Tobarrus is keeping his guard up. If their opponents are dropping out of the fight, he will also lower his fists but until he is absolutely sure, he wants to be prepared for another attack.

Menno can see that people are starting to leave the fight. So once he's attacked the fat pirate, he'll go on the defensive and try to go out on the main deck.
