Wu Meng conceded that Rong Hua's suggestion had merit. There were two things to accomplish within the same time frame. "Very well, I shall go after Zhao Xun, and you can go rescue the girl. I have an idea that will help us both." Turning to Xin, "Can we trouble you to send someone with a note to this location? We have friends we can summon for aid. They can then follow up with myself and Rong Hua separately."

Rong Hua smiled.
Ok! Be careful.
She smiled at the male monk.
Now, just tell me everything I need to know for this mission and I’ll be ready.
The female smiled and said to ShenXin.

Trusting that Rong Hua will deal with Xin's problem and get word to their companions, Wu Meng bowed, and made haste towards the lower east quarter.

Feng rolls her eyes, showing her annoyance at such unnecessary measures. She maintains a casual stride while speaking quietly to her companions. "Do either of you fine gentlemen think our new additions are in a persuasive mood?"

OOC:
Please pardon my prolonged (and more importantly, unnannounced) absence! Alright, let's get back to it.
Rong Hua
Shen Xin has already told you everything you need to know. You have descriptions of both Atekhramun and Mei, and where they're most likely to be found if they're still in the city. With a messenger sent to Xian Feng's textile shop as requested, you make your way to the East Water Gate.

People and goods camp here, awaiting first light to ferry across the Perfumed Lake. The lake crossing is the very first step on the long and arduous journey southeastward regularly taken for trade both legitimate and illicit with Hiptos and Northern Aksum. There's talk of establishing a similar trade route westward to Cysegr and Pradesh, but the orc-infested Barrier Mountains would make such a journey very dangerous indeed!

You wind your way among the encampments. It smells faintly of camel dung here, but also of tea and fragrant spices. You hear half a dozen languages being spoken. A porter dances in time to an unfamiliar stringed instrument. You see no one matching your quarry's description.

What do you do?

Wu Meng
As you make your way to the lower east quarter to hunt down the notorious assassin, Zhao Xun, you feel a little bit like a fish out of water. These shadowy corners full of watchful eyes and poisoned blades are Rong Hua's specialty, not yours. Still, you try to make the best of it.

You locate the tea house where the steward, Geon, was seen with Zhao Xun. The food smells wafting from the place are surprisingly welcoming given the forbidding surroundings. The door slides open and a couple of patrons stumble into the street amid raucous laughter. Neither of them are Zhao Xun. You realize you are one of very few people living who have seen the Black Lotus' face.

The pair of drunken patrons wend their way down the street. There's no one else about.

What do you do?

Iko, Feng, and Wei
What, if anything, do you do about Tamchim's men as you make your way to Feng's shop?

"We can try and talk, if you think it'll do any good. If it doesn't then we can handle things...a different way."
Jul 16, 2019 2:23 pm
Rong Hua would be more useful here. Wu Meng reflected as he moved purposefully through the narrow lanes of the lower east quarter. Confident in his stride, and focussed in movement, if trouble came for him, he was ready for it. Reaching the teahouse, and sure that the departing patrons were not Zhao Xun, Meng stepped inside quietly and tried not to call attention to himself. He hoped to scan the room without drawing the attention of the proprietor.

"It is possible, though we will not know if we do nothing." Iko says in response to Feng's question. "Shall we have a chat?"
Jul 16, 2019 2:44 pm
OOC:
Ask your three questions, Wu Meng.
Quote:
"Shall we have a chat?"
Iko, is that directed at your companions, or Tamchim's people?

Jul 16, 2019 3:28 pm
OOC:
That was directed at my companions.

"Lets." Xian abruptly comes to a halt, looking straight at their stalkers. "You got something to tell us?" She crosses her arms, appearing slightly perturbed.

"We're only here to make sure you're not blabbing about what the Guildmaster told you," says one of the elves. "Or skipping town," adds the other.

You're a few of blocks away from the shop. You can still shake them off, fight them, just let them be, or whatever you decide.

What do you do?

Jabes.plays.RPG says:
OOC:
Ask your three questions, Wu Meng.

OOC:
Can Wu Meng see or hear evidence that Zhao Xun and Geon were here earlier? (gossip from other tables, something left behind)

If so, can he tell if and when they left, and where they went?

Can he tell if, were he to ask around about either of them, how he could do so without raising suspicion? (finding the right person to ask, etc)
Jul 18, 2019 4:55 am
"Ah yes, let us cause trouble for a man whom we have agreed to help." Feng responds dryly, unamused by the situation. She turns back around, taking a few steps toward the shop. "Do as you please, but don't expect any hospitality from me."

Xian Feng's Shop (Wei, Feng, Iko)
The elves shrug, and lounge on the corner when you reach Feng's shop. You find a message that's been slipped under the door. It's from Wu Meng.

Wu Meng, tell us what the message says exactly.

The Tea House (Meng)
Ducking through the door, you find the interior is as seedy as one might expect of this neighborhood. You stick to the shadows and try not to draw attention as you survey the room. As you wonder if you should start asking around you feel a strong hand on your shoulder and a pinprick in the small of your back that tells you of the knife aimed at your vitals. "Where's your little bitch friend?" someone rasps in your ear.

What do you do?

The East Water Gate (Rong Hua)
There's no sign of Atekhramun or Mei, although you do see a group of Hiptites gathered around a fire, spit-roasting dog meat. One of them flicks his gaze curiously over you. Just a casual glance? Or something more? What do you do?

"Would you believe me if I said she was behind you?" Wu Meng replied calmly. He surmised that it had to be Zhao Xun, who must have spotted him before he himself could do so. "I did not come here to fight. Put aside your blade, let us converse like honourable men." He raised his palms to show that he was unarmed. "We can go somewhere quieter if you like."

Rong Hua smiles as she then sashays her way to the male.
Hi there... the female smiled and crooned, gently brushing her hair ever so slightly.
I’m lost, and I wonder if you could help me...?

Wu Meng

"'Honorable!' I like that. Come, sit, have some tea." Zhao Xun leads you to a table you noticed when you came in - no occupant, but the teapot is steaming. The assassin must have moved away just moments ago to ambush you.

What do you do?
OOC:
The exact wording of the message to your friends is also entirely up to you:
Quote:
Wu Meng, tell us what the message says exactly.

Rong Hua
The trio of Hiptites all look up from their meal. These men appear to be common laborers, veterans of the desert crossing, judging by their worn clothing and leathery skin. They flash toothy smiles and motion for you to join them. "Taeal wajili! Taeal 'akl!" It seems they only speak Hiptite.

THe message Wu Meng sent to Xian Feng's shop read:
Rong Hua has gone to East Water Gate to rescue a kidnapped girl bound for caravan to Hiptos. I have gone to a tea house at the lower east quarter to get the item we did not manage to retrieve at the Guong household. Come assist if you can. Wu Meng.

Wu Meng nodded, and sat down with Zhao Xun. With proper courtesy, he poured the tea for both of them, and raised his cup with both hands. "I thank you for your help earlier, and am in your debt. In such a situation, I would've been honour-bound not to continue to pursue you, were it not that I am still beholden to retrieve the item which I assume is now in your possession. I suppose my next two questions are connected: Why did you help us? And do you have it?"
Jul 21, 2019 2:47 pm
Wei reads the note and a smile forms on his face. "My friends, it seems we have two different destinations. I'm going to go to the East Water Gate. I'll help Rong Hua."
