Return from Olaj

The Village of Falu, your home, is fairly insignificant as villages go. Found in the open plains of the Kingdom of Kelet the isolated village is home to about thirty people who up until very recently survived via trade with some of the other nearby villages. Kelet’s war with the Nyugatran Kingdom, however, has changed all of that as most of the nearby villages have either been plundered or simply abandoned as troops from both sides engage in open hostilities.

Pap the Wise, the de facto leader of Falu, has held the village together through the recent hardships. His herbal concoctions have staved off malnutrition and kept the villagers in relatively good health while his connections throughout this region of the kingdom have kept some supplies coming in. Of course these supplies don’t come to Falu on their own; it’s up to some of the stronger and more adventurous villagers to travel and retrieve them.
It's been a long trip. On the road for nearly two tendays your visit to the friendly people of Olaj was most productive. Having quickly procured the needed supplies for the upcoming winter you had all looked forward to a quick return to your home. But trips over uncivilized and war torn lands rarely go as plan and after a few encounters with some local soldiers, more than a couple drunken kobolds, and the loss of your cart mule you're just happy to be returning at all.
A good seven days behind schedule you break camp for what should be the last time. Cart packed and with each of you in your assigned positions the four of you work together to push the cart on the final stretch home. It’s not easy work but with the loss of the mule four days past there hasn’t really any other option. Slow going and very tiring you’ve at least been blessed by the lack of any run ins with the local wildlife or roaming soldiers that had plagued you earlier on the return trip.

A rough couple of hours later your spirits start to lift as you can see the Csalad family farm in the distance. You’re long trip is just about at an end. It isn’t long before you reach the small farm and a familiar face rushes towards you. Evelin Csalad, the eldest daughter of the family runs out, waving her arms over her head. "STOP!!" she yells through what appears to be a piece of cloth wrapped around the lower part of her face. "I’LL COME TO YOU!"

She slowly approaches and when she’s about thirty feet away she tosses what appears to be clothing to the ground and slowly backs away. "PUT THOSE ON BEFORE COMING INTO TOWN!"
Apr 3, 2016 7:22 pm
Morris looks the young woman over for signs of sickness, then picks up the cloth. He sniffs the cloth and then wraps it around his face.

"An' what's a'goin on here Miss Evelin? Sickness, Plague? I sorely hope not, my bones ache and my back is near to foldin' from the load here on the cart."

Pap probably has some work for the willing if a sickness is spreading.

Thuron I thought I was the paranoid one. Let us hear Miss Csalads reply to Morris before we take issue with her help.

Martel picks up the remaining two pieces of cloth and he waits for the young woman or Thuron to respond.
Apr 4, 2016 9:43 pm
The one thing that you all immediately notice when you approach Evelin's offering is the strong flowery odor emanating from the cloth, almost as if it had been dipped in perfume. Evelin points to her wrap, "The only thing keeping the few of us that are well from getting sick. Pap made them up special and those of us wearing them are still standing."

She pauses and motions to her wrap one more time as a not so subtle suggestion to those who haven't grabbed theirs.

"Mother and father are bedridden" she says with a slight quiver in her voice. "Just as everyone but four of us. Whatever it is hit about six days ago and it hit quick, your lateness in returning probably saved you."

As far as any of you can tell it's the same old Evelin. A little rundown, for sure, but that's not to be unexpected. If she's one of only four people still well in the village you can be sure Pap has her running about helping where ever she can.

"Pap's gonna want to see you. It'll be nice to finally split up some of the chores.."
OOC:
Morris: Evelin appears to be in good health.
Apr 4, 2016 11:13 pm
Thuron nods, stashes his daggers, dons his mask, and with a word of thanks to Evelin, returns to his station at the cart.
Apr 5, 2016 2:36 am
Martel ties the cloth around his face.

"Well our string of bad luck may have had a purpose. Some God may have been trying to save us, but they certainly had their fun doing it... Damned missing mule Martel grumbles this last part as he takes up his position with the cart.
Apr 5, 2016 10:02 am
"There, ah, there isn't any chance you've got something warm to drink. Preferably spirited. I hope you father won't mind if we wash a bit before coming into the house. Even for one of my kind my feet are filthy."

Morris looks back to his traveling partners and says in a quiet voice, "She seems to be fine. Pap's concoction must be protecting her form whatever is going around. I have a bad feeling about this. On the other hand," Morris lowers his face to the ground a bit, "at least the food and supplies will last a little longer if what I fear has happened here has happened."

Morris screws his ugly cleft lipped face into a smile, "Well my dear, would that be alright? Lead us to some water where we can clean up a bit, then we'll gladly listen to Pap over some hot drink!"
Apr 5, 2016 3:40 pm
I glance over at Morris while tying the cloth around my face.
"You'll be waiting a bit more friend Morris. Pap be in the village center if I'm not missing me guess. 'Sides the Csalads be in no fit state to entertain being bedridden. Come and lend your shoulder to the cart. The mule may have run off but we have these fine substitute asses."

With that last remark I take my place and prepare to push the cart once more.
Apr 5, 2016 4:42 pm
"Hot drink!!" Evelin retorts with a laugh. "Water from the well for those of us that are able bodied and some of Pap's remedies for those that ain't."

You follow the eldest Csalad child past the family farm as she continues to give you details about the past six days. "Sickness hit the Rolavs first, the whole family is down. Vargas packed up some gear and just left, not sure I can blame them after seeing their neighbors succumb to illness so quickly. Haven't heard a peep from any of 'em since"

Your trip to the center of Falu is a thankfully quick one and as you bring the cart alongside Pap's residence Evelin excuses herself. "I need to check on my family and then on the Rolavs. Weird this illness, no one seems to be getting any better, but no one's getting worse either..."

You can all hear Pap through the thin walls of his home busily working on something and occasionally stopping to curse frustratedly under his breath. The Csalad, Vargas, Rolav, and Mendel family residences are within view of this location as well but other than Evelin (and Pap's cursing) you haven't seen or heard any signs of life.
OOC:
Feel free to investigate, talk to Pap, ask Evelin a parting question, return to your own residence (for whatever purpose), fight with each other, or whatever....
Apr 5, 2016 11:34 pm
"Alright then. I suppose the comforts of home can wait a while longer then. Evelin, would it be alright for me to help you tend to your parents with you. I might be able to help a little." Morris looks over to his companions to see if any of them mind. He picks free a small sliver of the cart where the wood has gotten particularly dry.

"At least I might be able to learn a bit more about the illness. Can you tell me more about when it started? Were there fevers, spots? Did the sick all come down with it at once, or did it start with one family or a visitor out of town? Any strange animals or plants brought into town that you know of?"

