Character Creation

you want us to be newcomers to Neo-Tokyo, but you also want us to incorporate contacts into our backstories. So no local contacts? Then I should make my contacts online contacts or accept that they will be mostly useless?
Jan 1, 2020 3:22 pm
I considered that and was intending to work through everyone's contacts with them before we start. I see these possibilities:

1a. You have one or two contacts in your current location. They somehow are still relevant even when you get to Tokyo. (I might weave it in.)
1b. We can't use those contacts somehow. In which case I'll create a story opportunity to gain new ones in Tokyo.
2. You have one or two Tokyo contacts already. They'll definitely pop up in the story.
3. You can't think of anything. Then give me whatever backstory you can. I need details to spin something!
4. You may or may not know each other. That's perfectly fine. There'll be individual threads first.

A few more questions:

For drone, A hornet drone delivering its toxin load in an attack would use autosoft maneuvering or would require a specific weapon autosoft?

About init and action, synaptic booster describe an extra init dice and an extra minor action per rating, so would that make the number of minor : 1 default +per init dice + 1 per rating?
Like as example situation , Hot sim VR +synaptic booster 1, would mean having 4 init dice, 1 major action and 6 minor actions (1 default, 4 for the dice and 1 for the rating 1)

For drone customization, does that mean that a weapon mount count as 3 (body) slot for normal and 6 slot for heavy?

For gear, do I understand properly Control rig price (Rating^2 x 30,000¥) as rating square X 30000 nuyens?

For specialization, Are we limited to 1 specialization at character creation?
Also, are other specialization than the listed one valid like, for example, jumped in as a perception or piloting specialization?

Alright...did a backstory finally

Okay tweaked my character sheet -- so are bug spirits something that we are going to even encounter and/or do they exist -- since they are not part of the 6e rule book? Are they even still part of the 6e Shadowrun setting?

Outdoors
Animal Handling may be selected as a specialisation. It uses Charisma as its linked attribute.
How would you deal with horse riding?
Would it be an athletic specialisation or would it be the animal handling specialization but with agility, or something else ?

I would think it would be under Outdoors category because Horse Riding would be a sub-category to Animal Handling and if you have ever rode a horse it has very little to do with Agility and a lot to do with getting the horse to do what you want it to do

We could end up building you a badass drone horse ;)
Jan 2, 2020 7:55 am
That would be pretty awesome...
What would be simpler, a horse with drone stats or vehicule stats (like the harley-davidson scorpion) ?
Worse case scenario, a harley-davidson still feels cowboy enough for now.

Drone and vehicle pretty much are the same. Since the horse would have the equivalent of 2 seat, i think it would count as a vehicle.

If you go that route, i suggest you invest and max its sensor rating with a sensor array package . That should give you some protection against hacking (sensor rating counts as device rating for drones) and allow you to add tons of perks.

If you have the cash, you add some autosoft for some nice dice pool for self piloting or defense pool (ratingX500 nuyens, max 9, +1 dice per rating) . An Harley equivalent start with pilot 1, so allow only one autosoft, and you'd need to check with GM for the price of higher pilot rating. The cheapest RCC could be a easy fix also, allowing 3 extra programs for 1400 nuyens. RCC is also another way to get some level of hacking protection, with some data processing and firewall.

Ive reworked my gear and augments in a slightly different focus, less drone racer and more dedicated to the ultimate flying experience. Hotaru will now perpetually live in slow-motion and try to adapt his settings dedicated to high intensity for the mundane activities of a not so legal citizen.

@thevagrant's questions first:

1. For drones such as the gnat, hornet, flying eye, etc, which have certain attacks features not described as 'mounted weapons', it'd make better sense for them to deliver their payload via a weapon targeting rather than a manouvering autosoft.

2. Yes, but to clarify, Hot Sim VR + Synaptic Booster 1 give:
Init dice: 1 for default init, 2 for VR init, 1 for synaptic booster
Actions: 1 major 1 minor for default, 2 minor from the VR dice, 1 minor for synaptic booster (you double-counted the first and last)

3. Yes to the calculation of weapon mounts. (6e uses Body/3, 5e additional Rigger rules abandons that formula but uses the optional rules for modification slots, hence the confusion).

4. Yes the control rig cost is Rating squared. Rating 1 is a x1 multiplier. Rating 2 is a x4 multiplier etc.

5. For specialisation, no more than 1 specialisation per skill at character creation. If you want to propose some specialisations feel free to ask. 'Jumped in'? Hmm, let me think on that one...

Let's park horse-riding as (a specific sort) of Animal Handling. So Outdoors (Animal Handling). Outdoors normally uses Intuition, but Animal Handling uses Charisma (from the older editions). Not sure about using Agility, which is used for very specific things in SR like firearms and close combat.

Hey @BedzoneII have you looked at the Borrow Language spell?

And yes i read your post on Languages but not understanding on how that affects the mechanics of things?

BedzoneII says:

2. Yes, but to clarify, Hot Sim VR + Synaptic Booster 1 give:
Init dice: 1 for default init, 2 for VR init, 1 for synaptic booster
Actions: 1 major 1 minor for default, 2 minor from the VR dice, 1 minor for synaptic booster (you double-counted the first and last)
As some description mentioned both extra init AND extra actions, while some other only refer to extra Init dice. It was not clear to me if the extra action were supplemental, or inclusives, with the actions from the init dices.

Thanks for clearing that up!

@deadpool_qc the latest character sheet you sent me looks good to go, just a few finishing touches is all. Go ahead and transfer to your GP sheet.

Everyone, it looks like for the five of you who've been working on character creation, we are largely done, apart from a few small questions to tie up. This means we can start! Get your avatars set up too if you haven't done so. I'll be writing up some intro posts this weekend. Thanks for being part of this. :)

Looking forward to it!

@falconloft let me know what your priority selections are for your character so I can do the maths

And whoever hasn't given me backstory, I need at least a bit so I have a start point for you.
