Welcome Airshark

Welcome Airshark.

I see you are new here. What at you hoping to get from this game?

Do you have any past experience: with this game system, PbtA (Powered by the Apocalypse) games in general, other RPG systems, or with PbP (Play by Post)? It is fine of you don't, we can teach you as we go along.

Take a look at the Help! thread for guidance. Feel free to ask any question here or in the General Chat depending on where they seem relevant.

You can find the Game's Rule Book copied here for easy access. You may find Character Creation section useful as well.

Welcome! :)

Hi,

Thanks for letting me join.

I've played a few RPG's (mostly warhammer-like) but never PbP. I've created a character, but I'm not sure on how to procede from here.
Should I make a short background story? Or will this develop during the story?

I'll do my best to check-in every day, some kind of notification would be nice ;-) don't know if that' s possible. I'll make sure to read all the rules before my first post. Feel free to comment if I don't do it the right way.

Is that Warhammer Fantasy, or the 40k one? Or both? What sort of games to you enjoy, what sort of genres if you don't know game rulesets?

Have you looked at (or played) any Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) games? These rules-lite styles of game leave a lot of the rules out, assuming the reader is familiar with the general principles of what they omit from other games.

This game system is spawned from Dungeon World (as part of the KickStarter). While you don't have to, and it can skew your expectations, you might want to look at those rules, they are all freely available on the SRD website. Any full PbtA game could help with familiarity, Apocalypse World started this whole thing off ('powered' it, you could say:), and is a good read (if you can get past the specific language used), but anything that fits your interests can be worth it.

That is not a problem. We are here to teach. Ask as many questions as you need.

While it is definitely not required, I can also recommend bowlofspinach's excellent Tutorial Game as a good way to become familiar with general PbP stuff. It is quick, but also a lot of fun.

Start with the links I posted above to get you going with the rules and procedures.

There is a summary of recent events to help you get caught up with what is happening in the story. Let us know if that helps or if you need more.
Airshark says:

Indeed. I find it almost required and things get a lot harder when the notification system is broken or on sites that don't have one.

Let us know if the Email Notification post in the Help! thread is not sufficient to get you started, or if the email notifications don't work for you for some reason.

You can tell us as much as you want about the character. Having a little to work with can aid the process of getting your character into the game. It should not be more than a sentence or two, though, and keep in mind that you are all Fresh Faced adventurers, none of you have ventured far from the home town (which we have not seen much of yet, but think 'generic fantasy') and not dealt with sorts of challenges you will be facing out here.

It can also be helpful to add a note about why your character would risk their life going out adventuring, and who they are leaving behind to do so.
In your party are Rook, a thief, motivated by gold; Albert a bartender... no, sorry, not anymore, he is now a cleric, driven by his god; and Dirk a grave-robber, um sorry 'archaeologist', motivated by a the search for eternal life, or some such malarkey. :)

Also two NPCs, 'the captain' of the guards of the caravan they were working for; and Asha, an enthusiastic guard who has tagged along.

No worries. We are friendly here and will help you learn the ropes. Ask questions if anything is unclear as you read the rules.

Hi

It was Warhammer fantasy, but I am currently also playing a dungeon world game, so I guess that will make things easier ;-)
Genres... I can enjoy both fighting and talking your way out of situations. Though getting things done without bloodshed is usually more satisfying. Most of the RPG's I've played had a medieval/fantasy setting. Or do you mean something else by ''genres'' ?

I will read all the links you posted.

I see there is already a thief in the party, would you like me to change the character I created?
Maybe a warrior of some sort?

I also would like to apologize for the lay-out (and spelling) of my text. I have to do this on my cell phone since my work-computer is blocking the website. Probably because it has "game" in the url, but maybe there is another reason, I'm not sure how it works. I can open the boardgamegeek website so... Anyway, I noticed you use quotes and bold text, I will try to do that too in game.

Now I have some reading to do 😉

Maybe... or more confusing due to the slight differences between that game and this one. But overall a little PbtA experience helps.
Airshark says:

Cool. I tend to prefer bloodshed as a last resort. Fighting can also take a lot of time in Play by Post games. They tend to be less combat-orientated than normal 'live at the table' games.

Let us know if anything is unclear.
Airshark says:

As with Dungeon World, character creation is a collaborative process, don't come to the table with a ready-made character. Read through the instructions and then we can talk about making a character. Ask if you need help.
Airshark says:

Maybe the dice will have their own ideas about what your Attributes are, and that will tell us what a good fit is for what you feel like playing?
Airshark says:
... have to do this on my cell phone ...
We are constantly working to make the site more friendly to phone users. Please let us know --once you have found your footing-- what areas are still giving trouble.
Airshark says:
... work-computer is blocking the website ... can open the boardgamegeek ...
Maybe you can talk to them about it, but there is then the chance that they will add boardgamegeek to their blocklist. (Like forcing people to use their phones for this stuff somehow makes them more productive than quickly getting it done on the computer. /shakeshead)
Airshark says:
... quotes and bold text ...
It can make it easier to skim back though posts to find stuff, but it is not required. Quotes on character's spoken text should still be used --as per standard grammar-- but highlighting with bold, italics, or colors is completely optional if it is hard on a phone.

So I read all the links you provided (tx)
I guess the next step is to roll some dice and put the results in de character creation thread?
I tried the 'rolls' tool beneath this reply window. But I can't seem to make it work.

Rolls

Rolltest - (1d6)

(5) = 5

Good.

Do we need to clarify any of the rules as written?

I'm gonna say No. But will probably have some questions/do something stupid in the first week.

I'll do my dicerolls this night (CET). And start discussing a character.
Should I edit the character I made last week, or just create a new one. (Roald the Thief)

This is the way. :)

Ah, we can use that same sheet. I have 'accepted' it without looking at it. We can work on the contents as the character develops.