Morris takes a breath. "I'm sorry, I know you have a lot on your shoulders now. If you'll let me go with you to help your Ma and Da maybe you can get a bit of rest."

I'd like to go with her to her family home, use medicine as before to see what I can discern about the disease from her parents.

That's a fine plan Morris. I'm sure Miss Csalad will appreciate the help. I'll report to Pap and see what jobs he has, then come to help you. I may not be much good trying to puzzle out this illness, but I can do the simple chores that need done. Martel starts towards Paps door then stops.

You say Vargas left just after the sickness struck and no word since? Martel looks contemplative Perhaps we should ... Follow up with them and make sure they came out alright. He then knocks on Paps door and waits with Tayleron for an answer.

Morris:

Trying to keep up with your questions as you follow her back to her family's home, Evelin tells you everything that she can think of concerning the mysterious illness. "Rolav family was the first to get sick and from there it spread throughout the whole village within a day. Pap says he ain't never seen anything like it. No spots, no fever, no coughing, just folks too weak to move around." She stops for a slight instance as she tries to remember anything else that may be of use. "That's about it, nothing strange about the day at all... Other than the Vargases packing up and leaving."

Entering the family's small home you find the other three members of the Csalad family lying in their beds. The father, a slender man named Vilmos, sees you enter the home and a slight smile crosses his face. "Morris. We're glad you're back. Are the others here as well?" He struggles to lift his head to take a quick look for the others before giving up. "You need to rest, Father. Don't worry, the others are back as well" Evelin says as she moves besides her father's bed and gingerly helps him take some of Pap's herbal medicine.

Tayleron, Martel, and Thuron:

The knock on Pap's door is answered with a weary, "Let yourself in, Girl, I'm almost ready with the Rolav's treatment." Entering the dwelling the three of you see a familiar sight. Pap working at his table, herbs of every type imaginable in little jars spread out in a seemingly random pattern, some sort of brew boiling over a small magical fire, and books cracked open to various pages thrown about the room.

Turning to greet the person he believes to be Evelin the old man lets out a startled gasp of surprise when he sees the three of you standing before him. His eyes dart as he looks over the party trying to spot which one of you the halfling might be hiding behind. "At least tell me you got something good in trade for him!" and after a slight pause to gauge your reaction he bursts out in laughter.

"I see you've got your wraps, good, good." he says, taking a seat, as he motions toward the cloth wrapped around his face. The three of you discuss what you've already learned from Evelin about the disease and he has very little to add. "I feel like a damned fool not being able to protect the village, but I think I've finally found something that might help." He slowly gets out of his chair and down onto all fours as he rummages through some of his books.

"Here! The Noveny weed!" he holds up one of his books and points to a picture much to small for any of you to see. "This weed may just be Falu's salvation!" Working himself back into his seat he explains the properties of the Noveny and why he thinks it will cure whatever it is that has befallen your village. "Unfortunately the only location anywhere close where this might be found is the Balrangs"

You've all heard of the Balrang Caves before. Roughly 10 miles due east through the Fak Woods, not a trip any ordinary villager would dare make.

Leaning back in his chair he sits silently for a moment before looking directly at the three of you in turn, "I know it's a lot to ask, but I fear that this weed is our village's only hope."
OOC:
At this point feel free to ask Pap any specific questions you might have or take any actions.
Apr 6, 2016 10:46 pm
Hmm, the caves is it? Mayhap that be the best bet for a cure. I'm curious, if the Rolav's were the first afflicted, in which direction did the sickness spread? Have you found the cause or any vector?

I reach over and look at the picture in the book. Noting any special characteristics of the plant and any care for its handling.

"No cause that I'm aware of, unfortunately." Pap says, slowly shaking his head. "Rolav's were the first and I've questioned them on their whereabouts, diet, and anything else I could think of at the time." He pauses for a moment and stares at the ceiling before adding "Before I knew it the whole village was sick, it wasn't as if it spread after the Rolav's became ill, it just sort of inflicted everyone else at the same time..."

You know that the Rolav's live on the far north of the village with the Vargas home located just a short distance from there.

The Noveny is unlike any weed that you've seen before but you're confident from the picture that you'd have no problem finding samples should you come across them. A hearty plant, a specimen stands roughly 8" tall, with thin needle like leaves running the entire length of the stem. Pap figures twenty or so of the plants will do the job.
Apr 7, 2016 5:12 am
Martel looks at the picture of the Noveny as Tayleron brings the book closer. He dedicates a few details to memory for the search later. He then tries to recall what he knows of the Fak Woods and the Balrang Caves before he asks any questions.

You're all familiar with the Fak Woods as it is the primary source of wood for the the village and lies about a mile to the east. With the exception of Tayleron, none of you have ventured too deeply into them, preferring to stay on the outskirts where things are a bit safer. The ranger has done a bit of scouting in the past and knows of the Kobold tribes that call the woods their home and of some of the more powerful creatures within.

The Balrang Caves, from what you've all heard, is a cave complex on the opposite side of the woods. Stories told would have you believe of great treasures deep within the complex and mortal danger all around.
Apr 7, 2016 2:49 pm
"Sir, the others are looking in on Pap, trying to see if they can be of any help. I'm ashamed to say that I could only think of my own hungry belly when we arrived. I had no idea how bad things are. They know that I'm here, so please let me help you as I can while I am. They'll coem back for me if they have any news or need of me."

Morris applies liberal amounts of elbow grease to any cooking, cleaning, or caring that needs doing. He'll make sure there's firewood ready in the house and fix a meal for the family with some of the supplies brought in on the cart if that's possible. If more than say a couple of hours goes by before he hears anything from his traveling companions he will excuse himself and head to where he thinks he'll find Pap. He will do this sooner if he is more than gently dismissed from the house.
OOC:
gah, sorry didn't actually mean to split the party.

Vilmos gives you a weak smile as you offer to help and struggles to explain "Pap's medicine is all we need for now..." but before he can finish Evelin jumps in. "Pap has been preparing a special brew for those that are ill to drink. Keeping everyone stable until he can find a fix for this mess. He says it doesn't mix well with proper food."

"Not even hungry." Vilmos silently adds.

Evelin carefully administers the medicine to the other members of her family as you watch on while wiping some of the dust that settled on things the last few days. The home is in remarkably good order, a testament to Evelin's hard work.

