For what it's worth, I think we need to find whoever was controlling the skellies so they don't try and regroup and attack again later.

OOC:
Second that. Seems obvious they're hiding in one of these rooms.
edit: they may be coerced into guiding us through the rest of the tunnels?

The threat of the skeletons now past, Felor swaps his hammer back for the spear, and carefully enters the third archway.

Leth and Felor inspect the next two crypts.

Leth sees another pink granite sarcophagus and two large alcoves in the opposite wall. The one on the left is empty, but the one on the right contains a filigreed metal box shaped like a cathedral window, about three feet tall, fitted almost exactly to the shape of the alcove. There are incense burners and perfume boxes resting on the sarcophagus lid.

The crypt Felor inspects contains a whitish-gray limestone sarcophagus and several irregularly-placed niches, all of which are empty, save for one on the opposite wall where a clay oil lamp rests. The floor here is cluttered with parcels bound in disintegrating cloth, three ornate but worn folding stools that lean against the left wall, a 4' statue of a man with his right arm upraised and broken off at the wrist, and an overturned wooden bucket.

Reasoning that he can chase down anything that flees, Zangua waits in the main chamber while the others inspect the crypts. He readies himself for a sprint, like a hunting dog eager to be unleashed.

So far nothing is springing out of the crypts. The westernmost one remains uninspected.

Mordred tries the final crypt.

The last crypt holds a white marble sarcophagus. A large crack runs across the middle of the lid. There are no niches in this crypt, but faint charcoal outlines of the places where someone might have intended to carve them out. In the far left corner of the crypt stands a painted plaster statue of a cat, a crude wooden doll with looped strings of beads for hair, and a black-and-gold square box about ten inches on each side.

"If I were hiding," says Zangua, "I'd be in a place that wasn't so obvious. Like maybe even in plain sight. You sure that statue is made of stone?"

Although Leth is curious about the box, he is hesitant to open it or even touch it. He's not particularly fond of disturbing the dead or the dead's belongings... unless of course the dead disturb him first. Before physically engaging with the box he looks at it carefully to see if it looks like it has been opened or otherwise messed with recently.

Felor gingerly pokes the statue with his spear.

Mordred moves into the fourth chamber.

How wide is the crack in the sarcophagus lid? Does it look like it might be recent?

The box doesn't look like it's seen any action recently.

Felor pokes the statue. It reacts as statues do, it wobbles.

Mordred feels the sharpness of the crack with his finger. Based on the roughness of the edge, he...still doesn't know how recent the crack is. But it isn't so worn as to suggest it's been broken for ages.

Mordred attempts to open the cracked lid.

Mordred is able to lift and slide off the two pieces of the lid, but struggles a bit with it in a way he'd rather hoped not to.

There is a small -- child-sized, you'd assume -- wooden coffin inside the sarcophagus. A pair of stylized horns are painted on the top of the coffin lid.

Zangua maintains a watch of the perimeter while the others search. He pays careful mind to the passageway holding the skeletons, lest the undead begin a new charge.

Felor carefully flips the overturned bucket with his spear-tip, and then [assuming nothing lurks beneath] moves over to inspect the sarcophagus for signs of recent access.
Sep 6, 2016 8:09 pm
Felor flips the bucket and...nothing. It's empty underneath.

Which sarcophagus?

Felor sees no evidence that the sarcophagus has been disturbed recently, although he can't rule out that the lid hasn't been carefully removed and replaced.
