I think it would depend on the campaign. I started annotating a map in Icewind Dale, but it became too much hassle, so I switched to OtFBM, but they weren't really built for it.
I'm reminded of the first adventure I ran on GP. That was in Waterdeep - that was a headache too, so maybe it's not just for wide landscapes.

I'm pretty happy with the custom sheet, but an official one would be miles easier for most people to use, for sure.