"Well, Morris. Shall we check on the Rolav's?"
Apr 7, 2016 3:48 pm
Morris departs and heads for Rolav's.
Apr 7, 2016 5:09 pm
Thuron addresses his party. "It seems our respite is to be short-lived. Let us gather our thirsty friend and make plans to depart on the morrow. Tayleron, would you be willing to guide us through Fak woods to Balrang caves and, with hope, a cure for our village?"
Last edited April 7, 2016 5:09 pm

"Aye, Thuron, I can guide us all through the woods. As long as the tribes haven't moved or been raiding it shouldn't be a problem. It's the other beasts that have me worried. But 10 miles into Fak woods shouldn't be too bad. Once at the caves though I'll be out of my element."
I turn toward Pap"You can give me the medicine for the Rolav's. I pass their house as I head home. "
With that I nod to everyone. " Let us meet here at daybreak. We will leave once we have all gathered here. Oh and if any of you should see Morris please inform him of what we planned."
Apr 8, 2016 12:11 am
"Yes, yes, of course." Pap responds as he gives you a full wineskin of medicine for the Rolav's. "Just be sure each of them drinks at least half a glass. If they can handle more than let them as it will help them keep what little strength they have." As he starts to return to his cluttered desk he stops, "I'm glad that you've all returned. We may finally be able to cure our village."

As you head out the door you run into Morris and Evelin who were returning to retrieve the medication that you now hold. The three of you head over to the Rolav's and find the entire family in their beds. The four children in the front room all smile as you walk in and take their share of the medicine when offered. Their mother, Anya, struggles with her dosage, but with Evelin's help manages to get just over half a glass down. The father, Apu, is in a deep sleep.

"We'll let him rest for now" Evelin says to Anya. I'll be back in an hour to wake him if he's still asleep.

Thuron returns to his small stone cottage, lights a fire, and sets a kettle for tea. He takes inventory of his pouches, and has a modest meal of hard bread, dried meat, cheese. He copies his spells into a spare spell book for safe keeping and stashes it in the usual hiding place. He studies his mystical tome, and meditates with his crystal focus until he retires for the evening. Come morning, he packs for their journey, and makes his way to the town center near Pap's home. He is first to arrive.

I return to Pap's cottage.
The Rolav children are fairing well. The mother is stable. I fear the father is not so good. You may want to check in on him. I will be by before dawn with some game for you.

I then go to my small home. A shack is a better description as I seldom use it. I clean and care for my weapons and armor. Then set in to meditate. After fours hours I rise and head out to the fields to hunt for small game. After a few hours I head to Pap's cottage again. I knock lightly and await an answer.

Morris wanders out to the last place he'd built a lean-to, just at the brambly edge of the village. It's collapsed now, as it was supposed to do. He begins to put together a simple set up for cooking and sleeping. Thoughts of his old master drift into his head. With no wine to dull the memory of the water he finds himself unable to concentrate. He still wonders what he did so wrong.

"Well, no use getting lost in that now. Food, water, these things will keep you alive, not bad memories."

Morris will scout around for wild foodstuffs, components for his spells, and generally try and keep his fingers busy. When it gets a little later and darker than he meant to let it, he'll go to his shelter, set a fire and fall into his lean to for the night. In the morning he'll get himself ready and head into the center of town to look for everyone else.

Martel heads back to his small cabin to prepare for the next journey. As he approaches he allows a small smile for the handiwork he has put into the place. It disappears as he looks at the empty stall built off one side. It'll take some time before he earns enough to purchase a mount.

He spends the evening going through his old cavalry drills before heading inside to clean and care for his equipment. He badly wants a drink of ale but his superstition stops him from drinking on a night before a mission. He has seen how that can go wrong.

He wakes up the next morning, does one final check of his equipment then heads out to meet the others.

The four of you gather outside of Pap’s place as Tayleron gently knocks. After a brief shuffle the door slowly opens outward revealing a very tired looking old man. "Morning already, is it?" Pap says, slowly rubbing the back of his head, "I guess it’s time to start yet another very long day" he says with a sigh. Closing the door behind him Pap walks out to join the group and notices the game Tayleron has brought. "Ah!! Excellent. It will be nice to have some real food for a change. Thank you, my friend"

He holds his right hand out in front of him and offers each of you a vial of red liquid. "If you should become wounded drink one of these. It should heal your wounds and allow you to continue" he explains. While you’ve all benefited from Pap’s herbal creations in one way or another in the past, this is the first time you’ve seen him with magical potions. Sensing a bit of surprise from the group he says, "A gift from an old friend. Use them wisely." After ensuring that the party has a good grasp on what they’ll be looking for and a reminder to remove your masks once into the woods, Pap says his final good byes and heads back into his home.

The Balrang Caves is a good eight hour journey from Falu and you’re off to a good start. The trees of the Fak Woods form a very high canopy that let the light filter in providing more than enough daylight to see clearly. Your trip to this point has been through light underbrush occasionally broken by a small stream or rarely used trail. The occasional scattering of small animals the only excitement until Tayleron signals the party to stop and remain quiet.

Morris: Coming to a halt at Tayleron's signal you remain perfectly quiet and take in your surroundings. With your eyes closed you strain your hearing to pick up anything that might sound out of place but all your hear are the expected sounds of the woods. Opening your eyes you take deep breath and catch a familiar scent, a flowery, almost perfume like smell. A quick glance to your right reveals the source as you can see colored cloth in the distance about 20' away.

Martel: You scan the light brush which surrounds the group but nothing seems out of place. You look over to Morris and wonder why the halfling is standing with his eyes closed.

Tayleron: The four sets of tracks appear to be made by a grouping merely walking through the woods. Possibly a patrol as you can also detect the occasional circular imprints left by spears that at least a few of them were carrying. The tracks would be quite easy to follow, but they will lead you off of your chosen course.

Thuron: Off to your left you notice something in the brush moving periodically, maybe 30' away. After a bit all of the movement stops.

Hoping they get my meaning, I turn my attention to Thuron. Pointing to him I place my hand up in the stop signal. Then point at my eyes then in the direction he pointed. Pointing at myself I make a walking motion with my hand and sweep in a half circle to indicate behind what he saw.

Hoping that everyone knows what I would like them to do I deftly slip into the foliage and seem to disappear.

Everyone: Generally if any of your characters are going to attempt to hide, give me a Stealth check; if you're taking a general look around your area, give me a Perception check. Just feel free to add what you think may be appropriate for the situation, worst case is that I'll ignore if I don't think it's necessary.

