Nighttime at the Azorean International Kaiju Sanctuary.

Doubling as a nature preserve and prison for the world's largest monsters, the Azores sit in the bosom of the Atlantic Ocean almost a thousand miles from any human populated areas. This volcanic island chain of nine islands boasts a variety of terrain - from subtropical forests, pasturelands, and volcanic fields, to mountains, black sand beaches, and windswept seaside cliffs. The largest island in the archipelago serves as the abode for a majority of the Sanctuary's residents. Known as São Miguel Island to the Portuguese, that name has been mostly retired in favor of the more popular name, "Monster Island". Here, the kaiju are spread fairly evenly across the island's more than 287 square miles of space, each having claimed a chunk of land for themselves. A few of the more reclusive kaiju, particularly those that don't mind taking a swim, have staked their territory on the other Azorean islands such as Pico, Terceida, Faial, and Santa Maria. The sea floor around the islands drops off quickly not far from the shore, providing plenty of depth for ocean-going kaiju to move around in the local waters.

Most of the human towns and structures that once dotted São Miguel have long been flattened or overtaken by nature. Ironically, the absence of humans has done much to replenish the ecology of the island, despite its colossal, earth-shattering inhabitants. Only the occasional standing ruin or crumbling road still protrudes here and there - a sobering reminder that the Azores was once home to almost a quarter of a million people. Still, humanity's presence hasn't completely withdrawn. Even the least intelligent of the kaiju on Monster Island seems cognizant of the fact that the Sanctuary is, more or less, a prison to hold them. Far in the distance, several miles from shore, the faint lights of the U.N. international flotilla can be glimpsed floating in the darkness, forming a blockade that encircles the island. Although these lights once prompted the kaiju into battles with the KTF, most of the Sanctuary's residents have come to associate the lights with the arrival of metal giants that serve the humans. Likewise, the offshore weapon batteries have done their share of damage to the island's inhabitants.

On a clear night like tonight, a survey of Monster Island reveals nothing unusual from any other night. The island's lush green forests blanket most of the region, broken only by towering black shapes silhouetted against the moonlight. Given their size, it's easy to mistake these motionless black forms for small mountains or rocky outcroppings in the distance... until they slowly begin to lumber through the landscape. Sounds produced by inhuman vocal chords pierce the nighttime silence and echo across the island. Large splashes in the ocean off of the coast hint at massive "things" moving beneath the waves. Fire and smoke arise from Kirashaku's territory as the kaiju uses its flame breath to cook a beached whale before dragging it inland. The insectoid kaiju called Lepidoptera has taken to the sky; its colossal luminous forewings blotting out part of the moon like a butterfly-shaped lunar eclipse. And at the westernmost portion of the island, coming from within a flooded volcanic caldera, a pale blue glow marks the nesting place of Daitatsu, the Monarch of Monsters. Most kaiju instinctively understand to give the Great Dragon's territory a wide berth.

Yet tonight, your kaiju feel a sudden pull to head toward Daitatsu. Regardless of what you're doing - whether hunting, or resting, or roaring challenges to a rival - you feel the inexplicable, subconscious impulse to approach the western part of Monster Island. Your entire sentai seems to receive this call, and so you begin to move in Daitatsu's direction. Land trembles, waters roil, and hurricane-force winds churn as you make your way to the caldera.
OOC:
Take a moment to introduce and describe your kaiju, and maybe what it was doing prior to the Call.

Remember that roleplaying is going to be a bit unusual in this game. Your characters can't really communicate verbally with each other, so no monologues or conversations. You need to rely on body language, vocalizations, and actions to speak for you. Assume that your characters can understand each other and convey very basic messages. By basic, I mean a single word, such as "hungry," "attack," "hurt," "leave," "danger," "humans," etc. You can usually convey emotions very easily. What you can't do is communicate complex messages with one another (so no developing complicated battle strategies, for instance). These limitations partly reflect your characters' not-quite human-level intelligence, as well as the difficulties of cross-species communication.

When trying to communicate something to other players, describe your actions and then feel free to explain exactly what your character means. Alternately, don't explain if you'd rather leave your actions open to interpretation by the other players.

