"Tolvihar" Elfog mouths in stunned silence as he instantly recognizes one of Clan Oakshoulder's deadliest weapons.

Tolvihar, The Slayer of Vorosakarny and Feller of Orias! If legend is to be believed the great axe was used by the clan's first great hero, Tuz Oakshoulder, in an epic battle with Vorosakarny the Red, a battle which cost both combatants their lives. Since that time, upon the owner's death, it has fallen to the clan leader to decide who should be the next in line to wield Tolvihar. For a young dwarven warrior of the clan it is one of the greatest honors that can be bestowed. It's also one of the deadliest, as those who wield Tolvihar inevitably die in battle at a young age defending the Oakshoulder clan.

Throwing his short sword swiftly to the ground, Elfog holds the axe high above his head. "For this, Fish...." he quickly stops and corrects himself, "For this, Ploopploopeen, I'm forever in ye debt!" Giving the axe a few quick swings he asks, "My people's axe! Where? How?"
OOC:
I'm thinking if the axe has some sort of benefit there should be some sort of negative effect as well. Not cursed, necessarily, but some sort of hurt for using the special benefit. Kind of explaining why battles with big baddies always end in the wielder's death.

Ploopploopeen looks surprised at the thanks (or as surprised as a Kuo Toa can look), "It came in with a drow patrol that arrived and caused trouble just a couple of days before you arrived," he explains, "A minotaur slave was wielding it, I hear. And you owe me no debt if you can help restore unity to my people."

Mai'ngor nods approvingly. "It is a fine weapon, Elfog. A thing of beauty. From what I have seen of you in battle, it is no surprise your clan chose to entrust you with it."

Hunter quietly tries to remember any stories of such a relic, but as she is somewhat distracted by her attempts to attune the staff and that there are so many darn legends from the dwarves, she chooses not to sully this reunion with her ignorance.

"Aye! It's quite the weapon." Elfog responds to Mai'ngor, almost beaming with pride.

He's tempted to tell the tale of how he his killing of seven orcs singlehandedly earned him the right to wield the blade, but decides that's a story for another time.

The archpriest leads you on to the city, leaving you armed and unbound. As they get close to the city he and his guards begin to stand up straighter, almost strutting. As you round a bend in the cavern you see the Darklake spread out in front of you, as far as you're able to see.

Situated between the lake and the cavern wall is Sloobludop. From here it looks like a massive tangle of reeds stretching up in the darkness, lit by glowing spots of phosphorescence. As you get closer you see that the "reeds" are actually a series of rickety towers, lashed together with rope and plank bridges set in haphazard patterns. It seems that the kuo-toa build in acord with their aquatic sensibilities, with no regard for the laws of gravity.

As you approach you see that the city is enclosed by "walls" of heavy netting, with heavy hooks woven into them to catch on anyone who tries to sneak through. In the middle of each wall is a gate through which travelers can safely pass. Four kuo-toa slightly incline their heads to the archpriest as he leads you through. He leads you down the winding ways of the town to his residence.

"We'll wait here until the time is right to put our plan into action," he explains to you as you walk in.

You see a kuo-toa waiting in the room as you enter. As you step foot in he stands up and glares at you before turning to Ploopploopeen, speaking in Undercommon (which Shuushar quietly translates for you) "Father! Who are these outsiders? These are sacred matters and should be left for us to resolve," he speaks quickly, flailing his arms wildly and pacing back and forth.

Ploopploopeen waves the boys' concerns away, "Glooglugogg, you must flow with the currents of the Goddess' visions. She has led these outsiders here for a reason, we need their help to pu an end to your sister's madness."

Glooglugogg growls, a strange gurgling sound, and shakes his head fiercely. He glares at you one last time before stomping out of the home.

Ploopploopeen doesn't say anything to you about the exchange, merely saying something about the folly of youth under his breath before turning back to you, "Now, it shouldn't take more than an hour for preparations to be made. We should make our final plans before we proceed.

"More of your offspring vex you, archpriest. Will there be more trouble from him?"
Apr 1, 2016 3:35 pm
"No, Glooglugogg is a loyal and devout follower of the Sea Mother, he just doesn't understand the nuances of rulership yet."
Apr 1, 2016 4:10 pm
Hunter tries to recall any lore about the Sea Mother that might provide insight into how kuo-toa think and act. It's gotten harder to remember these stories; no wonder wizards have tons of books around them.

To cover up her thoughts, Hunter blindly asks, "Where will your daughter hold us for her ritual?"

"why are we even here? Are we any closer to freedom??" I lament loudly to no one on particular.
Apr 4, 2016 1:51 pm
Not much is known about the Sea Mother, other than its the strange deity that the kuo-toa worship.

