Cloten, Stein and probably the new Techmarine that entered it seems.

I'm not exactly certain on how to proceed next. Maybe the best option would be to fast forward to the end of the first mission, award exp and renown, and go with a new mission with the new kill-team?

How would that look for you? We could potentially jump the Spaces Marines directly to rank 2 and renown respected if you want to personalize your character more.

Well, I have no idea what to expect in such a game, but your idea sounds good to me.

lol, a level-up is a nice bonus for sticking around !

I'm still juggling the last touches (pdfs are thankless when it comes to going back and forth in order to look up Talents) but I'm still on board. Not that I'm complaining that I'd potentially start at Rank 2, but it will add some more workload to finalizing my character. Unless you want me to stay R1 for joining late.
Mar 27, 2020 4:12 pm
Ok then!

The three of you can start upgrading your characters to rank 2 with respected renown.

The rest of the first mission will happen in epilogue and we'll catch up in Watch Station Erioch when you are ready!

Thanks for sticking around!

just to be sure, since we start at 13000 xp and get to rank 2 at 17000 xp, that means we have 4000 xp to spend ? But all in the rank 1 tables...
and for the renown we are now at 20...
Mar 27, 2020 5:53 pm
That is correct, 4000 exp to spend, in rank 1 tables from any of the table that you qualify.

You have renown of 20, meaning you will have access to respected gear and exceptional version of equipment but, also, that you can pick Signature Wargear from the Respected and/or exceptional version if you choose that talent (which I recommend by experience).

In addition, if you want a talent that is not in your tables, explain to me how your character would go about learning it and I will set a exp cost that I feel is appropriate.
Since you will be probably shipped out for your next mission without an apothecary, one of you his allowed to buy the medicae skill for 400xp.

Feel free to ask any question you have or mention any particular thing you'd like the next mission to include :)

Alright then, sticking to R1 should make things easier for me. I promise I'll try to have my character finalized asap, I'm familiar with the system from plenty of WH Fantasy RP and a bit of Dark Heresy/Black Crusade, but still need to figure out the (Imperial) Space Marine side of things, both in terms of Talents, Gear etc as well as how to RP one.
Mar 27, 2020 11:17 pm
@Darkraider I'm am comfortable with you starting at 17000xp like the others, but if you want to start at the starting point, as a newly arrived member of the Deathwatch assigned with slightly more experienced ones, that could be interesting too. At the minimum, spend 2000 xp at creation (instead of the 1000xp mentionned in the rulebook) to give yourself a little more customization option. (your renown would start a 0, it is a personal, not a group, stat)

here's the firsts of (probably) many questions...

1) can signature gear be taken multiple times (ex: once for a power sword and once for a stalker bolter...)
2) could a bolter with a melee attachment (chain) be dual wielded with a chainsword ?
3) do 2 dual-wielded regular chainswords provide 2x the balanced bonus ?
4) could a character have saved xp to spend them at rank 2 or does it all have to be spent before ? (ex: signature wargear (master))
5) can I have a FENRIS-PATTERN WOLF HELM, it seems to have no req, but a respected (RoB p.143 & 147)
...
I'm thinking of making Stein a "hunter/scout" since Space wolves scouts are often veterans instead of novices...

...speaking of scout... would you allow me to rework my character as a tactical marine instead of an assault one ? why ? mainly because I just discovered the scout (First Founding p.60)

1) You can take signature wargear once per table you find it. the General Space Marine table allow one Signature wargear at Rank, and another at rank 5. If you find it in a table with a multiplier (X2, X3 etc) then you can buy it that many time. (Example is sound constitution X2 in General Space Marine table rank 1).

2) Yes

3)No, you have the bonus or you don't, it doesnt scale.

4)Your rank upgrade when you spend the exp, not when you earn it. So until you have spent enough exp in rank 1 stuff to reach a total of 17000 worth, you are not considered rank 2.

5)Once you have proved that you can adapt to the new structure of the Deathwatch (reach Respected renown), you get provided with the Fenris Pattern Helmet when on mission with a power armor. (I have to double-check, but I dont think the Fenris helmet could be used with a scout armor)

For the Tactical/Scout, i'm fine with it. Two assault marines in a 3 man team could be limiting. The lack of defense in the scout armor can be dangerous though and any mission that required sealed suit (like in Space or in a toxic environnment) would need to be done in the power armor or with alternative protection.

I'll rework Stein as a tactical / scout marine.

Here's the next volley of questions lol...

6) Unless someone else is taking the "command" skill, can I NOT take the wolf scout special ability "behind enemy lines" since it replaces the command skill and removes the ability to buy fellowship based talents... (FF p.60)

7) If I read well, I start with a power armor and a scout armor and get to choose the one I wear before each mission ? (FF p.61)

8) The bolter with fire selector I get as a tactical marine, if I choose a stalker bolter or storm bolter as signature gear, can I transfer the fire selector on it ?

6) No. Since all the change are included in the behind enemy line ability (like the new characteristic and advance tables) if you don't take it, you are not using the alternate Wolf scout option.

You may however build the same character idea with the normal Tactical Marine options, just ask me the exp cost for the extra skill/talents you would need.

Also, even with the fellowship limitation of Behind enemy lines, you can still buy the command skill as it becomes available in the General Space Marine advance (starting at rank 2)

7) That is how I understand it.

8)Yes, you may also include the upgrade in the Signature Wargear if you have enough point

9) Starting from the start with the same stats, could I choose the mk6 "Corvus" power armor ? It seems more adapted for the work of a scout when not taking the scout armor. (better auto-sensse and agility bonus)

9) Space Marine do not choose their armor, they inherit it. Since we are introducing new characters, I see no objection to you rerolling a new character for your new concept(thus rerolling the armor too), but it would not be the same one.

Alternatively, I am considering allowing each player to have two characters if its something you would be interested in. It is a potential solution to have more balanced team to face more epic challenges. Especially if a kind of more deadly "legacy" focus game would be to your liking.

Oh ! I really like that idea ! 2 characters would be awesome, a lot of work but awesome !!

I would be QUITE interested in this concept, but take my vote with a grain of salt as I'm already slow in completing my first character.

Two characters? I will embrace the consensus if that's what we are doing.

What are you two going to build for the second?

Alright so for Bannus, my Iron Hands Tech Marine I'll invest in:
- Technical Knock (500XP) to un-jam any gun as a Half Action.
- The Flesh is Weak 1 (800XP) for the Machine Trait with 1 Armour Point
- One advancement in each Strength, Toughness and Intelligence (200XP each)
For a grand total of 1.900 out of my starting 2.000XP

Now I just need to punch in the numbers for my starting weapons and gear and I'm all done.

As a secondary character, I'd probably try a Black Templar, seeing as we're already heavy on Assaults he's probably going for Devastator.
Mar 28, 2020 7:30 pm
If we go with that, the second character would start rank 1 with an additional 1000xp (for a total of 2000xp to spent at creation).

If more player joins, we will cap the number of Space Marine in the kill-team for each mission and player will choose which character to bring depending on the objectives.

Also, in case of a character death, the replacement rank will vary depending on roleplay, the Heroic sacrifice rule and the Gene-seed harvesting rule (p.271)

Also, the second character would be optional. Any player can decide to stick with the one if they prefer for any reason.
