[IC] Sudden Payback (Session 1)

The police seem almost annoyed at having to be here, perhaps as an outgrowth of the chief's vocal feud with the mayor over crime in the city. The mayor and her aide seem very curt when giving their statements. You also notice Lance talking to an officer, but you have little doubt that he doesn't share the same details he did with you.

Meanwhile, the paramedics pronounce four of the invaders dead: the three who fell from the roof and the fourth who didn't survive interrogation. They make little effort to bring the others back to consciousness, trying instead to get them stable before bringing them to waiting ambulances.

All of this takes a couple of hours, pushing almost to midnight by the time the EMTs get to you. A bearded paramedic named Larry confirms Marv's suspicion that he's concussed and tries to treat the injury. He's unfortunately unable to do much, but he suggests that Marv could try the hospital if he's really concerned. Otherwise, he should take things easy for the next week or so.

Another paramedic looks after Hank, but she suggests that his injuries need a bit more time to heal, as well and attempts to stitch up his head. He does so with no problem.
OOC:
So, Max already tried to heal Hank's Marv's critical and failed, right? Can't make another attempt for a week in-game, unfortunately. Ditto now for Marv now that the EMT failed. If y'all really want to get these taken care of, I'd let you ignore the one-week rule if you went to the hospital and spent a Story Point each. Then a doctor could look after you with a YYY pool plus a boost for having a nurse around.

Eskaton, Kermit you do have 3 advantage to spend (his equipment adds 1 automatically). Doesn't have to be directly related to healing; maybe the paramedic notices something potentially useful about the wound or the scene you're all in, for instance.

Nope, Hank didn't get healed. He just popped some painkillers.

OOC:
Right you are. I reread the IC, and Max tried to heal Marv but failed. Marv can try to get medial attention again in a week, or at the hospital for a Story Point flip.

We'll keep the roll above and ignore the second die. Hank's critical injury is now healed, and he has 3 advantage to spend. We can move on to the morning once we settle this medical stuff.
Jan 24, 2020 12:56 am
OOC:
The single success heals one wound, correct? Or just the critical injury? Do any wounds or strain heal with a night of rest?

Maybe for the advantages, he could accidentally (or out of the kindness of his heart) leave some painkillers behind?

OOC:
In this case, the roll was only to heal the critical injury, which is a separate use of Medicine from healing Wounds. At any rate, I thought you were able to painkiller your way back to full Wounds, right? You should all assume you find enough meds in the office to get yourselves back to full Wound Threshold. Your Strain will reset after a night's sleep.

OOC:
Not a bad idea, especially since I didn't say you could take any of Lance's meds you didn't need immediately. :)
As he gets ready to leave, the paramedic gives Hank a bottle of Tylenol. "You should be golden, but if you're still hurting in the morning, take some of these."
Jan 24, 2020 1:30 am
Finally, the dust settles, and everyone leaves but you and Lance. He looks up at the broken skylight, the damaged boxing ring, the blood-stained floors. "This place is a mess," he says, shaking his head. "I'm gonna lock up. I'll call some guys to look at the damage tomorrow. I need to get the skylight fixed before it rains, at least..." He turns to you all. "Thanks for what you did today. If you hadn't'a stepped up, those mooks would've taken me, maybe the mayor who knows were. If you're able to figure out what that attack was all about, all the better. Hank, you've got the spare keys to this place. You're welcome anytime if you need a place to lay low."

--------------

You all head back to your own beds for a much-needed rest (or stay on a cot in the One-Two, as the case may be). The next morning, you all reconvene at the One-Two and find Lance is gone. There's a note on the desk in his office, which reads:

"Hank, Max, Red, and Marv,

"Sorry to skip out like this, but those thugs won't stop coming just because we beat them once. I can't write down why I think they targeted me in case this falls into the wrong hands. Just know that the cops are probably in on it. (Watch out, Max — you're one of the only good ones.) I'm sure the mayor wasn't the target. I was. And there are others like me—leaders in the fighter community—who may be the next target. Please—stop whatever this is.

"I'll be laying low away from Rumble for a while. But I'll be watching the news. I think you four can stop this kidnapping ring. I think you can make the news.

"Yours,

"Lance"

Marv spends the night in the ER getting his concussion treated, and comes back to the gym in the morning with a pallet of coffees for the whole gang.

