[IC] Sudden Payback (Session 2)

Max reads and text back where they are and the need for a trunk of a car, a dirty sock, and a ride to a warehouse to free some falsely imprisoned people that should possibly be in jail.
Aug 20, 2020 1:02 am
Guy takes his classic ride to Max's hideout. You all pile in, Duke included, and throw Petrovich in the trunk. He may come in handy yet, but you're not quite sure how just yet. It's only a short way to where Tasha and the Pantones are hiding, so they pile into a minivan and follow you into Pillsville.
[ +- ] sketchy warehouse
The streets are eerily empty as a light drizzle starts up. Guy keeps an eye out for police patrols, but the only thing up at this hour seems to be stray cats. The address given by Max's contact leads to a warehouse district that looks like it hasn't been used since the mid-90s. A van not unlike the one Jimmy and his Havoc Hounds used is parked haphazardly nearby.
OOC:
So, let's use some skills, shall we? Tell me something your character might do at this point, and we can hash out some rolls. Interrogate Petrovich? Scout out the warehouse on foot? Stake it out from afar for a few minutes? Something else?
Aug 20, 2020 1:36 pm
Guy parks his car inconspicuously across the street from the warehouse to keep a stakeout in case anyone tried to get in or out.
Aug 20, 2020 1:41 pm
OOC:
Average Perception check for the stakeout. 1 setback for darkness. We'll assume a timeframe of about half an hour?
Aug 20, 2020 2:38 pm
OOC:
Sounds good.
OOC:

Thirty minutes pass, and none of you detects any sort of movement at the warehouse—nothing to indicate guards or people outside or in. But you fear that waiting much longer may allow the police to catch up to you, as they're likely still on your trail.
OOC:
1 boost to another check from the advantage. Any other prep?

OOC:
I'm assuming here that we were able to fully restrain and gag Petrovich before tossing him in the trunk. If not, I wouldn't risk opening it this close to the warehouse.

Assuming he is, is the cattle prod and his current trunk residency enough for a boost or two?
Hank nervously drums his fingers on his knees. "Shit. If these guys are already gone, our goose is cooked. All this is just speculation unless we find the kidnappers. I'm gonna phone a friend." He opens the door quietly, then slips out with the cattle prod and goes around to the trunk. He opens it and nudges the big man awake with the inert cattle prod beneath his chin.

"Morning, sweetness. We've got the warehouse, and we've got it surrounded. You can do your friends a favor and tell us what we're walking into so no one else gets hurt.

If you don't? You're a smart guy. Smart enough to know how hot a car gets in the middle of summer in Drummond. If we forget where we parked, no telling how many days it'll take for somebody to find this car. We hid it pretty well. But then you're a big strong man, so maybe you'll be fine.

What do you say, Vic? Want to be a pal to your pals and tell us who's in there?"

Hank crackles the cattle prod in front of Petrovich's face, then waits for a head nod before deciding if he'll remove the gag.

Petrovich's eyes widen at Hank's threats as the rain picks up and pelts his cheeks. For a moment, you think he might be about to try to make a break for it. Then he starts to mumble something through the gag. Hank makes sure once more he won't do anything stupid, and the prison guard rolls his eye like a teenager and nods yes. Hank takes the gag out.

"There are four guards, and two of them went to your One-Two with me. Only two are left. They watch the perimeter with security cameras. I don't know how many there are. Oleg set them up. Now can I get out of this car?"
OOC:
Marv had some binoculars, I recall, so you could try an Average (PP) Perception check with 2 setbacks (darkness and rain) to see if you can't spot the cameras on this side of the building. Then you'd have to figure out a way to avoid them or destroy them from afar.
Aug 22, 2020 11:41 am
"Not just yet, but don't worry. We'll wake you up before we go-go." Hank slips the gag back into place before Petrovich can respond, then closes the trunk again. He returns to the car and tells the others what he learned.

"Marv, you still got those binoculars? Let's see if we can figure out where these cameras are."
OOC:
Not sure if Eskaton is still around, but I'll pause and let somebody else perceive. Mine isn't the best.
Aug 24, 2020 6:43 pm
"You're still going to be detained for your safety. Oleg sounds like a new name." Max states checking out the area mentioned reaching for the binoculars if available.