With all of the grace of a drunken giraffe Martel moves towards cloth. Hung up in the brush are three perfumed cloth covers and there is little doubt that they are the work of Pap. Upon closer inspection you notice puncture holes in all three, as if someone had been prodding at them with a weapon or tool. Once of the cloths also has speckles of blood on it, just about where one's mouth would be located while worn.
Apr 16, 2016 4:22 pm
Morris follows behind Martel, trying to be as quiet as he can. Big folk make a lot of noise in the woods, but they also don't see or a hear a lot either.
OOC:
I'm not sure if Naturally Stealthy (pg 28 PHB) will come into play here, as I'm specifically hiding, but rather attempting to move stealthy like

Morris follows in behind the fighter, his feet snapping every twig and dry leaf along the path, but the noise doesn't appear to draw any unwanted attention to the group.
OOC:
Naturally Stealthy would allow you to use the bigger Martel as cover to hide as your moving (I mean, not with THAT roll, but...) :-)

The Situation:
Morris and Martel are by the cloths, which have been given a quick inspection by the pair, but remain hung up in some brush.

Tayleron is about three or four feet from the wounded Kobold, while Thuron is covering from the opposite direction, roughly thirty feet away. Thuron hasn't seen any movement from the beast since Tayleron started his approach.

Who from the village was out this far besides us? Pap didn't mention another group ahead of us.

Martel will look around the area trying to spot tracks or signs of a struggle. Hoping to determine how the cloth got here.

Morris is fairly certain that the tracks by the brush are those of Kobolds but the large number of imprints makes it hard to determine the number of the direction they may have come from.

Just to be clear, Morris might conclude that this is all from one Kobold who had spent a lot of time around the brushes, or not. It isn't clear to him.

As Morris takes a moment to look over the Kobold it becomes quite obvious that there's nothing that can be done to help the ugly little creature. He hasn't been dead long, but he's not coming back. It's also obvious he was stabbed many, many times. Whoever did this really wanted this thing dead.

The kobold is wearing bits and pieces of old leather armor that were clearly made for something other than a kobold. The loose fitting hide probably more of hindrance to movement than of any real benefit. A very crude spear lays at his side and upon closer inspection Thuron finds the tip stained with a blood and a few red kobold scales on the ground.
Apr 21, 2016 12:42 am
Martel looks around for Morris and realizes he has headed over to the rest of the group. So he grabs the cloth and heads towards the others to see what they've found.
Apr 21, 2016 1:43 am
OOC:
The Situation:
With cloths in hand Martel has joined the others around the dead kobold.
Tayleron has found some tracks that he could easily follow, but it would take the group off on a tangent (I'm not trying to steer the group away from that option, just pointing out facts).
From the evidence found around the kobold it would appear that he was killed by some of his own kind.
The cloths are almost identical in smell and size as to those Pap had given each of you when you returned to Falu.
Apr 21, 2016 1:49 am
"It seems to me that these kobolds took advantage of the town's bad fortune at the very least. I hate to think that this ill-fitting armor might belong to some still suffering townsperson or persons. Still, the whole town, and indeed the broader community will be at grave risk if we delay too long. There are times when a few trees must be allowed to fall so that the forest remains safe." Morris looks around for a few small rocks to mark the tracks leading toward the possible perpetrators of the kobold's murder. He doesn't move to go further down the trail they were originally following. Instead he looks around at his travel mates to see what they think.
Apr 21, 2016 3:59 am
"The cloth concerns me, only a few people were healthy and wearing them. For these kobolds to have them it had to have happened recently." Martel sighs "I'll follow whatever the consensus is but my gut says we should investigate the kobolds.

OOC:
BUMP! Ok, what ya boys going to do?
Apr 26, 2016 1:59 pm
Thuron speaks to the group. "It's curious these wraps are, as Pap didn't mention the Vargases had any when they left, nor did he say Kobolds were entering the village. I very much doubt the cloths came from the village. I believe the infliction to be deliberate, and the source may be close-at-hand. I feel our best course is to pursue our original intent and perhaps the source will reveal itself to us." Thuron looks to the group for consent.

"Well let's get to it, if we are heading on let's be quick about it. Sooner we finish this the sooner we can check on the village and be sure everyone is safe." Martel heads back to the path the group was on without waiting for a response. He keeps a hand on his warhammer and eyes peeled out over the woods, the kobolds have him on edge.
Apr 29, 2016 10:48 pm
After a search of the dead kobold reveals nothing of interest you decide that for the well being of Falu it's best to not to get pulled of your given task. Getting in line behind Tayleron the group continues on its way to the Balrang caves.

It isn't long before the woods start to grow a bit thicker, a bit darker, and a lot less inviting. The occasional scattering of small game that was common during the initial stages of your trip have been replaced by an almost erie silence. Once again the ranger silently brings the party to a halt and points out to his left.

As Tayleron retrieves the arrow from his quiver it catches on the lip just enough to throw off the Ranger's timing and the resulting shot flutters harmlessly through the air. The intended target, stunned at the weakness of the shot, begins to laugh just before a magical dart hammers him in the chest. The other two kobolds in Thuron's field of vision suffer from similar attacks, with the second target dropping to his knees before keeling over on the ground.

Shaking his head clear the first kobold (KB1) charges in at Tayleron with his dagger leading the way. Getting in nice and close the little creature takes a wild swing which the ranger is able to dodge as the blade nearly nicks his arm.

The third kobold (KB3) screams in pain as the magical dart has clearly done some major damage. Undeterred the red scaled animal manages to get off an expertly aimed shot which pings Thuron directly in the forehead, dazing the wizard. (Thuron takes 5HP of damage)

Thinking that he's in the clear Martel is surprised to hear a rush of sound from behind. Quickly turning he spots the charging kobold (KB4) before the creature can get off a good attack.

Tayleron's and Martel's attacks both miss as the little creatures prove elusively agile dodging both attacks with ease and quickly countering with attacks of their own. (Tayleron and Martel each take 3HP damage).

After easily dodging Martel's first attack the little kobold's luck runs cold as it catches the full force of the fighter's weapon. The little creature's lungs expel air as the hammer crashes through its ribs, sending the ugly thing sprawling on his back, dead before he hits the ground.

"Hullo!" A female dwarven voice calls from the woods, in a shockingly loud voice. A few branches crack as she pushes her way past some trees. When you see her, you notice that she is heavily armoured in chainmail, a shield held foreward, and a battleaxe holding a treelimb out of the way. A crossbow dangles from her back. A holy symbol hangs low on her chest.

"The sounds of ringing steel drew me. Are ye well? I dinnae fancy an axe lobbed at me face but me own axe is whetted."