"Not far from here is a shrine to the Deep Father. That is where I will make my offering to my daughter. And you should await my signal to start. If I can get close enough, this should be rather quick, or so I hope."
Apr 4, 2016 3:50 pm
Hunter picks herself up and adjusts her robes. "Fine," she says, resignedly. "Let's get this over with."
Apr 4, 2016 4:48 pm
With a nod and a shake of his mane, Mai'ngor takes up position beside Hunter and her myconid protege.
Apr 4, 2016 4:54 pm
Soliin waits till the group assembles, then tries to find a position within the group in which he can be most obscure.
OOC:
I have the ability to hide behind creatures a size larger than me, so can I try to get the group to crowd around in a way I can hide behind Mai'ngor and have others around me, to try to sneak better?
Apr 4, 2016 4:54 pm
About an hour later, a dozen or more kuo-toa arrive at Ploopploopeen's residence where he speaks to them briefly, "My assistant and the prisoners will accompany me to see the archpriest of the Deep Father."

You are led a short distance away, toward the dock, where you are brought to the altar of the Deep Father, on which stands the strangest idol you've ever seen. The idol to Leemooggoogoon the Deep Father consists of a large hide cut roughly in the shape of a manta ray and stretched out on cords between two support poles. A dead, splayed-out manta ray is pinned to the center of the hide. Two dead octopuses are draped across the top, their tentacles pinned and artfully arrayed, their heads tied together and painted with red and blue pigments. The idol reeks of decay, and the broad stone altar below the idol is stained dark with blood.

Waiting for you at the altar is Bloppblippodd, Ploopploopeen's daughter and Archpriest of the Deep Father. The archpriest of the Sea Mother steps forward across the span of the altar toward the kuo-toa waiting for him there. "The time has come," he says, "for us to acknowledge your divine vision and welcome it. I have brought these as offerings." He gestures toward all of you, standing within a circle of guards behind him. "Will you not accept them?"

"You are wise, father," the younger archpriest replies. "I accept your offering in the name of the Deep Father. May their blood nourish and strengthen him!" A burbling cheer goes up from the surrounding kuo-toa, their fists raised in the air. At the altar is another person, apparently brought for sacrifice. An armed Duergar male who is looking at you pleadingly.
OOC:
Ok, so I need to know what everyone wants to do. Will there be an order? Where in the group do you want to be? Will anyone be attempting to sneak around (Soliin)?
Apr 4, 2016 5:15 pm
OOC:
Hunter will try to Message the duergar in her broken Dwarvish about the group's intention to attack and escape, and to wait for Plooploopeen's signal: "We out break, run. Fight priest there when priest here says."

To Plooploopeen, Hunter will try to Message him and ask that the signal be given before the dwarf is killed: "One more ally to fight the Deep Father's followers will be extremely useful. And by the way, what is the signal?"

Hunter herself will stand behind one of Plooploopeen's guards until she is escorted or forced to move, holding Stool's hand, and waits for the signal.
Apr 4, 2016 5:21 pm
Ma'ingor stands impassively in front of the group and awaits either Ploopploopeen's signal or his betrayal. When either one comes he will spring into action.
OOC:

How far away is Bloppblippodd? Mai'ngor will want to have just enough distance for a Trampling Charge.
Apr 4, 2016 5:23 pm
Soliin sneaks between the buildings and outcroppings to try to find a position from which he can quickly sneak forward for a strike or can line up a clean crossbow shot on the head priest.

Adrenaline pumping, Elfog is just waiting for the signal, hell, any signal at this point. He's planning on going straight for the Archpriest of the Deep Father and hacking her to bits.
Apr 5, 2016 3:05 pm
The duergar looks a bit confused for a moment, but then nods his acceptance of the plan. Mai'ngor and Elfog are positioned at the front of the group, a mere 25 feet from Bloppblippodd.

Soliin and Xeliss watch from nearby rooftops, staying hidden until they find a good opportunity to strike.

The kuo-toa begin a chant and begin dancing around the altar. They move so quickly that you can't tell who's on the side of Ploopploopeen and who's not. After a couple minutes of dancing and chanting some guards step forth with spears and herd you toward the altar. As you get closer you can see a grate in the ground and the noise of the splashing Darklake coming from within. You can surmise that the spilled blood drains directly into the lake. The stone around the grate is stained a deep red.

As Bloppblippodd directs the guards to herd you over to the grate Ploopploopeen leaps forward and bashes her in the face with his scepter. Suddenly there is chaos as all of the kuo-toa on Ploopploopeen's side begin cutting the others down. The followers of the Deep Father are helpless against the sudden assault and take a moment to recover.

OOC:
You have the surprise round!

The positions are correct, except P (Ploopploopeen) is standing adjacent to B (Bloppblippodd)

Mai'ngor will be able to fit in the space to the left of P, because I know that's what you're going to want to do.
