Chalrytharendir says:
I made one adjustment from the default options.
That looks fair to me! Approved!

For the Bonds, I think we should take the time to discuss them.

For example, what might Mance have heard about Teo that would cause him to sing songs about them?
Or, if Teo shared a secret, what was it, and when did that interaction occur?

Ideally everyone should have at least one bond with the other two PCs. and Bonds should be approved by both players!

I think we're only missing @Jabes.plays.RPG character sheet now, and a discussion on Bonds, then we should be ready to get started!

Sorry for the delay! I've given it some thought and I think given his personality, Bonepipe makes more sense as a Barbarian than Immolator. I'll throw a character sheet together tonight.

Chalrytharendir says:
I am writing a flaming-bagpipes concerto for Bonepipe.
Brilliant!🤘

For Bonepipe's Bonds I propose:

Mance shares my hunger for glory; the earth will tremble at our passing!

Teo's ways are strange and confusing.

Roit. Ey Guv, can me "token of where you’ve traveled or where you’re from" be me flamin' bagpipe?

An' instead of an axe or sword can I just stomp blokes wi'h me bitchin' spiked boots (hand, +1 damage, 1 weight)? An' maybe blast 'em wi'h flames from me bagpipe (close)?

That sounds like fun! How about this:
Flaming Bagpipe can be a re-flavoring of your armament (close, +1 damage, 2 weight), and be your token.

The spiked boots (hand, 1 weight), can replace your "choose one" item (adventuring gear or chainmail).

Does that seem fair?

Works for me! Thanks!

My understanding is it's a choice between chainmail vs. adventuting gear + a second instance of rations. So I'm giving those up for the boots.

Would the bagpipe flames attack be Volley (Dex based) or Hack & Slash (Str based). That's why I proposed the +1 damage be on the boots rather than the bagpipe.

Would either "weapon" or both gain the messy and forceful tags from Musclebound?

Oh, right I forgot the rations - yes, you'd be giving those up for spiked boots.

Ah, that's a good point, the bagpipe would be Volley. Ok, the Boots can have the +1 then.

Yep, both of them can get that tag, since Musclebound doesn't specify what weapon. Flavor-wise, I can definitely see how Spiked Boots and a Flamethrower bagpipe could get Messy. Forceful on the boots probably more or less means kicking them back, while the bagpipe might cause them to fall back because of the fire.

Definitely agree!

Here are my suggestions, but it's just brainstorming, I don't have my heart set on any so make sure to give me your suggestions or comments if you have another idea.

This is not my first adventure with Bonepipe.
In fact maybe he is currently a member of the crew of the ship. I don't know if @Jabes.plays.RPG has decided on a connection to Nohme, but if not, maybe he's coming to Nohme for the first time because he's traveling with The Symphony of Ice and Fire. So his connection to Nohme is actually Mance. Or alternatively, he has another connection in Nohme as well and we met years ago and bonded over our love of fire music and our mutual connection to Nohme.
Quote:
I am writing a flaming-bagpipes concerto for Bonepipe.
Sort of following on from the above. Mance loves Bonepipe's bagpipe solos, so trying to create a piece of music to allow Bonepipe to shine.
Quote:
I sang stories of Teo long before I ever met them in person.
The winter solstice festivals in the ports of the world are filled with various folklore. To add his own take to the myths, Mance wrote a song of a ever-young half-elf, half-reindeer being that travels down from the biting north to deliver presents to children on the solstice all over the world. He based it on Teo, who had recently started visiting Nohme to trade goods. He had an incredible affinity with the children of the village and would always bring them little knick-knacks from his village or the wild. The song is now a favourite during the solstice in most ports around the world. Mance had heard of Teo during one of his visits back to Nohme, but had never actually met him until now.
Quote:
Teo trusted me with a secret.
I'll leave this one up to @Aquafina to think of. And why would Teo have confided in Mance so soon after finally meeting each other?

Anyways, like I said, these are just ideas off the top of my head. If anyone has other ideas, I'm all ears.

@Aquafina, also meant to mention I went back and read the details you added about your character and backstory. It's great, looking forward to adventure alongside Teo.

Perfect! Mance definitely wants the glory of being the most renowned performer of all time and to live on in history forever in the form of music! He hopes bards will be playing his songs for centuries to come!

@Jabes.plays.RPG, this would definitely work, as Teo looks a little strange, is always talking about the spirits of the world, and transforms himself into animals quite often. Teo could think the same thing about Bonepipe it seems lol
Quote:
The spirits spoke to me of a great danger that follows [COMPANION].
Perhaps I have this one for Bonepipe, what would be a great danger that might follow Bonepipe, whether he knows it or not.
Quote:
I have showed [COMPANION] a secret rite of the Land.
Maybe this can go hand in hand with your Bond for Teo, @Chalrytharendir? His village is renowned for having wise oracles and people like that. Maybe Mance heard about it and wanted to ask Teo something while he was in town getting supplies, then Teo performed some kind of ritual or rite that his village uses to contact spirits. Performing those rites outside of the village is usually prohibited, but Teo did it for Mance secretly since he knew he was a good guy and Mance wrote a song about him lol. Maybe if Mance has a loved one they wanted to speak to one last time?

And i love the myth and song about Teo being a young shapeshifting Santa Claus, that is brilliant!

@Aquafina, I like this idea a lot! In fact maybe it's how Teo joins the mission.

So trying to put it all together, here's what I'm thinking for the events leading up to the adventure: Nohme becomes infected. Teo accidentally spreads the disease to his village. Mance hears the news and comes back to Nohme to help (possibly with Bonepipe because they are currently bandmates and traveling companions already, or Bonepipe comes by another route and reunites with Mance upon arrival, I'll leave that up to @Jabes.plays.RPG). They pledge to go to Eiselcross together to search for the cure. But before going Mance thinks they should seek out the famous oracles of Teo's village for clues about their quest. The village refuses to see them because the elders are terrified of outsiders since the outbreak. Mance recognizes Teo as the elf-reindeer from his songs/stories and confronts him. He tells Teo of the impact his songs/stories have had around the world and thanks him for his kind nature as inspiration. Hearing the stories, Teo believes Mance is good and means well, so Teo helps by performing the secret ritual to provide an oracle for their upcoming journey. Learning of Mance's quest, Teo asks to join because he feels responsible and wants to help find the cure too. Mance gladly agrees. Bonepipe is wary of Teo because he thinks he's a weirdo XD, but trusts Mance's judgement. Feelings are mutual for Teo because he has visions of danger around Bonepipes (maybe these were part of the oracle), but feels compelled to join because of his guilt and good nature. The 3 companions set sail for Eiselcross on "The Symphony of Ice and Fire."

If there's any other preamble we need to do in Nohme before we leave, we can of course do that first, but I think that's shaping up to be a decent setup for why we are all together given our bonds. I'm open to edits, comments, or different ideas, let me know what you all think.

I think that all sounds great! Would everyone be alright with beginning on "The Symphony of Ice and Fire" ship, then? We'd be starting at the Nohme dock, since there may be some starting information you'll want to get from the Nohme Burgomaster - but if you start on the ship there's no need for you to go into town initially, and keeping a distance may be a good call, what with the plague and all.

I need to go back and reread the setting as well as Teo's and Mance's backstories and then put something together for Bonepipe but spoiler alert, I tend to write only the barest framework and fill stuff in during play.

Yes, I think starting our story on the ship will work well.

That sounds good to me.

That's fine with me. I don't think you need a big backstory at the beginning. Coming up with backstory and character details as needed during play can be just as fun.

Agreed! And the background story sounds great!
