herself ragged breath before peeking through the window and squeezing off a couple more rounds.
OOC

I am taking one shot at each thug and I am going to roll these one at a time because I will likely add action dice if something looks close and it really isn't fair to be able to add action dice after damage is rolled.

So post in progress, to be edited . . .

And that is it, all out of action dice.

Silver Star - Coach Car

Like the Red Sea, the terrified passengers parted before Dozer and Sebastian, providing a clear lane through the train car and the next. Through the window leading into the tight corridor between the car they were in and the next they could see what appeared to be a passenger, a young woman, cowering down in the corner just below the door, the pistol in her hand having little effect deterring the two men with shotguns standing in the next car.

As they brought their shotguns to bear on the woman, Sebastian slid the door aside and shoving his gun through the opening and identifying his self as a federal agent as he did. His first shot ricocheted of the car door into the ceiling as the second took the man in the chest.

The second man looked on in horror as his companion collapsed to the floor in a heap, shotgun shifting to the new threat with consecutive booms that sent Sebastian falling back in a shower of metal and glass.
OOC:
RusVal - I took the liberty of rolling initiative for you and it is now your turn. You see a young woman holding a pistol and finding what cover she can to the side of the door closest to the man with the shotgun. The man with the shotgun has 1/2 cover and is in the next car in a similar position to the woman (as in doing his best to find what cover he can). Sebastian took out one of the men but is now sprawled at your feet.

Whitmore - It is your turn as well, describe your actions. You see a bearded man standing in the door to the Coach Car you had come from. You can see FBI lettering on his tac vest

There wasn't much conscious thought that went through Dozer's brain as lead flew through the air. Just reflex, hours of practice, and raw experience.

Target, foot mobile, shotgun, UNDER FIRE, MAN DOWN.

Muscles twitched, and his rifle was on his shoulder.

He barely even registered the woman taking cover. Afterwards, the thought that this was the person that might have tied up the other guy would reach his mind, but right now he had threat to take down.

The tango was taking cover. Dozer's front hand shifted further forward, shoving the M4A1 further into his shoulder, the EOTech sight lining up over the target.

He only noticed he pulled the trigger when the recoil hit him, releasing only after three rounds were downrange...
OOC:
Alright, been a while since I've looked over these rules.

-Because my M4A1 has a Tactical Sling, my Initiative Count increases by 4 the first time I ready (lower case, and it should already be ready) the weapon during combat. There is also the Red-Dot sight, which gives me a +1 gear bonus within the first 5 range increments.

-I am going to Aim, and with Marksmanship Basics, will Brace as a free action. Combined, it shall increase my Initiative Count by 2 (both actions stack) and +2 to my Standard Attack against the thug with the shotgun, and because of Marksmanship my Brace doesn't require a surface.

-Because of my Rifle forte, I get a +1 to my attack check. So all told, my attack's going to be +9.

-Despite my wanting to use Rock and Roll! this early, I think it would be better to use the Burst trick (uses only three rounds as opposed to six with a -3 penalty). I will, however, use another Action dice (once again rolling 2 dice due to Accurate) to have a better chance of landing that third shot. (I would also like to double check how many Action Dice I have left after this, because I don't know if I used one to land the grapple)

-After my Aim+Brace then Burst actions, I would then like to use my 5-foot step to diagonally step out of the doorway, preferably front and to the right (might need clearing up where precisely everyone's at), though either way get me out of the doorway. This will break my Brace, but it should keep my Aim unless my target moves.

Rolls

Burst attack - (1d20+9)

(4) + 9 = 13

Action Dice (Burst Attack) - (2d4, RA)

(42) + (3) = 9

First 5.56 Subdual round - (4d4)

(1113) = 6

Second 5.56 Subdual round - (4d4)

(1322) = 8

Third 5.56 Subdual round - (4d4)

(4423) = 13

Seuss says:
...but Whitmore, the thug failed his save and is down so you can plan your actions accordingly.
Note-this takes place during the 5 ft. step
"Siddown!" Dozer couldn't help but bark as the thug fell.

OutofthedoorOUTOFTHEDOOR! his mind screamed at him. Complying, his rifle angled down slightly as his focus shifted to the woman taking cover.

"Federal agents! Identify!"

Silver Star - Coach Car
As the newcomers came barreling down the train, Beatrice cursed inwardly. #$@&, where the hell did they come from? Now I need a plan C. Looking at the hardware they were packing, they meant business. As they raised their weapons and pulled their triggers, she winced and closed her eyes as multiple rounds flew past her.

After a moment, she realized she was still alive and opened her eyes again.

"Siddown!" one of them yelled as he dodged to side to take cover. His eyes dropped to her for a moment.

"Federal agents! Identify!"

"The name's Beatrice," she replied as she peered into the next car, her voice belying a calmness she didn't feel. Seeing it momentarily clear, she pushed through the door calling back, "We are running out of time, we have to hurry! They may have more hostages back here."

Using the same sources as before, Amtrak cars are 85 feet long (wikipedia) so a 30 foot move should take me roughly 1/3 of the way into the car. Judging by the diagram, that should be plenty far enough to duck behind a seat and take total cover / total concealment from the door on the far side. I also recognize I won't be able to see the far door doing this but I am fine with that for the time being.

Given that, I want to take the Total Defense action and move forward into the next car to the first seat to take cover / hide. If 30 feet isn't enough movement for any reason, I'll move twice to get there instead.