Her voice is gruff and fierce, but her face belies concern and compassion.
May 9, 2016 8:13 am
Hearing a voice behind me, I pull my sword from the kobold and spin around. Still holding a Longbow in my left hand and a short sword in my right I confront the stranger." Who might ye be? If ye be a friend as that symbol would have me believe my friends be injured."
May 9, 2016 1:35 pm
Thuron stumbles back a step, lands on his ass, exhales sharply, and puts a hand on the wound in his side. "Not fatal, but enough to slow me down a bit. "I am Mogguth Barbedbraid, priest of Sylvanus." She raises her pendant to her lips and kisses it. It is a stylized oak leaf mounted in a study metal hoop, well polished. She holds the pendant toward Thuron, and beaches her god.

Martel remains silent through Mogguth's introduction. Her voice had startled him when she first arrived and he turned towards her quickly. But even with his heart still pounding from the fight he couldn't mistake a Dwarf for a Kobold, and so he held his weapon at the ready but did not strike.

As he watches her heal his comrade he can't help but think, As a healer she understands sickness well. She understands how it spreads and how to handle it. She could probably cause it if she wishes.

Martel remembers stories of Nyugatran swindlers and cads who would make promises of miracle cures and fake medicines to improve any ailment. Surely it isn't much of a step for some magical healer to concoct a disease that only they can heal, spread it in a village, then come in as the town savior but for a price. Keeping his eyes locked on the Dwarf he waits to see what her next action is.

"Now that the pain is gone and the enemy dispatched, Thuron recognizes the "coincidental" events. He narrows his eyes slightly and questions Mogguth." "How is it that you are here and willing to lend aid so freely?"

"You're welcome, of course. I see that you have dispatched some kobolds. I trust that they were up to no good." Mogguth looks about, brushing dirt from her knees, oblivious to the tension around her. She examines the others for signs of serious injury.

"Aid should always be given freely, young one. As to how am I here? I intended on visiting a local, but his abode was destroyed. I am now searching for Heddy Laopole. I don't suppose any of you are him?"

None of us go by that name. Martel looks to his companions to confirm, turning to each of the three... with a start he remembers that Morris went missing just before the fight. "My queries with the hermit will have to wait. My duties require me to see to the forest first." She eyes the others. Deciding to continue on to the Balrang Caves with your new companion the four of you head off, Tayleron taking his familiar place up front, guiding the group through the woods. The pace slowly picks up as the woods gradually start to thin out and you find yourself walking along an old but serviceable trail. Another hour of travel passes and ahead you can make out what appears to be a large clearing in the woods.

Tayleron moves ahead and stops, motioning the rest of you to join him. In front of you lies an almost perfect circular clearing about 600 feet in diameter with a large fountain sitting directly in the center. A stone laid path winds it's way through a thick growth of the oddest plants any of you have ever seen. Almost two feet in height, the broad leafed plants are an aqua green and bluish color, and when they sway in the breeze they mimic the sight and sounds of waves in the open sea.
OOC:
You are all located on the bottom edge of the clearing, still in the woods, but directly in front of the winding path.

"These strange plants remind me of my time at sea, yet they offer no comfort as the open water does. I have never seen the likes of them, and dare not tread lightly here...I fear this path will leave us vulnerable from all sides should we take it."

With our last encounter still fresh in my mind, I touch the spot that was healed by Mogguth and look at the scout.

"This doesn't seem natural, time is of the essence but perhaps its best to go around. Too much unnatural has been happening around here lately to take unnecessary risks." he pauses a moment "Tayleron you know these woods best, any idea what these are?

Mogguth does seem to recall a few stories of a strange plant that mimics both the motions and sounds of the open sea when rustled. But in the stories she's heard the plants are always located near the sea, not hundreds of miles inland as these are.

With the cowardsparty all in agreement, Tayleron leads the group along the outside of the strange clearing and picks up the path on the other side. As you continue the terrain starts to become a little more rolling before the woods start to clear and you find yourselves in a hilly grassland.

Heading due east the hills start to grow in size and it isn't long before you start seeing cave entrances.
OOC:
The Situation:
There are hills all around, with a good four of five noticeable cave entrances among them. One each to the left and right of your position and three up ahead all spread in a semi circular pattern from your position each still quite a distance from your location.

Mogguth eyes the caves wistfully. She looks about, kicking at the ground, looking for animal tracks. "How big of an animal do you think could live in those caves?"

Thuron waves his hand in the air. "Animals, BAH! They matter not to me." Thuron smirks and raises his eyebrows a bit. "Who will be leading the way?"

As Tayleron looks about, deciding which direction to head in first, he notices what appears to be one of the elusive Noveny Weeds in the distance near the easternmost cave entrance. As you move ahead you get to within 50 feet or so of the the plant when a strange looking canine blinks into existence. It grabs the weed in its mouth and starts running towards the cave entrance.
OOC:
A Blink Dog has nicked your weed (ha!) and is racing towards the entrance of the easternmost cave.

While all of you may or may not have run into a Blink Dog before, you are all aware that they are generally friendly creatures (Lawful Good Alignment).

"By Sylvanus' thorny eyebrows, what did it grab?"
May 20, 2016 8:25 am
"Hey! Come back we need that plant. That dog nicked one of the plants we need. We can follow it. Hopefully it doesn't have pups and won't attack." I turn and look at the group. Prepared to follow the blink dog.
May 20, 2016 1:10 pm
"It seems our path has been laid before us. Follow!"
May 23, 2016 10:05 pm
Agreed! Our path is clear. Let us go.
May 23, 2016 10:23 pm
Mogguth follows the others. "What do you mean 'we need that plant'?
May 24, 2016 12:28 am
"That plant is the final and most important part of a cure for the ailment afflicting Falu. Pap needs that Noveny weed." I continue to follow the blink dog. I try and get it to stop and drop the plant. "Here now let's be nice. Some sick people need that for a cure. Maybe a trade."

Tayleron's plea with the dog does not go unnoticed as it stops just before the cave entrance and turns to look at his pursuers. It cocks it's head to the right and gives the group a quizzical look before shaking its head violently from side to side shredding the Noveny to pieces. With a quick growl and a sharp bark it blinks out, leaving the remnants of the weed on the ground.

The entrance of the cave appears to be nothing but a hole in the side of small hill, but closer inspection reveals that just inside the entrance is a narrow stairway carved from the stone. It heads down maybe twenty feet where the unmistakable dim flickering of torchlight can be seen.
OOC:
You're all at the entrance of the easternmost cave. There are four other noticeable cave entrances in the surrounding hills.
May 24, 2016 12:32 pm
I unstring my bow and carefully wrap it. Then I stow it along side my quiver. I then draw my short sword. "Well gentlemen and lady, I have brought us to the caves. If someone else would prefer to lead on through the caves, I will defer to experience. Be on guard though, the dog's bark may have alerted someone or something to our presence. I stand back from the stairway watching the others and prepare to follow.

