Tam finds a crystal sphere and casts a spell on it. Her point of view shifts out of her body and into a small magical construct that travels a mile away from the Way

She casts clairvoiance to get a better perspective

The clairvoyance probe scouts ahead, giving you a detailed look at each object. The debris is mostly black metal plating and the rigging is a red stabilizer fin, which matches the description of The Aurora.

The skiff is of an entirely different design. It has a crystal-like structure that is interwoven throughout the vehicle. It appears to have a helm that is damaged, but a faint glow is coming from within. An instrumental panel on the top of the helm is written in a strange language*.

The body is of what appears to be a hideous flesh / warforged hybrid. The creature is 15 feet tall and has both warforged and flesh parts. Its designs are similar to the Warforged Titans you saw deployed near the end of the war, or maybe its just its size that makes you think that. The thing is covered in a sheen of frost and does not appear to be breathing or moving.

"Abomination," W.A.R.P. X gasped, then continued louder, "This unit can translate the exotic language but it must touch the skiff. Considering the unknown nature of the script combined with the unnatural Warforged-organic chimera, it advises no physical contact with either ship or oddity."

Despite the obvious distaste in the normally strictly enforced neutrality of its voice, W.A.R.P. X looked closer at the display. Purple lenses shifted over its eyes like eyelids blinking, and it tried to understand the various magical technologies it was seeing.

Rolls

Arcana - (1d20+9, 1d20+9)

1d20+9 : (12) + 9 = 21

1d20+9 : (11) + 9 = 20

Could someone detect for magic? I think I saw some shimmer, that could be a cloaking effect, but I can't find it right now. And I'm keeping this viewing spell going.
If we know where to direct a dispelling effect, we could learn more, before we get any closer.

Rolls

Perception +8 (Exper) - (1d20+8)

(2) + 8 = 10

Arcana +9 (Exper) +1D4 - (1d20+9, 1d4)

1d20+9 : (7) + 9 = 16

1d4 : (4) = 4

"I haven’t prepared that particular ritual, but I can go outside and speak with that dead fellow outside in the void.

"I would feel most comfortable being tethered to the ship. In order to speak with the dead, I need to be within 10 feet of the corpse."

Good plan Brush. Perhaps someone could cover you with a crossbow and a broad-headed bolt, to push away the creature is something happens?

"Tamara, if we cast a shadow on the vessel with our ship I will be able to scout without others being put in harms way to be sure the creature is deceased. Just get me close enough." Whispers turns to head to the deck of The Way without waiting for a response.
OOC:
Mechanically, I just need to be within 60ft.

"If contact must be made, Whisper's proposal seems the least potentially ruinous. Computing approach vector for optimal stellar occulting."
OOC:
Warp will see how best to maneuver The Way for maximum light blockage. Piloting roll? INT-related?

B-9 clomps to the cargo bay with a tray in hand. "Quartermaster," they say. "Your hot tea is ready."

W.A.R.P. X maneuvers the ship within 60 feet of the debris field, putting The Way between it and the sun. Now shrouded in shadow, Whisper has a clear jump to make from here to the skiff, which is within 10 feet of the cyborg. Also, if other crew members wish they can get out of The Way, although there will be no gravity and will need some way to propel themselves. Tethering yourself to the ship and giving a good kick off the side can do it with an Athletics or Acrobatics roll to do it gracefully, or you can use a fancier way.

Brush would like to accompany Whisper.

"Whisper, I appreciate your willingness to act as forward scout. How about I accompany you from a distance? I can then assist if things get dicey."

He is going to strap a tether to his armor, such that it is snug and secure, and then he will exit the craft with Whisper, but he will attempt to kick off the ship's hull and observe Whisper prior to joining him out there. If things get dicey, Whisper can always teleport back, but Brush doesn't have that convenience.

Should something happen that would preclude Whisper from being able to teleport all the way back, Brush will kick off and grab his companion from space.

"Thank you for your assistance, Brush."

The central gem in Whispers' head shifts from white to purple and to any observers they simply take a step and appear on the skiff in a crouch, watching the hybrid.

Whispers appears in the darkened skiff and feels the immediate sensation of falling and cold as he has left the artificial gravity and warmth generated by The Way's bound elementals.

The giant cyborg does not move.

Whispers adjusts appropriately, holding on to the skiff as it slowly tumbles. Something about your contact with the skiff triggers a subtle reaction in the crystal that is interwoven through the hull, sending faint purple pulses to the the damaged helm. One of the instrument panels, which looks like an apple-sized ball set into the console, suddenly snaps into action. The ball begins to rotate, breaking an idle crust of frost on its surface. It spins about and then fixes itself on some location in space like a 3D compass, and continues to adjust to point toward that point even as the skiff rotates. This is definitely not like any technology or sorcery you've ever seen.

Meanwhile, Brush watches Whispers' from the outside hull of the ship, perched on hand holds and ready to deploy if necessary.

Brush awaits the "all-clear" or the "danger" signal that they are all too familiar with from their years together during the Last War.
OOC:
Just realized that the nasty-looking hybrid could be doing his "Sentry's Rest" bit, where he seems inactive for 6 hours. Whispers, you better come back if that thing wakes up, or let me know and I can high-tail it over there to smash the thing.

On instinct, Whispers attempts to will the skiff to move. Still watching the hybrid.

Nothing happens specifically as a response to Whispers' willpower. It makes you wonder what those words say on the console, could possibly hint at how to operate this thing.
Mar 1, 2021 11:17 pm
After waiting a moment with no response. Whispers moves to the console to inspect it.
Mar 1, 2021 11:25 pm
B-9 arrives upon the bridge, setting the second and final cup next to Tamara. "Your tea, ma'am," they intone. They look to the images being magically arrayed and ask, "Should I prepare the infirmary?"
Mar 2, 2021 12:09 am
Brush, since the creature is not moving, and since he cannot determine if Whispers needs help yet, decides to push off. He knocks on the hull, using morse code, an old code form he used with his squad in the Last War (at least B-9 should understand it).

-... . .. ..- ... .... / .... . . .. . ..--.. / -.. .. ... . -- -... .- . .. -.- .. -. --. / .-. . . . .. / . . - .... . . .. / .. . . .. .- .-. - / -. . . .-- ..--.. / ... - .- -. -.. / -... .. .. ..--..
[ +- ] Message of Morse Code
After the message, he will kick off the hull, then lunge towards the other craft, using his soul to help him course-correct as needed. Once he reaches the hull, he hopes to use his echo-jumping to get to the opening, and to find Whispers.

W.A.R.P. X blinked and rattled off machine code, "01110110 01101001 01110011 01101001 01101111 01101110."

Its eyes became pitch black as it observed what they did in the shadows.

"Fascinating. This arcane technology is clearly beyond anything the Arcane Congress is aware of."

It looked in the direction in which the compass ball pointed.
OOC:
Casting Darkvision for 8 hours of, well, darkvision.
What lies along the compass heading?
