Chapter 1: Port Nyanzaru

A few years ago Ha'aroo used to live with an Orc tribe and had picked up a pretty cool trick from the Shaman in the tribe and wonders if it will work here. Ha'aroo walks to an area that is not very populated or out in the open and casts Speak with Animals. He then goes up to each one of the creatures and asks how they are doing. He tries to see if any of them love or hate racing and guage who is ready to run and who is just not feeling up to it today.

Travers is beaming all the way to the track, watching the races and reveling in the atmosphere.

When it comes time for the group to race he studies the animals carefully picking a hadrosaur thinking it to be the most horse like. With which he finds he is most comfortable.

Jim isn't a betting man but he will go with Ha'aroo to check it all out. "This might be interesting. More action than just walking around. Most likely."
Apr 5, 2022 3:17 pm
Walking around with Jim checking out the different creatures he turns to Jim and asks "You planning on getting on one of these and do a little racing? This is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity while we are here." Im debating between this Dimetrodon and that Deinonychus over there. It seems like most people go for the two leggers and this little one seems itching to go Ha'aroo says while looking at one of the Dimetrodon's in the eyes. "But on the other hand that Deinonychus looks pretty confident."

Ha'aroo recalls a time that Jim and himself worked together. "But yeah you know me. I gotta see what its like to live with the locals. It would be such an awesome addition to the book im writing."

Ha'aroo goes up to the four legged creature and asks, "you ready to go?" and sets off for the race with the rest. "he whispers in the dinosaur's ear "if you win ill bring by some meat for you tomorrow"

Nebula looks over the dinosaurs like she knows what she's doing and has a good feeling about one of them - but when she sees the odds on Mountain Thunder, she has to bet on them. She puts all her money down (that she assigned for the day) on the dinosaur, then cries when it comes dead last.

Seeing the others gear up, Nebula decides to join them. Most of the effects of last night wearing off. She declines the lashing stick, feeling sorry for the beasts and spurs her mount (of course, the fastest one she could see, ignoring the difficulty to ride) onwards through encouraging words alone.

She follows up at the rear, but in a respectable time. Nebula gives the Dino a big hug before returning to the stands. That was a lot of fun!

OOC:
@Tasrek - which dino did you choose? If it was "Allosaurus, young" animal handling was DC 16. If Dimetrodon then it run 30 normal and 50 on lashing, but you were adding 50. You probably did it based on my initially announced rules that I edited later, sorry for that.

In any case let's just assume Ha'aroo win with somehwere at round 10 or 11 because based on my calculations you would need 50 more feet and even dino fail con save you would do it in two rounds on lashing

So Ha'aroo was bold enough to try lashing his Dimetrodon for an easy win in the race. But you all had inspiring experience rinding the beasts
OOC:
All raiders get Inspiration if they did not had one yet
After the race, while delivering dinos back one of the bet takers approach you and congratulates Ha'aroo. I bet you chose the right dino for you! I made some good money on betting today.
You start talking about his business and when he hear about Travers background he explains that he need to collect a debt from a professional Gladiator. A dozen well armed man would probably be sufficiently intimidating for the man. I hope

Quest:
Debt collector K’lahu will pay is 10 percent of whatever is collected on the 500 gp debt, which is owed by a man named Taban (male Chultan human gladiator).
OOC:
I hope you enjoy some dice rolling even though it did not have any significant impact on the story. In any case you spend you first half of the day, you could either to the question on the second half or go shopping/touring/etc. just as yesterday. You could split - that is just fine, though debt collector suggested the more you are the easier it would be
Apr 6, 2022 7:27 am
Jim tells Ha'aroo, I knew you could do it. Well done indeed. and looking over Nebula, Sorry your dino wasn't so good. Looking to both, Why don't we check out the markets. Get a good guide and see what there is buy around here. I hope to get some more treats to eat too.
Apr 6, 2022 8:04 am
"That's okay, it was fun!" Nebula beams back at Jim.

"Yes! I wonder if we could buy some of those nice clothes everyone is wearing. We might fit in better too"
Apr 6, 2022 8:36 am
After handing back the Dino Travers approaches Ha'aroo Good racing, you were so fast he smiles and reaches to shake his hand.

Unfortunately there's not a dozen of us or we could try and make some more gold to spend whilst were here. What's everyone's plan for the rest of the day?
Apr 6, 2022 9:21 am
K’lahu: well half dozen may also suffice if they know how to impress a gladiator he punches the air when says word "impress". Though he would guess you are not type of person for the job, he may still be interested i the deal the other day: The job is legal should you be worried about it. So if you change your mind or happen to need easy money you know where to find me
Apr 6, 2022 12:24 pm
Pacan was all smiles when she got off the dino. Win or lose, it was an absolute thrill to ride something so strange!

That was absolutely amazing! her happiness evident in her tone. When she hears the man talking about collecting a debt from a local gladiator she sighs. Even here it seems that all folks cared about was getting their coin. But still, if one made a promise and broke it, that was worse.

I'd be happy to go along to help this man fulfill his promise to pay, if the others are interested. It would be nice to get a bit of extra coin. Like Nebula said, one of those local dresses looks so much more comfortable for this heat!

The one i picked was the Dimetrodon with the DC of 8. Sorry i must have read the rules wrong or you said an initial announcement of the rules. I was thinking if we beat the DC by 5 then we use the faster number and you only lash to gain adcantage on the DC roll. I was thinking the lower the dc the higher chances ill make id succeed on the the dc and hopefully hit the second number each round. Ill add another roll or two to get another 50m
OOC:
Also did the dinosaurs understand me and have a conversation before the races? Just curious.
Ha'aroo goes back to the group after talking to the better and presents the opportunity to the rest of the group. "I dont know about you but I should have brought a few more coins. I only have like 5 more gold left and I wanted to try a dinosaur tour or two before we go home. A little extra coin right now couldnt hurt." Ha'aroo says while shrugging his shoulders as an indication that he wouldnt mind taking the job if everyone else was down for it.

Ha'aroo is greatful for the teams kind words and thanks each one who congratulated him on the win as well as shakes Traver's hand when he reaches out for a handshake. I was thinking about going to the market and try to buy some meat for (Insert name of Dimetrodon if Ha'aroo had a conversation with it) as I promised I would get some if we won. And maybe get some new clothes. The local garments are the best kind of souvenirs. But now im debating on dino tour or clothes as there isnt enough money for both.

Before Ha'aroo leaves the racetrack with the group he walks over to the person he handed the dinosaur to and asks "Question do you know if there is anywhere in the city that rents out riding dinosaurs by chance? And if so how much it would cost? We met a lovely woman the other day who is trying to go to Camp Vengeance but is having a difficult time getting there."

OOC:
All dinosaurs are beasts as intelligent Crocodile both real life and DnD. If your PC think a cow understand him so would a Dimetrodon do :).
You learn following from those who treat dinosaurs: in city environment only small sized dinosaurs are used. For example Allosaurus - when it will grow it will be killed for food. It dangerous to keep large dinosaurs and expensive to feed them.
Small sized dinosaurs are fancy and could manage short races, but they much worse and more expensive than horses if you are looking for a mount.
OOC:
Draft horse as per rules cost 50 gp saddles 10 gp, it means in Chult it's full price is 240 gp for saddled horse, but you could get it down to 48 gp with aggressive Haggling

Excellent thank you. Just wanted to check when I did the speak with animals spell. The spell doesnt say it has a minimum or maximum intelligence that the beast needs to be. And yeah I wasnt sure if dinosaurs could be used as mounts outside the city. I know the Orc lady was saying she was hoping to get a horse when she got here and found out that horses are not good for this type of area.
