A touch quieter Jim watches and listens on. He is looking like he is ready to fight. He casts some guidance to help whoever is the next person to speak to the debter.
OOC:
Jim: Area Traveler's Clothing, No shield, Longsword in hands, AC(13), 21/21 HP, INIT 11

Reaction: Cast Guidance on next speaker

OOC:
Probably I need to state it somewhere in other threads, but here is my DM interpretation:
When a player cast spell with verbal component I assume he does so aloud and clear. It would usually mean you give up your location while hiding or behind total cover. In this instance you only give up the fact that you cast the spell. And only because I assume that person have seen the spell cast by other clerics
Quote:
Most spells require the chanting of mystic words.
It will technically not affect anything, but NPC role play, so I assume this is good moment to show it in action

Nebula, in the native clothes she bought earlier and a small crossbow dangling from her waist along with a long wooden rod, says a quick word and a ghostly hand appears beside the man.
OOC:
Casting Mage Hand
Using the same motions with her own hand, she directs it to prod and poke any pockets the man may have and test them for contents. "Surely you have at least a little sum on you. Everyone carries a little"

Question in regards to this. So spells can not be whispered or its assumed they are not whispered unless stated otherwise? Also for the mystic words can they be regular words or are they all just words in a sort of magic language? Im thinking like healing word the "Up" in "get Up" could be the word. Or visious mockery things like "Your mother smells like a goblin" or something could be the spell components. Or is the vocal componets more mystical like "shamala", "alakazam" ... Etc?

'He casts some guidance to help whoever is the next person to speak to the debtor.'

Yeppers. Debtor should know that when someone speaks to him that Jim is casting. Even if it is a Cantrip. I assumed that debtor knew this. Unknown if the Debtor knows what Jim has casted.

Travers having donned his chainmail, but left his shield behind, knowing the gladiator may have put up a fight, longsword drawn and a hand axe on his hip. He steps through the doorway looking around the room before speaking to Taban.

"You should ensure your debts are settled before stepping foot in the arena, what if you lost? you should hand over what you owe." he growls baring his teeth.

You all enter the room which is almost 20x30 feet large and have plenty of room for al of you
Room seems to work as kitchen and living room all together as you see a shelf with a bread and vegetables in the corner. There are stairs on the second floor and trapdoors under stairs - appears there is a basement. Nothing indicate that a man is poor.
When Nebula cast mage hand and shake coin purse on the gladiator's belt. You all hear sound of coins - there should be at least a dozen coins in the purse.
Gladiator don't seem to impressed by any of your words. He takes his coin purse off the belt and put somewhere under the table - you can't see because there are some chests under the table.
Taban: Oh I see, you brought some spell casters this time. I'm not impressed! I need this money to eat. If I don't eat I can't fight. If I can't fight I can earn money, can't return my debt! So get out of my house if you want to get your money ever.
K’lahu: You lie. I know about you everything. You are saving money for jungle expedition. You hope find riches. You are fool, you will die in the jungles. If you die who will pay your dept?! Return your debt and then go kill yourself in jungles!
Taban: I said get out. Next pick a real man in your company ; not chickens like those. Then we talk.
You a shield done on Taban left arm as he rise. It appears he have been hiding another shield under the table and used time to done it. There are multiple spears on the wall behind him, but he is not yet touching any of them.
OOC:
Done a shield requires an action

K’lahu turn to your group: Well I guess it is time for you to earn your money. Unless you agree with Taban.
OOC:
Gladiator seems arrogant and angry, but not yet directly aggressive. K’lahu suggest to "initiate a combat" and beat him up.
Please this time do roll initiative and describe your PC location in the room and optionally one more non-combat action. Combat actions will be in turn order, because it looks like you will hardly solve this quest without fighting. Without fight you could but retreat.
Your PC location is either front- line (middle of the room) or somewhere behind.
K’lahu is in the middle of the room (front line)

Ha'aroo stands in the back and starts spreading out among the others in the back row.

"Friend you are not being honest. If you owe this man money, then the money does not belong to you. You do not want to mess with us. You dont know what we are capable of. A mighty glatiator against a mighty glatiator could be an equal fight but a mighty glatiator against a mighty glatiator plus allies wont be good for you." Ha'aroo indicates there is a glatiator among them while inspiring Travers with bardic inspiration as he has his allies that has his back.

Pacan is near the back of the room, taking note of the shield on the man's arm. I wonder, has he ever faced a bear? she thinks to herself feeling her connection to the land surge in the back of her mind as she tightens her grip on her staff. Perhaps best to keep that a secret for now...

