"I say we wait for nightfall and walk in. If the Kobalds question us we ignore them and keep walking, if humans or other humanoids stop us just say we were waiting to ambush any stragglers but nobody came."
Jun 24, 2020 7:08 pm
'As long as they do not know who they set on the ambush, it could work. Or we go now and do not have to explain lateness'

Zachary rubs his chin with his thumb. Doubt is visible on his face.

Darkness can be our ally or our demise. There may be more patrols during the night

"Night, and firelight can help disguise our features." Kel admits, "But I think the only one among us naturally gifted at seeing in the dark is Kirsk, and I fear that our enemy may have that skill in abundance." She scratches her chin as she thinks.

"Might as well just go for it, I say. At least, if they recognize us, we have a fair chance of making an escape when we can see where we're running off to."

Okay, so as far as I read it that’s two votes for going now, one for waiting until dark, and one undecided? Regardless of what you do, can you all give me a charisma check please. Just for future reference

Just need one from you Kel
You all take a deep breath and walk up to the gate. You feel tense as you walk through it, but nothing seems to happen. You walk past a big group of kobolds but they don't even give you a second glance. As you walk deeper into the camp you see several more huts, some of which look more solidly built which you assume are inhabited by cultists. The atmosphere is generally quite loose, although you see small group of guards patrolling.

To the south you see a group of huts and several large poles with manacles attached to them. Towards the back of the camp to the east, you see a large tent that is guarded by four very serious and well armed guards, each of them have what you could best describe as a large, draconoid hound on an iron leash. You see a few revelling cultist get a little too close and they are instantly scared away by the snarling beasts. On the eastern wall of the camp there's a large cave opening, guarded by two cultists in uniform, and a little south of the big tent you can see a big stake with a humanoid figure tied to it.

A couple of cultists approach you and hands you mugs of ale, "NEWCOMERS! What took you so long? It's drinking time!"

I added it to my last post, but I'm more than willing to give it another shot!
Kel doesn't trust herself to speak to the cultists, knowing how tongue-tied she can get anymore when she tries to lie. She merely smiles, takes the mug, and uses it to hide her face.

Kirsk slams the ale back"Ahh... We wanted to see if anybody was following us." Then put his arm around Octavia... "and Celebrate in our own way... " with that he laughs and leads his friends further in trying to find a quiet spot. Once around the corner he quickly takes his arm from around Octavia and with big eyes and a slight tinge of red to his cheeks. "I'm very sorry... I meant no disrespect, I was just trying to get us quickly away. Please accept my apologies for any dishonor I may have caused."

Kirsk, the men laughs and gives you an incredibly awkward high five before you leave them. You awkwardly hang around for a little while, trying to observe the camp from the inside. After a short while you see a few of the higher ranking officers walk through the camp and angrily try to get the lower ranking cultists under control again. You see that they little by little dress back up in their cultist robes, and sober somewhat up. There also seems to be small guard patrols forming up, and a group of guards seem to take place at the main entrance.

You notice that there seems to be smaller groups of people that doesn’t seem to be cultists at all. Some of them point and laugh as they dress up in their flayed tunics.

You also notice a group of six men and two women dressed in ragged clothes tending cooking fires. Four cultists of what Kirsk knows to be of the rank "Dragonclaws" seem to guard them which indicates that they’re prisoners. However none of them fits Leosin’s description.

Octavia stays quite, following Kel's example of just drinking to not make any mistakes and give something away. After being led away she smiles. 'Do not worry. I took no offense.

She grits her teeth as she see's those cooking. She had no doubt they were slaves, and had to hold herself back from immeadiatly going to free them.

'We do not leave without those 8.' She says quietly to her companions.

OOC:
Just as a quick reminder, these were the questions that Governor Nighthill had: "What exactly is their end game? How many people where involved with this attack and who? Where are they taking the loot? Are they planning to strike again and where?". You kinda know a decent enough answer to the second question. The three other questions are still up in the air. It's NOT certain that you can get answers to all the questions at this point. On top of that there's also the matter of rescuing Leosin and potentially the eight other prisoners if you wish to try that. Let me know what you'd like to do or if you have any questions
Jun 30, 2020 11:37 pm
Kel looks at the eight prisoners, and then at the camp around them.

She gives Octavia a bit of side eye. "We'll need a damn good distraction. No way we can get them out of here with all these people around without some sort of fight. And any fight in this camp would likely result in our very quick end." she reasons quietly. Taking a deep breath, she looks at her more fully. "I want to save them too, but sometimes the greater good must come first, and not just the good we can see. Our information from this incursion outweighs what we can do for them, but I am all for being proven wrong."
Jul 1, 2020 5:39 pm
"First things first, we need to find information. We can divide up, or we can stay together but we should find some more drunk groups and try to get them talking. If we can find where all the ale is coming from we can bring it around and try to loosen some tongues." Kirsk does a quick scan, "While we are at it, perhaps we can cause a little disturbance, talk about why the kobalds had the good ale, or some other sort of problem and maybe get some derision in the ranks. If we are successful, perhaps we can rescue everybody."

OOC:
Who do you decide to go to, some of the mercenaries or some of the cultists? And are you sticking together?
Jul 2, 2020 9:37 pm
'Not right now I realise that, but once we have our information, we need to at least look into possibilities. Even if saying we have been ordered to put them to work elsewhere. She finally takes her eyes away from the slaves.

'I am not sure how good I am at deceit, but I have some old adventuring stories I can use to try and get in with the mercenaries. they tend to like boasting and sharing tales. I do not feel I can blend in well with the cultist, so someone else should probably go.'
