Nighttime at the Azorean International Kaiju Sanctuary.

Doubling as a nature preserve and prison for the world's largest monsters, the Azores sit in the bosom of the Atlantic Ocean almost a thousand miles from any human populated areas. This volcanic island chain of nine islands boasts a variety of terrain - from subtropical forests, pasturelands, and volcanic fields, to mountains, black sand beaches, and windswept seaside cliffs. The largest island in the archipelago serves as the abode for a majority of the Sanctuary's residents. Known as São Miguel Island to the Portuguese, that name has been mostly retired in favor of the more popular name, "Monster Island". Here, the kaiju are spread fairly evenly across the island's more than 287 square miles of space, each having claimed a chunk of land for themselves. A few of the more reclusive kaiju, particularly those that don't mind taking a swim, have staked their territory on the other Azorean islands such as Pico, Terceida, Faial, and Santa Maria. The sea floor around the islands drops off quickly not far from the shore, providing plenty of depth for ocean-going kaiju to move around in the local waters.

Most of the human towns and structures that once dotted São Miguel have long been flattened or overtaken by nature. Ironically, the absence of humans has done much to replenish the ecology of the island, despite its colossal, earth-shattering inhabitants. Only the occasional standing ruin or crumbling road still protrudes here and there - a sobering reminder that the Azores was once home to almost a quarter of a million people. Still, humanity's presence hasn't completely withdrawn. Even the least intelligent of the kaiju on Monster Island seems cognizant of the fact that the Sanctuary is, more or less, a prison to hold them. Far in the distance, several miles from shore, the faint lights of the U.N. international flotilla can be glimpsed floating in the darkness, forming a blockade that encircles the island. Although these lights once prompted the kaiju into battles with the KTF, most of the Sanctuary's residents have come to associate the lights with the arrival of metal giants that serve the humans. Likewise, the offshore weapon batteries have done their share of damage to the island's inhabitants.

On a clear night like tonight, a survey of Monster Island reveals nothing unusual from any other night. The island's lush green forests blanket most of the region, broken only by towering black shapes silhouetted against the moonlight. Given their size, it's easy to mistake these motionless black forms for small mountains or rocky outcroppings in the distance... until they slowly begin to lumber through the landscape. Sounds produced by inhuman vocal chords pierce the nighttime silence and echo across the island. Large splashes in the ocean off of the coast hint at massive "things" moving beneath the waves. Fire and smoke arise from Kirashaku's territory as the kaiju uses its flame breath to cook a beached whale before dragging it inland. The insectoid kaiju called Lepidoptera has taken to the sky; its colossal luminous forewings blotting out part of the moon like a butterfly-shaped lunar eclipse. And at the westernmost portion of the island, coming from within a flooded volcanic caldera, a pale blue glow marks the nesting place of Daitatsu, the Monarch of Monsters. Most kaiju instinctively understand to give the Great Dragon's territory a wide berth.

Yet tonight, your kaiju feel a sudden pull to head toward Daitatsu. Regardless of what you're doing - whether hunting, or resting, or roaring challenges to a rival - you feel the inexplicable, subconscious impulse to approach the western part of Monster Island. Your entire sentai seems to receive this call, and so you begin to move in Daitatsu's direction. Land trembles, waters roil, and hurricane-force winds churn as you make your way to the caldera.
OOC:
Take a moment to introduce and describe your kaiju, and maybe what it was doing prior to the Call.

Remember that roleplaying is going to be a bit unusual in this game. Your characters can't really communicate verbally with each other, so no monologues or conversations. You need to rely on body language, vocalizations, and actions to speak for you. Assume that your characters can understand each other and convey very basic messages. By basic, I mean a single word, such as "hungry," "attack," "hurt," "leave," "danger," "humans," etc. You can usually convey emotions very easily. What you can't do is communicate complex messages with one another (so no developing complicated battle strategies, for instance). These limitations partly reflect your characters' not-quite human-level intelligence, as well as the difficulties of cross-species communication.

When trying to communicate something to other players, describe your actions and then feel free to explain exactly what your character means. Alternately, don't explain if you'd rather leave your actions open to interpretation by the other players.

The roleplaying limitations for this game may be a little challenging, but I also think it'll be an interesting experiment.

Omukade is belligerent, or more than usual. The two-headed megapede skitters, it's bulging egg sac raised proudly into the air behind her. As the eggs develop, she's become more and more anxious for a nesting site, but there is no safe place on the island. Her young would likely become food for the other kaiju, and she cannot fight them all.

She is trying to scratch a pit into a cliff wall when the call comes. Perched a hundred yards above jagged rocks pounded by surf, her left head looks up, then at the right head. They both shrug, and give up the attempted manufacture of a safe nest. She moves upward up the rocky cliff, her many legs easily grasping the seemingly smooth surface.

Taclydus soars above the island scoping the canopy for food. His white fur ruffles in the wind as he flies. His wings, bat-like skin that stretches between his arms and upper legs, allow him to glide at a height that keeps him relatively safe from other Kaiju.

At this point, he feels the call to go West. He swoops down and begins to slow to a leisurely glide just above the canopy abandoning the search for food. Eyes staring westward toward Daitatsu's territory.

Panghol is dozing in a cozy hollow that he dug far below one of the many rocky outcrops of the island. By now, his burrowing has created a network of tunnels he uses to travel from one spot to another on the island. The entry points are smaller than the other Kaiju, as he dug them curled into a scaly ball. This grants his tunnels a defensive function.
Panghol is still exploring the depths of this island: if it has to become his lair for the near future, he needs to adapt to its features, find the best hunting grounds and resting shelters.

A sudden change in the underground vibrations causes his massive armored head to uncurl and raise. This is a new occurrence, an irresistible summon that unsettles him and urges him to follow it to its source.

He drops from the hollow and rolls in the direction of the call, choosing existing tunnels and occasionally digging new ones as he follows the reverberating call through the bowels of the island.

OOC:
May I do some inner exposition with my sapience? :P (I will keep it to actions and basic telepathy for actual communication. Unless we get to chat with humans, then I want to be a drawing octopus-squid.)
Enjoying coldness of the night, with his pale long-limbed body floating just below the ocean surface, Straj watches. His multiple amber eyes peer at the far away lights of human ships, observing them with rapt attention, barely blinking or changing focus. The squid-like kaiju is just close enough to make out movement of people on the warships, his unnaturally sharp vision allowing him to sate his curiosity even against water, darkness and distance. It is a privilege, in a way, to be allowed so close to the flotilla, and the kaiju uses it to its fullest, entertaining himself by watching humans.

Yet even as he watches, Straj's tentacles fold and unfold against themselves, itching to grab, wrap around or simply touch something. The humans are endlessly fascinating, but the kaiju knows not to approach the warships any closer than he already did, and there is a limit to how much he can learn from afar. In his mind, Straj wishes for something new, eyes darting towards the island in the distance. A new kaiju, a new human, a new puzzle - a new something to entertain his thirst for knowledge.

And then, he chirps in confusion; a weird impulse, a distant subconscious call from the Great Dragon pulls at him. He can't resist this summon, and the giant squid dives, propelling himself back towards the Monster Island. And while he swims, Straj wonders at this new development, his tentacles glowing in agitation and excitement both. What does Daitatsu wish from him, and how is she sending this call?

OOC:
@Straj,

Since you have the "Fully Sapient" racial ability, most the the restrictions mentioned above don't apply to you. Your character can communicate at a roughly human level of complexity. You can even communicate with humans if you have the right language skill. You can easily serve as an interpreter between kaiju and humans, or between different kaiju in your own group.
All of you make the nighttime trek across Monster Island to reach the home of Daitatsu.

For the flyers and swimmers, the journey is uneventful. Only a few kaiju are capable of going airborne, and they tend to avoid each other's airspace. Aside from Taclydus, the only other flyer currently in the sky in Lepidoptera. The gigantic butterfly kaiju is perhaps one of the least aggressive monsters on the island. As she sees you approaching, she moves north to give you a wide berth. It's a clear gesture of deference, as though to say "...I don't want any trouble..."

Likewise for Straj, the only other kaiju that predominantly lives in the waters around Monster Island is Fringehead. However, the bellicose leviathan typically spends much of its time sleeping in a bay at the northern side of the island, so swimming along the south coast is a safe and easy journey.

For the land-based kaiju, the trip to the western tip of the island is barely a hour's walk, probably less depending on where you are when you receive the Call. It's a quiet night; at the moment, the only sounds are your own thunderous footsteps. Swathes of forest jolt and shake with each passing footfall. As you travel westward, the island's picturesque scenery changes from woodlands and empty fields to rolling hills and small mountains dotted with the occasional lake or pond. The trip to Daitatsu's nest forces you to skirt uncomfortably close to the territories of a number of other residents in the Sanctuary... some of whom are known for their hostility toward their fellows.

You trudge along the edge of the the laurel woods claimed by the kaiju known as Razorback, and the sound of rocky grinding grows louder as you approach. The massive ankylosauroid boar can be seen sharpening its tusks against a mountainside with swift, punishing thrusts. At your passing, the kaiju stops and watches; its eyes reflecting the moonlight not unlike a cat. Razorback shifts its armored, bristle-clad body in your direction and lowers its head, pawing aggressively at the ground with its hooves as though readying to charge. Ultimately though, the kaiju takes no action other than staring you down. Why he doesn't attack, who can say? Perhaps the monster also heard the Call and knows better than to interfere.

Further on, you walk near the hunting grounds of Tsuchigumo, which is obvious from the thick webs of spider silk that coat the surrounding terrain like a delicate white blanket. You glimpse its burrow in the distance, and the giant spider scuttles to the entrance in order to observe your passing with its many dead black eyes. Only its head, thorax, and a few spindly legs are visible; the rest of its bulbous body remains out of view. The kaiju's fang-like chelicerae are continuously moving, and the fresh bones scattered in front of its burrow seem to indicate that the creature just finished a meal. Most likely one of the large mammals that the humans regularly place on the island as foodstuff for the inhabitants.

