[IC] Sudden Payback (Session 2)

OOC:
I figure I'd list them separate as attacks vs Unarmed attack being quiet long. Is 3 threat enough to upgrade her next action since it sounds like a good threat but it's not looking good if she's looking around for us being deterred by numbers. Good for us though no hot dogs and beer mugs flying.
"Techincally they started assaulting us before I started talking, Ma'am. I mean I may not look very bright Ma'am but I am trying to make sure no one gets injured permanently. As for outnumbered... Eh..." Max states before shrugging with his guard still up waiting for his opponents to get up.
Apr 15, 2020 2:14 pm
OOC:
Upgrading her check would take a Triumph. I'll strain her with it; taking her out through attrition like this is a sound move on y'all's part, and we need to keep moving!
No sooner does the trio of lanky, tattooed men fall to the ground than Max feels their sweaty hands curling around his feet and calves. They seem a bit dazed from his blows, but they move almost like snakes, writhing on the beer-stained carpet as they begin pulling on the young cop, trying to pull him down with them. The young man manages to keep his feet, but before he knows it, the trio are back on their feet, ready to face the next round.
OOC:
They have the Jump Up talent, so they're on their feet. I'm learning that minion grapplers don't really work, I think, unless they are in far higher numbers! They pass a boost to the Pool Players.

Pool Players are up. I'll probably post their move after lunchtime.

You forgot the two setback from Jab. *adjusts glasses* I would make a comment of needing an adult when they were grabbing but I think that would just add to Betty's developing tick... *que music from the opal lounge in Polive Academy*
Apr 15, 2020 6:28 pm
OOC:
Oops; no, it's Defense I overlooked. Knocks 'em down to no Advantage.
The pool players do their best to shake off their disoriented nature, dodge the broken glass, and encircle Marv. "What is this guy on?" one of them wonders aloud, holding his pool cue out like a cross before a vampire. The three then strike at Marv simultaneously, a flurry of blurred wood swinging for his temples, his torso, his kneecaps... The man evades the blows, dancing, jumping, and weaving around the sticks.
OOC:
Auto-success but auto-threat knocks that down to 1 advantage only; will pass a boost to next ally.

Back around to a PC!

OOC:
Update 3 Stun damage and another setback to their next action. Let me know about the threat.

OOC:
1 strain to Max for the threat.
Max's kick fakeout takes the three by surprise, as he quickly decks each and sends them reeling for a moment.

With Guy throwing punches and elbows at them back at their booth, the Western-dressed Havoc Hounds duck back toward the bar and shower the older fighter in a cascade of cheap bar China.
OOC:
They disengaged and attacked. 5 more damage to Guy before Soak. 1 Threat for you to spend, then 3 PCs are up!

Note on Jab: It's good to give the setbacks, but remember you have to get through Soak to do damage, and only doing half damage is making that nearly impossible. At this rate, the fight's never going to end!

"What the hell, you cowards? If you're going to start something, have the guts to finish it and quit throwing dishes like third-rate Bond villains!"

Guy maneuvers to re-engage and goes for a roundhouse kick to nail all three of them.
OOC:
using Lucky Strike talent for a story point to add +2 damage to the attack.

"Hey man, I'm high on life!" Marv is still grooving to the beat as he dodges in time with the rhythm. He gives two quick rubs to the side of his nose with his thumb, "But if that ain't doin' the trick for ya', I knew this guy once who said the endorphins released when we were in pain were a lot like morphine! Lemme get you a hit!" He grabs the nearest of the pool-cue wielding barflys and gives him a taste of knee-pie.

As Marv tries to stay with the beat, he pulls the guy down too early for his knee thrust, and the man is pulled behind Marv, who's still blissfully bopping for long enough that the barfly turns back around, and Marv is surrounded.
OOC:
I see it like a Jackie Chan scene, complete with Marv's dramatic headtoss, and even though I'm "narratively" surrounded, everybody knows an action hero deals with surrounding minions with ease!

I'll use the 6 advantage to give 2 setbacks to their next check and 2 boosts to my next ally.

As the man turns and readies another strike on Marv, Hank grabs his shoulder and spins him back around. "What kind of party bar is this?! You goons won't even dance with my man Marv? Better sit this one out."

He reels back and lays the man out with a sock to the jaw, then throws the unconscious man into his friends and bowls them over.
OOC:
Increasing the difficulty by one to use Painful Blow, then aiming once and punching the pool cue crew.

Using the triumph for a crit to immediately drop one, then 8 damage before soak. Finally, using 2 advantages to knock them down, and passing a boost to the next PC.

