Tony slowly sank into the chair. What had once been a moldering arm chair was now a pool of black water. Tony's body slowly eased into its warm embrace.
The black water was hot, hotter than the air, but it felt good. She moved her fingers as the water rose. They were sticky. The black water oozed between her toes, sticking to her skin and then oozing back into the pool, leaving behind an oily film on her skin. The ooze oozed its way up her back, inside the back of her shirt. It oozed up her thighs and inside the leg of her shorts. The swamp was hungry again.

Tony wanted to scream but she swallowed down her terror, afraid that screaming would break her out of what was happening. Her heart was pounding and her breath was coming faster and faster. She been here before many times, but it never got easier.

Suddenly, violently the ooze swallowed her up, and she was engulfed. She could feel the weight of the black water pressing on her, trying to ooze its way inside her body, pulling back her eyelids, forcing its way up her nose and between her lips, in her ears and between her legs.

It took every ounce of Tony's will power not to come unglued—to scream, to flail around in horror, to vomit. But she wasn't here to flee the horror. She was here to embrace it and by it to see. Tony relaxed her muscles, let her legs go limp in the goo, opened her eyes and her mouth and inhaled deeply. If the darkness wanted in, let it in.

Tony opened her eyes and was staring into Ash's pale face. She was floating in the nothing several feet above Tony. In the darkness of the water she couldn't tell if Ash was alive or dead. She was naked just like she'd been earlier today in the river. Her eyes were closed, and her hands were behind her back where Tony couldn't see them. There was something wrapped around her neck, but Tony couldn't tell what. It was wrapped around her neck and then jammed into her mouth. Her mouth was open wide and whatever it was filled up the inside of her mouth.
The image of Ash faded and she could see Sean sitting in darkness with his head in his hands. A small bag was next to him. It was stuffed with some clothes. A few loose $20s were laid out at his feet. He was waiting. And though he didn't say a word, Tony knew what he was waiting for. He was waiting for the cover darkness to come to the cabin to get his money. The longer she looked, the more she saw. He had a small revolver tucked into the bag as well. And she could see a white power on the ground around him in a circle.
It was then that Tony became aware that she couldn't breathe and she was running out of air. She's have to end the vision soon.

Tony forced herself to relax again. She knew she was on borrowed time in this vision, but she wasn't done yet. There was more to see.

The image of Sean faded again, and she saw another vision. This one was of an old woman. The was thin and wrinkled but looked as hard as nails. She was standing over the bed of a sleeping little girl, The girl was sweaty in a dirty nightshirt and sleeping under a thin sheet beneath an open window. The windowsill was covered in white powder. The old woman said something to the little girl that Tony couldn't hear—"Good night," "I love you," "Sleep tight," maybe. The old woman left the room, careful to step over the line of white powder that covered the ground across the doorway and shut the door.
Tony looked again out the window and she could see the black swamp stretched out beyond the window as far as she could see. Over the forest of dead trees to her right she saw a vine-covered water tower. Big block letters—"Marion, SC"—were peeling off the side of the tower. The sky was an angry red.
