OOC:
2d8 damage for 1st level! Wow. I'm going to cast Hunters Mark as a bonus action on Klarg (extra d6 damage, advantage on perception and survival on the target.
Osvaldo sees Severus goes down with a brutal hit. He needs to get Klarg down quick. He says a prayer to his deity to strike Klarg down, and looses an arrow at the bugbear.

Osvaldo's arrow slams directly into Klargs right side and sinks and the bugbear responds with a mix of grunt and wet gurgle and staggers, blood and red foam almost immediately spilling forth in a frothy foam from his mouth and nose. He staggers, and rights himself, but it doesn't take a genius to observe that the leader of the Cragmaw Hideout goblins is on the brink of death.
OOC:
Round 3 continues! Turn order is as follows:
1. Severus (21)
2. Klarg (18)
3. Osvaldo (16)
--> 4. Bug (15)

Seeing an opportunity as Klarg stumbles, Bug rushes over the body of a dead goblin. He knows the wolf will be a problem as well, but his full attention is on ending the leader as quickly as possible for now.

For some reason it didn't add my main hand attack roll, not quite sure what happened there.

Rolls

Main hand attack - (1d20+5)

(1) + 5 = 6

Bug rushes over and swings his daggers at the Bugbear. The first one misses by a country mile. The second one misses by a mere whisker. Klarg turns and snarls a command in goblin and Ripper lunges for Bug.
Ripper's jaws clamp down on Bug's left forearm and the gnome feels the teeth sink in, and the wold begins thrashing and tugging to try and bring Bug to the ground.
OOC:
Bug takes 4HP damage, and has 3 remaining. Also, I need Bug to give me a Strength saving throw to avoid being knocked prone.

Round 3 continues! Turn order is as follows:
1. Severus (21)
2. Klarg (18)
3. Osvaldo (16)
4. Bug (15)
5. Ripper (14)
-->6. Alstaer (13)

Rolls

Wolf Attack roll (Advantage), Damage roll - (1d20+4, 1d20+4, 2d4+2)

1d20+4 : (6) + 4 = 10

1d20+4 : (9) + 4 = 13

2d4+2 : (11) + 2 = 4

Alstaer, having seen how deadly Klarg can be, knows that it’s absolutely key to strike at him before he gets another chance to inflict punishment. He summons another fire bolt with the hope that it can finish him off.
OOC:
I’ll use my inspiration to attack with advantage

Fire bolt Vs Klarg - (1d20+5)

(4) + 5 = 9

Advantage - (1d20+5)

(13) + 5 = 18

Damage - (1d10)

(6) = 6

OOC:
Excellent expenditure of your Inspiration Point.
Alstaer, so slow to learn how to control the trajectory of his Fire Bolt spell for so long, notices that recently the magics have been finding their mark at key moments, and as his latest bolt hurls across the cave, strikes the bugbear in the face, and instantly brings the monster to it's knees, his companions are back in this fight and may yet have a chance of surviving long enough to escape with Sildar in tow. Only Ripper the wolf remains, and it backs a step or two back uncertain of it's own odds before responding to the party with a resolute snarl.
OOC:
Round 3 ends; Round 4 begins. Turn order is as follows:
-->1. Severus (21)
2. Klarg (18)
3. Osvaldo (16)

death save roll

Rolls

death save - (1d20)

(20) = 20

OOC:
Very nice roll for Severus!
Severus opens his eyes and finds himself lying face down on hard stone. In his confusion he thinks for a moment that he's witnessing the corona effect of a solar eclipse, rays of light emanating from a blackened central orb, but as his eyes focus he realizes that he's looking at fingers of flame cooking the blackened skull of some man or man-like creature lying beside him. The're seems to be a commotion going on around him: muffled shouting, the confusion of some low snarl or growling of some kind. But he has no idea where he's at or why he's there, and so he puts has palms to the stone beneath him and begins pushing himself to his feet.
OOC:
With a Nat-20, Severus regains consciousness and regains 1HP, but cannot act this turn while he shakes the cobwebs out.