As you reach the bottom of the narrow stairway you find yourselves in a large hallway, approximately twenty feet wide, that curves gently to the left. The walls are smooth and decorated with faded paintings of wild life and serene outdoor scenery. The floor is made of intricate stonework that appears to have stood the test of time. Mogguth's darkvision never kicks in as by the time she reaches the bottom of the stairs a lit torch of to your left provides enough light to keep her eyes in the natural light spectrum.

In the distance you hear whistling and footsteps.

Upon Thuron's announcement the footsteps come to an abrupt halt. The unmistakeable sound of a sword being unsheathed is heard as a man responds, "Private Knuff with the great Keletan army." He pauses for a second and then starts to approach. As he rounds the corner you see a large man in full chain mail armor, the proud crest of Kelet adorns his shield. Seeing the wizard before him he quickly sheaths his sword.

"You don't appear to be of Nyugatran stock..." he says and then takes a deep breath through his nose "...and you don't smell of those damned 'gangers either." The blink dog that you followed into the entrance suddenly blinks into existence at the soldier's side.

"And what business do you have in the ruins of Balrang?" he asks, patting the blink dog on its side.
OOC:

We did not mean to intrude, we didn't realize the Keletan Army had a presence in this area. We are on a mission for the village of Falu, an illness has struck and we are in search of the Noveny weed to craft a cure." The crest of Kelet on the mans shield seems to have put Martel in an uncharacteristically trusting manner.
Jun 5, 2016 4:44 pm
"Sergeant!" the man says as he throws a relaxed but respectful salute in Martel's direction.

"So this 'gangers weed has a useful purpose, does it? Blinky and I have been ordered to clear this area of every plant we can find, so we've been collecting every specimen we come across. Got a pile of the stuff not too far away that we're about ready to set a torch to. Don't want any 'gangers getting a hold of this stuff!"

He brings his hand up to his chin and rubs his scruffy beard for a moment obviously pondering something. "What kind of illness is this stuff supposed to cure?"
Jun 5, 2016 8:55 pm
"Ordered to destroy the only cure for a rampant plague? That's got to be suspicious even to you humans."

She shifts her weight and rolls her mailed shoulders. "Mind if we harvest some of those plants before you torch them and condemn the locals to a grim death?"
Jun 5, 2016 10:00 pm
"Plague?" Knuff asks "In Falu, you said?"

"All I know is that the 'gangers are supposed to be using this stuff as some sort of feed. Gets the stink off of them so they can blend in a little easier is what we've been told. Me burning it or you taking it gets its cleared from this area either way. I'll show you were it's at."

With that he motions all of you to follow him and starts walking up the hallway.

Following Private Knuff along the wide hallway you find that its slight arc to the left continues as do the scenic paintings along the wall. It isn't long before you pass another entrance that appears nearly identical to the one which you used to enter.

"Damned things!" Knuff spits in response to Mogguth's query. "Nyugatrans have been using them to infiltrate our army. Greedy things love flesh though and have been taking to eating some of the battle dead. Once they've had a share of some of the dead folk they start to smell something fierce." He stops, gives a quick look back, and shudders as to drive home the point of how bad the smell might be.

"Anyway, they're supposed to use that 'ganger weed to fix the smell. Sergeant from my outfit said they also use the weed to spice up meals, whatever the hell that's means." He stops and steps to the side and motions to a large pile of Noveny weeds piled in the middle of the hallway.

"Take what ya need, the rest is getting torched!"
Jun 8, 2016 4:49 pm
"Thank you Private Knuff! This is really appreciated. You may want to keep a little in case the sickness spreads. It strikes fast, took all of a day to spread to damn near the whole village. I'd say keep an eye out for it but it has no signs, no fever or spots or the like. Everyone just becomes to weak to move." Martel will step up to the pile of Noveny Weeds and start grabbing them to put in his pack.

Jun 8, 2016 5:50 pm

Jun 9, 2016 2:37 am
"I haven't seen anyone out around here until you four showed up."
Jun 11, 2016 3:09 am
Hold on one minute there. How exactly are these duffelgingers or doupplegongers used to infiltrate the army? I mean how do we really know that you aren't one? Or that maybe someone in Falu isn't one? Is there any way besides the smell to tell? I back up slowly from the pile after taking just 5 of the weed. Seems to me like this is way too much for this rare of a weed. "Shape changers, they are" Knuff responds. "One of the things will kill a off a soldier and assume his shape, then work its way through the ranks" he starts to explain as Blinky lays at his feet.

"We've had whole outfits led into ambushes by these things. It starts to play with yer mind a bit when you're not sure who in your outfit is real anymore."

He kneels down and starts rubbing the blink dog between its ears. "Blinky here can detect them... even the ones that don't stink. Which is why I'm sure you're all good. Anyone in that town of yours smell peculiar?"

Jun 14, 2016 12:52 am
Mogguth shifts her weight and rolls her shoulders under her heavy mail. She looks to the others for direction, since they know where to go.
Jun 14, 2016 1:28 am
Thuron looks around the chamber, wondering on the fate of the village. "We have what we need, do we not ?" "Let us thank this soldier for his help and make haste to the village, avoiding what pitfalls we can." Thuron looks to the others for consent.
Jun 14, 2016 4:31 am
"You are right Thuron, we have what we need and should be off. But I would like to hear the privates answer to Tayleron, it would save us a bit of time if we didn't have to avoid that odd patch of plants on the way back."

Martel will dig out the unsoiled cloth that holds Paps mixture to fend off the plague. Then hold it out to Knuff.

"Also, a parting gift in case you decide to come towards Falu or come across anyone stricken with immobility. Not sure how long it will stay effective but Pap makes good stuff."
Jun 15, 2016 10:41 pm
"I have not been towards Falu, as my unit is stationed to the east of here." Knuff answers Tayleron's query.

He carefully takes the cloth from the Martel's hand and inspects it, his nose crinkling as the flowery smell hits his face. Quickly handing it back to Martel he says, "While I appreciate the offer, I'd never be able to smell a 'ganger coming if I were wearing that around my face. Probably best I don't even keep it with me."

Taking a step back to distance himself from the cloth, he wishes everyone a good trip, and goes about striking up a torch to throw on the pile of weeds.
OOC:

With more than enough of the Noveny Weed to meet Pap's needs, the four of you bid farewells to Private Knuff and head back into the Fak Woods. With Tayleron leading the way the group easily bypasses the odd field of blue plants and makes fairly decent time. Nearing your destination you pick up the familiar trail back to Falu.

