Touching his hair to make sure he's not on fire, Berry looks at the gate to see if his impulsive action changed anything.

Berry looks up and down at the seal. At first nothing changes, but the a faint orange light begins to glow from the seal. All of a sudden, the five-pointed star ignites into smoldering flame. The pyrotechnics are accompanied by another tremor, this one even bigger. You find yourselves struggling to stay upright as two more statues topple over and stalagmite falls from the ceiling a stone's throw away from you.

As the tremor subsides, a muffled voice emerges from Laurent's pack. "What the bloody hell is going on, Grimm?!" It calls out. "Answer me now, dammit!"

With a panicked look around, Laurent tries to understand what just happened. Soon his eyes are fixed on the stone sending arching bolts of energy all around. He concentrated on the hand holding the lantern: seeing as it was more necessary nearby, the young scholar had his hand gently put down the lantern 15 feet from the northwestern exit, hopefully illuminating any incursion from that direction. Convinced that it was certainly the mirror speaking through layers of cloth, he once again improvised. muttering softly under his breath as he built the courage to act, he suddenly produced a vocal explosion, as he tried to produce a full-throated, hoarse groan, yelling out in a simulacrum of pain and confusion "Argh! NO!! Arh... the fuck if I know! M'leeeegs!! arh, grr..."

Sending a performance/deception check, with guidance on top if the DMs allow for the casting of that before-hand.

"Berry! I have nothing against taking those things but for the sake of it be more careful! Did it open?" she asks while still pointing her crossbow towards the creature. Laurent! Who the hell is talking from your backpack?" she grimaces in confusion hearing Laurent's strange forced accent.

With all the shaking and noise, the grell decides now is the time to take it's chances. It comes full speed out from the dark passage like a bat out of hell, but as silent as grave. Thankfully, Tilma's been watchful eye spots it, preventing it from getting the drop on them entirely!

Tilma shoots the critter the moment it points its beak, aiming for the brain. Which isn't hard seeing that it's a big brain with tentacles.
"Kill it!" she waltzes around the statue and moves away to M7 as she reloads her crossbow.

Tilma's crossbow bolt finds its mark as it usually does, but it does not sink deep, catching some hidden spindle of chitin within the brain structure. (7 damage)

The grell keeps surging forward, heading straight for the smallest and easiest to carry target - Berry! It lashes it's 10ft long tentacles out at him, trying to stun hin and entangle him, but Berry is too swift!
OOC:
Grell misses Berry with a 9 vs AC! Berry and Laurent's turn is up. Note that the monster has a reach of 10 ft, so if Berry moves away from the Grell, it will get an Opportunity Attack.

Berry scuttles under the flailing tentacles, around the statue and to the south. (G9 if I can reach it with 25 speed) Once safely out of reach he takes a shot with his crossbow.

Berry gives the grell the slip and outs some distance them. His aim is true, but his crossbow bolt bounces harmlessly off of the creatures thick beak.

Seeing the horrendous creature in all its disgusting reality had Laurent's stomach turn, all blood having already drained from his face a few moments earlier, with the earthquake. Unsure of what to do, he thought presently of his own survival. Reciting in a cryptic voice, the thin young man opened his arms in a warding sign and retained that position, while slowly and deliberately moving to interpose between himself and Berry. Meanwhile, he concentrated all his will on moving the green stone with his mind.
OOC:
Not sure this can work, and if it doesn't, Laurent might be in trouble.
Movement = J4-I4-H5-G6
Bonus action: cast Sanctuary (the grell must beat a DC12 WIS save to be able to attack Laurent).
Action: use mage hand to try to roll the green stone and its overflowing energy under the Grell (I know you described it as weighing 30-40 pounds, but the hand isn't trying to lift it, but just roll it closer to the abomination).

Laurent wreathes himself in protective magic and nudges the green crystal towards the floating tentacled horror. The crystal rolls, green lightnings pouring out of its broken surface. In a particularly violent spasm an arc of energy shoots upward and lances through the grell... to no effect! The monster seems to be immune to it! It turns, intent on making a snack out of you interlopers. Laurent is practically underneath it!

Tilma continues to distance herself from the creature and the moment her sight aligns with her target she shoots. Her line of sight saw the grell between the statues and the arrow follows true to her vision, hitting the creature.

Encouraged by her success she shouts out "Hey! Brainbug! Come taste this juicy piece!" she slaps her tight trying to get the creature's attention.

Ignoring Tilma's taunting, the grell reaches for Laurent with its tentacles, but his magic protects him! It's hard to tell, given the creature's alien anatomy, but it must be reconsidering whether you three are worth the trouble!

Sensing that his companions were efficiently hurting the monstrosity while his own divine shroud disrupted the horrid —yet fascinating! —creature’s aggressive strategies, Laurent continued trying to interpose himself between the creature and Berry. To increase the chances that his self-sacrificial tactics were successful, he adopted a defensive stance.

Not moving. Using dodge to avoid the tentacles, while still trying to interpose himself. Trying to save my last spell slot for reviving fallen comrades…

Berry's bolt manages to puncture the side of the creature's, and a nasty gush of blood sprays out. It lets out a ear-splitting scream that echoes through the cavern!

The quarrel slams into the creature, which careens down the tunnel, ricocheting off the rock wall, smearing it with blood and brain goo. It can't take much more punishment!
