Character Creation

Jan 29, 2022 12:11 pm

Race/Class:
(Some restrictions on race and class options in an effort to fit the setting, themes, and tone of the campaign)

- Race: Core Races
- Class: Core Classes, Hybrid Classes, Alchemist, Gunslinger, Inquisitor, Magus, Oracle, Witch, Occult Classes (warning: psychic spellcasting might be rough in this adventure - but thematically, they could be fun), Unchained Class Versions

Additional Notes:
- Ability Scores: 15 point buy. Minimum Wisdom score of 10 - Will saves shall be plentiful in this campaign.
- Archetypes: recommended as many are very thematic; if so, please choose from one of the many listed in the player's guide
- Alignment: Everyone starts with a clean slate, True Neutral. Your RP will dictate your alignment. Chaotic Evil is excluded.
- Traits: 2 Traits & 1 Drawback required; one trait MUST be from the Player's Guide. A 3rd trait is allowed w/ a 2nd drawback.
- Background: Identity is a key theme of this Adventure, therefore you will be required to submit a background for your character with the exception of the most recent 5 years of their life. The background may be as elaborate/thorough as you'd like, but should give me some understanding of who you were up to the beginning of your memory gap.
- Misc.:
----Elephant in the Room's Feat Tax system
----It is recommended you invest in at least one knowledge skill
----+1 skill point per level ONLY to be used in a skill you are proficient in AND is based on a mental stat
----Will saves will be important, it is recommended you don't neglect them
----You will face invisible creatures
----Expanded fear rules will be used
----Fear immunity will be changed to a type of fear resistance
----Corruptions will be used, if the right moment comes along in the story for a particular character
----The 'missing 5 years' of your memory will be largely crafted by the GM, but there will be strong effort to make it service the story and your character when eventually revealed

Hi everyone! Let's start here with each player submitting backgrounds for their characters. If there's any party (or even the whole thing) you'd prefer to keep hidden, feel free to use 'note' tags to mask it.

I'll be using the backgrounds to workshop with each of you where that takes them up to the point where the '5-year gap' starts in their memories. I'll attempt to use elements of your backgrounds in crafting those gap memories for later reveals.

Hi C1NDER! Thanks for the invite!

I have submitted Razhel for you to look over. I haven't built a Pathfinder character in two years. I hope I didn't forget anything.

Razhel is a Human Slayer. I have a very very brief beginning of her background at the bottom of her sheet, but its in no way finished.

Welcome Rage! Thank you for your submission, I loved the character concept. Post the background stuff when ready, no rush! I foresee trying to get going by the end of next week, so we have time.

Wow! C!NDER, this feels like deja vu. Have we been involved in a Pathfinder game together sometime in the distant past? 'grin'

Hello everyone!

My character, Grimjack, will be a Varisian Medium, gifted with the Harrow. He is the seventh son of a witch bloodline, whose talents were at the disposal of the Sleepless Agency in Thrushmoor before his memory loss. (more to come...)

I am considering taking the Relic Channeler archetype and tying the six spirits to the Harrow, using the deck and certain cards as the relics.

Hello everyone! I'm looking forward to gaming with everyone!

As far as characters go...I'll be playing a Human Oath bound Paladin. (Oath against Corruption). I'll hopefully have my character completed by tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

As for background information, I'm dusting off a background for a character that I never got a chance to use, so I'll be posting that soon.

Thanks again for the invite C1nder!

Am I correct in assuming that our characters have sort of lost "xp" along with their memory? Like when they did stuff during that time they were effectively higher level?

Hello, fellow challengers of the unknown! I hope to have my character mostly done by Friday.

Axon Hillock II, a brown-skinned human of average height and thin build, is a Void-Touched Sorcerer more attracted to the darkness between the stars than to the stars themselves. He is not physically the strongest but his mind and natural ability to channel the arcane are powerful. Cautious and a bit detached, he wants to stand under the night sky again more than anything but he can't remember why... and that scares him even more than the asylum. He has old scars on his face and body which are far too symmetrical to be random, hinting that he's been through a lot and survived. That gives him hope, and he hopes his luck will hold out.
annex sent a note to C1NDER
Can we use the Strange Æons campaign traits?
Feb 3, 2022 1:25 am
Oh yeah, what about starting wealth? Should we roll, take average/max?

As a matter of fact, one is required.

Hmm...something does feel oddly familiar :D FWIW, I miss your Dark is the Moon campaign and remember it very fondly.

Hello annex! Welcome to madness the game! As LoudKid mentioned up-thread, one of your traits MUST be one of the campaign traits.

For starting wealth, you may roll OR take the average, your choice. If you roll, you must take the result. The same rule will apply to HP as we level up. Starting gear can be handled as normal otherwise.

Mainly asking so I know what exactly my character was capable of before they konked out, to help inform backstory events. Like, he's not very capable at level 1. Level 10? Extremely capable.

A fair point and worth addressing for everyone a little more plainly.

@All - I think it's probably best if you design your character with the assumption that your character had nothing more than NPC levels prior to the beginning of the missing 5 years. Your character may have been influential, powerful in their own right, even high ranking amongst certain organizations. In the end, they shouldn't wake in the fugue state a lvl 1 PC but remember being more powerful than that.

It remains to be seen how much growth your character experienced during that missing time and how than now reflects back upon yourself when you learn of it. Maybe you were all lvl 10 assassins before you memories got wiped, or a traveling group of musicians? That said, as you awake in your fugue state at the beginning of the campaign, you should have some feeling of body disassociation. You will at once instinctually know how to how to use your class abilities, but also may not remember why or how you can do what you can do - only that you can.

I know this will feel weird. I'll work with each of you individually on your backgrounds until we're comfortable with them.

::EDIT:: Keep in mind also that the 'missing 5 years' is a minimum. At your own discretion you could wake up a complete blank slate, or remember only minor tidbits of your childhood, etc.

Just a reminder of the small homebrew skill point at the top of the thread. It's kind of in the middle of everything, but I wanted to make sure everyone accounts for it :)
Quote:
+1 skill point per level ONLY to be used in a skill you are proficient in AND is based on a mental stat
EDIT: proficient = class skill (I've barely even played D&D 5e, but here I am exchanging lingo...sheesh)
Feb 6, 2022 10:20 pm
To clarify: Is the +1 skill point an extra one on top of the usual for being Human and Favored Class?