The territory claimed by Nachtmacher is carefully patrolled by its resident kaiju - at least during the night - and the nocturnal superspecies dromaeosaur quickly makes his presence known when you get too close. Although seemingly hesitant to start a fight, the lightning-spewing mega-raptor also brooks no encroachment into his home turf. With quick, agitated movements, the kaiju paces back and forth along what he perceives to be the edge of his land, inadvertently smashing trees aside with his wildly thrashing tail. He chirps and growls at you. Like a tesla coil, split-second arcs of electricity periodically crackle across his inky black skin. The air smells of smoke and ozone. Nachtmacher anxiously taps his sickle-like toe claws against the ground and guards his territory with manic vigilance until you've moved far passed it.

Eventually, the terrain gives way to basaltic lava fields. You begin to see billowing steam vents and bubbling hot springs that hint at the volcanism below the earth. You approach the mountainous caldera claimed by Daitatsu and scale its sloped side. By now, the pale blue glow emanating from within the crater is many times brighter than the light of the Moon. Upon reaching the summit or flying above it, you see the nest of the Great Dragon. Known as the "Caldeira das Sete Cidades" to the original human inhabitants of São Miguel, the caldera is over three and a half miles across. Once covered in lush green foliage, the plant life within the caldera is mostly dead; killed off by Daitatsu's radioactivity. The long dormant stratovolcanic crater is largely flooded, and a shallow lake sits at its base. At the center of the crater lake is a small islet. In actuality, the islet seems to be little more than a mound of dirt rising from the water. And resting on the islet, partially buried in the dirt, is the splotchy white egg roughly the size of an automobile.
OOC:
@Straj, the caldera is right next to the sea, so you can quickly cross the summit and get into the lake. It won't require staying out of the water for long.
[ +- ] Picture of the caldera in real life
And then there's Daitatsu herself. At six-hundred feet tall, the Monarch of Monsters is imposing, to say the least. She is easily twice the height of even the largest kaiju in your sentai. Her reptilian body is vaguely humanoid in shape; she's bipedal, but that's generally where such comparisons to humanity end. As her nickname suggests, the Great Dragon anatomically resembles popular depictions of a Western mythological dragon. She sports a long snout with a colossal incisor-filled maw wide enough to swallow kaiju at the smaller end of the size scale. Her tail is sinuous yet powerful; hundreds of feet long and capable of leveling skyscrapers with a hard swipe. Her hands and feet end in claws the length of semi-trailers, and a row of vicious-looking spines and jagged upright plates adorn her back, running from the base of the head to the tip of the tail. A pair of membranous wings, boasting a wingspan of nearly a quarter of a mile when spread, are folded at rest along the monster's sides. Perhaps the most notable trait possessed by Daitatsu, however, is her glow: a pulsing blue light that steadily leaks from her body. The light is eerie but too soft to blind. It emanates from the minute spaces between scales, from the edges of her dorsal osteoderms, and from the depths of her throat. Its as though the kaiju's abdomen is housing a small blue star and just barely containing its energy.

You find Daitatsu relaxing in the lake at the bottom of the crater, and her massive form is huddled protectively around the egg. Given her great size, the shallow lake is little more than a puddle to the kaiju. Her glow illuminates the water, making it glisten like an emerald and casting dancing lights along the inside of the caldera. At your arrival, the Monarch of Monsters lifts is titanic head in your direction, and her slitted reptilian eyes fix on you. You catch the glow of blue fire churning behind her eyeballs. Daitatsu rises to her feet cautiously so as not to disturb the egg. Her casual, unhurried manner indicates that she was expecting you. The Great Dragon's muscles are like coiled steel, rippling as she moves and encased in a scaly bluish-green hide that can shrug off most kaiju attacks with the same ease that kaiju can shrug off most human attacks.

Once you have all arrived, the Monarch of Monsters belts out a roar. Not an aggressive vocalization, but one of warning. It translates roughly to "Danger."

OOC:
In terms of communicating with humans, I don't have any language skills and I also wrote in my bio that I have no organs to mimic speech - but can I use drawings to communicate? Tentacles are good for grabbing brushes! :P ...Actually, I probably need Tool User for that. How about telepathy then?
Straj approaches the caldera from the coastline, pulling himself on the beach and scuttling between the treeline and over the summit to reach the water. He pauses at the edge of the lake, tentacles dipping into it while the squid inspects the surrounding, amber eyes looking in all directions save for the one he came from. He looks around with gleeful delight, happy to visit the area usually out of his reach, and his pupils dilate wildly as Straj stares at Daitatsu, drinking in the sight of the majestic - and intriguing - kaiju.

Straj is somewhat concerned about the lake's radioactivity, but eventually his curiosity wins over, and the squid slides into the water. He clearly itches to move forward, tentacles reaching towards the islet, but doesn't dare to approach and seem like a threat to the Great Dragon's egg. So instead he opts for extending one tentacle from the water and wrapping it around whichever member of his sentai is the closest.

He perks up when Daitatsu lets out a marvellous roar of warning. Danger? Danger means something new! Straj doubts that humans are the ones causing the mighty Monarch of Monsters concern, and it's unlikely to be other kaijus. Then what? The squid chirps in what clearly translates to excitement, his tentacles flailing around him and trying to pull at other kaijus in a call to action. "Explore!" - Straj's telepathy sings at whoever he is touching.

Upon the warning from Daitatsu, Taclydus soars high into the air as fast as he can. High enough that he can just make out the edges of the caldera on every side and a little beyond. Scanning the horizons, he doesn't know what the danger is but he wants to be ready and see it, before it sees him.

Taclydus decides to patrol the skies, screeching down at all other Kaiju he sees gliding through the skies in a small circle just to the west of Daitatsu and her egg.

He can see Straj as he enters the lake, Taclydus eyes the squid suspiciously but something tells him he is not the threat that he is here to help with. His attention returns to the horizon, deciding to be vigilant looking outward for danger.
OOC:
Would a "Notice" roll be appropriate here to see if I can notice what danger is in the area?

The multi headed megapede perches on the rim of the volcano. She examines the caldera with some envy. It's highly protected from all but the flyers. Still, the sentai all arrived with little difficulty so it isn't great. She'll need to keep looking.

When the Great Dragon roars, she understands that it isn't about them being near to her nest. There is something else bothering the Monarch of Monsters, a threat to her and to the sentai.

While they don't trust each other implicitly, her group of kaiju have rallied together before, providing protection to each other from other kaiju or sentai.

She shooters sideways on the rim, one head looking away for signs of this danger. The other swings from the dragon to the others, a questioning look in her insectoid face.

Panghol feels the heat of the Lair of the mighty Monarch even before seeing it. The underground layers are warmed by the lava flowing to the great caldera. He emerges by the volcano and climbs to the crater, mesmerized by the glow emanating from it. It is the first time that he has come in such close proximity. He reaches the top to behold the Monarch in all its intimidating majesty, the vast wings framing its head.
FlyingSucculent says:

Straj is somewhat concerned about the lake's radioactivity, but eventually his curiosity wins over, and the squid slides into the water. He clearly itches to move forward, tentacles reaching towards the islet, but doesn't dare to approach and seem like a threat to the Great Dragon's egg. So instead he opts for extending one tentacle from the water and wrapping it around whichever member of his sentai is the closest.
"Explore!" - Straj's telepathy sings at whoever he is touching.
He notices a familiar giant creature emerging from the water near him, he has seen it before and they fought side by side. He knows it is not hostile, its focus also on the Great Dragon. Panghol is startled as the creature's tentacles touch him, but feels no threat. Then his mind is pervaded by a warning of danger from the Dragon, then by a vivid thought from the aquatic creature. But what could the Monarch be scared of?
He rotates his scaly head to look at the Giant Squid, then at the other mighty Kaiju gathered around the crater, all companions in past struggles against dangerous hostile giants inhabiting this island.

OOC:
@ Taclydus, go ahead and make a Notice roll.

For those of you that are new to the Savage Worlds system, Taclydus is making a "Trait roll". A Trait roll is a Skill or Attribute check. In this case, Taclydus is rolling for his Notice skill. Each Trait has a die value associated with it. For Taclydus, his Notice skill is at d6 so that's what he's rolling, plus any modifiers from Edges, Hindrances, or Racial Abilities.

Trait rolls benefit from what's called a "Wild Die." This is an extra d6 that accompanies every Trait roll. Take the highest of the Trait die or the Wild Die. Consequently, Taclydus will be rolling 2d6. One is his Trait die and the other is his Wild Die.

The Target Number for Trait rolls is always 4. A result of 4 or better means success.

Trait rolls and damage rolls can "Ace." This is when you roll the highest number possible on a die, before modifiers (a 4 on a d4, a 6 on a d6, etc.). When you Ace, you get to roll the die again and add it to the total. You can continue rolling as long as you keep Acing. Any modifiers should be applied after adding up an Aced roll.

Every 4 points over the Target Number is called a "Raise." So if you need a 4 to succeed on a roll, and you get a 12, that counts as two Raises. Raises sometimes provides additional benefits to a roll, or sometimes you just need to know how successful a Trait roll was.

Added notice roll in original post. Thanks for the reupping on the rules. I think the hardest part of a new system for me is "when to roll". Looks like a failed haha
Sep 16, 2020 7:35 am
OOC:
we have to remember to tick the checkbox "Reroll Aces" on each die of the Trait roll. So the Wild Die can ace, and the Skill die can ace too. I usually roll them separately on GP, so I can tick both checkboxes. Super easy to forget, though...

