Thanks! Excited to start posting. Will wait for Chalrytharendir's description of the ship though.

I'm suprised that we're not doing XP. It's one of the main differences between this ruleset and the others you're comparing it to, and is a mechanic that profoundly influences how people play the game.

Hm, in which case, maybe I should incorporate XP into it, if it will help with making the best comparison. D&D has XP too, of course, just with the option to do it based on milestones rather than specific actions.

The way DW does XP is interesting - but couldn't it also be the case where one character levels up much faster than the others?

I went ahead and removed that part, so you can mark XP. We'll just see how it goes!

Yes, it's very different in that you are rewarded for failure. The ethos of "failing forward" is hard-baked into everything in DW, the goal being that failure should develop the narrative just as interestingly as success, or even more so.

But yes, it can result in uneven advancement if not all players are equally proactive. The GM can help somewhat by focusing the spotlight on those who are lagging behind but ultimately it's up to the players to keep the narrative moving forward and be rewarded for it.

Another thing I love about DW is End of Session, a 'round the table OOC post mortem of the group'd recent adventures. Obviously in the PbP there are no sessions, so this tends to occur at the end of each chapter or milestone.

I’m very interested in seeing how that goes then! This game doesn’t have chapters, but should have 3 Acts, which I’ll use as "sessions".

Btw you don’t need to wait for Mance’s description of the Symphony to post, but if you need reference, Chalrytharendir put references for it on their second post in this thread.

I'll post as soon as I form a clear picture of my homeland in my head. XD

BTW, I can't get over how awesome your DW sheet template is! I suggest you share it with the community via the Public Repository of Custom Games Sheets.

I apologize, but the start of the game came at a little bit of a bad time. I just travelled back home for Christmas. I might be able to post later tonight, but otherwise I’ll be busy with Christmas the next couple days. Happy holidays!

What exactly is the Diarchy of Uthodurn? I understand they control Nohme, but are we citizens of the Diarchy or are we independents? Are they benevolent rulers or are we not too excited to have them as rulers of Nohme? What is their relationship with Dwendalin and Kurn? Are they bitter rivals or currently peaceful towards each other?
Dec 23, 2021 4:47 pm
OOC:
Where your characters are from is up to you! The Diarchy is the governing body of Nohme and roughly the whole of the Greying Wildlands (though the distance of everything and the weather means there is not a tremendous amount of oversight and is the most laissez faire of the Wildemount governing bodies).

Eiselcross is not under the control of any governing body, but the outpost you’ll likely be headed to first is of the Diarchy, while the Cobalt Station is run by Empire citizens.

The Diarchy is a neutral party in the war between the Kyrn Dynasty and Dwendalian Empire.

OOC:
Okay thanks, and the crest we got is just to prove that we have official support from the Diarchy during our quest?
Dec 23, 2021 5:29 pm
OOC:
Yep! Specifically in this case they’ll also provide any supplies you need.

@Data How do you want to handle rolling for moves? At the table the player describes what he's doing, if the GM decides that triggers a Move they'll tell the player to roll it. After the player rolls, the GM narrates the result. Sometimes the resukt forces a player to make a difficult choice, so that's
yet anither exchange. In PbP that one exchange representing a split-second of in-game time can take a week or more of real time. One way I've found to streamline this is: players describe what they're doing, include in the post what Move they feel is appropriate, and leave it to the GM to adjudicate.

But it's your game, I'll go with whateveryou decide is best. ;-)
Dec 24, 2021 12:20 pm
That’s true - usually I would avoid that since I don’t have characters roll for everything, but with how DW is laid out I think the players can decide what moves make sense - I’ll mention if some are triggered and not mentioned or if one isn’t quite right.

Great! I attached discern Realities roll to my post. Use if appropriate, ignore if not.

The man never shuts up but Mance has only heard his partner talk about his homeland once, and only to call it a 'right pile o' shite'—a place drab and dreary where he never belonged.
Does that earn XP via Outsider?
Quote:
Outsider
You may be elf, dwarf, halfling, or human, but you and your people are not from around here. At the beginning of each session, the GM will ask you something about your homeland, why you left, or what you left behind. If you answer them, mark XP.

OOC:
It's a bit vague. How about this: if you give me the name of Bonepipe's homeland OR describe a more specific way it was drab and dreary/a pile of shite, you can mark XP.

OOC:
That's fair. Edited!

I got home a bit to late to post tonight (definitely half-asleep already), but I should be able to get the next part up later today. Sorry for the delay!

It’s been very difficult to find an hour or two to sneak away from family and update my games 😂 but I hope to be able to within the next day :)

@aquafina Great intro post! I think you're grandma's spirit is going to be a fun part of your character.
