This Kobold is really annoying now. I wince at the stinging from the slash on my thigh. I swing at him again with me sword.

After easily dodging Martel's first attack the little kobold's luck runs cold as it catches the full force of the fighter's weapon. The little creature's lungs expel air as the hammer crashes through its ribs, sending the ugly thing sprawling on his back, dead before he hits the ground.

Thuron rushes to aid Tayleron as both simply wave their weapons in the general direction of the enemy, missing badly. Surprised at Thuron's appearance the kobold takes a stab at the newly arriving wizard, catching him between the ribs. (5HP of damage)
OOC:

Thuron: Well the 5HP damage you avoided before has come back to get ya.
Situation: Only one Kobold left in sight and it's engaged with both Tayleron and Thuron.

Everyone gets a whack at him before it's his turn again.

Tayleron's sword finds its mark, slicing through the kobolds neck and nearly decapitating the creature. It drops where it stands.
OOC:
On a critical hit you get to roll your damage die an extra time. Added it here for you (although the kobold was dead even without it).

"Hullo!" A female dwarven voice calls from the woods, in a shockingly loud voice. A few branches crack as she pushes her way past some trees. When you see her, you notice that she is heavily armoured in chainmail, a shield held foreward, and a battleaxe holding a treelimb out of the way. A crossbow dangles from her back. A holy symbol hangs low on her chest.

"The sounds of ringing steel drew me. Are ye well? I dinnae fancy an axe lobbed at me face but me own axe is whetted."

Her voice is gruff and fierce, but her face belies concern and compassion.
May 9, 2016 8:13 am
Hearing a voice behind me, I pull my sword from the kobold and spin around. Still holding a Longbow in my left hand and a short sword in my right I confront the stranger." Who might ye be? If ye be a friend as that symbol would have me believe my friends be injured."
May 9, 2016 1:35 pm
Thuron stumbles back a step, lands on his ass, exhales sharply, and puts a hand on the wound in his side. "Not fatal, but enough to slow me down a bit. My skills do not favor healing, yet I'd like to preserve Pap's potion should times become dire." Thuron looks to the others flashing a boyish grin and puppy-dog eyes.
OOC:
I have 1 of 6 HP remaining. I'll use the hit die and/or Pap's potion if the group cannot/will not restore me well enough to keep moving.

The dwarven woman transfers her axe to her shield hand and then approaches Thuron. She squats beside him and moves his hand aside you see the wound position.

"I am Mogguth Barbedbraid, priest of Sylvanus." She raises her pendant to her lips and kisses it. It is a stylized oak leaf mounted in a study metal hoop, well polished. She holds the pendant toward Thuron, and beaches her god.

"Sylvanus, Forest Father, lend your aid to your humble servant."

Her hand thrums with power as she releases the pendant and places her palm over the wound.

Martel remains silent through Mogguth's introduction. Her voice had startled him when she first arrived and he turned towards her quickly. But even with his heart still pounding from the fight he couldn't mistake a Dwarf for a Kobold, and so he held his weapon at the ready but did not strike.

As he watches her heal his comrade he can't help but think, As a healer she understands sickness well. She understands how it spreads and how to handle it. She could probably cause it if she wishes.

Martel remembers stories of Nyugatran swindlers and cads who would make promises of miracle cures and fake medicines to improve any ailment. Surely it isn't much of a step for some magical healer to concoct a disease that only they can heal, spread it in a village, then come in as the town savior but for a price. Keeping his eyes locked on the Dwarf he waits to see what her next action is.

Thuron gasps as the healing begins, then relaxes as the process continues and the pain subsides. "Ah! I'm not accustomed to this rapid healing...and it is most appreciated."

"Now that the pain is gone and the enemy dispatched, Thuron recognizes the "coincidental" events. He narrows his eyes slightly and questions Mogguth." "How is it that you are here and willing to lend aid so freely?"

"Thuron begins to wonder if he should have accepted Mogguth's help so quickly."

"You're welcome, of course. I see that you have dispatched some kobolds. I trust that they were up to no good." Mogguth looks about, brushing dirt from her knees, oblivious to the tension around her. She examines the others for signs of serious injury.

"Aid should always be given freely, young one. As to how am I here? I intended on visiting a local, but his abode was destroyed. I am now searching for Heddy Laopole. I don't suppose any of you are him?"
May 12, 2016 4:46 am
None of us go by that name. Martel looks to his companions to confirm, turning to each of the three... with a start he remembers that Morris went missing just before the fight. Still mistrustful of Mogguth Martel states This person is missing I take it. Seems to be a rash of that going around. he then attempts to give a knowig nod to Thuron and Tayleron.

"Aye lots of folks been gone missing since the war passed through the area. Last I heard of Heddy he was heading for Olaj. That was some time ago miss."
I sheath my sword and relax out of my stance. I take a long look at the dwarf female in front of me.

Sylvanus. Now there is a name I haven't heard since I was a pip back with my parents. Nigh on 80 years ago. If she truly does follow him she could be a boon companion. Sylvanus does not choose his followers lightly.

Mogguth shifts her axe back to her main hand, gripping it loosely just below the head and then letting it dangle by her leg. She circles around the elf, eyeing him up critically. "You say that Heddy was heading for Olaj, eh?"

"Lot's missing, war passing, kobolds attacking, and folks in the woods keeping their names to themselves." She wrinkles her nose as if overcome with a sudden itch. "My queries with the hermit will have to wait. My duties require me to see to the forest first." She eyes the others. "If you don't object, I just might follow you folk about and see what kind of trouble follows."
May 13, 2016 7:13 am
"I can understand your dedication to the forest. No one knows them better than meself. I've been the forester here for the better part of 40 years. Seen many changes but such is life and we change with it or perish. My name is Tayleron Wildborn, ranger in these parts, out of Falu. These be my companions Thuron and Martel." I point to each in turn.
" Speaking for meself, I would be welcoming your presence into our group. Travel with us and help us rid the village of a terrible sickness, then perhaps we can aid you in turn." I turn and look towards the others, giving them a slight approving nod. I walk to the kobolds to retrieve my arrows and search the bodies for any signs or symbols that may reveal which tribe they belong too.

The red scaled kobolds don't have much more than their crude weapons and hastily slapped together armor. A few copper coins and a crude key are all that you find.

She nods, acknowledging the three. "A terrible sickness, you say?" She grasps her pendant and lips move in silent prayer. "Sylvanus does not tolerate disease to flourish. Thank you for bringing this to my attention."

"Lead on, to wherever we are going."

"Yes! Let's be on with it! Mogguth's healing has left me with a renewed vigor!" Thuron hops up, and retrieves his bolt from the kobold's neck.

Deciding to continue on to the Balrang Caves with your new companion the four of you head off, Tayleron taking his familiar place up front, guiding the group through the woods. The pace slowly picks up as the woods gradually start to thin out and you find yourself walking along an old but serviceable trail. Another hour of travel passes and ahead you can make out what appears to be a large clearing in the woods.

Tayleron moves ahead and stops, motioning the rest of you to join him. In front of you lies an almost perfect circular clearing about 600 feet in diameter with a large fountain sitting directly in the center. A stone laid path winds it's way through a thick growth of the oddest plants any of you have ever seen. Almost two feet in height, the broad leafed plants are an aqua green and bluish color, and when they sway in the breeze they mimic the sight and sounds of waves in the open sea.
OOC:
You are all located on the bottom edge of the clearing, still in the woods, but directly in front of the winding path.
Behold my awesome, life like, drawing!