Not more than five minutes later it's apparent to everyone in the group that you're being shadowed. Someone, about ten feet off of the trail, is trying to keep up with your pace, and not at all being quiet about it.

"Tayleron?! Is that you?" yells out a little girl.

Leaping through the sparse brush I grab up Vicki. "Easy now girl, I have you. Now tell me why you are out here. What happened to your family?"
Jun 17, 2016 9:30 pm
A little startled seeing the ranger's quick approach the young girl quickly relaxes at the sight of her friend. "Mom and Dad set up camp a little ways from here. Everyone was getting sick when the old woman came into town and they wanted to keep me and Vinny safe."

Vicky, the young daughter of the Vargas family, appears to be in good health and is obviously happy to see everyone, although she takes a long hard look at Mogguth.

"Hi!" she finally says to the dwarf, a wide smile on her face.
OOC:
The Vargas Family:
Vicky: The Vargas' 8 year old daughter. Normally an eight year old wouldn't be at home apparently all alone in the woods, but you're all aware that her father is an expert outdoor's man, and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in this family.
Vince: Vicky's 10 year old brother. Like Vicky, he's comfortable out in the woods, but not quite as adventurous as his little sister.
Violet: Vince and Vicky's mother. Almost as deadly with a bow as her husband.
Bob: The father. An excellent tracker, hunter, and bowman.
Jun 19, 2016 5:17 pm
"Well Vicki it's nice to see you healthy. Can you take us to where your family is camped?
Jun 19, 2016 5:47 pm
Mogguth grunts at the girl. "Well met, child. Tell me, is everyone in your camp still okay? If they're ailing it's better we're prepared."
Jun 19, 2016 7:22 pm
Taking Tayleron's hand Vicki starts to lead him towards the family's camp. "Dad was sick when we first set up camp" Vicki responds to Mogguth's query "but he's all better now!"

The little girl expertly guides the group about one hundred feet off of the trail through thick underbrush and down a slight incline until you reach a small clearing. You're greeted with the sight of Violet, Bob, and Vince each behind cover with bows in hand and arrows drawn. The situation doesn't stay tense long as Vicki yells out, "I've found Tayleron!"

Bob slings his bow over his shoulder and moves out to greet you, while Violet and Vince lower their bows but do not move from cover.

"Tayleron, my friend, good to see you!" he says with a smile before greeting Thuron and Martel in just as friendly a manner. "I see we have a newcomer as well", he says with an edge of suspicion obvious in his voice as he eyes Mogguth. "Last stranger this close to Falu brought an awful sickness with her." Violet and Vince each raise their bows about halfway, not enough to actual aim towards Mogguth, but high enough to react quickly should they have to.
Jun 19, 2016 8:01 pm
She nods. "Your wise to be afeared o strangers, with kin at risk." She looks about the camp and then at her companions. "Sylvanus demands vigilance against corruption and disease. If you nae want me in your camp, I'll be on my way and not think the worse of you."
Jun 20, 2016 9:24 pm
Bob looks to the others as if waiting for someone to vouch for the Cleric...
Jun 20, 2016 10:26 pm
"She brings no illness with her. Sylvanus is her ally in this. She can be trusted. I call her friend. But please tell me more about this mystery woman that came to the village. We had word about some kind of shape changer working with the enemy."
Jun 20, 2016 11:49 pm
With a quick glance towards Violet and Vince, Bob has the two Vargas' lower their bows and come out of cover. "You're right, friend. Can't be too careful when family's involved..." he responds to Mogguth, "...make yourself at home." Motioning everyone to have a seat about the fire, Bob offers everyone a bite to eat and a chance to relax. "Some grilled boar, if you like. Vinnie's kill from last night's hunt!" he says, obviously proud of his son's accomplishment.

Once everyone is settled down and had a bit to eat, Violet starts the story of the stranger who visited Falu almost a tenday past. "A little frail thing she was. Said she was traveling toward Olaj and was looking for lodging" Violet says before taking a swig from her waterskin. "As you know, no real lodging to be found in Falu, but old Pap weren't about to send this poor thing on her way, and set her up a bedroll in his place for the night."

"Next morning, woman's gone, and people start getting sick" Bob interrupts, "Rolavs first and then I start coming down with it. Can barely move when Pap shows up at our door, wanting me to drink one of his cures. I refuse straight away, still not sure why, but something just seemed off with... whatever was happening. Vi and Vinny helped me get my feet under me and we made for the woods."

Violet stands up, putting her hand on Bob's shoulder. "Out for almost an entire day, this one" she says with a bit of a chuckle "but I've been scouting home during some evenings, and no one else there is getting any better from the looks of it. Awful smell about the place as well."
Jun 21, 2016 12:49 am
"Well seems like we found the cause of the illness. Only question is if it's Pap or the creature." I look around at the others."We all have to be together on this. The sick ones left won't take kindly to hassling their only supposed hope. I think this weed is used by these creatures as some kind of seasoning as well as to hide the smell. I won't suffer my friends to be under the control of some creature. So my friends are you willing to help me rid Falu of this menace? I'm going regardless one way or another. I turn after that statement and begin readying my gear. Restringing my bow and checking that everything is in place. Then I look at all my companions in turn.

Jun 22, 2016 1:33 pm
As the four of you gather your belongings and check your gear you notice that Bob is doing the same. "Might need an extra bow if things turn ugly. I'll take up a position outside the village and cover you the best I can." With everyone ready to go the group moves out, Tayleron in his usual position up front and Bob bringing up the rear.

A short time later, after leaving the cover of the Fak woods, you approach the village. You can see Evelin, medicine in hand, walking towards the Rolavs' place. Bob gives out a low whistle to catch your attention before signaling to his left and then darts off to find a place to hide and provide covering fire, should it be needed.
OOC:
You're just outside the village, the only sign of life is Evelin.

"This is where things get tricky. We are going to have to split up. Seeing how only Evelyn and Pap are up and about they both may be changers. Martel can you and Thuron capture and tie up Evelyn while Mogguth and I deal with Pap? Unless you have a better plan? I'm just tossing ideas out for now. We need to subdue those that are up and moving. Then determine which are not who they seem to be.
OOC:
Is there any smell from the village? I'm not wearing that mask yet.

