Now sure that the tabaxi is indeed Radiza, Alan smirks, he may be a bit naive, this being the first time in his life where he's without a real backing, ofcourse he could always return to his duties, not now... Nor anytime soon.

On the other side the tabaxi knows her craft and has a couple of good cards up her sleeve, he has been at the both ends of the stick, and knows well that it's better not to go against her, so.. why not leave the talking to someone who's better than you, especially if it makes benefits...

He leans back ready to enjoy the showdown.

Milaki takes a mental note
so they wants us to kill orcs...cut their fingers to prove the kill...
and also to go see what happens to the old Alfonse.
She knows him, she used to go to his ranch. She was stealing some of his butter and putting it on warm bread...
She ignores the tantrum of the tabaxi and anger wanting to go kill the dragon at once. She was just closes her eyes thinking of the taste of the melting butter...miam and drools

Atticus leans over as he hears Alan speaks. We can go with what will pay better or with what ever sounds like it'll be more fun.

A nod of approval, he says back Let's see, if Radiza still has her iron grip.

He continues to watch the show of discussion between the mercenary and the council, ready to back the tabaxi up if it grows into anything more unpleasant.

Wilfra doesn't seem to change her demeanor much, even though you can see Daphisany start to tense up next to her.

It was ten gold per orc you kill. Obviously you're entitled to anything that they may have on them or in their clan camp if you find it. If you'd rather take a contract with Baulder's Gate and their coffers, by all means that is an option for you. We don't have the bank that a city of that scope has, by any stretch. Or are you saying more that you lack the tactical skill to handle some orcs creatively? she says, quirking a smile knowing how well a challenge worked for many of the mercenary types.

The man in armor at the card game coughs and nods his chin a bit in the air. Aye, the kitty is right though. Orcs are a bigger risk and makes me wonder if you aren't just quoting some number that sounds good to yo- he starts to say, before the tiefling slaps him on the back of the head.

Oy Eddie, let her finish. Plus, if these are those damnable Shattered Blade types, I'd do it for the sight of their blood on my blade. she says, before turning her eyes back to Wilfra. Do you happen to know which clan standard they fly?

I don't know, not off hand. However, if you insist on more, we can possibly do fifteen gold per orc, though the extra bounty on their mages won't be going up any further. As for the thieves specifically, we won't be supportin' an open bounty on killing them. Prefer the normal thief types be brought in for proper justice. If you bring them in and we can recover some of what they stole, how about we pay you five percent the value of the recovered lot? Ten percent if you recover the stolen goods.

At the mention of the stolen goods recovery prize, you see the elf and her pair of men look at each other with obvious non-verbal communication happening.

Cheapskates, the lot of them.
The Tabaxi wasn't overly impressed with what was on offer. And taking prisoners was a whole lot more bothersome than taking some bumpkins out at night. It meant needing more people to keep watch over them and that meant sharing the bounty a lot further. Easier to take their stash and sell it off and end up with several times the paltry bounty. Not the most reputable thing to do, but it was an unfair world. Truth be told Radiza didn't want to deal with the logistics of it though. That left hunting orcs.

"Sounds like you're awfully soft on those brigands, and that just makes my job harder. Nah.... I think I'll go look into the orcs instead."
She looked around the room.
"Anyone care to join me? We split the coin between whoever comes back alive."
The mercenary way...

I'm in... Atticus says as he stands up and answers Radiza. Looking over at his friend and comrade, Atticus flashes a grin. Eh..it could be fun.
Jan 16, 2022 10:13 am
He looks back. Alright, but I'm warning you, she could attempt to swindle. He stands up.

OOC:
So just a recap of where you all are and what you're doing so I can do next steps:
Radiza, Atticus, and Alan are going to join in on the orc hunt.

@Jackwolfking and @millyk - What are Auras and Milaki looking to get into? Going Orc hunting or some other activity?

If you'd like to split up, we can either do subthreads OR just play it out like we did the card game where it's all in here together and I can do headlines for which group is being discussed. Any preferences?

OOC:
lets just not split the party
Jan 22, 2022 4:51 pm
Wilfra's brow furrows very slightly at the comment about the brigands, but after a moment it passes and a smile spreads on her face.

If the orcs are your target, any assistance there is greatly appreciated. I'll tell you what, if you can bring in a half dozen of them, I'll make sure you have quarters here in town, private for any of you that help, for the next month in addition to any gold rewards. Including fare here at the tavern. she offers, hoping the extra enticement helps soothe the lack of bounty rewards.

