Mercival
You notice one of the bandits flits an eye to his right, your left, before saying (albeit a little hesitantly). "Got no cause t' be killin' a man o' faith, your lordship. Jus' had over th' coin an' any jewels ya be carryin' and we'll be on our way. Now the rest o' you kindly step down outta them wagons so we's can get a closer look, eh?"

Eldrog
Gaines complies, slowly climbing off to the left of his wagon, as does Mellon in the rear wagon. (Though Mellon appears to be trying to conceal a weapon behind him.) Turning to you, Bastion whispers "Well, my trusty sell sword, what are the odds that these two are alone in their efforts? Dare we risk their ire? or do you feel it better we acquiesce?"

That is a hard one to tell Boss. They laid a tree across the road to stop us, sort of amateur. They may be thinking just simple merchants and easy prey however, they are outnumbered so my bet is ambush from the sides, watch the woods on your side. Personally, I say we kill them and set an example to other would be bandits.

Eldrog grabs his shield and Mace and climbs down off the wagon. He turns towards the woods to his left and watches for any sign of movement, while keeping his shield arm facing the bandits.

Mercival's features contort into a mask of anger and suddenly his voice booms as if it were being channeled from elsewhere, ON YOUR KNEES BEFORE THE VOICE OF RAO!
OOC:
Mercival casts Penitent's Shame on the bandit that demanded his coin and jewels. Wisdom save, DC 13.

The bandit speaker snarls as Mercival calls for him to bow, and says "P'raps his holiness ain't heard me right." with a flick of his right hand, the second bandit looses his bolt.

The bolt whizzes right past Mercival's ear, nearly removing his earlobe before burying itself into the wagon.

"Now then. Liek I's told ya already. lest ya wanna lose yer lives as well, I said move away and let us at the wagon's and toss yer coins into a neat little pile over there." he adds, pointing to the fallen tree by the road.
OOC:
1 HP piercing damage from the bolt. (bandit was not aiming to kill, just to 'warn')

Mercival claps his hand to his ear, wincing. His angry expression turns instantly to one of deep concern. Right! I'll go and collect your gold and jewels then!
Mercival returns to Bastion's wagon, climbs in, and puts his sword-belt back on. Welp, that's my whole bag of tricks, I'm afraid. You're up son of Akar. Go get em! I'll support you from here, don't worry!

OOC:
Am I able to get to the two in the woods?
Jul 10, 2019 11:49 pm
Eldrog
You scan the surroundings quickly, judging the distance to the hidden bandits. From your perspective, all 6 of the men are in range of your crossbow.
OOC:
Currently, only Eldrog is aware of any bandits other than #1 and #2. #1 is the speaker. When posting actions, please specify the bandit by number. If moving, please utilize the letter-number combination for the square you move to. Going diagonal is 1.5 movement for squares, so instead of 6 squares, you can move 3 diagonal squares (assuming 30' movement).

Also, this map is prior to Mercival returning to the cart.

Mercival is using the side of the wagon as cover.
OOC:
Would a slight of hand check allow me to stash my gold somewhere on the wagon where it's unlikely to be found in a search? Mercival will keep 10 silver in his coinpouch if so to give to the bandits. Are the ones in the woods in cover such that ranged attacks against them would suffer a penalty?

Mercival
Moving quickly, shielded by the distance, Gaines and the wagon wheel, you are able to stash most of your coin in a spot under the bags and crates. You hope that it is good enough to avoid being found, but you are fairly sure that, based on the laughter of the bandits after your nicking, that you did so unseen.
OOC:
Technically Mercival does not yet see them, but from their vantage the ones in the woods have 1/2 cover (+2 to AC and DEX saves)

OOC:
I will be posting Mellon's action tomorrow, then Eldrog can go, followed by Mercival.

Current initiative

Mellon 19
Eldrog 18
Mercival 15
Gaines 11
Bastion 5
Bandits 3

The red-haired Mellon steps from his position at the rear wagon, and slowly moves to the back of Bastion's wagon. He surveys what is before them, then the treeline to the left and right. As Mercival moves back to the wagon, he yells out a challenge to the speaker, moving up further to the back of Gaines' wagon. He has a short sword in his hand, though held behind his back as he walks past.

"Come! Look and see! I'll even show ya where the good stuff is!" he taunts. Not amused, the bandit looses another bolt. The bolt strikes the wagon wheel, and Mellon barely flinches. He reaches to grab it, and snaps the shaft, tossing it to the ground.

"Let's get this done, then." he says with a grin, bringing his sword to bear. The bandits look at one another for a second, and the speaker draws his blade and begins moving toward Gaines.

OOC:
My apologies, Ferdy, Elveron has not responded to my PM. I know he was going somewhere LAST weekend, but he should be back. If no response by tomorrow, I will take over Eldrog for the course of the battle.

No big deal. I know how it is.

OOC:
Yeah, but we really just got started... :/

Seeing the bandit in view moving toward Gaies, Eldrog curses under his breath and stands. Taking aim, he lets loose a crossbow bolt toward the sword-wielder. The bandit ducks, the bolt sailing over his head.

Jumping from the wagon, the dwarf moves to take cover behind the large rock to his right. Others in the woods, both sides. Six in all, as far as I can tell, he calls to the rest of the company.
OOC:
Mercival is up!

Mercival shakes his head at Eldrog's inept attack. Apparently it would take divine inspiration for you to hit anything with that contraption of yours, so you shall have it!
OOC:
Mercival inspires Eldrog with a d6 inspiration die as a bonus action.
Mercival looks to Bandit #1 and his voice booms as he castigates his sinful soul!
The gates of the abyss swing wide for your iniquitous soul, heathen!
OOC:
Castigate Sinner as an action, bandit 1 must make a DC13 wis save or take 1d4 psychic damage and suffer disadvantage on their attack next round.
Mercival stays in the cart, hoping the wooden sides will block any errant crossbow bolts.