You're not catching any type of smell at the moment.
Jun 22, 2016 2:48 pm
"Agreed, let's deal with those who are still mobile but try and not alert any of the other folks in case they are keeping up an act. Thuron we'll take Evelyn after she leaves the Rolavs, keep an eye out for a secluded spot on her path. Shall we meet again at Paps or in the woods?"
Jun 22, 2016 3:03 pm
" I don't trust Pap at this point either. We'll subdue him and meet back here. We can go from there after that is done."
Jun 22, 2016 3:25 pm
Mogguth grunts her acceptance of the plan. She must trust the others to know the people involved and their capabilities. Trust doesn't come easy to her, but wisdom tells her to not open her mouth at this juncture. Is it foolish to follow fools, or more foolish to see fools where there are none.
Jun 22, 2016 10:09 pm
"Let's get to it then. It shouldn't take long, I pray we aren't wrong and about to knock our friends on the head." Martel will then check on Evelyn's progress to the Rolavs and try to spy a hiding spot on her return route.

Thuron agrees with the plan, and tags along with Martel to come up with a plan to capture Evelyn.
"Martel, what do you suggest to capture this ganger? My Charm spell may work to reduce suspicion, if they are humanoid enough."
Jun 24, 2016 1:32 pm
Once this Evelyn is out of sight, Mogguth asks Tayleron, "Do you know where this Pap is? Leaf the way if you do." She prepares the secret Dwarven chant of Stealth which will probably not be of much help.
Edit: corrected my mangling of Tayleron's name, haha.

"Yes Pap is this way. His home is in the center of the city. Perfect for spreading a illness no?" I look to Mogguth as I say this. Then begin walking towards the village center.
Jun 25, 2016 3:42 am
The group splits up, with Thuron and Martel heading towards the Rolav's in an attempt to subdue Evelin, while Tayleron and Mogguth head towards Pap's.

Thuron & Martel: You quietly approach the Rolav residence after Evelin has entered and take up a position behind a wrecked cart that Apu had been working on when he became ill. Not more than five or six minutes later you can hear Evelin wish the family well as she exits and starts to head back towards Pap's. The smell hits you hard, both of you fighting to keep from gagging.
OOC:
Evelin is currently walking by the other side of the cart, quite unaware of your presence. She gives off a little cough and appears fairly weak.
Moggith & Tayleron: Walking through the eerily quiet village the faint smell of rot starts to assault you and only grows stronger as you approach Pap's. By the time you reach his residence the smell is almost overpowering.
OOC:
You're both outside of Pap's place.

Mogguth & Tayleron: You hear some quick shuffling about before Pap flings open the door. "The Noveny!!" he yells excitedly as a wave of stink rushes towards you. You both barely manage to keep from gagging on the smell. "Quickly, the weed, we haven't time to waste." Pap says as he motions you in.

Thuron whispers to Martel: "Evelin is a forgiving person, be ready." Thuron casually steps out from hiding. "Ah, Evelin, we have returned with the Noveny weed. Ok, instead of dragging this comedy of errors out, we're going to assume that Thuron or Martel eventually land a solid blow to the side of Evelin's head and knocked her out.

Evelin is unconscious on the ground and slowly starts to change form into a blue-ish skinned humanoid. 'Pap' has been secured and has regained consciousness and is weakly struggling against his restraints. 'Evelin' is simply lying on the ground.
Jul 8, 2016 10:02 pm
Mogguth will suggest to Tayleron that they should drag 'Paps' back to the meet up spot in the woods.
Jul 9, 2016 12:23 pm
Thuron ties up the blue creature, and ties it to the wagon, then looks for the others.
Jul 15, 2016 10:20 am
" Mogguth I'm stepping outside to check on the others. Please be keeping an eye on this 'thing'. I step outside and notice Thuron loading the wagon."Ho Thuron if that be Evelyn or a blue skinner please be coming over here. Don't think anyone else is up and about. With that I go back into Pap's house. I start looking around the building trying to determine where the rotten stench is coming from.
OOC:
Would that be investigation or perception?
Jul 15, 2016 8:13 pm
OOC:
Either would work, but neither is necessary as it's obvious that the smell is coming from the blue skinned creatures.
Jul 19, 2016 10:52 am
After motioning to Thuron, I head back inside. "Mogguth , I'm going to search the hut. See if I can find anything that will lead us to what happened here. If that thing moves kill it." With that I begin to look through the hut.

Mogguth nods and keeps an eye on the doppleganger.

Searching the hut Tayleron notices a loose floorboard and pries it back. Underneath, bound and gagged, is Pap. Unconscious and looking a little thin, he appears to be in relatively good health.
Jul 20, 2016 10:04 am
"By the gods Pap! Let's get you out of there." I pull Pap out of the hole. "What's happened here? Are you alright? Wait. Wait. Let's get you some food then we can listen to your story. We did manage to capture two of these doublethings." I get Pap as comfortable as possible and give him some food. Then wait until he can tell his part of the story.
Jul 20, 2016 10:11 pm
As soon as the gag is off of Pap's mouth he blurts out, "That thing! It became me...." he starts to cough before taking a bit of water. He slowly finds himself a seat and points at the creature bound on the floor. "I think that thing can read minds. I heard it talking to the four of you when you had first returned from Olaj and I could feel it probing my mind."

His eyes slowly adjust to brightness of the room and he notices Mogguth for the first time. "I take it I owe you my thanks for your part in my rescue, good dwarf. Welcome to Falu or at least what's left of it."

While slowly recovering with food and drink he tells the story of an elderly women who had come into town and requested a meeting with 'The one known as Pap'. Once in private with the women she changed her shape to that of his, "It was if I was looking into a mirror", and knocked him unconscious. "I've been in the crawl space ever since, being fed scraps here and there to keep me going. Probably so that the thing could keep probing my mind."

Suddenly he stands from his chair, "The townspeople!! Are they alright?"
Jul 21, 2016 12:30 am
"Pap most of the village is sick, bedridden, unable to walk. I fear Evelyn may have been a skin changer as well. Hopefully Thuron and Martel can tell us more. We found the Vargas' out in the woods. They are all well. Hopefully we can find Evelyn like we found you. Now that you are safe and with the Vargas' help we can start healing these people." I pace and gesture as I tell Pap the story. Suddenly I turn and stride purposefully toward the changer. I look down at it with disdain clear on my face."You are an abomination and I shall not suffer you to spread your evil and live." With that last remark I plunge my sword into its chest.
Jul 22, 2016 2:55 am
Not wanting to give Tayleron any sense of satisfaction the creature locks his gaze on the ranger as the sword rips into its chest.

"There is more than just one of these creatures in Falu?" Pap asks as he moves towards the door. "We must try and question this other one, see if there is some sort of cure for what they've done here."
