"Vidár! Caution! Deceit comes naturally to agents of the Shadow, it may not be as dead as it seems.
Astrid will knock another arrow to her bow and take a few steps forward, warily studying it for signs of life.

The corpse doesn't move at all as Vidar holds a fire to it's skin. But it's a creature of flesh and bone, and so while the hair readily burns away and the flesh will bubble and eventually char under the direct flame of the torch - all the while stinking in an incredibly foul way, it doesn't catch fire in a way that will propagate and consume the corpse on its own. It will take a much larger secondary source to burn the body entirely.
OOC:
Good job, gang! Ya got it! I thought it might get away again here at the end, but you got it. Well done!

"It don't look like its moving. Either it don't feel the pain or it may be gone."
Winfred looks about looking for the girl. "But where did that girl go?"
Aug 24, 2020 7:30 pm
"That may have been 'a girl' once, but no longer. I've heard tell of dread spirits that could change their form to suite their dark aims. We are fortunate to have our lives. This creature of darkness was no trifle. But we have rid our world of it's foulness. Let us cleanse the remains with fire."

Finrod slung his bow and moved to the body in order tonrecover his arrow. Then he looked it over with disdain, feeling he owed it to future generations to learn about this evil and to teach others about it for their own edification. Finrod moved to pick the body up, rubbing his hands in the collected soil and weeds that grew out of the rotting floor boards.

Being there is certainly no female here, so the chokes down the theory she was actually some from of the creature. The thought still hurts some. That was a very vile creature. Killing it was appropriate.

Winfred walks back towards the safe haven the've created Again, this is why you don't leave Winfred..

There is no sign of the woman. But an inspection of the grounds will reveal that her tracks went only a couple of meters inside the door and then disappear completely... Likely because she... or it... the Secret Shadow... had leapt up into rafters.

Whether it was infact a cursed woman, twisted into a beast, or a creature of evil that could change it's form as Finrod speculated, the company might never know. Though it can now be certain they are one in the same creature. And Astrid and Finrod both are unlikely to forget that human face which they had fired upon with deadly intent. Whether it was a creature of darkness or not, it most certainly looked and sounded human with it's pleas.

It takes some time to drag timbers and branches and assemble a pyre, and the fire's light will burn long into the morning and next day, but destroying the thing irrevocably will soon be done and the long night over.
OOC:
Please do keep on with any IC talk about the night's event.

But you can all level up with the night's Short Rest.

Vidar's going to try to play a rousing song as he's a bit full of nervous energy after all that.

Edit - it's from the heart, and definitely emotive, but not catchy

OOC:
Expended 1 HD of healing. Between that and Dreams of Elder Days Caramthiel is fully healed at the end of the short rest.
Almost as usual Caranthiel isn't the much of a help during setup camp and such. But he does take time to take care of his wounds. If anyone else is hurt he will look over their wounds too, but really he hasn't any healing powers left other than his healing kit and skills.

Finrod watched the pyre burn like a fixed sentry, as if he didn't personally oversee each measure of ash converted from the foul creature's body then it might not take. He stood apart from it's heat, as much as possible, and took no comfort from it, even lighting small, damp sticks of wood from the group's campfire to hold in his hand to give off their 'clean' smoke. There was some talk, some sleeping, but he had mood for neither, though he did accept help healing his wounds, when offered.

It was still dark out when Finrod sat down against his pack and shut his eyes. He had checked on the pony, if for nothing else than to make sure it had not morphed into a dragon during the night, then he had looked into the smouldering pyre to view the bones therein, then gave himself to some much needed rest.

Caranthiel will dress and clean up Finrod's wounds. That is best he can really do at this time till morning.