Round 4 continues, with turn order is as follows:
1. Severus (21)
--> 2. Osvaldo (16)
3. Bug (15)
4. Ripper (14)
5. Alstaer (13)

Strength saving throw

Rolls

Strength saving throw - (1d20-1)

(7) - 1 = 6

Apr 5, 2021 3:06 pm
Osvaldo breaths a small sigh of relief as he sees Klarg go down and Severus start to get up. He says another quick prayer to Silvanus and fires at the wolf
OOC:
Using my last Hunter's Mark of the day

Rolls

Longbow attack - (1d20+5)

(3) + 5 = 8

Arrow damage - (1d8+3)

(8) + 3 = 11

Hunter's Mark damage - (1d6)

(4) = 4

As Osvaldo lets loose his arrow, the wolf gives another hard tug on Bug's arm and pulls him down to the stone floor, causing the arrow to fly just over Ripper's head and clatter on the stone wall behind it.
OOC:
Round 4 continues, with turn order is as follows:
1. Severus (21)
2. Osvaldo (16)
-->3. Bug (15)
4. Ripper (14)
5. Alstaer (13)

It is Bug's turn, but failing the Strength saving roll, the wolf has pulled him to the floor and he is now prone. He has Disadvantage when using Melee Attacks. He needs something big here because Ripper goes next and has Advantage against a prone opponent.

OOC:
He’s not grappled right? He could still use half his movement to stand back up?
Apr 6, 2021 4:04 pm
Sassafras says:
OOC:
He’s not grappled right? He could still use half his movement to stand back up?
OOC:
Yeah, actually. I was of the assumption that the wolf's attack was based on a grapple that drags you to the ground, but upon further research, it merely "knocks" you to the ground. Pretty stupid in my opinion, since wolves LITERALLY drag their prey to the ground and hold them there for the rest of the pack to tear into, but I guess D&D doesn't really know wolf stuff.

Technically, these D&D wolves are a bunch of bums, and Bug is merely knocked prone but not held there in a cool wolf-grapple.

Between the pain from the wolf's teeth and the ground coming up to meet him, the panic Bug is feeling starts to show across his face. He scrambles up to his feet in the moment the wolf is preparing another attack, eyes never leaving the wolf, and hold his dagger up in a defensive crouch to ready himself for whatever comes next.
OOC:
Bug will use part of his movement to stand up but stay in the same square he is in and then will take the dodge action, hoping to weather this next round of attacks.
Apr 7, 2021 3:53 pm
Bug stands up after the attack from ripper and braces himself for the next assault, and Ripper happily obliges the gnome...
OOC:
Oh man... It was a decent gamble to make, but the dice favored the wolf.
Ripper lunges and barrels into Bug, and closes it's jaws around the little rogue's throat. As the light in the cave wanes and disappears into a tiny pinprick in Bug's vision, he feels the pain of the animal's teeth and jaws closing even further on his neck, warm blood running into hos collar and down his back...
OOC:
Bug will have to make his first Death saving roll on his next turn.

Meanwhile, round 4 continues, with turn order is as follows:
1. Severus (21)
2. Osvaldo (16)
3. Bug (15)
4. Ripper (14)
--> 5. Alstaer (13)

Rolls

Wolf Attack roll (Disdvantage), Damage roll - (1d20+4, 1d20+4, 2d4+2)

1d20+4 : (13) + 4 = 17

1d20+4 : (17) + 4 = 21

2d4+2 : (33) + 2 = 8

Apr 7, 2021 5:17 pm
OOC:
Yeah, I was in a tough spot. I definitely didn't think I could kill it in one round, so that seemed like my best bet. Now we'll just how lucky I get with Death Saves...

Alstaer, feeling his panic start to truly kick in again as Bug drops, stutteringly produces another fire bolt

Rolls

Fire bolt Vs Ripper - (1d20+5)

(15) + 5 = 20

Damage - (1d10)

(2) = 2

Apr 9, 2021 1:06 am
Another Fire Bolt erupts from the sorcerer's hands and strikes the wolf glancing off the animal's flank, singeing the beast's fur and leaving a raw looking patch of skin underneath exposed.
OOC:
Round 4 ends; Round 5 begins! Turn order is as follows:
-->1. Severus (21)
2. Osvaldo (16)
3. Bug (15)
4. Ripper (14)
5. Alstaer (13)

Severus finally shakes off the cobwebs from the hit in his skull to see only Klarg's wolf remaining to put up a fight.
