Hi all! Thanks for having me here! I'm very new to CoC. "Call of Cthulhu - The Haunting" GM'd by Knifesedgegames is my very first CoC experience and I have really been enjoying it so when he said there was an open slot here, I jumped at the chance! I'm just getting my character set up with Knife's help. Looking forward to jumping in!

Whew that was rough! Turned out to be more like 60hrs. But I'm back and eager to get caught up! :-)

Regarding language skills

I have found a rule regarding this I'd not seen before. If your Own language skill is 50% you have a 10% bonus in other languages from the same group (EG for English - German and Dutch)

If you have higher than 90% you get an additional 10% in those languages. Please amend your sheets accordingly

Let me make sure I have this right. Mathis speaks english at 76 and latin at 26%. so I now also have a 11 in german and dutch (all skills starting at 1), but no other modifiers until i either get to 90 in english or 50 in latin? If i do get my latin up, where would i find the language groups to know what i would get bonuses in?

Exactly right. For Latin , other languages affected would be Romance languages French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese

Sorry I've been away for a bit. Took the GRE last weekend and have been getting back into the swing of things after having studied for that for a few months.

No problem KJ. Are you aware of the Absences Thread. Certainly not compulsory but anytime you think you'll not be around, good to post there. I'm not a GM that throws you out if you don't post for a few days, but others may be, so if you play lots of games it's a handy tool.