The roleplaying limitations for this game may be a little challenging, but I also think it'll be an interesting experiment.

Omukade is belligerent, or more than usual. The two-headed megapede skitters, it's bulging egg sac raised proudly into the air behind her. As the eggs develop, she's become more and more anxious for a nesting site, but there is no safe place on the island. Her young would likely become food for the other kaiju, and she cannot fight them all.

She is trying to scratch a pit into a cliff wall when the call comes. Perched a hundred yards above jagged rocks pounded by surf, her left head looks up, then at the right head. They both shrug, and give up the attempted manufacture of a safe nest. She moves upward up the rocky cliff, her many legs easily grasping the seemingly smooth surface.

Taclydus soars above the island scoping the canopy for food. His white fur ruffles in the wind as he flies. His wings, bat-like skin that stretches between his arms and upper legs, allow him to glide at a height that keeps him relatively safe from other Kaiju.

At this point, he feels the call to go West. He swoops down and begins to slow to a leisurely glide just above the canopy abandoning the search for food. Eyes staring westward toward Daitatsu's territory.

Panghol is dozing in a cozy hollow that he dug far below one of the many rocky outcrops of the island. By now, his burrowing has created a network of tunnels he uses to travel from one spot to another on the island. The entry points are smaller than the other Kaiju, as he dug them curled into a scaly ball. This grants his tunnels a defensive function.
Panghol is still exploring the depths of this island: if it has to become his lair for the near future, he needs to adapt to its features, find the best hunting grounds and resting shelters.

A sudden change in the underground vibrations causes his massive armored head to uncurl and raise. This is a new occurrence, an irresistible summon that unsettles him and urges him to follow it to its source.

He drops from the hollow and rolls in the direction of the call, choosing existing tunnels and occasionally digging new ones as he follows the reverberating call through the bowels of the island.

OOC:
May I do some inner exposition with my sapience? :P (I will keep it to actions and basic telepathy for actual communication. Unless we get to chat with humans, then I want to be a drawing octopus-squid.)
Enjoying coldness of the night, with his pale long-limbed body floating just below the ocean surface, Straj watches. His multiple amber eyes peer at the far away lights of human ships, observing them with rapt attention, barely blinking or changing focus. The squid-like kaiju is just close enough to make out movement of people on the warships, his unnaturally sharp vision allowing him to sate his curiosity even against water, darkness and distance. It is a privilege, in a way, to be allowed so close to the flotilla, and the kaiju uses it to its fullest, entertaining himself by watching humans.

Yet even as he watches, Straj's tentacles fold and unfold against themselves, itching to grab, wrap around or simply touch something. The humans are endlessly fascinating, but the kaiju knows not to approach the warships any closer than he already did, and there is a limit to how much he can learn from afar. In his mind, Straj wishes for something new, eyes darting towards the island in the distance. A new kaiju, a new human, a new puzzle - a new something to entertain his thirst for knowledge.

And then, he chirps in confusion; a weird impulse, a distant subconscious call from the Great Dragon pulls at him. He can't resist this summon, and the giant squid dives, propelling himself back towards the Monster Island. And while he swims, Straj wonders at this new development, his tentacles glowing in agitation and excitement both. What does Daitatsu wish from him, and how is she sending this call?

OOC:
@Straj,

Since you have the "Fully Sapient" racial ability, most the the restrictions mentioned above don't apply to you. Your character can communicate at a roughly human level of complexity. You can even communicate with humans if you have the right language skill. You can easily serve as an interpreter between kaiju and humans, or between different kaiju in your own group.
All of you make the nighttime trek across Monster Island to reach the home of Daitatsu.

For the flyers and swimmers, the journey is uneventful. Only a few kaiju are capable of going airborne, and they tend to avoid each other's airspace. Aside from Taclydus, the only other flyer currently in the sky in Lepidoptera. The gigantic butterfly kaiju is perhaps one of the least aggressive monsters on the island. As she sees you approaching, she moves north to give you a wide berth. It's a clear gesture of deference, as though to say "...I don't want any trouble..."

