Part 2: Phandalin

Kama opens the door and the boy begins sobbing, "Thank you mister, thank you..." and he follows you as you open the next cage and then launches himself into his mother's arms. It takes a few minutes for the situation to calm down and the mother to turn to you all, "I'm Mirna Dendrar and these are my children, Nars and Nilsa. I don't know how to ever repay you for thanking us. They killed my husband for defying them and then came to take us in the night. I thought we would be killed for sure."

"Let's get them out," suggests Kama to the rest of the group. "Escort them back through the storage room and the cavern, to the tunnel, just in case there are any Redbrands along the way."

To Mirna, Kama describes their location. "Once you exit the tunnel, you'll be in some woods about 200 feet east of the Alderleaf farm. Halfing family, you might know them. Seek shelter there, or at the Townmaster's."

You are easily able to get the Dendrar family out of the hideout. As she gets ready to head back Mirna turns and gives on more piece of information, "I know it's not much, but my family used to be the owners of an alchemy shop in Thundertree before it was overrun by undead. Underneath the storage shelves you will find a case that contains an emerald necklace. I've never been brave enough to retrieve it, but if you go to the southeastern part of town and find it you may keep it."
OOC:
Everyone gets 50 more xp for rescuing the Dendrar family

Kama consults the map while standing in the cavern. "Shall we clear the cellar and barracks next? It's the only other area on that side of the ruins."
Jan 27, 2016 9:36 pm
Wish cleans his sword, meditatively reflecting on the fact that he is on the run for a murder charge...but he consoles himself that he was set up to take the fall by a gang of assassins and murderers much like these Redbrands.

Then, when Kama opens the cell doors, he's all smiles, trying to comfort the prisoners. He can't stand when people are oppressed. "Are you hurt? Can you walk?"
OOC:
Geez, that was out of order! I guess I loaded the most recent messages, and it took me to the first one I hadn't read, and I didn't realize that there was a full half page of posts on the next page! So: I've revised Wish's comments to make sense in the actual context.
Wish nods in agreement with Kama's suggestion, and adds: "After, I'd also like to go back and see if the Redbrands kept anything of value in those coffin things..."

"Makes as much sense as anything else. Hopefully the aren't having a gang meeting in there."

The party makes their way through over the first bridge and through a short tunnel to what they know is a secret door.

Wish waves the others to silence (completely unnecessarily) and then opens the secret door into the cellar a crack to peer in. If there's no immediate reaction from hostiles, he'll push the door open fully and walk in with his torch held high.
OOC:
Note: I'm adding a couple of rolls, just in case they're desired. It's a cellar; I don't think people will be hanging out there, but we've survived so far by being cautious, so...

Rolls

Stealth (to open door sneakily) - (1d20+3)

(3) + 3 = 6

Perception (to see through the barely-opened door) - (1d20+3)

(1) + 3 = 4

The door opens up noisily and Wish can see a small pool to his left. Barrels line the walls on either side of the pool and on the other side of the room you can see stairs leading up to a landing with a door that leads to the manor itself. On the other side of the pool you can see a door that leads to what you know is the barracks area.

Kama follows Wish into the room. He scans the area, mindful of possible ambush from behind barrels or in the water.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20)

(15) = 15

Kama doesn't detect anything out of the ordinary in this room.
Feb 1, 2016 6:29 pm
Kama nods to some unseen entity, then points Wish to the barracks door.
Feb 1, 2016 8:01 pm
Wish notes that this is a storeroom and, like the crypt, probably worthwhile to search...later. Right now, there's barracks to clear. He crosses over to the barracks door. Does it open outwards, or inwards?
Feb 1, 2016 8:46 pm
The door opens into the room, away from you.
Feb 1, 2016 8:49 pm
Kama adjusts the fit of the red cloak, just in case the barracks is occupied.
Feb 2, 2016 12:06 am
Hollow hangs back, ready to take cover and prepares to cast Eldritch Blast at the first enemy she sees.
Feb 4, 2016 5:50 am
Wish exchanges a nod with Hollow, Xora, and Kama, and then throws open the door.
Feb 4, 2016 6:11 am
Kama rests his maul on his shoulder, trying to be as non-threatening as possible.
Feb 4, 2016 1:58 pm
The door swings open easily to reveal the barracks. It appears to be a storeroom pressed into service as living quarters. Two double bunks stand against the wall near the door, while barrels and crates fill the southern half of the chamber. You see three Redbrands standing in the room: Two of them sit on the beds while the other is leaning against a barrel. They appear to have been deep in coversation and when they see you they begin scrambling for their weapons.

OOC:
You have the surprise round if you want to initiate combat
Feb 4, 2016 5:22 pm
Kama strides forward past Wish, not only to put the genasi behind him (and take advantage of later sneak attacks), but also to address the three men in the room. "What are you doing? Stand down!" he barks. "This how you treat new recruits?"

Rolls

Deception - (1d20+1)

(8) + 1 = 9