Also, whenever this minion group uses a maneuver this combat (like standing up), they take 2 strain. That's my kind of roll. :)

Back in Black

It all happens so fast. First, the record on the jukebox changes, belting out the opening guitar attack of AC/DC's "Back in Black." At that very moment, Guy and Marv attack the rodeo crew and the pool boys in near unison, Guy launching a fierce roundhouse kick, and Marv a grab-and-knee. Guy's extended knee finds two of the dish-throwers, one in the face, the other in the stomach as it sweeps back around. Both fall to the ground, unconscious, to a clatter of dishes.

Meanwhile, the pool players just dodge Marv's attack, but just as the song's lyrics kick in, their dodging puts them right in the line of sight for Hank's fist. The big man decks one of the players and the throws him onto his two buddies. The trio collapse to the ground, one of them taking a painful fall right onto the tip of his pool cue. The man tries to crawl away, moving toward the door on his belly.

With the flurry of blows all around them, the sinewy, tattooed trio makes another attempt on Max, opting to use their unclipped fingernails like claws... Clearly more comfortable grabbing than they are scratching, the trio is a bit too ginger with the attack, and Max weaves out of the way.

[ooc]What a round indeed! Guy dropped 2/4 rodeo fans, and Hank dropped 2/3 remaining pool players.

2 Strain on Guy for the 2 Threat.

Bar Hoppers passed a boost to Betty.

"Unbelievable!" the bartender screams. "Now I've gotta call the paramedics for my patrons! You better believe you'll be paying their hospital bills, you or your department -- that is if you're really a cop! Ambulances don't come cheap, you know! I'm calling right now!"

She'll heal a strain for that Advantage. Using the Triumph to upgrade her next check.

Max wags a finger, "Destruction of Property, Assault and Battery" Max thumbs at the remaining pool players, "Assualt and Battery, Destruction of Property" he states pointing at the remains of the tableware tossers, "These guys are mostly just stranger danger." he states as the guys around him. "Don't worry Ma'am we don't need you to call us an ambulance, and we're not pressing charges yet." Max states assessing the situation. "Now this is how you start to throw a punch..." he instructs and moves to Jab the trio before transitioning into a spinning backfist to start calming them down since he's been doing a number to their noses so far probably.
OOC:
Smaller numbers now. Well that's embarrassing...

Whether it's his rookie status or the reminder of the carnage back at the gym, Max feels a sense of weight on his chest despite his assertions of probable cause. Betty senses an opening and lights back into the cop:

"I pay my taxes! It's bad enough that it takes twenty minutes to get a cop out here when you need one, but then you come in here and bust the place up and assault my patrons?" She's turning red. "I oughta call the evening news about this! The nerve!"
OOC:
With the 2 threat from last time, that's 7 strain to Max. 1 strain back to her?

Then it's 3 PCs. GO!

"Good lookin' out, Hank!" Without breaking his cheese-eating grin, or thumbs up, he springs off his toes, feinting with one leg before bringing the second up like a rocket in the remaining pool-player's gut.

Seeing Max surrounded, Hank vaults over an overturned chair and charges the rookie's attackers, flooring one of them with a big clothesline and crashing into the others.

"Lady, I'm getting REAL DAMN TIRED of your big mouth and your snot-nosed punks!"

That's 7 damage minus soak to the grapplers. I'll use the 4 advantages for a crit to immediately drop one of them.

"We haven't broken ANYTHING! And if we wanted to assault people they'd be dead!" Max yells back before kicking a seat and sitting down his face reddening and his breathing irregular.
OOC:
I'm assuming ST is straight Strain damage if so I'm down, if not I'll change my post after I calculate where we're at. One strain back is good.
Apr 21, 2020 1:29 pm
OOC:
3 Strain to Guy for the Threat, who feels he pulled a muscle with that attack.
Hank, Guy, and Marv make quick work of several more of the remaining ruffians. All four pool players, three of the four rodeo fans, and two of of the three tweakers writhe on the floor in pain or else lie motionless. As Big Ole Betty raises a finger, a gruff voice shouts, "ENOUGH!"

A man with a long, blond ponytail and several days of stubble stands up from a booth in the corner, where he'd previously gone unnoticed. "I know they're looking for me. Their faces were all over the news for what they done to the Havoc Hounds." He stands to face you, but his slumped shoulders and hunched posture tell you this is a man whose spirits are broken.
OOC:
So, assume the remaining minions (one Rodeo Fan, one Bar Hopper) are not attacking. If you want to subdue this guy physically, we can cycle back around to the first PC initiative slot.
Apr 21, 2020 9:40 pm
Hank turns to the man. "What we done to them? Man, you got a pretty way to ignore the fact that they attacked with bricks and bats, and tried to drag an innocent man into an unmarked van. Or do your friends not know that part of the story?" His face is hard as he glances at the other patrons.

"So you're Jimmy I guess? Believe it or not, we're here for information, not to bust heads. So we can either have a conversation, or move into round two now that our blood's up. Your call."
