I'm not sure how that's a "Scandal" for you? The "Scandal" event is supposed to be a setback for your house. This seems like a good thing for your house, you stop me from stealing the secret and destroy my village and all its people as well. That seems more like a "Victory" or "Glory" for you. Do you see what I mean? I think it would be more of a Scandal for you if one person did escape the massacre with the secret, which meant Maa-Talia and any houses that Maa-Talia sold the secret to know how the Thunder weapons work and therefore are better prepared when facing it. I'm not sure that's what you want for your Scandal, but that's more like what a Scandal would be for you I think.

Actually, I just had a thought of how it might be a good fit. Let's say when Kraken first discovers the Thunder weapons and uses them it was devastating. No one knew how they worked or their limitations (e.g. only one shot per battle etc) so everyone was terrified of kraken. Maa-Talia sent in spies to learn the secrets (how it works and the limitations). Kraken finds out and the massacre happens but one person (or one boat) escapes with the secret, which spreads throughout the kingdom. Knowing the limitations makes it so people are willing to fight because they no longer think you're invincible, but it doesn't undermine the Thunder weapons themselves, they're still good, but people know there are strategies against the Thunder so are willing to fight and not just give in to you. Using the Thunder, Kraken takes control of the eastern shore of Scymira from Maa-Talia (Descent for Maa-Talia), but Maa-Talia is able to hold the western shores after developing strategies that minimized the advantages of the Thunder based on the limitations that they learned about and with help from allies.

What do you think?

Let's go with that !

Hi, I'm thinking we could sync up our Disease events, as I described it as a sort of plague. I haven't think of it totally yet, but it could anchor our timelines.
I also rolled a disease event fairly early in my houses history so I could link that up with you guys as well. Something like the black plague that swept through multiple houses?

I've actually got two disease events. The disease that RoAries and I collaborated on is towards the end of our histories (checkout House Revelos thread for the details), but I haven't got any details established for the first one, so maybe we should work together on that one. Let me know what you think. I like the idea of a black plague that sweeps through many houses in the NC. Maybe as a nomadic culture, you cause a lot of the spread!

We could link that with one of my Decay or Descent Events as well. When the plague broke out, that made my house turn inwards again, refusing to trade with outsiders or even to let them into their cities to prevent the plague to spread to them as well. And then they just didn't open up again for a long time

That sounds like a great idea.

@Jo and Bowl, Is there something that you two would be trading? From Bodaway to Sharva? Perhaps, Maa-Talia transports it between you two via our trade routes along the west coast. So the disease spreads from Bodaway to Maa-Talia but the journey to Sharva is long so they are extremely symptomatic when they arrive in Sharva. Sharva refuses to accept the goods and closes its borders to stop the disease and turns inward at that point for a long time.

House Bodaway would mostly be trading in livestock and leathers textiles, also pelts and firs from the mountainous side of their land.

I like the idea of the Sharva refusing the good shipment because of the disease and that causing tensions between Maa-Talia and Bodaway. It might have lead to Sharva refusing all shipments of goods from House Bodaway due to concerns about the good themselves being tainted?

I'll let bowl decide what the good was from your suggestions.

Yeah, I like your idea that it leads to more tension, maybe Maa-Talia tries to return the goods to Bodaway but they refuse, so Maa-Talia is out the cost. Maybe the disease wasn't even the worst part of it, the symptoms just looked really bad, but the bad deal with Sharva caused us to go to war with each other which was bad for both of us. Before we had always been allies, but this weakened us, so other houses were able to seize opportunities from us while we were battling each other.

Maybe the reason we've always been allies up to this point is that Maa-Talia think that our houses have a common ancestor. Not sure if you've read the origin story of my house, but if you do you can see why that might be a myth within the house. Whether it's true or not, the myth made Maa-Talia a supporter of Bodaway until the disease event.

This is all just brainstorming, I'm not set on it, let me know if you like/dislike any of it or if you have any suggestions.

I'd say out of those by things, livestock would be the most likely thing we'd need to import. And the most troublesome to transport for Maa-Talia as well.

Also a common source of disease 🤢

Land update to match Tamer's land adjustment, so my trading post/port is still close enough to match the fiction.

Want to join an alliance with House Fugue against Gasharde? I would feel that the whole ship repair monopoly threat would be relevant to you.

Yes, I don't like the idea of being reliant on them for all my ship repairs.

Event 1: Ascent
OOC:
Good way to start things off. I'll start thinking of the narrative to reflect the rolls.
