Oh no, don't drop that aspect. It's fun! I can't speak for anyone else but I'm comfortable with that. Should be interesting as I'm playing a blunt no-nonsense type from the other end of the spectrum.

Oh and as for being flirtatious feel free to flirt with my character the response will depend greatly on that character's views which have not been affirmed yet. As I keep reality and fantasy separate and role playing can be so much fun when that separation is maintained.

I'm aiming for a rather light hearted, heroic adventure. Nothing too gloomy although there certainly is also place for some more somber moments.
The whole region is experiencing a spirit of optimism as threats are low and trade and manufacturing are high.

As for WonderWaffle's paladin:
I like the concept but I'm not quite sure if it's 100% fitting as Asmodeus' domain is tyranny after all.
Maybe another more somber deity so, like DeJoker suggested, Kelemvor or Tempus.
I'm not completely opposed to an evil character though as long as it's not some kind of "I'm gonna kill this guy because I'm evil"-character.
If you need any more suggestions just ask away.

Flirting is totally fine - and if it becomes not fine for whatever reason, I'll let you know and we can talk about it. Thanks for asking. :)

A request for Scrol - would you be willing to work some Hexblade/Raven Queen interest or involvement into this expedition? I think it would work well for my patron to just steer my character into getting on the boat without explaining what their ultimate intentions are, but it would be a nice payoff if it eventually turned out there was a good reason why they wanted their pawn in place. Just a minor part in some grander scheme - happy to discuss ideas if you like, or feel free to surprise me!

@WonderWaffle
Another idea I just had: Paladin's in 5e don't necessarily have to follow a deity. So if you want to play a somewhat evil paladin your character could follow an order who wants to have order and peace in the area. In the eyes of the order the best way to do this is to expand its power.
Not by any means necessary but if it can choose between feeding the poor or gaining a favor with a noble it will do the latter.
@kadeton
Sure sounds like a nice role playing opportunity. Do you have anything specific in mind or are you okay if your character receives some kind of order from time to time?

Nothing specific, though I'll try to work a "command" to join the expedition into the character's backstory. I like the idea of the Hexblade (as a patron) being enigmatic and mysterious - sending signs, dreams, and other shadowy hints to ensure that the character is in the right place at the right time (to suit the Hexblade's purposes, not for their own benefit) without issuing explicit orders. The character will often have no idea why they feel compelled to go somewhere or do something, and will simply have to follow their instincts and see where it leads.

Gotcha! I was mostly going off of how Asmodeus was being described in the SCAG (granting reprieve to people who've done something terrible, making deals, granting boons for a price, et cetera), but I totally see where you're coming from. If we're going for something more light-hearted, I totally agree that it's not tonally appropriate for the Paladin to go around saying "fear not, for we shall assuage you of this great and terrible evil... but afterwards, you and I will have a nice chat about my lord and savior, Satan." Obviously not that comical, but you get the gist.

Anywho, I'm rambling. Someone more pure, noble and positive. Should have something up today-ish if all goes well :D

Also, speaking of character relations! Please let me know if you'd be comfortable with my character flirting with yours? Nothing serious, just compliments and teasing, but I imagine it can still be awkward at times. :D I wrote her flirtatious nature in personality, but I'm cool with dropping this aspect though!
Zero qualms with this, personally, as it's a staple trope that I can totally get behind :)

Annika Helminster, human warlock, submitted for approval. :)

I didn't end up including it in her backstory, but the reason she's on the boat is that an old folk song had been going round and round in her head for days. She has no idea where she heard it from. She was walking along the docks and absent-mindedly singing the last lines of the chorus:

So raise a glass and sing along, be jolly while you can,
For once he leaves the town, the wand'rer won't be back again!

When she saw the name of the boat that was loading up to depart, she immediately knew she had to get on board, so she simply walked up the gangplank and handed some coin to the captain without even asking where they were headed.

Just looked through all the characters we have until now and approved them.
I sense some great roleplaying potential here. Looking forward to bring those characters to life

Promise I'm nearing completion. Working on this Ffolk Order of Ancients Paladin of the Earthmother concept. Should be ready Soon(tm).

Busy last few days will try to address the character tonight if all goes well -- worst case will be this weekend

WonderWaffle I was wondering if we might be colleagues and/or friends? As I will be playing a Cleric of Oghma and I believe that means we are both from the same city.

No need to stress yourself.
I'm planning to start around the weekend but if you need a little more time that's no problem

Okay basics of the character have been submitted for approval -- I am awaiting determination upon question to finish a few things -- but will complete the rest fairly soon.
