Em's Story
* Thomas and Cynthia Moore were working at the Loop in Boulder City on some early secret project in 1980 when an accident claimed their lives -- and their bodies, which were never recovered.

* They were survived by their children, Erik and Morgan, who were at the time 14 and 5, respectively. Both were taken in by their mother's sister, Nancy Whitaker, and her good-natured but completely clueless husband Ralph.

* Erik got caught multiple times breaking into the DART facilities, and ended up in a juvenile delinquent program until he was 18. When he was released, he left for California to make his way in the world.

* Now in 5th grade, Morgan is a girl who has found her own touchstones in the world in order to survive. These are now her hallmarks: comics and horror fiction, counter culture films and music, black clothes, over-sized sweaters and messy hair. Her aunt is very good to her, but does not understand the often morose girl's obsessions and moods.

* Recently, Em (to her few friends) believes she has seen her brother Erik in town, but he pretended to not notice her.
