[IC] Sudden Payback (Session 2)

Hank reaches within his jacket and pulls out his weighted chain. "Pal, you just made a big mistake. I hope you like that cue, because you're gonna be real intimate with it." As he swings the chain to distract his attacker, his left hand shoots out to jab the man in the nose, making him drop like a sack of potatoes.
OOC:
Maneuver to pull out the weighted chain, then a jab punch. 2 boosts from the accurate quality, 1 setback from the guarded stance.

The chain gives me Defensive 2.

Since it's a success, that's 3 wounds, 3 strain (I think- 4 brawn +1 success +1 from damage of the punch). Not sure how soak affects that. He also has 2 setbacks on his next action from the jab, and I'll use the advantages to knock him prone.

Marv looks up from the man at Guy's feet, eyes wild, "Who wants some more!?!" He shouts, seeing Hank put the man who'd snapped a pool cue over his back drop to the floor, "DING DING I think we have a winner!" He hurdles over a table, takes a leap off the seat of a chair and comes flying down like a wrestler off the top rope, leading with his knee.
OOC:
1 maneuver to move from short to engaged (2 if I have to disengage from the dude Guy tapped out), then a knee to the man on the ground, giving me a boost for my melee attack due to his prone status. 3 + 2 success + 1 dmg from knee with pierce 2, I'll use the 2 adv to heal 2 strain.

The pool player doesn't know what hit him: First, his nose is broken and he's flat on the floor; next, he's taking the full weight of a leaping man in the gut. With a loud oof, he goes down for the count.

Nevertheless, the three other men by the pool table seem to have taken notice. "You're gonna pay for that, you sumbitch!" The three men, also wielding pool cues, turn their impromptu batons on Marv, still crouching over they're downed doubles partner. But while Marv feels the air of the wooden bludgeons, the three men, perhaps drunk, fail to connect with sufficient force to do any damage.

OOC:
I meant for them to attack Marv, not Max (I mistyped at first). Marv doesn't have any Defense, unless I've missed it.
As the firsts start flying fast and furious, Big Ole Betty leans forward over the bar toward Max. "Who do you think you are comin' in here and flappin' yer yap like you own the place? This is private property, and you're trespassing! My reg'lars got every right to throw your can out onto the asphalt, you hear?" Her arms gesticulate wildly, much faster than her size would suggest was possible.
OOC:
Scathing Tirade, setback for the bedlam. That's 2 Strain to Max (not Marv!). What are those 2 threat for?

Max sighs getting a headache "Techincally they don't, that's just a 245, assault and battery, and I'm sure if they have charges on them it's likely already on their sheet... just be glad there isn't a 245b yet. Deadly force with assault and battery and currently we've been using self defense Ma'am I will call this in and shut this place down if need be for everyone's safety." Max shouts back wagging a finger.

I feel like a hall monitor in highschool when I caught smokers all over again... get it together Maxy you're a grown man now.
OOC:
Hmm 2 strain back? How about realizing she's openly admitting to telling regulars to purposely assault people with deadly force and we've been using self defense which might actually be illegal technically and I just dimed myself out as a cop if she knows her codes. Leading to 2 strain of a headache.

Ah, thanks for the reminder, Eskaton! But that just brings them to net 0 successes, which still counts as a miss. But just barely.

Betty takes strain for her threats.
Jukebox

Betty purses her lips at Max's police-ese, perhaps worried that maybe there is something to his blather. But before she can retort, the sound of a record dropping and needle scratching. "Nothing but a Good Time" starts up as a group of lanky men in sweats slink away from the machine, cracking their knuckles and grinning like they've just taken a hit of something. Max finds himself surrounded by the trio, as they quickly do their best to encircle him and pull him down. Nevertheless, the cop manages to evade them... for now.

Whoosh.... Woosh... Woosh The pool cues cut through the air around Marv as he bobs and weaves. As the music kicks on, his dodging turns into a rhythmic head bob.

"Oh man... this is my JAM!" He stands up from the divot his knee left in the clown who tried to take Hank, and turns to the three men. "Looks like your partner had a bit too much. You boys looking for one more?" He rushes forward, dancing to one side in rhythm to the beat. "Ain't looookin for nooooothin, but a good time!" He sings, "And it don't get better than THIIIIS!" He says as his fist snaps out in a jab.
OOC:
2 strain to aim x2, throwing a jab.

+1 success from triumph, 1 success for berserk, 2 advantage for berserk. Total 6 damage which I'll do as strain. I'll spend the triumph to upgrade Hank's next check, and the 2 advantage to trigger knockdown if I can, otherwise to pass 2 boosts to the next PC. They take 2 setback from my jab to their next action.

A setback from not being able to land a hit on the nerdy one or a boost since I've seen their footwork for my attack back on the bar hoppers. Waits in the queue...

