I'm not sure how that's a "Scandal" for you? The "Scandal" event is supposed to be a setback for your house. This seems like a good thing for your house, you stop me from stealing the secret and destroy my village and all its people as well. That seems more like a "Victory" or "Glory" for you. Do you see what I mean? I think it would be more of a Scandal for you if one person did escape the massacre with the secret, which meant Maa-Talia and any houses that Maa-Talia sold the secret to know how the Thunder weapons work and therefore are better prepared when facing it. I'm not sure that's what you want for your Scandal, but that's more like what a Scandal would be for you I think.
Actually, I just had a thought of how it might be a good fit. Let's say when Kraken first discovers the Thunder weapons and uses them it was devastating. No one knew how they worked or their limitations (e.g. only one shot per battle etc) so everyone was terrified of kraken. Maa-Talia sent in spies to learn the secrets (how it works and the limitations). Kraken finds out and the massacre happens but one person (or one boat) escapes with the secret, which spreads throughout the kingdom. Knowing the limitations makes it so people are willing to fight because they no longer think you're invincible, but it doesn't undermine the Thunder weapons themselves, they're still good, but people know there are strategies against the Thunder so are willing to fight and not just give in to you. Using the Thunder, Kraken takes control of the eastern shore of Scymira from Maa-Talia (Descent for Maa-Talia), but Maa-Talia is able to hold the western shores after developing strategies that minimized the advantages of the Thunder based on the limitations that they learned about and with help from allies.
