Ah, thanks. Yeah revised version looks good so I think I'll go with that, will get the character submitted in the morning.

Silene lives deep within the woodland, outcast as a "witch" yet still consulted by the locals for whatever natural remedies, omens, or divine portents could be gleaned from the stones and bones. Typical "crazy old lady" of the olden times, except she's not that old, just strange.

Her residence lay in close proximity to Béke's wood elven community, though without question there would be other villages within a reasonable distance.

If your ranger often hunted in the woodland, no doubt he would have come across the druid, especially if his targets were undead. Silene could tell him about the surrounding region as well as what she may have discovered regarding his undead prey.

Finally, she might have mentioned to him in passing that she was headed into town for an extended trip. Birdsong tell of strange unnatural creatures and she's going to investigate. Could be that's his reason for joining the group.

Or to give you another reason for joining the group, I do have a side story that fits your character and gives him a reason to be in the area.

I'm honestly happy to go with whatever would be the easiest way for you to get me in the game :)

Character is done and submitted now, everything is pretty much standard options from the PHB and UA Ranger article, only thing I did extra was to buy 2 x flasks of holy water but I'm happy to scratch that if you want me to leave off buying stuff until I'm in the game.

Well either way is easy, it will just take awhile as the party is in the middle of exploring a hidden cavern that no one knows about. So I can only logically introduce your character when they come up.

As for the holy water it is fine, it would make sense for your character to have some. Though, looking over your sheet, not sure if it's a typo but you put 110 gp. You can also put all your proficiencies and languages in the notes section. Makes it easier for me to find the feats/abilities that are more relevant and in my opinion makes the sheet look neater.
Something like this just to clear up your feat/abilities.

Armor: Light, medium, shield
Weapon: Simple, Martial
Languages: Common, Elvish, etc.
Tools: Vehicle (land), Chess
Dark vision

I'll go with the option that CancerMan laid out then, give's me a good in for the group that way.

I've tidied up the sheet as you suggested, definitely looks a bit clearer! Yeah it was 160 - 50 for the 2 holy water's (25 gp each in the PHB) so he's got 110 left.

Ooooh okay, I see what happened.
From the PHB pg. 143: When you create your character, you receive equipment based on a combination of your class and background. Alternatively, you can start with a number of gold pieces (ie. your 150*) based on your class and spend them on items from the lists in this chapter.

If your chose the alternative where you roll for your gold, your total would come to 211 gp 10 sp.

Ok confession, I am dumb and don't know what echolocation is, I've been playing the darkmantles all wrong. For the sake of time and my own mistake, I'll skip ahead past this embarrassment.

I will be out of town, I believe, October 1st through October 3rd. During which I probably won't be able to continue the story, as I won't have any of the games stats.

@CancerMan, I may be able to continue in your game, figured I'd post here and kill two birds with one stone.

The light isn't completely disappeared, only a 15 ft. radius originating from the last location you saw of the darkmantle. The lantern is still on and working, so those without dark vision can see around the cave, however no one can see into the 15 ft. radius of darkness.

Silene would also have to hold her action if she is going for melee.
