Kaveri begins to work the controls in anticipation of Mal's needs. She is successful in tuning the Kirtan Strider to give Mal a little more juice in the maneuvering thrusters. Behind Kaveri, the navicomputer beeps and whistles, as Csillag peppers the keyboard with command. It suggests it'll be able to make the jump to hyperspace in 2 minutes.

On the scopes, Kaveri sees the TIEs vector away from a Lambda Class shuttle that looks to be headed to your landing spot. "The TIEs are headed for us... time for any evasive action you intend!"
OOC:
Mal - are you doing evasive flying with the terrain or outside of terrain? if terrain, there are mountains and canyons... mountains will be easier to dodge and canyons will be considerably more difficult. Which do you prefer?

Current range to the TIEs is "long".

Mal will DOWNGRADE his next piloting check by 1.

Dagger, Urik and Heyop - any other actions? Otherwise I'll assume Mal sets the round boundary.

there's no way this thing will outrun those TIEs... hold on, we're going into the canyons

assuming the difficulty is hard.. downgrading my roll.. adding my enhance ability.. going to add a boost from my copilot

Dagger straps himself into a seat and shouts up to Mal, Whoever you are, if you kill us, I'm going to kill you!

OOC:
I guess I'm aiming if there's a shot or to collapse terrain to make it harder to gain on us or track let me know.

OOC:
Mal -- gunna make you re-roll. You should be YGG not GGG for your flying skill due to your Piloting - Planetary / Space skills. Secondly due to your speed and silhouette your base difficulty at Speed 2 (full speed) is RR. With the DOWNGRADE and the advantage from Kaveri you should be at RPBlue - because you're hitting canyons I'm calling it RPBlueBlackBlack. And lastly since you're trying to enhance, you add a Force Die. RPBlueBlackBlackW.

Heyop - current distance is too far away, so you're good, but will keep in mind.

oh, when you said downgrade, I thought you meant my roll.. my rank in skilled jockey gets rid of one of those setbacks

and using enhance, I'm making those two white force points advantages and boosting our gunner.
Mal does a series of complicated twists and turns and near suicidal flying moves, but it's obvious this guy really knows how to fly.

OOC:
Perect! Thanks. Yah, sorry, downgrade the difficulty. Copilot doesn't make you pilot worse! Sorry for the confusion.
The Kirtan Strider lumbers into a large canyon. Mal manages to spin it from time to time so that the long wing on the right side doesn't get yanked off by a particularly nasty bit of terrain. People who aren't able to see the terrain wobbling around are fine, thanks to the artificial gravity on the ship -- but those of you with a view out the cockpit feel vaguely unsettled.

The TIEs do what they can to keep pace.

They are able to thread through the canyons at their ridiculous speed -- annoying the heck out of Mal and Kaveri in the process -- but Mal is able to use the terrain to his advantage and prevent them from getting closer. A few near misses shake their pilots. These cause them to lose some of the ground on Mal and the range to them extends from long range to extreme range.

Because of the range, and your speed -- Mal knows that they cannot catch you before you are able to complete the calculation for the microjump. However, jumping within the gravity well of the planet is not without its risks. Ordinarily you'd need to hit orbit for a good several minutes (~5 rounds) to get far enough away for a safe jump.
OOC:
I think the way I'm gunna rule this one is that if you can win another contested roll with these guys you can 'lose' them and then perhaps just skim the surface for a bit before hitting orbit and having enough time to get to a safe distance. Otherwise if you want to jump from within a gravity well, I'll need to make the roll pretty hard. Probably a piloting roll with a base difficulty of 4P (based on Silhouette) along with some sliding scale about distance and safety -- perhaps 5 upgrades (so 4R1P) since you're 0/5 rounds distant from the planet. Short version, the chance of catastrophic failure is significant..

End of Round 1.
Kaveri continues to work the controls -- in part to keep her mind off of Mal's flying.
OOC:

- Heyop has a boost on his next attack.
- Mal can downgrade the difficulty of his next piloting check.
- Kaveri takes a setback die on her next roll.

persistent little mynocs, aren't they? Mal says calmly. Anyone in the cockpit notices that even though Mal is going some really insane and "creative" flying, he looks very focused and calm behind the wheel. Where other pilots might be whooping and shouting, Mal is very quiet and intense looking.
OOC:
going to use the force point to make this a wash.. better luck next round

I would advise against. A wash is still a failure and won't impact the outcome meaningfully and you will have to flip a destiny point and take conflict. Doesn't seem worth it.

OOC:
if it won't do any good, then ok.... hopefully we're not a fireball

Mal pilots the Kirtan Strider well, but not so well as to avoid kissing the side of the canyon. The scrape rocks the Strider back and forth, jostling everyone in their seats. Comms are filled with the occasional cry of dismay and Kaveri notes across the console to Mal, "Careful, we're not heavily armored..."

Behind you, the TIEs try to keep pace -- and fail, as navigating the canyons have become too much for them. One of them clips the canyon and bumps into its colleague before slamming into the side of the canyon in a burst of flames. His bumped colleague is sent careening off course and struggling to regain control.

The navicomp beeps happily. Your microjump is plotted.
OOC:
You are clear of the TIEs. Officially you're all supposed to be disoriented for one round (SB on checks). But unless you plan on doing something fancy, this should be a no-op. At this point, you can safely make orbit and enter hyperspace if you so desire.

Mal points the ship upwards and makes all possible speed to space
Jun 7, 2016 12:31 pm
Heyop leans back and exhales once their pursuers were left behind and the sky faded from view. Rolling his head from side to side he'll make his way to the cockpit to see what the rest of the party is up to. Seeing someone he doesn't know driving Heyop finds his gun already in his hand instinctively.

"Hey guys... who is that flying?" Heyop asks with his blaster leveled at the pilot's head.
Jun 7, 2016 1:01 pm
Dagger has the hilt of his light saber still in hand. I don't know, but with crazy flying like that, I think I'm in love, Dagger says, grinning. He still has the hilt ready to light at a moments notice.
Jun 7, 2016 1:12 pm
"While it's great he's a good pilot and we got out of there. You don't think it's odd for him to be here in this situation? It's very convenient don't you think?" Heyop says not looking away raising an eyebrow.
OOC:
( ͡ ° ͜ʖ ͡ °) Meta: I know why you're there but Heyop's Old Man Shenanigans Sense is tingling.

OOC:
Dagger had actually asked the guy's name twice during the chase and he seemed to ignore or dodge it. I'm just as leery of the stranger, but I still gotta crack wise. I was strapped in near the cockpit somewhere during the chase.
To be fair he was locked in a closet when I found him. He also helped me take down one of the troopers inside, Dagger says, his other hand finding his blaster grip.

"The story is full of holes, we don't know if he was planted purposely as some Imperial Agent. You want to fill those holes in the story Mr. Pilot? Also how's the boy doing?" Heyop states flatly his jaw sets into place as he waits for a response mostly from the pilot.
Jun 7, 2016 1:29 pm
Hey!, I shout at Heyop. He has a name. Urik will be fine. He's tough. A few bucketheads aren't going to take him down.
OOC:
I assume Heyop is talking about Urik.