Likewise for Straj, the only other kaiju that predominantly lives in the waters around Monster Island is Fringehead. However, the bellicose leviathan typically spends much of its time sleeping in a bay at the northern side of the island, so swimming along the south coast is a safe and easy journey.

For the land-based kaiju, the trip to the western tip of the island is barely a hour's walk, probably less depending on where you are when you receive the Call. It's a quiet night; at the moment, the only sounds are your own thunderous footsteps. Swathes of forest jolt and shake with each passing footfall. As you travel westward, the island's picturesque scenery changes from woodlands and empty fields to rolling hills and small mountains dotted with the occasional lake or pond. The trip to Daitatsu's nest forces you to skirt uncomfortably close to the territories of a number of other residents in the Sanctuary... some of whom are known for their hostility toward their fellows.

You trudge along the edge of the the laurel woods claimed by the kaiju known as Razorback, and the sound of rocky grinding grows louder as you approach. The massive ankylosauroid boar can be seen sharpening its tusks against a mountainside with swift, punishing thrusts. At your passing, the kaiju stops and watches; its eyes reflecting the moonlight not unlike a cat. Razorback shifts its armored, bristle-clad body in your direction and lowers its head, pawing aggressively at the ground with its hooves as though readying to charge. Ultimately though, the kaiju takes no action other than staring you down. Why he doesn't attack, who can say? Perhaps the monster also heard the Call and knows better than to interfere.

Further on, you walk near the hunting grounds of Tsuchigumo, which is obvious from the thick webs of spider silk that coat the surrounding terrain like a delicate white blanket. You glimpse its burrow in the distance, and the giant spider scuttles to the entrance in order to observe your passing with its many dead black eyes. Only its head, thorax, and a few spindly legs are visible; the rest of its bulbous body remains out of view. The kaiju's fang-like chelicerae are continuously moving, and the fresh bones scattered in front of its burrow seem to indicate that the creature just finished a meal. Most likely one of the large mammals that the humans regularly place on the island as foodstuff for the inhabitants.

The territory claimed by Nachtmacher is carefully patrolled by its resident kaiju - at least during the night - and the nocturnal superspecies dromaeosaur quickly makes his presence known when you get too close. Although seemingly hesitant to start a fight, the lightning-spewing mega-raptor also brooks no encroachment into his home turf. With quick, agitated movements, the kaiju paces back and forth along what he perceives to be the edge of his land, inadvertently smashing trees aside with his wildly thrashing tail. He chirps and growls at you. Like a tesla coil, split-second arcs of electricity periodically crackle across his inky black skin. The air smells of smoke and ozone. Nachtmacher anxiously taps his sickle-like toe claws against the ground and guards his territory with manic vigilance until you've moved far passed it.

Eventually, the terrain gives way to basaltic lava fields. You begin to see billowing steam vents and bubbling hot springs that hint at the volcanism below the earth. You approach the mountainous caldera claimed by Daitatsu and scale its sloped side. By now, the pale blue glow emanating from within the crater is many times brighter than the light of the Moon. Upon reaching the summit or flying above it, you see the nest of the Great Dragon. Known as the "Caldeira das Sete Cidades" to the original human inhabitants of São Miguel, the caldera is over three and a half miles across. Once covered in lush green foliage, the plant life within the caldera is mostly dead; killed off by Daitatsu's radioactivity. The long dormant stratovolcanic crater is largely flooded, and a shallow lake sits at its base. At the center of the crater lake is a small islet. In actuality, the islet seems to be little more than a mound of dirt rising from the water. And resting on the islet, partially buried in the dirt, is the splotchy white egg roughly the size of an automobile.
OOC:
@Straj, the caldera is right next to the sea, so you can quickly cross the summit and get into the lake. It won't require staying out of the water for long.
[ +- ] Picture of the caldera in real life
And then there's Daitatsu herself. At six-hundred feet tall, the Monarch of Monsters is imposing, to say the least. She is easily twice the height of even the largest kaiju in your sentai. Her reptilian body is vaguely humanoid in shape; she's bipedal, but that's generally where such comparisons to humanity end. As her nickname suggests, the Great Dragon anatomically resembles popular depictions of a Western mythological dragon. She sports a long snout with a colossal incisor-filled maw wide enough to swallow kaiju at the smaller end of the size scale. Her tail is sinuous yet powerful; hundreds of feet long and capable of leveling skyscrapers with a hard swipe. Her hands and feet end in claws the length of semi-trailers, and a row of vicious-looking spines and jagged upright plates adorn her back, running from the base of the head to the tip of the tail. A pair of membranous wings, boasting a wingspan of nearly a quarter of a mile when spread, are folded at rest along the monster's sides. Perhaps the most notable trait possessed by Daitatsu, however, is her glow: a pulsing blue light that steadily leaks from her body. The light is eerie but too soft to blind. It emanates from the minute spaces between scales, from the edges of her dorsal osteoderms, and from the depths of her throat. Its as though the kaiju's abdomen is housing a small blue star and just barely containing its energy.