@Taclydus

At Daitatsu's suggestion of danger, you take to the nighttime sky and search for any obvious threats. You see the lights of the warships in the distance, but nothing else catches your attention. Beyond the island and the ships is just the endless expanse of ocean.
Daitatsu shifts her gaze around to each of you. She eyes Straj, making certain the cephalopod kaiju isn't getting too close to her egg, and then gazes up at those of you surmounting the caldera's summit. She exhales through her flared nostrils, and each exhalation unleashes what humans would measure as gale force winds.

The Great Dragon begins producing an odd chuffing sound; a deep gurgling from the base of her throat. The kaiju makes a series of head-bobbing and neck-stretching movements that are vaguely reminiscent of a bird about to feed its young. Her throat dilates and constricts repeatedly, and you see the outline of a bulge as is moves up her esophagus. After a full minute of this, Daitatsu lowers her head and opens her vast, toothy maw. She regurgitates the contents of her stomach: foamy stomach acid along with something large and partially digested. The mystery object falls onto the ground at the edge of the lake.

From each of your vantage points, you are quick to discern that its a detached head - a kaiju head, given the size. The flesh is somewhat liquified and digested away, and you see clear patches of brain without a skull. However, you're still able to make out some of the features it had in life: orange connective tissue like that of an octopus or cuttlefish, the remnant of lidless eyes, leaky pigment sacs, and bits of a rigid material similar to shell or carapace. Your powerful olfactory senses can still smell the creature; the odor is pungent and fishy like most things from the sea. More surprisingly, however, is that you each see and smell pieces of metal fused to the monster's flesh.

The Monarch of Monsters gives the malformed kaiju head a lingering look of disdain and glances at all of you again. She emits a deep rumbling growl, and the sound is intense enough to vibrate the surface of the lake around her. Even without words, her message is clear... she views this creature - whatever it was - as a threat. All of you have lived with the Great Dragon for years on the island and understand that she rarely considers anything a threat. Rival, certainly... the Monarch of Monsters has had her share of rivalries with other kaiju, and often provoked the humans out of rage or sport. But the notion of her regarding something to be a threat, as though it actually poses a danger to her existence, is alarming. Ever since she'd laid her egg, Daitatsu had noticeably grown more careful and reclusive. You could all smell that some of the kaiju on the island were beginning to wonder if their alpha was becoming weak...

What was the monster? None of you have ever seen its kind in the Sanctuary. Had it traveled here? There was a shared understanding among the giant residents of the island that something was happening in the world. The source of the feeling was unclear, but all of the kaiju felt it... a sort of constant unease. Many of the monsters were more agitated than normal, and fights between the kaiju were occurring more often. It was not unlike the stress response that some of the more territorial kaiju display when their territory is being invaded by an enemy.

Daitatsu points her head toward the horizon and makes a sharp flick of the snout, urging you to leave this place. Not the caldera, specifically. The island. She motions beyond the lights of the warships, and you get the sense she's indicating the human-held mainland across the ocean. She then indicates the human blockade surrounding the Sanctuary, roars defiantly in the flotilla's direction, and looks at all of you. Her massive clawed foot comes down on the decomposing head and crushes it with a wet splatter. Looking around, Daitatsu waits to see if any of you are brazen enough to challenge her authority.

Old instincts come to the fore. The Monarch of Monsters wants you to go on the hunt. Kill more of these creatures. They are a threat. Don't let the humans stop you. Rampage.
Sep 18, 2020 3:12 pm
Straj chirps excitedly at the perspective of discovering new fascinating creatures - with metal parts, almost a hybrid between kaiju and mechs, isn't it fascinating, - but the tone of his chittering quickly turns anxious when Daitatsu roars towards the ocean, and more specifically, the human fleet. The squid swirls around itself in agitation, and his tentacles shoot out towards the other summoned kaiju that he can reach, trying to wrap around Panghol and Omukade.

"Hide-move," the squid's thoughts he is sending towards them are uncharacteristically sharp, with the only emotion accompanying them being worry. "Avoid humans. No attack." His amber eyes glance towards the Monarch of Monsters, and the squid shrinks a little on himself, before quickly pulling back from the water, hastily moving through the trees to reach the coastline. He dives back into the ocean, swimming towards the warships immediately. Straj guesses that the other kaiju will follow the shortest route as well, and he glances sometimes upwards, trying to see the great shadows of Boiuna or Taclydus gliding over the water.

The squid surfaces dangerously close to the stationed fleet, raising his tentacles and trying to wave at humans in some sort of warning. Sure, they imprisoned the kaiju - and Straj himself isn't very fond of that fact, - but he remembers the science people that brought him puzzles and interesting things to look at, and he doesn't want them gone. Humans don't usually understand him, but surely this will help them notice four giant kaijus coming in their direction? With luck, they'll let them pass...
OOC:
He is trying. I don't think I have any skills for this, but I can do untrained Smarts maybe?
...I did take a Human Approved perk for "marine-related professions". I imagine it includes the fleet, though I was originally thinking about marine biologists. XD

A bit unrelated, but can Burrowing work underwater? Like on ocean floor?

Taclydus, knowing instantly what he must do immediately flies as high as he can. Rising fast at first, as the air pressure drops and temperatures cool he begins to slow and circle slightly to continue climbing. The horizon growing and the world below shrinking as he rises. As he reaches the limits of his heights he can just make out the island and flotilla below, he knows he must go as high as possible to escape the war ships.
OOC:
I am going to take it that in order to hit the highest possible height it will be quite taxing so maybe an athletics roll? for the record I am not attempting to break the line just yet just flying super high

@Straj,

You can communicate telepathically with humans, so lack of speech organs isn't a problem. However, you'll need at least a d4 in a human language skill to intelligibly communicate with them (this is something you can always take in the future). You can communicate somewhat well with other kaiju in your sentai, but your mind is still a little too alien for humans to understand you clearly, and vice versa. For the moment, human verbal communication probably strikes you as strange and indecipherable.

You have Human Approved for kaijuologists/marine biologists, and there are definitely some on the warships working as civilian specialists. They are aware that Straj is particularly intelligent, though you haven't worked out a clear means of speaking with them yet. The scientists will likely keep the military from firing on you, but that can't be said for the other kaiju in your sentai.

You'd need the Tool User racial ability to use writing implements.

As far as burrowing through the ocean floor, it's possible. However, the Burrowing ability (like what Panghol can do), is intended for digging through regolith (loose soil, sand, and stone) and not solid rock. I'm fine with a burrower being able to dig through solid rock, as well, but it would be very slow-going. It'd say that digging speed through rock would be about 1/10th Pace. That's roughly 4 miles per hour (6.58 kph) for a kaiju with Pace 6" KS.

To move at normal burrowing speed, a burrower would have to stick to the uppermost layer of the ocean floor, which is unconsolidated sediment. If you go deeper than 0.4 km/0.25 miles, you hit bedrock. The problem is that, with the weight of the water above it, tunnels dug through sediment will immediately collapse and the burrower would suffocate or get crushed by the pressure. Consequently, to successfully burrow beneath the ocean, a burrower would need to dig directly through the bedrock. But again, this would be a very slow process, especially if you are trying to dig across the span of the ocean.

@Straj,

Yes, if you want to try to communicate with the humans, it'll be an "unskilled attempt". Roll a d4 at -2. Don't forget to also roll your Wild Die, which also gets the -2 penalty. As long as one of those dice gets a 4 or higher, you succeed. Both rolls can still Ace.

I'm not sure if I ever specified it, but I wanted my telepathy to be touch-based, since having general telepathy seems kinda overpowered. (...is it overpowered for a kaiju?) And I doubt they will let me to swim closer for that; even if, I don't really have any idea what thought I can send that would be interpreted as "let these kaiju pass, we're going to fight aliens".

But they do still see a giant squid frantically waving at them, right? They can't say I didn't try. XD

Panghol feels the urgency of Daitatsu's command, and roars in deference, a low rumble that shakes his scales from deep inside. He looks at the other kaiju, then turns away from the caldera and begins the descent towards the coast.

Once on the seaside, he spots Straj waving his tentacles at the strange human contraptions floating around the island. He knows they can sting with their cowardly attacks from afar. Maybe the squid is attempting to distract the humans' attention?

He will keep walking as he reaches the sea, immersing himself until he can walk, then observe the situation around him. The ring of ships is an obstacle to his urge to obey the Monarch's call. He knows he needs to create a gap between the ships for them to swim past undisturbed. Something he has never attempted before. But never before was a command to rampage from Daitatsu heard so clearly.

He raises both powerful arms high up, leaning his massive armored torso back, then swings them with all his might down to hit the water in front of him in the direction of the ships, repeatedly, until his movement is a terrible blur of scales and splashing waves.

Omukade doesn't swim or fly or burrow. She looks at the beach and at the crushed metal creature. She skitters sideways a few times then hisses and moves down the cliffs off the caldera rim. Getting to the ground, she slides through the jungle, below tree height. Her huge body wings it's easy through, trampling brush but not disturbing the trees meaningfully.

When she gets to the beach, and sees Panghol splashing, she moves beside him, hissing at the water, waiting to see what will happen, or the water to calm so that she can swim.

Straj

You swim out toward the naval blockade. Before you can reach the warships, however, you need to bypass the first line of containment measures established by your human wardens.

Around Monster Island is a ring of platforms that look very similar to offshore oil rigs. These platforms are placed several miles from shore, where they rise from the water like artificial islands of concrete and steel. From beneath the water, you can see that they are fixed to the sea floor by sets of massive pylons. The platforms are miles apart, and built upon each one is a sensor station and weapon batteries. You know these weapons are loud and shoot far, since you've witnessed them used on kaiju that have previously attempted jail breaks. The weapons can rotate and adjust in order to fire on airborne monsters. The platforms are also equipped with projectiles that swim through the water and explode at a touch; the humans save those for kaiju who try to attack the platforms from below. A mile or so beyond the weapon platforms are the warships that form the blockade.