The elf and her duo lean back in their seats. We'll gladly go find some ruffians on the trail, once this rain stops. she says after taking a drag on her pipe, drawing a chuckle and nods of agreement from both the dwarf pair and the card-playing foursome.
OOC:
If you'd like, we can jump to the next morning and can finger-wave the rest of the day in the tavern/town during the storm or you can choose to head out now in the weather and see if you can make progress against the other parties that seem to be hunkering down for the night.
Jan 22, 2022 7:33 pm
The Tabaxi nodded her agreement. It was a good offer and needed anyhow. It was time to get to work, and that started with knowing where to march off to. She beckoned over the ones who indicated they would join her.
"Tell us about the latest orc attacks. Where they hit you. Where you think they're hiding at. Your idea of their numbers. Why you think they have taken an interest. The sort of thing that will let us find them or lure them out into the open.."
OOC:
OOC: As long as there's a storm outside Radiza will want to find out what she can from the townfolk about the orcs primarily, although she'll listen to anything about the other trouble. Once it dries up she will want to set out.
Jan 22, 2022 10:23 pm
Alan signs, content with the promised reward, he sees Radizas actions and decides to join the briefing, in his years he learned that additional valid information is worthwhile, it can both make ones job easier and save life. Once at the table he nods to Radiza and takes a place next to her, waiting for further information. He believes that the Tabaxi has already recodgnized him.
Jan 22, 2022 10:41 pm
Atticus gets up and follows Alan over to where Radiza is sitting. Once there he listens to the briefing and tries to find any pertinent information that'll help them.
Jan 25, 2022 5:51 pm
Some of the townfolk head over to your table, you can hear the small clamour of voices start to rise up as Stephen raises his hands to quiet the crowd.

From what we've heard so far, they haven't exactly attacked the town directly, always outside on the road. It's not so long a ride between Triboar and the High Road, so within a two day ride either direction. Almost all of the attacks that we've heard about have been from the south, enough so that we're pretty confident they have some kind of camp in the foothills there that they can go back to. None of us are exactly mountaineers and tracking orcs was never my strong suit. We've heard that there are at least three of their spell-priests or whatever you call their wizardy types. For the actual orcs, there've been reports of everything from two working together to an entire army of hundreds of orcs. Don't exactly trust the drunkard that was convinced of the army, but no proper estimate of their counts unfortunately. he says in a bit of a rush.

The small gnomish woman perks up near the end. Why? Why do those oafs do anything? To ruin the good and light in the world clearly. They seem to take material goods, but not non-useful valuables. she says, nose wrinkling as she seems to be running over reports in her head.
Jan 25, 2022 7:11 pm
Radiza looked at the situation like a seasoned campaigner and gave her thoughts matter-of-factly.
"If it were hundreds the scouts over at Triboar would have picked up on it I think. Besides, with numbers like that they could just hit the town directly if they wanted to. And it's a lot of mouths to feed. Since they don't grow fields everything edible would've been picked clean for miles. Nah, it's not going to be hundreds."

Her chair-wiggling continued on as she contemplated her foe, as much for her employers as her future brothers in arms.
"Orcs are a pain, but they're not stupid. Good way to get killed that, thinking they're just dumb brutes. They're up there for some reason. Passing through, making a new home, who knows. I know one thing; once we start picking a few off left and right they're going to be right pissed. Best be ready for that. But last thing we want is a head-on confrontation. They're kind of good at that, so I don't want to play to their strengths. They likely rely on these raids for essential supplies. Picking off their raiders and hunters should be the first step. Make them go hungry a bit. Then they might start making some mistakes."

Milaki follows her company in silence and thoughtful.
Jan 28, 2022 3:05 pm
You see some nods of understanding among several people in the crowd. You notice that the other three adventuring groups all seem to be moving on from the briefing, some kind of a plan already secured in their minds. The foursome at the card table collect their things and head towards the rooms, while the two dwarves go over to the bar and talk with Baerum in hushed tones, too low to make out what they are saying. The elf and her two associates pull packs out from the table and settle sailor's waterproof coats around their shoulders as they make their way for the door.

The Council is very interested in your analysis, however. We certainly appreciate your not wanting to have a head-on confrontation. If there are supplies you need to help, or even extra hands if you're wanting to try building traps and the like, we're more than happy to arrange things.
Jan 29, 2022 3:04 pm
Milaki goes closer to the guy that said he can offer help and tells him. ''Oh great! I will need some golds for supplies to do, what I need..hmm....lets say .....10 golds?'' and smiles with her cute face.

For a second Alan eyes the pinkette and thinks...This one is no mercenary, its obvious that no self-respecting contractor would offer money, only material help and the requested items will have to be returned, or their value might be deducted from the pay, if its something more valuable than a couple hundred feet of rope. Anyhow should keep an eye on her.

Radiza, what kind of ambush you're thinking about? A simple wait in the bush and jump? Or a more elaborate one with a bit more planned out structure and a couple of traps?

Then he turns to the person that was giving them the briefing Could you please tell me a bit more about the biotope of the area that the orcs were spotted and foothills in general?
OOC:
Is the place going to be a grassy field, a forest, a swamp, rocky drylands? Was kind of creatures are a common occurrence there?
