Part 1: Goblin Arrows

Osvaldo will be ready to assist Severus if need be.
Dec 14, 2020 5:23 pm
As soon as Bug's foot leaves the ground, he feels the slip and knows he didn't get enough purchase to be able to make it to the other side. In the air he throws both hands forward in a desperate attempt to find something solid to keep from being washed away.

Rolls

Athletics - (1d20-1)

(5) - 1 = 4

Bug reaches for purchase and just as his fingers grasp a stone the rushing water hits him like a four-horse wagon. The stone is torn from his shaky grasp and he goes ass-over-teakettle as Severus and Osvaldo watch him swept away to the passage below.

For probably a half-dozen seconds, that seem like a half-dozen terrible minutes, bug can't tell up from down and feel like he's being pulled apart from every direction while at he same time being pummeled from every angle. What air he had in his lungs is torn from it and he begins to panic knowing there's nowhere to swim up for more. Then suddenly a bright light fills the foamy white water, and solid ground scrapes and grinds under his back. The water level recedes and he finally has air again. When he opens his eyes and regains his bearings, he finds himself laying like a waterlogged rat, sprawled out on the floodplain at the foot of the cave's entrance, bones and muscles sore and achy from being dashed about the cave's floor and walls, but otherwise alive.

Osvaldo hears Bug shout as he loses his grip and gets carried down the tunnel. "Severus, are you able to see him, is he alive?"
Dec 17, 2020 8:29 pm
"I can't see him, Osvaldo. But, if he's dead his story is over, and if he lives he's been swept away from danger. We, on the other hand, are being hunted. Let's travel deeper into this cave. If we survive, we can go back and help Bug if he needs it"

Osvaldo mulls over Severus's words for several seconds. "You're right. Let's get a move on.". He proceeds further into the cave.

OOC:
Just for clarification on my part, are you pressing further on into the chamber you ducked into to escape the rushing water (Option 1), or are you pressing further up the chamber that you were moving through when the goblin on the bridge spotted you (Option 2)?

After tumbling and scraping his way to a stop, Bug takes a moment to recollect himself. Standing up, he quickly pats himself over checking that didn't lose any gear and takes a moment to look around to see if the recent commotion has attracted anymore attention in the area. He then starts into a quiet run to re-enter the cave.

Severus and Osvaldo decide to press forward into the cave they ducked into to avoid the rushing waters, thinking bug will probably return after he's sorted himself out a bit. Sure enough they hear the gnome's footsteps splashing towards them. The little rogue had intended to run back and catch up as quickly as possible, but the washed out cave mouth now makes stealth and running incompatible. As bug arrives at the side tunnel he's failed to jump to he sees the light of his new companions' torches ahead, and catches up with them just as they reach an intersection.

To the right, it appears the tunnels continues upward and on until to likely intersects with the bridge the goblin was guarding when he gave the alarm to release the water. The left is more concerning, for here they find a large cave chamber.

Quote:
This large cave is divided in half by a ten-foot-high escarpment. A steep natural staircase on the far east end leads from the lower portion to the upper ledge. The air is hazy with the smoke of a cooking fire, and pungent from the smell of poorly cured hides and unwashed goblins.
Having heard the rushing water and seeing the approaching light of the human's torches, five armed goblins stand glaring at the party.

Severus draws his Great Axe and lunges towards the goblins (#1) in a barbarian rage.

Severus rushes in to attack, but his swing misses as the goblin dodges the attack handily. When he enters the chamber though, he sees a sixth goblin, brawnier than the others eating a hunk of meat. Next to the goblin is a man in armor.
He appears to be in his late forties or early fifties, but it's hard to be sure as his face is a mess. He's been severely beaten and is bound and gagged.

Osvaldo shoots his bow at another goblin hitting it in the stomach, and he gives a grunt before looking up in fury at the ranger.

The sixth goblin, positioned on the escarpment above barks a series of orders and the goblins rush Severus and Osvaldo. Goblins 1, 3 and 4 all slash at Severus with their scimitars.
Two of the goblins attacks hit through Severus's armor doing a total of 14 Damage, and Severus falls to the ground.

Goblins 2 and 5 rush past Severus and attack Osvaldo with theirs, but neither succeed in hitting the ranger in melee combat.

Rage grants resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, slashing damage, and so the damage Severus sustained is halved. Severus now has 7 of 14 hp remaining

Cursing himself for being washed away, Bug hurries to catch up with the others. Arriving just in time to see the goblins, Bug forgets his waterlogged boots as instincts kick in. Dashing up behind his companions, he draws both daggers and pounces low and from the side of Osvaldo in an attempt to get in some deadly blows before they goblins realize another has joined the fight.

Hope you all had a good Christmas or any other holidays you celebrate!
Bug dashes up next to Osvaldo and drives his daggers at the goblin before him. His offhand attack misses, but no matter, for his sneak attack with his main dagger pierces the goblin's chest and it falls to the ground in a pile.
OOC:
Round 1 ends, and Round 2 begins. Turn order starts over and is as follows:

2. Osvaldo
3. Goblins
4. Bug

Imgur is down at the moment, but no matter. The map below is accurate with the following exceptions:
1. Bug is located on J6.
2. The goblin on I6 is dead.

I could have handles this better, folks. E.g. grab the javelin from the fallen Goblin, attack at range to reduce the challenge. I apologise. Wish me luck
Frothing at the mouth with anger at missing the Goblin (#1) with his axe, and at the blood that now flowed from him, Serverus once again swings his Great Axe at the heads of his assailants.
OOC:
Severus is raging, so gets +2 to damage with melee weapon, thus 1d12+5 rather than +3

For a moment, Severus has a vision of his axe cutting nothing but air. In that moment, something inspires the barbarian to influence the axe's arc of attack. Without thought, Severus' muscles and his body's attitude respond to the instinct and.....