INIT 11 for Jim.
Jim cast Faerie Fire on the back side of the room to encompass the debtor in color. Surrender the gold and live better. That glow you have now will finish you. Surrender. Brilliant blue light fills the area and tries to stick to the Debtor.

Nebula stands at the back of the room beside Jim, having not moved much further in since entering the room.
She wrestles with the situation, as her feelings towards Taban grow sympathetic. But no - he hadn't seemed anyway amenable to any of her companions' reasonable suggestions. She feels the air getting tense and readies herself.

Taban cries: Fight will prove who need to surrender. Drop weapons to surrender! and he grabs the spear from the wall.
K’lahu steps back seeing that and nervously look at 4 of you crowded at the rear wall.

We wait for Travers initiative and then we try to manage our first battle. Jim will be able to cast his spell in his initiative.

Stepping forwards Travers smiles a toothy smile bringing his sword up into a ready position.

"give it up Taban you're outnumbered, pay up then head off into the jungle if that's what you wanna do"

OOC:
Travers, your intimidation was a success, but you will only narrate the result after the fight, because it only affect events after.
OOC:
This will be run as TotM and since everyone in the room is within 30 feet I will only distinguish between in melee with enemy ("here") or not ("away"). And because enemy has lowest initiative it hardly matters who is closer to him. Any mechanical question - please ask them in OOC chat
Since Jim is casting offensive spell we begin the battle ( I would like to insist that Jim's action for this turn is the spell casting, while you could describe any movement BA on top of it)

OOC:
Now I am waiting for your turns submitted in any order - you don't need to submit them in the initiative order, but I will resolve them in that order.
Apr 12, 2022 12:59 pm
As the fight begins Ha'aroo mutters "you wanted this" and flicks a droplet of blood from his hand that launches over to the gladiators head as if it was a homing missle and splatters against the glatiator's forehead as Ha'aroo casts bane. Ha'aroo give Jim a bardic inspiration.

OOC:
TOTM is Theater of the Mind, it means we don't have a tactical battlemap showing positions and such. We keep track of all that "in our minds" and some flexibility is given for things like shaped spells and area of effect things.
Pacan sighs as the man decided to take the path of testing them. Drawing in a heavy breath she flexes one hand, feeling the land's magic course through her. Rapidly, her body shifts, her stick and gown seeming to melt as her body twists, hunches, and thick brown hair begins to grow out. She stretches high up on her back paws as her transformation into a large brown bear. With a quick dash forward she closes the gap to end up next to the gladiator, taking a swipe at him.
OOC:
If for any reason, the Gladiator gives up the fight prior to Pacan's turn or if he is knocked unconcsious prior to her turn, she will not take the following actions.

Nebula moves into action as she sees her companions beginning to teach this gladiator a lesson.

She takes a step forward and holds out a hand towards the creature. A sharp pang of pain drives through her head as she calls upon her power, channelling it through her mind, to her body - and out her fingertips towards the man! The pain she feels eases as it moves invsibily through the air and into his mind, trying to claw its way inside.

Seeing the opposing gladiator grab a spear Travers moves around swinging his sword with both hands before changing the direction of the attack at the last second feinting Taban.
OOC:
Travers would be aiming for non lethal damage at least to start with

OOC:
When you do melee weapon damage you could announce it to be non-lethal (it will not affect amount of damage). I assume for this battle it is your default behavior. Ranged and spell attacks are all lethal.
Now will try to resolve everything in order, updating this post, so please wait for my next post with enemy turn
nameinit location Round 1 turn
Travers15 away get to melee and attack for 9 HP
K’lahu14 away dodge, looks afraid
Ha'aroo13 away Bane+bardic, stay away. Bane save PASS
Jim 11 away Faerie Fire. Save PASS
Nebula 9 away Mind Sliver, FAIL. 2 damage
Pacan 6 away Turns into bear, bite miss but claws hit Gladiator for 20 damage
Taban3 against wall TBD (will have -1d4 for next save)

Taban turn
Taban makes a bold move - he bash Travers with a shield and run toward Nebula and Jib who are next to each other and attack each with a spear. He is probably used to fight for a show rather than for win and is not concentrating on a single opponent
OOC:
Note: You could always roll potential damage yourself for spells like Mind Silver, if you don't I'll roll for in order to not delay the game. I could ignore the roll if it does not hit just as I do with i.e. melee attacks that does not go over AC
