"Let me see if I can calm these hounds distemper"

Severus reaches for his rations and pulls out some dried meat.

"Now boy, calm down and you eat, alright?
OOC:
DM, Severus is proficient in animal handling with a +2 modifier. Can we see if he can calm the dogs enough to reach Kwil and free him? Happy for you to roll

OOC:
@ctme2000: I don't think a coup de grace would be possible against these wolves. They are vicious and hungry wish to attack anything they can get at. Attempting to engage in melee will result in a like response from them, though ranged attacks certainly have some benefit at the moment.
Severus attempts to buy the complacency of the hungry wolves with some strips of dried meats. As he extends his hand out toward the first animal all three lunge for the barbarian, snapping at his hands, less concerned with the small piece of dried meat offered as they are with the fresh meat offering it.

"We're going to have to kill them, Osvaldo" Severus says as he draws his Javelin.
OOC:
DM, is there any way to get to the human prisoner avoiding the lunges of the wolves?

OOC:
@therescuant: Not really. The wolves appear to have been strategically placed so that they can pretty well fill the "doorway" leading into cave room if there's something to attack.
Oct 5, 2020 8:54 pm
The barbarian warrior stands side on and takes aim at the wolf on the left of the cave; his eyes lock on the raging eyes of his target. With an effort that forces the air from his lungs, Severus hurls the javelin with savage intensity.

Severus throws his javelin at the wolves guarding the entrance to this room. It strikes one of them broadside, but fails to hit tip first, and the wolf snaps angrily at it as it sails past and goes clattering into the the cave behind them, landing at the feet of the man deeper inside.

Osvaldo's arrow goes sailing past the pack, clattering off the wall behind and ricocheting dangerously close to the head of the man in the room.
OOC:
Let's run Initiative...

Turn order is as follows:
-->1. Osvaldo (Undamaged with 8HP+5THP)

For the purposes of describing Actions, the wolves will be labeled #1, #2, and 3# from top to bottom of the last map posted. I'll adjust the Roll20 map accordingly for next post.

Osvaldo carefully moves closer to the wolves (making sure to be just beyond their range), knocks another arrow, and let's loose.
OOC:
given the proximity and the fact they're chained, would advantage make sense on this attack roll?
OOC:
*undamaged with 12HP+5THP

With the new distraction of the strangers, Bug saw this as his chance. As soon as the wolves turn towards the attackers, he darts forward and grabs the bag laying on the ground. Once in hand, he moves back out of reach of the wolves' chains to sling it on his back and draw a weapon.

OOC:
@ctme2000: Yeah I'd say Advantage would be appropriate, I can make your other roll for you. And you're correct on your HP totals.
Osvalso's Arrow misses again, but Severus storms in and brings his great axe down with both hands, striking the wolf between the shoulder blades and cleaving clean through it. It collapses and the other two wolves take advantage of finally having some prey withing grabbing distance.

As bug takes advantage of the distraction to grab his gear, the remaining wolves attack severus. The first wolf snaps and misses, its jaws closing on air. The second wolf bites and grabs a mouthful of Severus's armor but fails to find flesh.

OOC:
I would say that now that combat has begun, with the wolves engaged in melee with Severus, Osvaldo wouldn't have Advantage anymore, but it doesn't matter because his first roll hits.
Osvaldo's second shot is devastating, driving the arrow right through the wolf's chest as it snaps at Severus. It barks a final yelp before collapsing dead.

Severus meanwhile swings his Greataxe at the final wolf and drive the blade into the side of the wolf. It falls back a moment before getting ready to lunge at the barbarian.
OOC:

Severus steps sidewise to let Osvaldo’s arrow find its target. Once more the great axe is swung high ready to fall upon the final wolf.

Severus will ready an attack should the wolf still be standing after Osvaldo’s attack

OOC:
Hold up, we're still waiting for "Bug" to take his action this round.
Oct 9, 2020 11:32 am
With the attention of the wolves away from him, Bug took the opportunity to draw a set of matched dagger now within reach of his freshly acquired bag. Lunging from a low crouch, he attempts to drive both points into the side of the remaining wolf.

Osvaldo and Severus prepare to attack the wolf again, but before they can, Yewin steps forward with a dagger in each hand and dispatches the final beast. It too falls with a Yelp, and the three are left standing awkwardly inside this cave room with three dead wolves before them.
Oct 9, 2020 9:02 pm
Osvaldo looks at the stranger, his bow now aimed at him instead, "We appreciate the assist, but who are you? How did you get here?"
