Return from Olaj

Moving slowly through the underbrush Tayleron circles around to approach whatever is moving in the brush while Thuron covers from the opposing side. Once in position the ranger creeps forward before coming to a stop as he discovers the source. A green scaled Kobold lies on its back, eyes closed, open wounds bleeding into the ground.
OOC:
Tayleron: While Mask of the Wild allows you to Hide in terrain that would otherwise not provide enough cover to remain hidden, you'd still need to make a Stealth check in order to Hide. Natural Explorer doesn't really give you any benefit as far as Stealth is concerned in this situation as far as I can tell (unless I'm missing something). Either way, in this situation, any roll would have worked.

Everyone: Generally if any of your characters are going to attempt to hide, give me a Stealth check; if you're taking a general look around your area, give me a Perception check. Just feel free to add what you think may be appropriate for the situation, worst case is that I'll ignore if I don't think it's necessary.

I nod almost imperceptibly and provide a knowing wink to Tayleron before he departs to scout the area. I prepare a magic missile spell.

Rolls

Perception (+2 proficiency) - (1d20+2)

(17) + 2 = 19

Apr 15, 2016 8:07 pm
Martel acknowledges his assignment and begins to head towards the cloth trusting that Morris has him covered in case it's a trap. Stealth isn't his strong suit but he does his best to move quietly and quickly to his target.

Rolls

Stealth at disadvantage with armor - (1d20+2)

(1) + 2 = 3

Stealth at disadvantage with armor - (1d20+2)

(7) + 2 = 9

With all of the grace of a drunken giraffe Martel moves towards cloth. Hung up in the brush are three perfumed cloth covers and there is little doubt that they are the work of Pap. Upon closer inspection you notice puncture holes in all three, as if someone had been prodding at them with a weapon or tool. Once of the cloths also has speckles of blood on it, just about where one's mouth would be located while worn.
Apr 16, 2016 4:22 pm
Morris follows behind Martel, trying to be as quiet as he can. Big folk make a lot of noise in the woods, but they also don't see or a hear a lot either.
OOC:
I'm not sure if Naturally Stealthy (pg 28 PHB) will come into play here, as I'm specifically hiding, but rather attempting to move stealthy like

Rolls

Stealth 1d20+2 - (1D20+2)

(2) + 2 = 4

Apr 16, 2016 7:11 pm
Morris follows in behind the fighter, his feet snapping every twig and dry leaf along the path, but the noise doesn't appear to draw any unwanted attention to the group.
OOC:
Naturally Stealthy would allow you to use the bigger Martel as cover to hide as your moving (I mean, not with THAT roll, but...) :-)

The Situation:
Morris and Martel are by the cloths, which have been given a quick inspection by the pair, but remain hung up in some brush.

Tayleron is about three or four feet from the wounded Kobold, while Thuron is covering from the opposite direction, roughly thirty feet away. Thuron hasn't seen any movement from the beast since Tayleron started his approach.

Martel will whisper to Morris.

Who from the village was out this far besides us? Pap didn't mention another group ahead of us.

To himself he thinks Could a raid have happened since we left?

Martel will look around the area trying to spot tracks or signs of a struggle. Hoping to determine how the cloth got here.
OOC:
oops subtract two, I added proficiency twice forgot the sheet adds it for me

Rolls

Perception check(proficient) - (1d20+5)

(20) + 5 = 25

Seeing that Tayleron has reached the area of concern with no sign of conflict, I begin making my way toward him.

Rolls

Stealth (+2 dex) - (1d20+2)

(7) + 2 = 9

Martel: There are no signs of a struggle in or around the brush that the cloths are hung in, although there does appear to be small humanoid footprints jumbled about the ground around the brush.

Thuron: You approach the Kobold with little problem and you're greeted with the same sight as Tayleron before. A green scaled kobold, with wounds which have bled into the ground.

Making exaggerated signs of stealthy walking, I'm going to press further into the bush, pretending that I have maintained my natural and nearly mystical levels of stealth this whole time. I want to see if there are any tracks that I can recognize in a spiral moving away from the cloth.

Rolls

Nature (+2 INT) - (1d20+2)

(15) + 2 = 17

Morris is fairly certain that the tracks by the brush are those of Kobolds but the large number of imprints makes it hard to determine the number of the direction they may have come from.
OOC:
Just to be clear, Morris might conclude that this is all from one Kobold who had spent a lot of time around the brushes, or not. It isn't clear to him.

Morris, trying not to think about the parable of the snake and the fox, looks to see if the kobold can be patched up. Maybe he has more he can tell us.
OOC:
Trying to learn more about the wounds, and stabilize the kobold if I can.

Rolls

Medicine (+4 WIS) - (1d20+4)

(18) + 4 = 22

Apr 20, 2016 6:44 pm
The Kobold appears quite dead. I'll search the body for any clues or valuables.

Rolls

Investigation check (+3 Intelligence) - (1d20+3)

(14) + 3 = 17

As Morris takes a moment to look over the Kobold it becomes quite obvious that there's nothing that can be done to help the ugly little creature. He hasn't been dead long, but he's not coming back. It's also obvious he was stabbed many, many times. Whoever did this really wanted this thing dead.

The kobold is wearing bits and pieces of old leather armor that were clearly made for something other than a kobold. The loose fitting hide probably more of hindrance to movement than of any real benefit. A very crude spear lays at his side and upon closer inspection Thuron finds the tip stained with a blood and a few red kobold scales on the ground.

Martel looks around for Morris and realizes he has headed over to the rest of the group. So he grabs the cloth and heads towards the others to see what they've found.

OOC:
The Situation:
With cloths in hand Martel has joined the others around the dead kobold.
Tayleron has found some tracks that he could easily follow, but it would take the group off on a tangent (I'm not trying to steer the group away from that option, just pointing out facts).
From the evidence found around the kobold it would appear that he was killed by some of his own kind.
The cloths are almost identical in smell and size as to those Pap had given each of you when you returned to Falu.

"It seems to me that these kobolds took advantage of the town's bad fortune at the very least. I hate to think that this ill-fitting armor might belong to some still suffering townsperson or persons. Still, the whole town, and indeed the broader community will be at grave risk if we delay too long. There are times when a few trees must be allowed to fall so that the forest remains safe." Morris looks around for a few small rocks to mark the tracks leading toward the possible perpetrators of the kobold's murder. He doesn't move to go further down the trail they were originally following. Instead he looks around at his travel mates to see what they think.
Apr 21, 2016 3:59 am
"The cloth concerns me, only a few people were healthy and wearing them. For these kobolds to have them it had to have happened recently." Martel sighs "I'll follow whatever the consensus is but my gut says we should investigate the kobolds.