OOC:
You don't quite drop one with your damage alone. You sure you don't just want to fully drop one of the minions for the Triumph, Eskaton? It's usually the best use of Triumph versus minion groups. But passing an upgrade to Hank is also acceptable.

Max gets a boost against the Bar Hoppers for theat Threat.
The trio of pool players hit the ground after a quick pop pop pop from Marv's fists that just happens to match the beat of the drums during a guitar solo. At least two of them still seem to be conscious for the time being.

Seeing Guy reeling from the mug to the face, the group from the corner let out a hearty whoop whoop! as they climb onto their table and the back of their booth. "More where that came from, fogey!" says another as he hurls a pair of saucers discus style, shattering them agaisnt Guy's exposed flank.
OOC:

I'm guessing there are 3 groups of baddies, and the bar owner Betty, correct? Hard to visualize in the chaos lol. Also, for a rumble game, Duelist was probably a terrible talent for me to pick haha. I have no idea how these mob rules work. Anyway, going to attack the group that threw stuff at me.
"Who throws dishes and mugs, honestly?! Disrespectful punks, I'll teach you to respect your elders!"

OOC:
Yes, Guy needs to spend a maneuver to engage with the rodeo fans throwing things at him, but only one, as he's only short distance from them. Standard melee attacks are always Average (PP). Grappling is different, as it's opposed, but I take it you're striking these folks. Minions won't usually have defense (adding setbacks), but I'll let you know if they do. Go ahead and add PP to your difficulty above, Nezzeraj.

Sorry if the theater of the mind is getting confusing. The attached floor plan should give you an idea of the layout of the bar. The way I see it:
* The bartender (Big Ole Betty) is behind the bar, about two-thirds of the way toward the south/front entrance.
* Guy is standing up toward the top of the bar, near where it angles to the right.
* The people throwing things at him (a group of 4) are now crawling over a booth and table, say the middle one of the trio of booths at the top of the map.
* The pool players are all on the ground to the south of the pool table, with Marv and Hank standing over them.
* Max is still down toward the front entrance, to the left of the two bottommost tables at the south of the map.
* The bar hoppers are with him; they approached through the left-hand pathway between the western booths and the central tables. (Let's say the jukebox is in the corner outside the office.)

I'll do a quick explanation of minion rules in the OOC part of this game forum. But Duelist is actually a brilliant talent for you to have versus stronger enemies. It really swayed things in your favorite versus the first punk who picked a fight with you! You're now mopping up the riffraff you've stirred up though. :P
Apr 10, 2020 9:46 pm
As one of the pool players is starting to find his feet, Hank knocks the cue to the side and takes a swing at him. The man ducks just in time, but his cue knocks over a tray of glasses, which shatter loudly on the ground.
OOC:
Since no response from Eskaton, I'll take an upgrade. :)

One maneuver to aim, then another punch jab at the prone cue-swingers.

Dang it. I'll give 3 boosts to the next PC. Presenting it here as the breaking glass distracts whoever they're attacking.

Apologies; the holiday plus sharing a single computer with my wife for work put a damper on my posting the past few days.
As the bar crowd is almost totally involved in the fracas, now, Guy closes with the people throwing dishes at him and elbows a woman in rhinestones and denim in the nose. Meanwhile, Hank fails to drop another pool player for the time being, but a tray of glasses crashes to the floor, distracting the other billiards buffs. Max sees an opening with the group...

Max eyes dart about as he weaves through the handsy trio, "Now I can use lethal force Ma'am." pips up suddenly at the woman and beams a smile, "You three, sloppy foundation." Max states with the no nonsense style of someone who instructs selfdefense his gloved fists snaking out.
OOC:
Update: Jabbing 2 stun damage +2 setback, I'll go with Knockback (2), Recover 1 strain (1), give a setback to Ms. Betty (2) plus da spelling errors no one saw...

Again, 4 advantage is enough to drop a minion outright - Jab's crit rating is 4. Not doing that?

OOC:
Bit meta but that's 4 setbacks on a melee attack on me from the hoppers, at least one setback to social ranged NPC also so I think its helpful since she's still open and firing the feelings mortars at us which can more likely take us out rapidly when successful.
Apr 15, 2020 12:56 am
OOC:
OK. Just to clarify: Jab isn't an unarmed attack; it's a talent that you can apply to any unarmed attack. (I noticed you have you listed as a weapon, but it's not really -- it just trades some reduced damage for adding two setbacks to your opponent on a success.)
Hopped up or juked up, the handsy trio take a few fists to their kissers. Max's juridical pontifications seem to stir Big Ole Betty into a tizzy; the woman plods down to the end of the bar and screams, "Are you friggin' kidding me right now? You think you can storm into my bar and quote a bunch of legal mumbo-jumbo and not expect my patrons to retaliate? Can't you see you're outnumbered, you moron?"