Over the years, you've noted that the humans seem a little more comfortable with you than your fellow kaiju. Unlike the other residents of Monster Island, you are often permitted to swim passed the weapon platforms, though you still aren't allowed close to the warships. On some occasions, humans in white coats even take small boats out from the main ships and meet you in the local waters, using the opportunity to study and interact with you. You're quite certain that these humans in white coats, combined with your good behavior, are the reason the less-friendly humans tolerate your proximity.

As you swim to the weapon platforms, spotlights activate and swivel to shine down at the surface of the water. Likewise, an underwater light array attached to the legs of the platform illuminates the nearby depths. Somehow, even when you swim deep, the humans always know that you're approaching. You are able to pass the weapons platform unmolested, though it's clear that they are watching you.

You move toward the warship that's closest to you. At almost 500 ft. (152.4 m) long, the warship is several times your size. It looms out of the ocean like a kaiju in its own right; its weapons perpetually pointed toward Monster Island. The side of the ship has a colorful design, which is noteworthy because it contrasts with the gunmetal gray that characterizes that rest of the vessel. The design depicts a red cross on a white background, and the upper left quadrant has another red cross punctuated by additional lines of red, white, and blue.
[ +- ] Design

You close the distance and begin waving your tentacles frantically. In response, the ship's spotlights turn to face you, and their beams converge at your location on the surface of the water. The lights are somewhat blinding and uncomfortable. At about 1,000 ft. (304.8 m) from the vessel, some of its gun turrets adjust their arc and rotate, training themselves on your position. It's your warning not to get any closer. On the deck of the warship, a number of uniformed humans have gathered and are watching your unusual display of activity. It seems as though they're trying to determine if your gestures are threatening or not. You are not able to make out much else.

OOC:
You succeeded on your Athletics roll with a Raise, so the ascent doesn't tire you too badly.
Upon leaving the island, you immediately fly straight upward rather than across the water. You know from past experience that the humans release volleys of projectiles that can fly through the air and travel a great distance. Some of them can even follow a flying kaiju and explode on impact! Though the strange weapons are rarely capable to killing a giant monster, sometimes they do enough damage to disable a wing. Consequently, you know to stick to the heavens and go as high as possible. Even the weapons of the humans have their limits.

You soar ever higher into the nighttime sky until even the clouds are far below you, providing a blanket of cover.

Taclydus hovers above the island and world below. Flying in small circles at such a great height makes him feel like he can travel the entire planet without a care but he knows he must be smart. Preparing for his break, Taclydus continues to fly in a circle faster and faster trying to get as much of a running start that he can before he fires into the direction of the blockade.

His goal, go as fast as possible above the blockade keeping eyes out for any weapon fire he may need to dodge.

I am assuming there may be a check needed here soon. I figure max pace at max height might be a tough target for the ships.

Straj's multiple eyes all squint against the blinding light humans are shining at him, and the squid chirps in expression of discomfort, submerging back under the surface - just a few of his tentacles stay outside of water. It doesn't help much against the light, unfortunately, with the spotlights too strong to be negated by such insignificant depth.

Seeing the humans' general inaction despite what is happening, Straj starts waving even more furiously. He attempts to imitate the shooing gesture he saw humans in white coats do sometimes, and even outright points back at the shore, where Omukade and Panghol are lingering. His tentacles flair frantically in rapid gesticulation.

So each of you have three Bennies. A Benny can be cashed in for the following effects:

„ REROLL A TRAIT: Bennies grant a hero a reroll on any Trait, and best of all, you get to keep the best total from all your rolls. The only exception is a Critical Failure, which ends the attempt and must be accepted. Such is the price of tempting fate!

„ RECOVER FROM SHAKEN: This is instant and may be done at any time, even interrupting another’s actions if desired.

„ SOAK ROLLS: Bennies can also be used to prevent Wounds or recover from being Shaken.

„ DRAW A NEW ACTION CARD: When the game is in rounds, a character can spend a Benny to get a new Action Card. This occurs after all cards are dealt and Edges or Hindrances like Quick, Level Headed, or Hesitant are resolved. Then players or the GM may spend Bennies for an additional card as many times as they like and take their choice of all their draws. Edges like Quick or Level Headed do not apply to these additional cards drawn with Bennies. This continues until everyone (including the GM) passes. Then the round begins and no further cards may be drawn.

„ REROLL DAMAGE: You may spend a Benny to reroll damage. Include any additional dice you may have gained for a raise on the attack roll.

„ REGAIN POWER POINTS: A character with an Arcane Background can spend a Benny to regain 5 Power Points.

„ INFLUENCE THE STORY: This one is entirely up to the Game Master, who may allow your character to spend a Benny to find an additional clue if you’re stuck, come up with some mundane but needed item, or push a nonplayer character into being a bit more agreeable.

Bennies give players some increased agency over the game. Normally, players get three Bennies per session. However, since this game is PbP and not operating by sessions, I will be replenishing bennies periodically, as well as awarding them to players for exceptional roleplaying posts or really clever ideas.

@Straj, feel free to spend a benny if you want to re-roll the Smarts roll.

Panghol & Straj

Panghol begins to employ his great size and mass in an effort to disrupt the warships with large waves. You begin moving into the sea, splashing around and trying to displace millions of gallons of water in the direction of the blockade. You watch as the water rolls away from you and toward the warships, picking up size and speed.

Being miles away, the warships don't initially notice anything in the darkness. However, Straj, you feel the turbulence that's coming. As the humans are on the deck of the ship observing your activities, you hear what sounds like a a trill klaxon sounding throughout the warship. The crew immediately scatter in a panic and rush to their stations. The humans clearly understand something is happening, and you can hear the underwater reverberations as the ship begins hoisting up its mighty anchor.

The vessel starts trying to turn its bow in the starboard direction to face the island, but the waves come too soon. You see large rolling waves emerge from the night and buffet the side of the warship. The waves don't seem to be especially damaging, since they've traveled miles from the island and have lost some of their energy. Still, the series of 20 ft. (6.096 m) waves are enough to violently rock the vessel back and forth. You see crew stumble and fall, and water surges across the lowest points on the deck. Yet, the ship remains steady, and its naval guns commence rotating forward toward the island.

Taclydus

You've lowered your altitude in order to better view events on the water, and your flying in fast circles overhead. You can see that Straj has approached the closest warship in the blockade, which is shining lights at him. The ship has begun turning to face the island but is being buffeted by waves originating from the shoreline. Panghol and Omukade are standing at the shore, while Boiuna is still in the caldera, peeking out beyond the summit. You can see movement happening on the closest weapon platform; it seems to be focusing its weaponry on the island. Meanwhile, there is also activity with the other warships. Each vessel in the blockade is miles apart, but you see the nearest ships to the left and right are beginning to react.

I'll do two actions, with Calculating cancelling the multi-action penalty on the first one. For the second action, I'd like to look around to survey the situation (basically, to see what Taclydus sees, however limited it will be without advantage of height).
Deciding to at least attempt to minimalize the damage done to both sides, Straj dives deeper, swimming towards the weapon platforms. His gaze pierces the darkness of the ocean looking for any vulnerabilities in the structure, trying to figure out how he can impede weapon's aiming or even disable them altogether. The squid doesn't wish to harm humans, but neither he feels happy about them shooting at other kaiju, especially ones that are more or less friendly towards him.

He hovers in the water near one of the platforms, tentacles swirling and interweaving in agitation, before reaching for the foundation to probe the pylons. His limbs wrap around the metal, poking here and there, while his eyes turn to the surface as Straj tries to keep his attention on what is happening above him, ready to propel himself further into ocean or to assist either side should they be harmed.

Periodically, I will be posting "cut scenes" related to your activities in the game. These scenes will showcase what the humans are up to, or how they are reacting to your kaiju's actions.
The bridge of the HMS Dauntless was a flurry of activity. Midshipmen and other personnel scrambled to man sensor systems and communications, while white-shirted lieutenants hastily coordinated engineering, gunnery, and various other departments over interphones. The Daring-Class Type 45 destroyer was in the process of making a sharp starboard turn on a northward heading to Monster Island, but sudden water turbulence was forcing the helmsman to focus on steadying the vessel. A ship-wide siren was blaring to alert crewmembers to take battle stations. What had previously been a quiet night was now anything but.

Captain Ross stood at the fore of the bridge, staring out through the main window and into the darkness. Sea water sprayed against the glass, and the constant rocking made it difficult to maintain balance. The older gentleman stroked his steel gray beard with stoic, measured movements, giving the simultaneous impression that he was deep in thought but also listening to every single thing occurring on his bridge. Next to him, Commander Chapman was barking orders at one of the blue-shirts manning the comms. The young woman was demanding urgent and immediate support from KTF Command, while also instructing another officer to hail the closest ships in the blockade for assistance. Nearby, Dr. Lessing nervously glanced around the room; he gripped a wall-mounted handhold to keep himself from falling over. The German kaijuologist had yet to develop his sea legs.

As senior naval officers, both Ross and Chapman wore perfectly pleated white shirts and pants, and their shoulders sported black epaulettes with yellow stitching denoting rank insignia. Chapman, the XO, approached the captain. She seemed entirely unfased by the ship's violent rocking motions.

"The USS Ticonderoga and the INS Kolkata are hoisting anchor and currently en route. ETA is six minutes. Satellites have sighted Panghol and Omukade on the western coast of the Sanctuary, and SATCOM believes an outbreak may be imminent. You think Panghol is having a go at us, sir?"