Petrovich screams a muffled scream and gesticulates wildly as Hank shuts the trunk back on him.

Max takes Marv's binoculars and scans the front of the building. From what he can make out through the heavy rain, the door seems to be set up much like the one Hank and Marv described at the first warehouse. There seems to be one of those "ring" cameras positioned at about the level of the door handle. It's a simple device, something they could have bought at the local Lowe's. Max knows it relies on a local wifi connection to work, which could prove a vulnerability. Max doesn't see any other sign of cameras on this side of the building.
OOC:
Gave a possible way to thwart the camera for the advantage.
Aug 25, 2020 9:35 pm
"Yeah, maybe this Oleg is Vic's... partner? Boss? Either way, I don't think we want him seeing us. So we've got one camera on this side. Any a you boys know how to bring it down from your phones? If not, we may be able to find a better way in."
OOC:
Are there any windows on this side that aren't in view of the cameras? And if we want to interrupt their wifi, what roll would that be? Is there a computers skill? I've got a bit of skulduggery if that works, but not much (YG)
Aug 26, 2020 12:47 am
OOC:
I forgot there's no Computers skill in this setting! :D I think Skulduggery or Knowledge (Geography) are reasonable substitutes.

The warehouse has tons of windows. You could definitely just try to sneak in that way if you wanted. Note that they're all on the second story and above, though, so you'll either need to climb or find a ladder or other way to hoist yourselves up.

Deactivating a wifi security camera can be done in three ways: 1) with a wi-fi jammer (maybe one of the Pantones knows a guy who has one for a SP, but it'd take him a half hour or so to get here), 2) cutting the coaxial cable that runs the Internet (would have to shimmy under the building), or 3) cutting the power (shimmy up a pole and break open the power box). Of course, you could also just throw something and try to destroy the damned thing.
Aug 27, 2020 9:25 pm
"No luck, huh? Well, I done a bit o' wiring back at the One Two, so I may be able to find the wire and cut it from the outside." Hank rummages around in his pockets for his multi-tool.
OOC:
Well, shimmying under to cut the cable seems like a reasonable approach to Hank the Handyman. Would that still be skulduggery? Or maybe Athletics to wiggle under there? I've got a bitchin' Athletics score burning a hole in my pocket. :)
Aug 28, 2020 2:30 am
OOC:
I'd say Average (PP) Coordination, but you can use Athletics instead by going with a Hard (PPP) difficulty. :)
Aug 28, 2020 10:00 pm
"Got it." Hank grins as he pulls out the multi-tool and flips it around like a gunslinger. "Wish me luck. If I start hollering, you'll know the crawlspace rats got to me."

Hank casually crosses the street, careful to stay out of sight of the camera, and hoping nobody is looking out the windows. As he nears the building, he takes another quick glance around for witnesses, then leans down and pulls away a vent cover before sliding in. As the posts that support the building get tighter, he has to reach ahead and pull himself along on his belly.
OOC:
I can never roll like that in combat... :)

With a flashlight clenched between his teeth, Hank finds the crawlspace under the warehouse full of cobwebs, rat dung, and roaches, but fortunately nothing worse. He finds the coaxial cable without much trouble. Wiping his brow from the stuffy atmosphere, he fishes his multi-tool out of his pocket. He hears the muffled sounds of what seems like a soccer match playing from a TV, presumably just above him inside the warehouse. Hank positions the wire cutters, waits for his moment, and... SNIP. The sound above changes to angry cursing in a Slavic language. Hank realizes the camera may have been deactivated, but the people inside have noticed.
OOC:
Y'all have a clear approach. Plans for taking the warehouse?

OOC:
Are there those big bay roll-up doors? Because my plan is just driving my car through that into the warehouse lol.

OOC:
The door camera was on a regular office-type door door. But, yeah, there are bay doors, too.

Just driving through sounds awesome and genre-appropriate. But I will upgrade the Driving check automatically (and perhaps again with a Story Point) to reflect the fact that you don't know where the prisoners are being kept yet. ;) Those penalties wouldn't apply if you tried to determine that fact first.

Guy sends out a quick text. "I have an idea. My car through the bay doors. Like a Trojan horse, except way less subtle. Get in if you'd like to be part of the vanguard. You've got 1 minute."
