OOC:
Perect! Thanks. Yah, sorry, downgrade the difficulty. Copilot doesn't make you pilot worse! Sorry for the confusion.
The Kirtan Strider lumbers into a large canyon. Mal manages to spin it from time to time so that the long wing on the right side doesn't get yanked off by a particularly nasty bit of terrain. People who aren't able to see the terrain wobbling around are fine, thanks to the artificial gravity on the ship -- but those of you with a view out the cockpit feel vaguely unsettled.
The TIEs do what they can to keep pace.
They are able to thread through the canyons at their ridiculous speed -- annoying the heck out of Mal and Kaveri in the process -- but Mal is able to use the terrain to his advantage and prevent them from getting closer. A few near misses shake their pilots. These cause them to lose some of the ground on Mal and the range to them extends from long range to extreme range.
Because of the range, and your speed -- Mal knows that they cannot catch you before you are able to complete the calculation for the microjump. However, jumping within the gravity well of the planet is not without its risks. Ordinarily you'd need to hit orbit for a good several minutes (~5 rounds) to get far enough away for a safe jump.
OOC:
I think the way I'm gunna rule this one is that if you can win another contested roll with these guys you can 'lose' them and then perhaps just skim the surface for a bit before hitting orbit and having enough time to get to a safe distance. Otherwise if you want to jump from within a gravity well, I'll need to make the roll pretty hard. Probably a piloting roll with a base difficulty of 4P (based on Silhouette) along with some sliding scale about distance and safety -- perhaps 5 upgrades (so 4R1P) since you're 0/5 rounds distant from the planet. Short version, the chance of catastrophic failure is significant..
End of Round 1.
Kaveri continues to work the controls -- in part to keep her mind off of Mal's flying.
OOC:
- Heyop has a boost on his next attack.
- Mal can downgrade the difficulty of his next piloting check.
- Kaveri takes a setback die on her next roll.