Ross adjusted his cap and shrugged. "It's unclear if he's attacking or playing. What is Straj's current position? I don't care for him being so close to us."

"He was holding at about 300 meters off our starboard side, and then suddenly submerged. Sonar shows him making his way back toward the island," replied the XO.

Dr. Lessing spoke up, raising his voice above the commotion of the bridge. The scientist was out of his white frock and dressed in civilian clothing. He spoke in English, accented but impeccable. "As I've said before, you don't need to be concerned about Straj. He has no history of aggression. If anything, I think he was trying to warn us."

Chapman glowered. "...or distract us while the others try to escape."

Dr. Lessing shook his head, emphatically. "I have personally interacted with Straj several times. He is highly intelligent. I don't believe he is a threat to us."

Ross furrowed his brow and turned to look at the good doctor. "Can they do that? Can the mega-organisms work together?"

The scientist nodded. "Pack oriented behavior has been observed in the kaiju before."

"God help us..." exclaimed Ross, softly. "And what about Taclydus?" The question was directed at his XO.

"He flew to an estimated altitude of nearly 3,000 meters. He's now descended and seems to be maintaining a holding pattern above the island."

The captain chuckled. "Outside the range of our Mark 3 Bloodhounds... clever bird. And what of the caldera?"

"All's quiet with Daitatsu." Chapman's voice had more than a little relief in it.

"Well at least there's that," said Ross.

Suddenly, one of the communications officers bolted from his chair. His hand was pressing a UHF headset to his ear, listening to the comms as he spoke. The commotion on the bridge quieted as everyone turned their attention to the ensign. He gulped and looked at the senior officers. "Sir... SATCOM reports more activity, which has been confirmed by weapon platforms 23 and 24. Nachtmacher and Senshuseki are fleeing the Sanctuary. The Yanks and the Chinese are about to engage them two kilometers off the north coast..."

The bridge went silent with shock; a silence broken by the occasional panicked murmur. Someone could be heard fearfully muttering "Dear God" aloud. Chapman's eyes widened and she looked at the captain. "That many? Have that many kaiju ever attempted to escape at one time?"

Ross took a few precious seconds to steel himself against whatever his inner doubts were telling him, and then addressed his bridge crew. "Enough of that rubbish! You are all officers of the Royal Navy, and I expect you to act like it! We've all trained for this. You know what to do... so do it." Looking at the young ensign on his feet, "Radio Director Tanaka. Tell him that we have a Level 3 Breakout Event in progress, and the flotilla is about to engage multiple mega-organisms. The animals are escaping the zoo." The captain shifted his attention to his XO. "Do we know if any kaiju wranglers are available?"

Chapman shook her head. "I was already on comms with the KTF. Strike Force Europe is shorthanded after Daimyo Dynamo and Tetsujin Epsilon were damaged in the attack on Munich. The giant mecha are on high alert in case of another Protostomion assault. Strike Force Africa is confronting Protostomions off the coast of Johannesburg, but they might be able to spare a few units. Still, they are three hours away at minimum."

The Captain shook his head. "We need a lot more than a few units to contain this. We need several squadrons." Ross looked to Dr. Lessing. "Give me our dossiers on Panghol, Omukade, Taclydus, Straj, and all the others." The kaijuologist nodded and rushed from the bridge.

The British Naval officer turned to address his crew again. "Portugal is less than 1,600 kilometers away. Under no circumstances are any of the residents of the Sanctuary permitted to reach the mainland. For Queen and country..."

Panghol sees the waves his mighty arms caused having little consequence on the humans' metal fishes. He observes the flurry of activity on the platforms. He remembers the sting from their weapons. They are different from the metal fishes. They stand, just like him.
With a look in the sky at the circling Taclydus, he submerges his whole body, holding his breath. He advances with the cover that he thinks the sea affords him, and positions himself in line with the legs of the platform in front.
He knows there is solid ground under the sea, and where there is ground, he can shake it.

He focuses his energy on the seabed, sending a mighty telluric blast in the direction of the platform pillars that anchor it to the ground.

Straj

Underwater lights activate once you approach the platform while submerged. You know that the humans can't use their exploding swimmers on you at this range without also damaging the platform itself. The water isn't very deep: only about 400 ft. (121.92 m). Your tentacles explore the foundations, which are fixed to the sea floor with concrete, but it seems as though each strut goes quite far into the earth. Around you is a maze of pipes and steel girders. Looking at the structure quickly (and having probably studied it in the past), you don't see any way to immediately disable the platform, short of attacking it. You could begin attacking the legs of the platform, though that will require some time and won't prevent the weapons battery on top from firing.

Alternately, you could climb the platform and try to disable or distract the weapons directly; the hope being that you're too close for them to fire.

Being underwater, you are aware of what's happening around you, though that awareness has less to do with your eyes and more to do with underwater vibrations. You feel the powerful engines of the two nearest warships starting up, changing their heading to converge at this location and assist their sister ship. Your tentacles can feel the vibrations of the platform as its weapons batteries power up and start to acquire targets - probably Panghol and Omukade. Taclydus might also be at risk, depending on how low he is flying.
Sep 25, 2020 11:55 pm
Panghol
OOC:
The weapons platform is about a mile (1.6 km) from shore. Swimming speed is 3" per turn, which, at kaiju scale, means you can move 60 yards/meters through the water per turn. It'll take you a little bit of time to get close to the platform.

The platform is beyond the long range of your attack, but it is within extreme range. Since the platform is a stationary target, it doesn't get to Evade. You'd need to get a 4 or higher, but at -8 to hit, it'll be a miss.
You rush into the ocean to take advantage of the water as quickly as possible. You lower your profile into the sea and make a beeline toward the platform, sending one of your telluric earthquake-generating blasts at its feet. Unfortunately, the distance, as well as the intervening ocean, cause the attack to miss its target. You can feel the seabed shake somewhere beneath the waves, but not near the platform's pylons.
OOC:
For players new to Savage Worlds, ranged attacks have four possible range increments: short, medium, long, and extreme. Extreme range is equal to long range x 4.

Remember that kaiju scale applies to all kaiju attacks, so multiply ranges by 20 if you want to know the distance in yards/meters. For most of you with ranged attacks, your range increments are 12/24/48/192". That's 240/480/960/3,840 in yards/meters.

Range modifiers to strike are 0 for short, -2 for medium, -4 for long, and -8 for extreme.

OOC:
@Taclydus

I'm assuming you are at least several thousand feet in the sky; high enough that you are in the extreme range for most of the warship's guns. You won't be able to reach the warship in a turn to bite it, but you can certainly close the distance and use a ranged attack. If you move your full flight Pace (48"), you'll be able to get close enough that the ship is in short range for your attack (so no penalties to hit). However, you'll also be within short range of the ship's weapons.

You can take your Action for the turn at any point during your movement. So you could also fly into medium range for ranged attack, make the attack, and then fly back up.

But for the sake of fun, I'm not going to be very fussy about Ranges and Pace values. As long as an attack range is roughly close enough, or Pace is roughly fast enough, then I'm assuming you can reach the target (or it can reach you).
Sep 26, 2020 1:17 am

OOC:
Yes, you can get to the warship during your turn. Because of your size and tentacles, you can attempt to grapple with the ship. It’s an Athletics roll at +2. The ship can’t oppose your grapple, so as long as you get a 4 or higher, you succeed.

The HMS Dauntless is a Size 18 vehicle. Normally you can’t grapple with anything more than two Size levels bigger than you, but because you have tentacles with a Reach, you can make it happen.

Once you’ve successfully grappled with the ship, you can make an opposed Strength check to try and pull it where you want.

This will be two separate actions, right? So I'm unlikely to do it on one turn with the penalty... Hmm.

I also wanted to ask, tentacle actions - do I have three for each round, or three for the whole battle? I wasn't sure about the wording; maybe I missed it.

PS: maybe we can have an OOC thread for questions?.. XD

I am going to do a Medium Range attack and then swoop back up to Long Range left that description alone until I know the results will edit when I know if I hit

I am actually unsure now if my ranged attack should be athletics due to it being a breathe-like attack? either way it is 1d10 but my intention was shooting on creation

OOC:
My understanding is that you get an action for each tentacle. However for the purposes of determining multi-actions, your tentacle actions collectively count as a single action.

So if you decide to act with each of your three tentacles, and also pull the ship through the water, that'll count as two full actions (meaning you'll get a -2 penalty to all your rolls). Since tentacles grapple at +2, you'd end up rolling at no penalty for each tentacle grapple, and -2 on the Strength check to pull the ship. Hopefully that makes sense.

If you decide to grapple, each tentacle gets an Athletics check, and each tentacle gets a Wild Die.

I'll go ahead and make a rules question thread
Sep 30, 2020 10:37 pm
OOC:
@Taclydus, natural ranged attack use Athletics instead of Shooting.

Since you are using a Cone attack, which is considered a type of Area Effect attack, targets normally need to perform an Evasion action (that's an Agility roll at -2). That's really the only way to escape a successful area effect attack. However, since you are breathing at a big lumbering warship, it's not able to Evade. So all you need to do is get a 4 on the attack roll and you'll hit. Just for future reference.
Taclydus' sonic blast goes wide. The ocean ripples and explodes about a hundred meters off the port side of the HMS Dauntless. A column of water the thickness of a football field erupts into the air. Waves buffet the warship, rocking it back and forth, and water rains down on its deck in torrents.
Oct 1, 2020 9:43 am
Panghol surfaces to catch his breath, like a mountain from a submerged continent suddenly breaking primordial waves.

He dives back down causing rippling waves all around, and starts moving ahead towards the human platforms at the maximum speed he can keep underwater.
OOC:
Guess running underwater is not possible, he will approach as much as he can using all his round. if he ends in long range, he will try a ranged attack too.

