"I have a bad feeling about this," mutters the half-elf. She seems resigned to having to defend herself yet again from whatever surprises the Underdark has to offer. Hunter scans the darkness with her eyes, and strains her hearing for sound.
OOC:
I wanted to confirm that it's been ten days; do we still have Exhaustion?

Elfog peers after the hook horrors and sees them rushing down a long tunnel, then loses sight of them as the tunnel curves to the left.

Mai'ngor looks to see what they were running from and sees a group of gnolls stealthily making their way down the tunnel in this direction, obviously following the hook horrors.
Apr 20, 2016 4:26 pm
"Gnolls." Mai’ngor hisses, and settles into a combat stance.
OOC:
How many gnolls exactly? You wanna fight, run, or hide?
Apr 20, 2016 4:29 pm
OOC:
Looks like four that you can see
Apr 20, 2016 4:32 pm
Hunter crouches down, trying to lower her profile. "If they're hunting those hook horrors, we can let them pass and maybe avoid them." She looks for a hiding place to conceal herself.

Never overly impressed with the gnolls he's run into before Elfog moves up to support Mai'ngor. "Them hooks must not be all that tough if they're running from a couple a gnolls" he whispers as he reaches for Tolvihar.
Apr 20, 2016 10:30 pm
As Elfog draws his axe the gnolls step into the corridor ahead. Hunter takes a nervous step back to attempt to make herself less noticeable but stumbles a bit on a stone that's jutting out of the floor and gasps as she regains her balance. The gnolls look over and howl with glee at some prey to kill.

They charge toward you with hate in their eyes and shout a war cry. You can only understand one word, "Yeenoghu!", which you all recognize as the name of the demon lord of the gnolls.

The tunnel you're in right now is 10 feet wide, allowing 2 people to stand against the assault on the front line. This is currently Elfog and Mai'ngor. Behind them is Sarith and Hunter, then Xeliss and Stool, then Jimjar and Soliin in the back.
OOC:
The gnolls won initiative, post incoming
Apr 20, 2016 10:34 pm
G3 and G4 trail behind the others in their charge and launch a couple of arrows at Mai'ngor and Elfog before their companions engage. Both shots are hurried and end up sailing off into the darkness, miraculously not hitting anyone behind the two warriors.

G1 steps up to engage Elfog and stabs out with his spear. Elfog bats the weapon aside with contemptuous ease and remains unharmed.

G2 steps forward and thrusts at Mai'ngor with his spear. The tikbalang manages to deflect the blow, but takes a minor scratch on the side of his chest (4 damage)
OOC:
Situation: G1 is engaged with Elfog, G2 is engaged with Mai'ngor. G3 and G4 are standing back a bit, about 10 feet and waiting for a chance to take another shot.

I duck down and peer past the legs of my traveling companions. In a whisper, I conjure weeds and vines right between the attacking gnolls, hoping to ensnare all of them in the greenery.
OOC:
Casting Entangle- Grasping weeds and vines sprout from the ground in a 20 foot square starting from a point within range. For the duration, these plants turn the ground in the area into difficult terrain. A creature in the area when you cast the spell must succeed on a Strength saving throw of be restrained by the entangling plants until the spell ends. A creature restrained by the plants can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC. On a success it frees itself. When the spell ends, the Conjured plants wilt away.

Mai'ngor snarls as he leaps into the air and comes down with a hoof strike on the gnoll in front of him. This is the opening step of his war dance.
OOC:
Bonus action to enter War Dance.
Action for Hooves attack vs. G2.

EDIT: Nice going. :-P

As the twisting vines appear, Hunter backs away as far as possible from the writhing mass and the gnoll archers. She looks with disdain at the stone that broke the party's stealth, and with a scornful flick of her finger sends the rock flying through the air at Gnoll #3.
OOC:
Casting Catapult at 2nd level. Maximum weight of object increases to 10 pounds, and damage increases to 4d8.
Range: 150 feet
Components: S
Duration: Instantaneous
Choose one object weighing 1 to 5 pounds within range that isn't being worn or carried. The object flies in a straight line up to 90 feet in a direction you choose before falling to the ground, stopping early if it impacts against a solid surface. If the object would strike a creature, that creature must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the object strikes the target and stops moving. In either case, both the object and the creature or solid surface take 3d8 bludgeoning damage.

Rolls

Wild Magic Surge - (1d20)

Elfog lands a heavy blow on the gnoll, who just barely manages to move far enough out of the way for the blow to strike his shoulder (13 damage). The gnolls arm falls limp and it screams in pain and rage and continues holding the spear with its good hand.

Hunter's flung rock slams right into G3's skull (24 damage). You hear a loud crack and the gnoll falls to the ground.

Vines sprout from the ground at Xeliss' command, grabbing at the feet of the gnolls. G1 manages to avoid entanglement, but G2 and G4 aren't so lucky and begin struggling against the sudden plant growth.

Mai'ngor lashes out with his hooves, but misses G2 terribly.

Sarith pokes his hand over Elfog's head and fires a crossbow bolt right into G1's chest (5 damage)
OOC:
G1 has taken 18 damage
G2 is unharmed and restrained by entangle
G3 is dead
G4 is unharmed and restrained by entangle

Soliin still has a turn to do something
Apr 21, 2016 3:49 pm
Soliin looks around to see any way to get to the enemies, but the tunnel is too tight. Suddenly, he tries to look past his friends and just past the gnolls, pulling out some fleece from his components bag. A minor illusion of those horrors might help. A small noise, very faint, similar to the sound of the hook horrors, comes from just behind the gnolls, only audible to the last two rows.
OOC:
Casting minor illusion, of a noise like what hook horrors sound like (I'm guessing we heard what they sound like as they passed?). If I don't know what they sound like, more like rock scraping. The idea is to give the impression of returning horrors behind them. It should only be a very faint noise just behind the gnolls.
Apr 21, 2016 3:58 pm
G4 turns to look behind him, but sees no sign of anything dangerous and turns back to continue his assault on the party.
OOC:
Now for the gnolls turn
G4 is slightly distracted by the noise behind him and makes a shot through an opening between his companions. His distraction is too great and his aim is low, striking the stone between his friends' feet.
OOC:
I gave him disadvantage on the attack due to his distraction
G1, still in a massive amount of pain, can't seem to land a hit on the skilled dwarven warrior.

G2 has now lost the element of surprise and he can't manage to get anywhere near hitting Mai'ngor.
OOC:
G1 has taken 18 damage
G2 is unharmed and restrained by entangle
G3 is dead
G4 is unharmed and restrained by entangle

Player turn!
Apr 21, 2016 5:38 pm
Hunter remains where she is. While the others engage the gnolls in melee, she flicks her wrist again to send another rock hurtling at the remaining archer.
OOC:
Casting Catapult again at level 2, against Gnoll #4. Hoping the restrained condition makes him fail his Dex save!

Rolls

Wild Magic Surge - (1d20)

(16) = 16

Apr 21, 2016 5:41 pm
Hunter launches another rock, this time at G4. The gnoll was expecting the ranged attack, but the vines gripping him hold him back just a moment too long and he is also taken down (24 damage).

From further down the passage you can hear the whooping sounds of yelling gnolls. It appears that these gnolls were not alone in their hunt.
OOC:
Wow! Good spells!

And the vines ARE what made him fail lol

G1 has taken 18 damage
G2 is unharmed and restrained by entangle
G3 is dead
G4 is dead