You find Daitatsu relaxing in the lake at the bottom of the crater, and her massive form is huddled protectively around the egg. Given her great size, the shallow lake is little more than a puddle to the kaiju. Her glow illuminates the water, making it glisten like an emerald and casting dancing lights along the inside of the caldera. At your arrival, the Monarch of Monsters lifts is titanic head in your direction, and her slitted reptilian eyes fix on you. You catch the glow of blue fire churning behind her eyeballs. Daitatsu rises to her feet cautiously so as not to disturb the egg. Her casual, unhurried manner indicates that she was expecting you. The Great Dragon's muscles are like coiled steel, rippling as she moves and encased in a scaly bluish-green hide that can shrug off most kaiju attacks with the same ease that kaiju can shrug off most human attacks.

Once you have all arrived, the Monarch of Monsters belts out a roar. Not an aggressive vocalization, but one of warning. It translates roughly to "Danger."

OOC:
In terms of communicating with humans, I don't have any language skills and I also wrote in my bio that I have no organs to mimic speech - but can I use drawings to communicate? Tentacles are good for grabbing brushes! :P ...Actually, I probably need Tool User for that. How about telepathy then?
Straj approaches the caldera from the coastline, pulling himself on the beach and scuttling between the treeline and over the summit to reach the water. He pauses at the edge of the lake, tentacles dipping into it while the squid inspects the surrounding, amber eyes looking in all directions save for the one he came from. He looks around with gleeful delight, happy to visit the area usually out of his reach, and his pupils dilate wildly as Straj stares at Daitatsu, drinking in the sight of the majestic - and intriguing - kaiju.

Straj is somewhat concerned about the lake's radioactivity, but eventually his curiosity wins over, and the squid slides into the water. He clearly itches to move forward, tentacles reaching towards the islet, but doesn't dare to approach and seem like a threat to the Great Dragon's egg. So instead he opts for extending one tentacle from the water and wrapping it around whichever member of his sentai is the closest.

He perks up when Daitatsu lets out a marvellous roar of warning. Danger? Danger means something new! Straj doubts that humans are the ones causing the mighty Monarch of Monsters concern, and it's unlikely to be other kaijus. Then what? The squid chirps in what clearly translates to excitement, his tentacles flailing around him and trying to pull at other kaijus in a call to action. "Explore!" - Straj's telepathy sings at whoever he is touching.

Upon the warning from Daitatsu, Taclydus soars high into the air as fast as he can. High enough that he can just make out the edges of the caldera on every side and a little beyond. Scanning the horizons, he doesn't know what the danger is but he wants to be ready and see it, before it sees him.

Taclydus decides to patrol the skies, screeching down at all other Kaiju he sees gliding through the skies in a small circle just to the west of Daitatsu and her egg.

He can see Straj as he enters the lake, Taclydus eyes the squid suspiciously but something tells him he is not the threat that he is here to help with. His attention returns to the horizon, deciding to be vigilant looking outward for danger.
OOC:
Would a "Notice" roll be appropriate here to see if I can notice what danger is in the area?

The multi headed megapede perches on the rim of the volcano. She examines the caldera with some envy. It's highly protected from all but the flyers. Still, the sentai all arrived with little difficulty so it isn't great. She'll need to keep looking.