Seeing the sentai attacking one of the ships, Omukade decides to join in on the fun. She lobs a poison spray at the deck of the Dauntless and then dives into the water. She's not a swimmer but hopes to heed the mothers request by trying.

The poison glob doesn't hold together well and fails to impact the ship. In the water, she treads on, one head up to see and breathe, like a periscope. Her armor closes up, protecting her from drowning through the skin.

Panghol and Omukade both enter the water and begin making their way toward the HMS Dauntless and the weapons platform. Powered up, the platform's weapon systems appear to consist of large clusters of boxes that fire flying objects designed to explode on impact. Both of you know that these projectiles travel far and have been known to strike kaiju all the way on the island. However, what is more concerning is the parabolic dish that is adjusting to target Panghol. The massive reflector dish, shaped like a vertically-mounted bowl, has a long antenna jutting from its center. The device doesn't fire anything that can be seen by the naked eye, but its effects on the Sanctuary's residents are very real - intense pain and boiling flesh.

The weapon focuses its antenna toward Panghol and emits a loud, high-pitched hum.

At the same time, the HMS Dauntless has turned so its bow is facing the island and its oncoming inhabitants. As Taclydus swoops back up into the sky, the ship's forward missile battery seeks to acquire the giant pteradactyl as its target.
OOC:
Taclydus, give me an Athletics roll. This is to oppose the targeting lock for the missile system. If you win the roll, the missiles won't be able to lock on to you this round.
Meanwhile, the Dauntless' 130mm naval gun has rotated its turret slightly in anticipation of Omukade. The gun roars deafeninigy, leaving a dark cloud of smoke as it fires a shell at the two-headed megapede.

Rolls

MASER blast at Panghol - cone attack, long range for MASER - (1d10-4)

(7) - 4 = 3

Electronics roll to lock missiles on Taclydus - (1d10)

(3) = 3

Shooting roll for naval gun at Omukade - extreme range - (1d10-8)

(5) - 8 = -3

Oct 1, 2020 11:54 pm
OOC:
Holy crap, so those were all horrible rolls on my part. Bad for the humans but good for the kaiju. The MASER blast goes wide and seemingly does nothing. The Dauntless is unable to lock onto Taclydus (no Athletics roll needed from Taclydus. I didn't even roll a 4 so its a fail). And the naval gun misses Omukade, causing the water to explode nearby.

Thats it for me, so its a new round.

It'll be another few rounds before Panghol and Omukade get within melee range of the weapons platform and warship. Unfortunately, running doesn't apply to swimming.

This is Round #2 of combat. Omukade and Panghol will be in melee range of the weapons platform on Round #4, and melee range of the HMS Dauntless on Round #5. I'm fudging the distance a little bit to expedite combat, so it doesn't take 15 rounds to reach your targets.
Oct 2, 2020 10:47 pm
OOC:

Attacking

So for any who are new to Savage Worlds, combat consists of an attack - usually a Shooting, Fighting, or Athletics roll.

For a melee attack, that result is then compared to the defender's Parry stat. An attack roll that is equal to, or greater than, the Parry stat is a successful hit. Every four points over the Parry stat is a Raise. For those without any dice in the Fighting skill, the Parry stat is 2.

For a ranged attack, the Target Number to hit is a 4, modified by a penalty based on the attacker's range (short, medium, long, or extreme). Every four points over 4 is a Raise.

Any attack that results in a Raise provides +1d6 bonus damage to the damage roll. This bonus die can also Ace.

Successful area effect attacks and cone attacks can only be escaped with an "Evade" action. This is an Agility roll at -2. Succeeding on the evasion roll means that the defender takes no damage.

Damage

When damage is rolled, the result is applied against the target's Toughness. If the damage is less than the Toughness, then the target is unharmed. If the damage is equal to, or greater than, the target's Toughness, then the target is "Shaken". Each Raise on the damage roll also inflicts a Wound.

When a character is "Shaken", he or she is essentially stunned and can only perform free actions such as talking or moving (including running). At the start of their next turn, Shaken characters may make a Spirit roll to recover from being Shaken; this roll is a free action. On a success, the character is no longer Shaken and may act normally for that turn. On a failure, the character remains Shaken and may try again to recover next round. Characters can also spend a Benny to immediately eliminate the Shaken condition.

If a character that is already Shaken suffers a second Shaken result from a physical attack, that second Shaken result automatically becomes a Wound.

Each Wound a character suffers causes a cumulative -1 penalty to Pace and all Trait rolls. This Wound penalty caps at a maximum of -3.

Kaiju can take up to six Wounds. Further damage serves to "Incapacitate" the character. Incapacitated characters are at death's door; they are generally unconscious and are unable to perform any actions. Once Incapacitated, the character makes an immediate Vigor roll to avoid dying.

Soak

After rolling damage but before applying Wounds, a character may spend a Benny to make a "Soak" roll. This is a Vigor roll. Each success and Raise reduces the number of Wounds suffered by one. If the character soaks all the Wounds from an attack, he also removes the Shaken condition too. Characters can’t Soak more than once per attack, but may spend Bennies as usual to reroll the Vigor check if they aren’t satisfied with the results.

@Taclydus,

The HMS Dauntless has a Toughness 54 (24). The Armor Piercing of your claws (AP 24) cancels out the ship's 24 points of Armor, leaving 30 Toughness. You rolled a 19, plus 8 from the Aced damage die, plus 4 from the bonus damage you got for the Raise on your attack roll. That puts you at 31 damage - just enough to beat the ship's Toughness.

Normally, this is enough to leave an enemy Shaken. However, vehicles do not suffer from the Shaken condition. Instead, Taclydus' distraction will give the ship a penalty to the remainder of its rolls for this round. So the Dauntless doesn't take damage, but its crew is focused on the giant pteradyctyl on the deck.
Taclydus swoops down to the forward deck of the Dauntless. His massive wings kick up hurricane-force winds as he hovers just above the ship's bow. His talons immediately go to work on the warship's armored missile battery.

Is Panghol swimming at the water's surface, or swimming submerged beneath the water? You can hold your breath for a number of rounds equal to 2 + your Vigor die. So you can easily remain submerged until to reach the weapons platform or the Dauntless.

Straj is very aware of the parabolic dish. You've seen it in action before, and you know all of the weapon platforms are equipped with them. They seem to cause pain rather than leave any lasting damage - the equivalent of kaiju riot control devices.

You feel the vibrations of the weapon system as it hums to life. You have a Reach 3 (180 ft/54.86 m) so your tentacles can easily reach the dish from your location in the water. Your can either grapple with the weapon and force it to point another direction, or you can strike it with your tentacles to damage it.

You’ve never seen any humans on these platforms; they seem to operate by themselves.

Sorry for the delay.
Straj lets out a half-purring, half-chirping sound of frustration as his tentacles fruitlessly slide around the pylons, finding no vulnerabilities to exploit. The vibrations and water torrents caused by what's happening on the surface agitate him further, all of his many pupils dilating wildly. The kaiju is well-aware of the possible ramifications of attempted escape that threaten his companions; and the rampage that threatens humans in return if this fight continues.

With a swift motion, Straj launches himself off the pylon through the sea, diving towards the platform he knows to hold the round weapon that causes immense pain. He saw it in action a few times - the unfortunate kaiju howling in agony and rage, - and the thought of it aiming towards Panghol is highly unpleasant. It pushes the squid to focus on the dish and ignore, albeit hesitantly, the ship and Taclydus exchanging blows behind him.

Three of Straj's tentacles shoot out from the water to grapple the dish, the squid using both his weight and his appendages to pull at its higher edge, forcing the apparatus to aim into the sky instead of Panghol. He also hisses towards the human ships in a hopeless attempt to tell them to leave, though it probably goes both unheard and not understood.

Thank you for the Strength check. Paralyzing Touch won’t work on the technology, unfortunately, unless you describe it as some form of electrical attack (like a taser). And since the weapons platform is a lifeless object, it doesn’t oppose your grapple.

Your grapple succeeded on a Raise (several Raises, actually), so the weapon is considered Bound and Entangled. You get +2 to all further rolls against the weapon while it’s grappled. Meanwhile, it can’t take any actions other than to break free and suffers -2 to all rolls.

On your next turn, you can also make a Crush attack on the weapon. That’s an opposed Strength check. If you succeed, you do your Strength in damage.
Straj

Your tentacles quickly rise from the water and reach to the surface of the platform. They coil around the large parabolic dish. It’s not difficult for you to redirect the dish away from Panghol. You can hear the motors at the base of the weapon groan in resistance as you tilt the dish upward.

The Dauntless is unable to use its missiles with Taclydus so close and tearing at the forward missile battery. The ship’s naval gun and rear missile battery attempt to acquire other targets, but by this point, Panghol and Omukade have both submerged into the darkness of the nighttime water. As each kaiju swims through the depths, the ocean’s surface bulges and froths in their wake. They approach the blockade like mountainous underwater torpedoes. In response, the Dauntless and the weapons platform launch torpedoes of their own.
OOC:
Panghol, please give me an Athletics rolls at -2 (since you are not innately aquatic) to oppose the torpedoes locking on to you with sonar. On a success, the torpedoes cannot acquire you as a target in this round.

These are human attacks, he's felt their sting before. He knows he has to avoid their bite. With an apologetic look towards the ship, Straj tightens his hold on the round dish, wrapping his limbs around the place where it is attached to the foundation. His tentacles taut with tension, the squid attempts to tear it, to disconnect the dish and make it impossible to control - even though he doesn't exactly know how humans do that. But without attachment to the platform, it probably wouldn't be able to right itself if Straj drops it...

