Ok I made Mal's cousin Thurig who was maimed in the goblin war that took her parents and fled with her to take refuge in the church.

I'm a bit torn though between the dwarf and a super dumb human bulldozer using one of my hyperbolas sets of stats. Basically a glass cannon with 18 strength but bad everything else (except con).

I want to make a meat shield but would a heavy hitter be better?

A half Orc and a possible familial connection or a human fighter.

Are our seconds another band of adventurers looking to join forces or three strays that get picked up separate?

I am working both of my options as fellow members of the church to provide an easy in to the gang.

We have some good tanks already, a solid striker would be pretty useful. Though perhaps we could go track down Elmo again!!!

Wow, the artwork from your books is clearly different from the artwork in mine. I don't think I've ever seen that picture before.

As far as limitations for character creation. I have none. If it's something that would be "unusual", like any of the Underdark races, we can figure out a backstory about how they got to the surface. I'm also not 100% opposed to any of the races in the Carcass Crawler zines. Obviously, it's going to be tough to suddenly explain why a myconid is hanging out in the tavern of the Welcome Wench, but we can probably sort it out if needed.

Luban the Unlucky is approved with a couple notes on his AC, Initiative, and a question about his weapons. Also, are we thinking Luban is chilling in Hommlet looking for work or did @cowleyc have other plans?

I mentioned before to @KCC I'm good with the underdark races or even some of the Carcass Crawler ones as well, but if they're too unsual we'll have to come up with a reason they would be in Hommlet. I'm sure we can figure it out.

I see @dominion451 has a dwarf fighter and it looks like a human one? Just let me know which one you would like to use.

If anyone is curious what other strange races are available to the Players from the OSE Carcass Crawler 'zines, let me know and I can upload their pages in the Available Classes thread. You have some separate classes and races available through those as well.

Luban is desperate for work, having but a single gold coin to his name. He's probably at the tavern trying to find someone willing to buy him a drink. He hasn't had the best of luck in life, hence the single coin.

Having a bit of a dilemma with this 6th and final character.

We have a Halfling, a dwarf cleric, a human magic user, a half Orc thief, and a fighter of some kind.

A good mix thus far, and we’ve even hit all the classic party composition beats. The core four, so to speak.

So what’s next? I got quite good stats. So it would be a shame to waste them!

Do we need another bruiser? A knight or Paladin perhaps? A Ranger or warden for wildlife stuff? A bard for general nonsense antics?

Well if we go by sneaky/fightey/spelly types we have:
1 sneaky / 1 fightey (Halfling)
1 sneakey (thief)
1 fightey / 1 spelly (cleric)
1 spelly (magic user)
1 fightey (fighter)

So that's 2pts sneaky, 3pts fightey, 2pts spelly. If you wanted to keep the party balanced in that regard, a sneaky / spelly class might fit the bill. Maybe a bard with a sneaky race, or a druid/illusionist with a sneaky race. Ranger's are sort of sneaky / spelly but it takes some leveling up before they can use divine magics.

On the other hand, your party now has a 1st magic-user and a 1st thief, both of which have resilience of a jello salad, so maybe having another tank in there to keep attackers off the wimpies doesn't hurt.

On the other hand you have a PC that's already got a lot of the sneaking department covered between her class abilities and that elven cloak, and she's proven time and time again that she can fight both ranged and in melee. So maybe you want a magic class just for a balance of roleplaying...

Also, I posted Part 8, as yet untitled, in the official gameplay threads. Feel free to post as you see fit.

Also, I updated the last post of Part 7 to include XP awards for this last delve. I'd say that Mal is almost certain to level up after one more treip to the ruins, assuming she survives. Gilly isn't too far off either. I haven't updated the spreadsheet with the new XP values yet, as I'll make sure everything looks alright to you all first and then I'll update as long as there aren't any quibbles.

Normally I wouldn't give out awards for enemy loot for Kobort's stuff, but since they're dead I gurss I can tell you. Turuko and Kobort were actually bad guys in the module. Their whole "schtick" was they try and join up with the party, do as little as possible to risk getting hurt in any combats, and then when the party is beaten up, whipped, and ready to head back to town to rest and recuperate they take advantage of their good heatlh to rob you of any loot you hoped to bring back. The ghouls basically forced them into combat, and once paralysis hit, they couldn't enact their plan.
But as the module clearly makes them enemies with intent to rob you and kill you if necessary, I'll count their stuff as enemy loot, the only thing of real value being the fully equipped war horse.

Do an elf so we get more wizard spells (sleep, ideally) plus a good ranged fighter (needed since dungeon corridors are tight)

Plus infravision and immune to ghoul paralysis (*ahem*)

*Just my two cents

For the record, seeing as how I've played this module back in the 90s, I knew about Turuko and Kobort but far be it from me to metagame. Mal thought they were on the level, she's not very wise for a cleric lol.

I went with Mal's cousin Thurig for my second and he is a super solid tank. 10 HP, AC 1, infravision and dwarven savings throws... Tight.

Hmmm… yes, I did have some nice elf art, but I used it up on my new elf character in Nezz’s new DCC game :D

This is the core of my problem with char gen. I need to find character art before I can truly settle!

I went on a bit of a deep dive. Trying to keep things on the level as much as possible. No goblins, drow or dark dwarves in Hommlet just yet! That’s the last thing this groups reputation needs! Deep gnome was an option, along with vanilla. Mayhaps too close to Gilly in disposition and size though! :D

We have a lot of dwarves. Maybe an elf truly is needed!

Will submit later tonight in any case! Give myself a time limit! :D

I'm the same way, gotta have a good pic before I'm happy ;).

Yeah you did just make an elf across the street didn't ya?

You’ll all be happy to know that I’ve fiiiinally found art I like. To me, the character feels like a magic caster of some kind.

Question: which seems more interesting? An illusionist, which could be a nice compliment to our magic user.

Or a mage?: which is kind of a magic-less magic caster! More skill based magicks instead of memorized spells! I’m taken with the mage to be honest, and seeing how that might run. It relies on spell scrolls… which we would need to petition the DM for.

But the illusionist brings more to the table up front in terms of that one spell slot per day for this darned moat!

There’s also the opportunity to go Druid, but I didn’t really get that feeling from the art. And the Druid kind of looms large in the game already with the NPC, so no sense in crossing streams.

Arcane bard is another option, or half elf. But again we are delaying that spell slot until level 2! Which, If our current characters are any indication, may be some time!

I'm getting Illusionist from that image! And it would be nice to have someone to challenge Eltrezar's pompous attitude.