When the Great Dragon roars, she understands that it isn't about them being near to her nest. There is something else bothering the Monarch of Monsters, a threat to her and to the sentai.

While they don't trust each other implicitly, her group of kaiju have rallied together before, providing protection to each other from other kaiju or sentai.

She shooters sideways on the rim, one head looking away for signs of this danger. The other swings from the dragon to the others, a questioning look in her insectoid face.

Panghol feels the heat of the Lair of the mighty Monarch even before seeing it. The underground layers are warmed by the lava flowing to the great caldera. He emerges by the volcano and climbs to the crater, mesmerized by the glow emanating from it. It is the first time that he has come in such close proximity. He reaches the top to behold the Monarch in all its intimidating majesty, the vast wings framing its head.
FlyingSucculent says:

Straj is somewhat concerned about the lake's radioactivity, but eventually his curiosity wins over, and the squid slides into the water. He clearly itches to move forward, tentacles reaching towards the islet, but doesn't dare to approach and seem like a threat to the Great Dragon's egg. So instead he opts for extending one tentacle from the water and wrapping it around whichever member of his sentai is the closest.
"Explore!" - Straj's telepathy sings at whoever he is touching.
He notices a familiar giant creature emerging from the water near him, he has seen it before and they fought side by side. He knows it is not hostile, its focus also on the Great Dragon. Panghol is startled as the creature's tentacles touch him, but feels no threat. Then his mind is pervaded by a warning of danger from the Dragon, then by a vivid thought from the aquatic creature. But what could the Monarch be scared of?
He rotates his scaly head to look at the Giant Squid, then at the other mighty Kaiju gathered around the crater, all companions in past struggles against dangerous hostile giants inhabiting this island.

OOC:
@ Taclydus, go ahead and make a Notice roll.

For those of you that are new to the Savage Worlds system, Taclydus is making a "Trait roll". A Trait roll is a Skill or Attribute check. In this case, Taclydus is rolling for his Notice skill. Each Trait has a die value associated with it. For Taclydus, his Notice skill is at d6 so that's what he's rolling, plus any modifiers from Edges, Hindrances, or Racial Abilities.

Trait rolls benefit from what's called a "Wild Die." This is an extra d6 that accompanies every Trait roll. Take the highest of the Trait die or the Wild Die. Consequently, Taclydus will be rolling 2d6. One is his Trait die and the other is his Wild Die.

The Target Number for Trait rolls is always 4. A result of 4 or better means success.

Trait rolls and damage rolls can "Ace." This is when you roll the highest number possible on a die, before modifiers (a 4 on a d4, a 6 on a d6, etc.). When you Ace, you get to roll the die again and add it to the total. You can continue rolling as long as you keep Acing. Any modifiers should be applied after adding up an Aced roll.

Every 4 points over the Target Number is called a "Raise." So if you need a 4 to succeed on a roll, and you get a 12, that counts as two Raises. Raises sometimes provides additional benefits to a roll, or sometimes you just need to know how successful a Trait roll was.

Added notice roll in original post. Thanks for the reupping on the rules. I think the hardest part of a new system for me is "when to roll". Looks like a failed haha
Sep 16, 2020 7:35 am
OOC:
we have to remember to tick the checkbox "Reroll Aces" on each die of the Trait roll. So the Wild Die can ace, and the Skill die can ace too. I usually roll them separately on GP, so I can tick both checkboxes. Super easy to forget, though...

@Taclydus

At Daitatsu's suggestion of danger, you take to the nighttime sky and search for any obvious threats. You see the lights of the warships in the distance, but nothing else catches your attention. Beyond the island and the ships is just the endless expanse of ocean.
Daitatsu shifts her gaze around to each of you. She eyes Straj, making certain the cephalopod kaiju isn't getting too close to her egg, and then gazes up at those of you surmounting the caldera's summit. She exhales through her flared nostrils, and each exhalation unleashes what humans would measure as gale force winds.