"Wooo." Marv lets out a long whistle as the grouo reads the note together. "This ain't no joke, boys. Who else in the city's got a rep like Lance?" Marv wracks his brain to try and think of Lance's peers.
OOC:
Did Hank share the drive in map with the group?
Jan 24, 2020 2:59 am
You'd suspect he could be referring to any number of people -- other gym owners, sensei, boxing coaches, high school wrestling coaches, gang leaders... It's a town known for its martial spirit.
OOC:
Rolling for the ER docs... Marv's trip to the ER got his concussion gone! Plus a Triumph! Could be used to get a lead from his all-nighter there, or for something else? Some piece of medical gear?

"You can say that again... I gotta say, I'm glad he got out of Dodge. Those guys are bad news, so I'd hate to see what their second try looks like." Hank sets his coffee on the table and reaches into his back pocket. "I don't know who their next target is, but I may have a clue."

He spreads the map of the drive in out on the table. "I'm no movie buff, but I think we're looking for a drive-in. Anyone got any idea where this is?"
OOC:
Is there a knowledge check we could use to find out? Or if there's a research check, Hank could have done a bit of digging last night.
Jan 24, 2020 2:01 pm
OOC:
medical kit for the advantage would be ideal but that's probably too big so maybe just a prescription for pain killers?

OOC:
Prescription works. In game terms, let's say it equates to one free Painkiller per encounter/scene for the rest of this session.
[ +- ] Drive-in Theater Map
The map Hank lays out looks like it was printed from Google Maps. The street and highway names suggest that the place is located somewhere near the outskirts of Bangertown. If you think about it a bit, you might be able to figure out some general information about the area—what type of neighborhood, if there are any known gangs, etc.
OOC:
Let's call it a Hard (PPP) Knowledge (Society) check with a boost for the map's place names and street names. If you all put your heads together, that's worth two more boosts to the character making the roll. One roll for the group, please.
Jan 24, 2020 10:00 pm
OOC:
Mine would just be 2 green, so I'll hang back and someone else can take it.
Jan 24, 2020 10:58 pm
OOC:
If I could spend the 5 xp I have sitting, I could turn my gg into a yg and would be willing to make the roll. Otherwise I'd be happy to assist to provide a boost dice to somebody with a stronger skill.
Jan 25, 2020 1:35 am
OOC:
Up to you, Eskaton! You're all blank slates on Knowledge skills, I think, like Medicine. Max has Intellect 3, so if anyone had a rank, the pool would be YGGBBB vs PPP. But that's the same pool if you spend a Story Point, which might be a shorter-term solution until someone wants to invest.
Jan 26, 2020 1:21 am
Ruby pulls up a seat, feeling optimistic about the day."I bet Lance has all kinds of safe houses, he's been around a long time."

No ranks here, two intellect to boot.
Jan 26, 2020 3:05 am
OOC:
Personally I'd prefer to either offer or accept an untrained assist on the check for an extra boost dice.
Jan 26, 2020 3:29 am
OOC:
That's fine. Remant can make the call, as he'll be offering the main brainpower. Without the SP, it'll be GGGBBBPPP.
Jan 27, 2020 1:47 pm
OOC:
Been at the DMV and working on my car over the weekend. I'm okay with rolling smarty stuff since I'm the student.
Max has really said anything since the previous night he studies the map for several minutes tapping it with a frown on his face.

The four of you put your heads together. You don't know much about the drive-in except that it's no longer in operation. Judging by its location at the outskirts of Bagertown, it's probably the hideout of some gang or another. It's also a bit of a trek, so you'll need wheels—there's no public transportation that far out. Max suspects he could learn more if he asked around at the precinct, but the trick would be how to do so without raising suspicions.
OOC:
Used the advantage to give you a tip off on how to learn more if you want to. So, what's the plan?
Jan 28, 2020 4:10 am
Marv scratches the side of his head, "That's way out there, man." He looks at the lot of them gathered around the table, and jangles the change in his pocket, trying to figure out how much he has. "No chance one of you has wheels is there? I bet a taxi fare that far would snap me right in half." He looks at Hank, and the pocket he'd seen him tuck Lance's key into, "Any chance that keyring's got one that turns an ignition?"