His eyes dart towards the water surface stretching towards Monster Island, watching graceful form of Omukade and intimidating figure of Panghol make their way towards the platforms, and Straj chirps in anxiety at the sight of blurry silhouettes of torpedoes moving underwater. He turns his head - twists around his own limbs, - towards the human ship. Weapon platforms are one thing, but the ship? He feels that he needs to do something about it before other kaiju reach it - other than the pterodactyl, that is, who is already screeching at the humans from above.
OOC:
If I succeed enough to destroy or somehow incapacitate the dis, I'd like to then move towards Dauntless.

Panghol kicks up a massive cloud of sediment as he burrows into the regolith of the sea floor. The two torpedoes streak passed him, but being smart torpedoes, they begin making a wide turn in order to back track and reacquire their target.
OOC:
@Panghol, being self-guided weapons, the torpedoes will take one more pass at you next round. If they can’t find you or hit you next round, they automatically detonate.
Taclydus continues to claw at the deck of the Dauntless with massive talons. Though he is tearing away chunks of the ship’s bow, the nighttime darkness and moving target makes it difficult to remove the launchers. Since the flying kaiju is too close for the ship to use its explosive ordnance, the Dauntless instead rotates the naval gun toward Taclydus and fires.

Meanwhile, the weapon platform forgoes attempting a lock and instead direct-fires its torpedoes at Omukade.

Your Toughness is 60 (34). The naval gun has an AP of 30 (so it ignores 30 points of Armor), leaving Toughness 30 (4).

The gun did exactly 30 damage, which is just barely enough to inflict the Shaken condition on Taclydus. This means that he cannot act other than to move or take free actions. At the start of Taclydus’ next turn, he may make a Spirit roll to recover from the Shaken condition. The roll is a free action, so if he succeeds then he can still act as normal that round.

Alternately, you can also just spend a Benny to automatically lift the condition.

Two torpedoes launch from the pylons of the platform and strike the giant megapede. An explosion resounds through the water, followed a split-second later by a second one. The torpedoes detonate closer to the platform than is normally safe, and the entire structure shudders from the shockwaves.
OOC:
Omukade has Toughness 61(36). Each torpedo has an AP of 22, leaving Toughness 39 (14). The torpedoes inflicted 40 and 41 damage, which is just enough to cause the Shaken condition and one Wound.

So Omukade is Shaken and suffering one Wound level.

OOC:
That concludes Round 3. Players may draw cards for Round 4 initiative.

At the moment, Omukade and Panghol are both within range of the weapons platform to attack it directly. Panghol is buried in the silt of the sea floor. One more round of movement would bring you to the Dauntless, if you so choose. Straj is currently next to the Dauntless, having moved to it last round. And Taclydus is hovering above the front of the warship.

Okay, the humans have initiative...
The torpedoes travel back to Panghol's last location before he disappeared beneath the sediment, leaving silt-clouded water in his place. With no target left to acquire, the torpedoes both detonate automatically over the sea floor.
OOC:
@Panghol, please give me an Agility roll at +4.
Meanwhile, Omukade is too close for the weapons platform to safely fire any more torpedoes. The weapon systems on top of the platform have no unobstructed view of the megapede and cannot fire at her. The structure is at Omukade's mercy should she choose to attack it.

Taclydus is also too close for the Dauntless to fire any of its missiles, so it again resorts to firing its naval gun at the flying kaiju. The ship begins to turn, trying to expose its broadside to the two kaiju near the weapons platform so it can unleash a volley of cannon and missile fire.
OOC:
Okay... yep, that's a critical failure on the Dauntless' part.
Perhaps a dozen miles away, the crack of naval artillery can be heard in the distance, and one can see small flashes of light in the nighttime darkness as missiles strike their targets. Other ships in the blockade seem to have engaged inhabitants of the Sanctuary.

The 130mm naval gun, instead of firing, suddenly explodes. Perhaps a shell was faulty, or the barrel was so hot that the ordnance cooked off and detonated. Whatever the case, the large cannon blows apart in a ball of fire. Pieces of smoking metal rain onto the lower decks of the ship. The upper deck, where the gun was mounted, is currently on fire and thick black smoke is billowing up into the sky, obscuring the humans' view from the bridge. Panicked shouting can be heard as human crewmembers respond to contain the blaze.
OOC:
Everyone please give me a Notice check at -2. No penalties if you have some form of nightvision.

The humans have all acted for the round. Kaiju may commence with their actions.

As the explosions aftershock fades, the creature digs his way out of his sandy tunnel and sees the legs of the platform ahead, now closer. It looks to him like an armored Kaiju in a defiant stance, barring his way to freedom.

Yes, you definitely can.

For those who make a Notice roll and succeed, you are aware that there are warships to the left and right of your position. These other ships in the blockade have broken formation and are cruising toward you at maximum speed.

This isn’t unexpected. You’ve all seen how the humans respond to jail breaks. Kaiju that aren’t deterred by the weapons platforms and their painful MASER attacks are beset by the ships of the blockade. They converge on the fleeing monster in order to corral it back to the island (or to kill it, in the most extreme cases). The Dauntless’ reinforcements approach in the darkness. Silhouetted against the moonlight, they appear as giant floating bulks that bring bright lights and noise with them.

For those of you with some form of night vision, you are able to discern more details. One of the approaching vessels, the one coming from the south, looks to be roughly the same size as the Dauntless. The ship coming from the north, however, is notably much larger. It’s a massive seacraft, in fact. It’s perhaps twice the length of the warship that you are currently battling. The behemoth is heavily-armed and flat-topped, carrying a fleet of small flying vehicles that it uses to pester and annoy kaiju.

Apologies for the delay.
With the metal dish torn from its foundation, Straj unfurls his tentacles from the platform and submerges again with a loud splash, which is nevertheless lost in the sound of weapon fire and kaiju roaring. The squid doesn't waste any time as he launches himself towards the warship, his concern growing exponentially at the sight of Panghol, Omukade and Taclydus all approaching it. The cephalopod kaiju can see fire reflecting in the waves caused by all the movement, and from what he gathered about humans, fire is rarely a good thing for them. The screeching, still audible though muffled by the water, and the sounds of torpedoes going off only urge Straj to move even faster.

Straj swims past Omukade, briefly peering at her with curiosity - it is rare for him to see usually land-bound kaiju swim, and it is fascinating, - and dives under the ship, positioning himself directly below it. His tentacles shoot upwards, raising around either side of the warship, a fountain of salt water raining down on the deck from them. The tentacles pause for five second, giving humans time to get out of the way, before slowly reaching down to wrap around the Dauntless. Like an illustration from a fantasy book about sailors, Straj entangles his limbs with it, making sure to get a good grip on the vessel, before using his strength to pull the ship away from Omukade.
OOC:
Kraken style! I hope I did the rolls correctly. (This Notice roll doesn't give multi-penalties, right?)

Straj wraps his mighty tentacles around the entire forward section of the warship and starts the pull. Human crew members respond in panicked surprise. Some run and take cover. Others fire their handguns and rifles at your tentacles, but their little pea shooters do nothing more than tickle you.

You begin dragging the warship through the water and away from your oncoming comrades. You can hear and feel the vessel’s engines trying to fight you with 54,000 shaft horsepower of propulsion. It’s not easy, of course, and it takes almost all of your strength to succeed, but Straj forcefully pulls the Dauntless off of its heading toward the island and the sentai.

OOC:
Yep you’ll stay grappled as long as you want, since the ship can’t resist your grapple (it’s a ship). However, you’ll need to keep making Strength checks each turn since that’s something the ship can oppose. But keep in mind that you can’t really do much else while grappling or being grappled, other than to keep moving.

And in the previous situation, the Notice check won’t cause a multi action penalty.

To recap, Straj is currently grappling the Dauntless and dragging it away.

Omukade has advanced to the blockade line. The Dauntless is no longer directly in Omukade’s path. However, the ship is still within reach is Omukade wants to attack it.

Panghol is still at the weapons platform. However, he is too close for it to target him with any of its weapons.

Panghol enjoys the vibration of the silver fishes exploding behind him, elated to be unscathed!

He turns his attention to the defiant metal platform challenging him and barring his way. He charges it and climbs on its legs all the way up to break the sea surface, with the dual goal of engaging it in close combat and to catch his breath after the underwater swimming and tunneling. With a roar of rage he attacks the largest weapon of the platform, that he believes to be the head of the metal monster.

The main deck of the weapons platform is about 100 ft/30.48 m above the ocean's surface, supported by four massive legs. You begin to scale one of the legs. However, just as your kaiju reaches the deck, a large section of the platform gives way to your weight. Metal screeches and rends as a portion of the deck snaps off. You fall back into the ocean in an epic splash, followed by dozens of metric tonnes of debris.
OOC:
Ouch! Sorry, buddy. This dice roller is ruthless. There's no real repercussion from the Critical Failure other than a turn being wasted.

So normally you can only interrupt another character's action if you get a Joker card for your initiative, or if you are Holding an action (meaning that you are reserving your action to act later in the initiative order). However there is no set initiative order among the players in this fight, so since you haven't acted yet for the round, I'll let you interrupt Omukade if you'd like. That means you both make opposed Athletics rolls. Omukade gets a +2 to her roll because you are in the midst of grappling.

Whoever rolls highest gets to act first. In the case of a tie, both act simultaneously. Keep in mind that Straj will need to release the Dauntless from her grapple to do this.

If Straj succeeds on the Athletics roll to interrupt, then he may use that action to attempt an Intimidation.

With the +2 bonus, Omukade ties with Straj on the Athletics roll, which means that both of you act simultaneously.

Since you are both going at the same time, I'm gonna rule that Straj is able to partially block the attack. Omukade's poison attack will do half its damage to the Dauntless, and half to Straj. Full AP in both cases.