The Great Dragon begins producing an odd chuffing sound; a deep gurgling from the base of her throat. The kaiju makes a series of head-bobbing and neck-stretching movements that are vaguely reminiscent of a bird about to feed its young. Her throat dilates and constricts repeatedly, and you see the outline of a bulge as is moves up her esophagus. After a full minute of this, Daitatsu lowers her head and opens her vast, toothy maw. She regurgitates the contents of her stomach: foamy stomach acid along with something large and partially digested. The mystery object falls onto the ground at the edge of the lake.

From each of your vantage points, you are quick to discern that its a detached head - a kaiju head, given the size. The flesh is somewhat liquified and digested away, and you see clear patches of brain without a skull. However, you're still able to make out some of the features it had in life: orange connective tissue like that of an octopus or cuttlefish, the remnant of lidless eyes, leaky pigment sacs, and bits of a rigid material similar to shell or carapace. Your powerful olfactory senses can still smell the creature; the odor is pungent and fishy like most things from the sea. More surprisingly, however, is that you each see and smell pieces of metal fused to the monster's flesh.

The Monarch of Monsters gives the malformed kaiju head a lingering look of disdain and glances at all of you again. She emits a deep rumbling growl, and the sound is intense enough to vibrate the surface of the lake around her. Even without words, her message is clear... she views this creature - whatever it was - as a threat. All of you have lived with the Great Dragon for years on the island and understand that she rarely considers anything a threat. Rival, certainly... the Monarch of Monsters has had her share of rivalries with other kaiju, and often provoked the humans out of rage or sport. But the notion of her regarding something to be a threat, as though it actually poses a danger to her existence, is alarming. Ever since she'd laid her egg, Daitatsu had noticeably grown more careful and reclusive. You could all smell that some of the kaiju on the island were beginning to wonder if their alpha was becoming weak...

What was the monster? None of you have ever seen its kind in the Sanctuary. Had it traveled here? There was a shared understanding among the giant residents of the island that something was happening in the world. The source of the feeling was unclear, but all of the kaiju felt it... a sort of constant unease. Many of the monsters were more agitated than normal, and fights between the kaiju were occurring more often. It was not unlike the stress response that some of the more territorial kaiju display when their territory is being invaded by an enemy.

Daitatsu points her head toward the horizon and makes a sharp flick of the snout, urging you to leave this place. Not the caldera, specifically. The island. She motions beyond the lights of the warships, and you get the sense she's indicating the human-held mainland across the ocean. She then indicates the human blockade surrounding the Sanctuary, roars defiantly in the flotilla's direction, and looks at all of you. Her massive clawed foot comes down on the decomposing head and crushes it with a wet splatter. Looking around, Daitatsu waits to see if any of you are brazen enough to challenge her authority.

Old instincts come to the fore. The Monarch of Monsters wants you to go on the hunt. Kill more of these creatures. They are a threat. Don't let the humans stop you. Rampage.
Sep 18, 2020 3:12 pm
Straj chirps excitedly at the perspective of discovering new fascinating creatures - with metal parts, almost a hybrid between kaiju and mechs, isn't it fascinating, - but the tone of his chittering quickly turns anxious when Daitatsu roars towards the ocean, and more specifically, the human fleet. The squid swirls around itself in agitation, and his tentacles shoot out towards the other summoned kaiju that he can reach, trying to wrap around Panghol and Omukade.

"Hide-move," the squid's thoughts he is sending towards them are uncharacteristically sharp, with the only emotion accompanying them being worry. "Avoid humans. No attack." His amber eyes glance towards the Monarch of Monsters, and the squid shrinks a little on himself, before quickly pulling back from the water, hastily moving through the trees to reach the coastline. He dives back into the ocean, swimming towards the warships immediately. Straj guesses that the other kaiju will follow the shortest route as well, and he glances sometimes upwards, trying to see the great shadows of Boiuna or Taclydus gliding over the water.

The squid surfaces dangerously close to the stationed fleet, raising his tentacles and trying to wave at humans in some sort of warning. Sure, they imprisoned the kaiju - and Straj himself isn't very fond of that fact, - but he remembers the science people that brought him puzzles and interesting things to look at, and he doesn't want them gone. Humans don't usually understand him, but surely this will help them notice four giant kaijus coming in their direction? With luck, they'll let them pass...
OOC:
He is trying. I don't think I have any skills for this, but I can do untrained Smarts maybe?
...I did take a Human Approved perk for "marine-related professions". I imagine it includes the fleet, though I was originally thinking about marine biologists. XD

A bit unrelated, but can Burrowing work underwater? Like on ocean floor?

