OOC Character Creation

Mar 27, 2020 5:14 pm
Hey gang!

I'm excited that there's interest emerging before even having made an Interest check thread.

We'll be using pretty standard Genesys stuff for the most part, as far as Skill list, and Archetypes, and as described in the SETTING DETAILS thread, you'll be making your own Careers. I want you all to coordinate heavily on the types of characters you're interested in, and creating. With the knowledge that we will be focusing on "Shadow of the Colossus" style battles, HOWEVER also as described in the SETTING DETAILS, I will be incorporating more standard rpg elements and gameplay within those battles, and leaking up to those battles, too, to try and make it a "full" ttrpg experience...

So, yea, what kind of characters do you want to play? What Skills do you want your PC to focus on?

I have 3 basic ideas built of the concept that martial prowess will likely be more useful than social nicety in this setting:

An alpine focused "miner" background who would be a dual wielding melee class that could assist others in climbing these monsters as well as on-the-fly failsafes to protect them from mistakes.

A classic "god-of-war" style melee monster, probably wielding a two hander who's first thought is to run through a wall rather than figure out if there's a door further down.

A ranged-base martial character (maybe with grappling hook arrows that can run climbing lines?) who'll support from below, beat off smaller support creatures and AIM FOR THE EYES!

How do you see the education knowledge skill applying to this setting as opposed to lore?
Mar 27, 2020 5:48 pm
I like all that!

Though I will say, I do plan to incorporate significant Social Skills aspects into the gameplay, using Genesys' Social Encounter rules. You will have to interact with people to learn about the titans, to gain different types of aid, etc. The most significant faction of NPCs in this game will be humans - Cultists of the Titans. There will be Social stuff...

RE: Education v. Lore, Lore would be knowing things about the mythic world, Education would be anything from knowing about the natural world, to regional info (what are these people/this place like?), to politics, to engineering type stuff, etc. Make sense?

I feel like Knowledge Skills are more valuable when they're very broad...
Mar 27, 2020 6:48 pm
Yeah totally makes sense. That outline is exactly the sort of answer I was looking for. Are you bringing magic into this game?
Mar 27, 2020 7:00 pm
No Player-magic, at least not yet. I'll copy the applicable Skill list for the setting into the first post of this thread from the SETTING DETAILS.

Hey gang, I've got a tentative/experimental gear list up. Which means we should be able to start character creation.

This is all a work in progress, so talk to me about what is and is not working for you as you work through your PC.

Ready? Let's go!

Hey guys, I put a sheet up. One thing I wasn't sure of was the total # of career skills you wanted us to take so I indicated 8 (which I think is what most CRB careers have) and spent 500 gold to do my gear list. Let me know if either of these are wrong or if you'd be open to a career base gear pack that broke the 500 limit (e.g. I'd love a 1 gp rope, maybe a backpack, or rations as part of my alpinist career).

Linked the sheet to the game and can also be found here:

Both of those assumptions are correct, thanks Eskaton! I'll add them to the first post here so that it's expressed specifically tho.

I wanted the gear costs to be a little severe, so that there was room for "growth"/gear progression within the limited bounds I've provided.

This reminds me, I will link to the community Talents Expansion and maybe some other docs too, cuz there are some Talents that I want to call out specifically for this setting...

charlietk, I know most of you're experience is with the swrpg so just let is know if you have any questions.

Oh and Eskaton, could you plz submit your PC through the Game page? I like being able to just click on avatars to peek at character sheets.
Mar 30, 2020 4:04 pm
I think I did, I just posted the link here too so other players could see. Let me know if I did something wrong through the game page.

Wanted to give you an update Eskaton.

I'm doing some map/art/adventure prep, and am gonna see if I can recruit any more folks, and then we'll roll!

Eskaton, your PC should be approved, but I haven't looked at it yet actually...

I wanted to add a list of Talents that might be especially handy in this setting from the Community Expanded Talents list (specifically hoping to find something like Impossible Fall and/or Conditioned from swrpg...), but haven't gotten around to that yet either. But basically, if you want to continue to tweak your PC using that or other resources feel free.

Let me know if you have any questions, or input, in the meantime! Thanks!

Oh, cool! I'm saving for the dual wielding talent at the moment, but I'll take a look through the expanded talents and see if maybe there's a more appropriate tier 1 in there. Thanks for the head's up!

Was it possible to see Eskaton’s character sheet somewhere? Just so I can make sure that I’m not forgetting anything as I create mine.

My character idea is basically an athlete/decathlete (I guess that’d be based on the Gymnast archetype) who really wants to be a philosopher but doesn’t have the aptitude for it at all. Finer details still TBD. Does that sound alright?
Apr 2, 2020 4:52 am
I had two concepts come to mind lemme know what you think. Either an intellectual character maybe a teacher, well versed in the legends of these creatures. Or a rascal, but not like a thief, he'd be some sort of street performer (maybe with a small pet that does tricks).

I know we will be trying to tackle giants, but I like to do something a little different from everyone else.
Apr 2, 2020 5:03 am
Will be chiming in but if Eskaton has the mostly pure fighter I think perhaps combat engineer type
Apr 2, 2020 5:40 am
My character sheet is linked above. If you have trouble seeing it I can screenshot it
Apr 2, 2020 6:07 am
The URL above (?linked?) states "No Character Found"
Apr 2, 2020 6:43 am
Ah, must not be able to look at other character's sheets. Seems silly, but I don't totally get some of the kinks in GP.

Here it is in two screenshots

If I buy a javelin as a ranged weapon, would that literally only be one javelin per 150 gold? Or how does that work?

Thanks for the screenshots Eskaton!

I've submitted my character now if you want to check it. I think I'm within the parameters though. Does the woven armor also have an encumbrance of 2 when it's worn? Read something in the manual about armor having different encumbrance scores for worn/carried. Doesn't matter too much since my encumbrance is 8/8, but it did make me consider whether to get a backpack.

All you have to do, to allow everyone to see your character sheets is go to the "Characters" tab, and click on the icon that looks like a folder or something in line with the character sheet that you want to make visible.

Also, I do want to mention, I only intended to have 3 Players for this, as I wasn't fully confident in exactly how diverse the gameplay would/could be for titan battles. But we have 4 Players, cuz I'm a big ol softy ;P And because of that, it may make sense to have 2 Brawn/warrior-types...