I'm assuming that Omukade's poison is acidic, hence why it has an AP.
Straj hastily unfurls his arms from the Dauntless as he sees Omukade rearing out of the water. The giant cephalopod moves to the port side of the ship and catches some of the projectile poison before it strikes the hull. Although the attack isn't sufficient enough to cause major harm to Straj, the kaiju can still feel the acidic venom eating away at his skin. The remainder of the poison sprays on the deck of the ship, and a handful of unfortunate humans die very painful deaths. The liquid begins consuming sections of the deck, though the Dauntless hasn't suffered any serious structural damage because of it, thanks to Straj.

Omukade is now directly next to the vessel.
OOC:

What Qralloq said.

Straj hasn't taken any damage. He has Toughness 49 (30). The poison attack had an AP 24, leaving Straj with Toughness 25. Half damage for the attack is 16, so that's well within Straj's ability to endure. The description about "acidic venom eating away at his skin" was just for dramatic effect. You didn't take damage, but it still hurt quite a bit.

Straj chitters angrily at Omukade, his many pupils dilating in pain, shaking his tentacles at the centipede in a loud gesture of "Get out!". The squid places himself firmly between her and the warship, trying to block the other kaiju's approach - and the human torpedoes as well. His lack of self-preservation truly shines in that moment, swimming between two sides that would likely consider him acceptable collateral; but by now, Straj is slowly growing enraged himself and refuses to stay down. His perfectly working plan of pulling the humans away was foiled, and Omukade threatened the white coats, which Straj can't let continue.

He raises his tentacles up in the air, pointing them at Omukade in a threatening display, blue lights growing in intensity with his agitation, acid still dripping from them into the water. The squid growls - though it sounds more like a hiss, - and stares at the centipede with round amber eyes, continuing to emit the most scary sounds he is capable off.

There is a "Defend" maneuver that provides a +4 to Parry (but you sacrifice your action for that round and can only move). However, it’s only effective against melee attacks.

OOC:
For their turn, the humans don't do much. The HMS Dauntless is effectively crippled and can only move around. A portion of its crew is dead, the ship is damaged, and they have fires to put out. The next closest vessels in the blockade - the INS Kolkata and the USS Ticonderoga - are still a little too far to attack you, so they spend the round moving in your direction.

Okay, that concludes Round 5. On to Round 6.
As your sentai continues its advance from the island, your attention is briefly drawn by commotion in the distance, both beside you and behind you. Off in the darkness, you can see the night light up as missiles strike other kaiju targets that have taken to the ocean. You hear the crack of naval cannons and the high-pitched hum of MASERS. The deafening noise of the humans' weapons is intermixed with the sounds of earth-shaking bellows, screeches, and screams. You see bright trails of anti-aircraft fire trying to shoot down various flying kaiju.

It seems as though your jail break has served as a catalyst. Like a chain reaction, your sentai's escape attempt has triggered escapes by other kaiju on Monster Island. What was initially a few kaiju has turned into a mass breakout unlike anything seen in the history of the Sanctuary. All around you, weapons platforms unleash their arsenals on the escapees, and scores of torpedoes begin detonating against oncoming giant monsters. To the left and right of you, the warships of the blockade keep their broadsides facing the island and start bombarding anything that moves with hellfire missile volleys, autocannons, and naval artillery. Overhead is the familiar roar of jet fighters rocketing through the sky as aircraft carriers deploy their strike aircraft to harry the giant monsters. The nighttime is now illuminated by explosions, tracer rounds, and breath weapons of every variety.

It's absolute pandemonium, and the chaos is only enraging many kaiju even further, pushing them into rampage mode. Behind you, Emperor Wukong emerges from the island's interior and stands along the shore. The gargantuan ape looks out at the battle taking place before him and roars defiantly while beating his chest with two fists the size of houses. The members of his sentai follow suit and line up along the beach: Megaro, Shelenga, and others. Collectively, they launch themselves into the water and make their way toward a weapons platform and a pair of destroyers.

A mile away, the rock-skinned monstrosity known as Obsidilus leaps from the ocean and catches hold of a military helicopter in mid flight, pulling the hapless vehicle back into the dark waters with it.

Elsewhere, the kaiju called Cthura is firing spikes from its body at a heavy cruiser that is returning fire with its railgun.

The USS Ticonderoga, the aircraft carrier on course to intercept your sentai, abruptly comes to a stop and lurches 20° on its side as though having struck something submerged. It's enough of a tilt that aircraft slide off its flight deck and into the ocean. The rear keel of the colossal sea vessel even rises partially out of the water, and you glimpse the coils of something massive pushing into the Ticonderoga from underneath.

Most of the island’s inhabitants seem to be making a break for freedom. The only kaiju conspicuously absent from the fighting is Daitatsu. Unwilling to leave her egg unattended, you can see the Great Dragon watching from the caldera as the battle unfolds.
OOC:
If you wish to keep fighting, draw an action card for initiative. Otherwise, your characters can use the general mayhem as an opportunity to flee toward the mainland. None of you have the Bloodlust Hindrance, so no one is required to keep fighting unless you'd like to.

Panghol is taken aback by the collapse of the platform, and reads it as a defeat of his immediate enemy, who was crushed under his mighty weight.

He reemerges and sees the chaos caused by the escaping multitude of kaijus, and a triumphant roar grows in his throat. He tilts his head skywards and lets it bellow.

He focuses his energy on the sea surface and pushes against it to lift off. The sea bends in a deep circular hollow below him, and his mass starts to hover.

With another bellow, the armoured giant advances in the air like a flying mountain, suspended by his energy at twenty yards above the sea. Walls of displaced water build either side of him and crash closing after his passage.

He heads past the disrupted barrier of human defenses, and into the ocean beyond, following Omukade towards freedom.

Alright, if everyone is in agreement to leave the fighting and press on toward land, then that effectively concludes combat. Unless there is anything else someone wants to do, that also means that Episode 1 is complete. Episode 2 will begin with all of you arriving at mainland Europe. I probably won’t be able to post again till Monday. Good work, everyone.

All of you receive an Advance. For every four Advances you earn, you go up a Rank.

For those of you that are new to Savage Worlds, an Advance lets you do ONE of the following:

• Gain a new Edge.

• Increase a skill that is equal to or greater than its linked attribute one die type.

• Increase two skills that are lower than their linked attributes by one die type each (including new skills the character didn’t have before at d4).

• Increase one attribute by a die type. This option may only be taken once per Rank. Remember that no Trait may be raised above its racial maximum.

• Permanently remove a Minor Hindrance, or reduce a Major Hindrance to a Minor (if possible). With the GM’s permission, and if it makes sense, two Advances may be saved up and spent to remove a Major Hindrance. The player and GM should work out how and when this happens. Perhaps the shocking death of an ally triggers a change in attitude, the hero puts real effort into improving harmful behavior, or might even seek professional help during downtime between missions.

I forgot to mention this, but all spent Bennies are recovered for Episode 2. Likewise, anyone who suffered a Wound may make a Natural Healing roll (Vigor). If you succeed, you heal one Wound. On a Raise, you heal two.

Kaiju may make daily natural healing rolls, as opposed to the default "one roll per five days" rule for standard Savage Worlds characters.

@Shaquille_Oatmeal, can I see Dr. Lessing on the deck? Or any other scientist?
OOC:
And to ask in advance, can I make a Language/Telepathy skill to use on humans? Visual telepathy, no words. :D

@Straj, please give me a Notice check, just because a lot is happening in the battle.

I'll start with a Vigor check for Omukade, then look at advances.

I think I'll raise Spirit d4 to d6

Rolls

V-GOR! - (1d12, 1d6, RA)

1d12 : (6) = 6

1d6 : (4) = 4

OOC:
@Straj, yes you can definitely take a d4 in a human language. English is probably the most practical option. With it, you’ll be able to communicate with humans telepathically.

OOC:
If anyone fails Vigor healing, can I attempt my healing skill for them? Just casually spit some healing ink as we swim to freedom. XD

Rolls

Notice - (1d10, RA)

(8) = 8

Wild - (1d6, RA)

(1) = 1

Can I just have visual telepathy? So it can be used for any human? :D Just in case we are going to travel a lot.

Straj should take a human as a pet/souvenir :D

Yep, no problem
It takes a moment, but through the smoke and darkness, Straj sees the white coat humans grouped together on the rear deck of the Dauntless. They are all boarding a Chinook tandem rotor helicopter. It appears that the naval officers are evacuating all civilians from the vessel, which includes Dr. Lessing and the other kaijuologists and marine biologists. The blades of the helicopter are already rotating in preparation to leave. Once the last scientist climbs aboard, the large aircraft lifts off from the flight deck and heads in a northwest direction.

OOC:
I mean, what scientist would be against a wondrous ride on a giant sentient squid? :P
Straj lingers by the damaged warship, making sure none of his sentai lag behind and engage with the humans again. Only when last echoes of Panghol's victorious roar fade and the squid can't see any of his allies in immediate vicinity, does he move to join them. But then, Straj pauses and swirls in the water, staring at the ship; his multiple eyes search the deck until the cephalopod chitters happily at the sight of white coats making their way to the flying machine. He is glad to see them unharmed, and he even waves at them with one tentacle - though he quickly stops in case other humans interpret it as a threat.

Straj watches as the white coats depart, sends one last conflicted look towards the ship and then submerges, hiding under the surface of the ocean. He propels himself after the sentai, following the waves left by Panghol and the sound of Taclydus' screeching, heading straight for the mainland. His tentacles twitch with nervous excitement - it's been a while since he was outside of Monster Island. There are surely many curious things on the continent...
OOC:
I think I'll add Telepathy on 4d and up my Athletics to d6 (they did prove useful). :D

I will use the Advance to raise Panghol's Agility 1 die, to d12. This can only happen once per rank, I made a note in the character sheet