Taclydus, knowing instantly what he must do immediately flies as high as he can. Rising fast at first, as the air pressure drops and temperatures cool he begins to slow and circle slightly to continue climbing. The horizon growing and the world below shrinking as he rises. As he reaches the limits of his heights he can just make out the island and flotilla below, he knows he must go as high as possible to escape the war ships.
OOC:
I am going to take it that in order to hit the highest possible height it will be quite taxing so maybe an athletics roll? for the record I am not attempting to break the line just yet just flying super high

@Straj,

You can communicate telepathically with humans, so lack of speech organs isn't a problem. However, you'll need at least a d4 in a human language skill to intelligibly communicate with them (this is something you can always take in the future). You can communicate somewhat well with other kaiju in your sentai, but your mind is still a little too alien for humans to understand you clearly, and vice versa. For the moment, human verbal communication probably strikes you as strange and indecipherable.

You have Human Approved for kaijuologists/marine biologists, and there are definitely some on the warships working as civilian specialists. They are aware that Straj is particularly intelligent, though you haven't worked out a clear means of speaking with them yet. The scientists will likely keep the military from firing on you, but that can't be said for the other kaiju in your sentai.

You'd need the Tool User racial ability to use writing implements.

As far as burrowing through the ocean floor, it's possible. However, the Burrowing ability (like what Panghol can do), is intended for digging through regolith (loose soil, sand, and stone) and not solid rock. I'm fine with a burrower being able to dig through solid rock, as well, but it would be very slow-going. It'd say that digging speed through rock would be about 1/10th Pace. That's roughly 4 miles per hour (6.58 kph) for a kaiju with Pace 6" KS.

To move at normal burrowing speed, a burrower would have to stick to the uppermost layer of the ocean floor, which is unconsolidated sediment. If you go deeper than 0.4 km/0.25 miles, you hit bedrock. The problem is that, with the weight of the water above it, tunnels dug through sediment will immediately collapse and the burrower would suffocate or get crushed by the pressure. Consequently, to successfully burrow beneath the ocean, a burrower would need to dig directly through the bedrock. But again, this would be a very slow process, especially if you are trying to dig across the span of the ocean.

@Straj,

Yes, if you want to try to communicate with the humans, it'll be an "unskilled attempt". Roll a d4 at -2. Don't forget to also roll your Wild Die, which also gets the -2 penalty. As long as one of those dice gets a 4 or higher, you succeed. Both rolls can still Ace.

OOC:
I'm not sure if I ever specified it, but I wanted my telepathy to be touch-based, since having general telepathy seems kinda overpowered. (...is it overpowered for a kaiju?) And I doubt they will let me to swim closer for that; even if, I don't really have any idea what thought I can send that would be interpreted as "let these kaiju pass, we're going to fight aliens".

But they do still see a giant squid frantically waving at them, right? They can't say I didn't try. XD

Panghol feels the urgency of Daitatsu's command, and roars in deference, a low rumble that shakes his scales from deep inside. He looks at the other kaiju, then turns away from the caldera and begins the descent towards the coast.

Once on the seaside, he spots Straj waving his tentacles at the strange human contraptions floating around the island. He knows they can sting with their cowardly attacks from afar. Maybe the squid is attempting to distract the humans' attention?

He will keep walking as he reaches the sea, immersing himself until he can walk, then observe the situation around him. The ring of ships is an obstacle to his urge to obey the Monarch's call. He knows he needs to create a gap between the ships for them to swim past undisturbed. Something he has never attempted before. But never before was a command to rampage from Daitatsu heard so clearly.

He raises both powerful arms high up, leaning his massive armored torso back, then swings them with all his might down to hit the water in front of him in the direction of the ships, repeatedly, until his movement is a terrible blur of scales and splashing waves.
