Kenku

The kenku opens its beak, glances at Vinny, and then closes it again. It edges its way to the door, before taking flight. But not actual flight, because, y'know, no wings.

The warehouse is yours.

Jodelle watches the kenku leave the warehouse, hoping that it won't inform its superiors.

She considers pocketint a bottle of Plume's Blight, with a little luck she could use it as a stink bomb. But she decides against.

"So, what have our feathery friends been doing here, except selling cheap stink? Based on what he said, it looks like they've been tying up someone and dragged them to the sewer? Should we have a look?"

She pockets a bottle of blight anyway. It would always smeller better than the sewers of Waterdeep.

A spike of pain in her side reminds her of the dirty short sword she was stabbed with. Not too deep, but it stings like the Abyss.

Fynn gasps, noticing Jodelle's wound. "Lorem ipsum decorum!"

"If I was that Kenku, I'd probably just lie and tell my enemies the secrets were in the sewer to throw us off the scent of the trail and replace it with an even more unpleasant scent. Do we have any other leads?"

"You Think The Boy is here?" Vincent asks as he begins looking among the various boxes and crates hoping to find someone or something,
"I don't get it why would the door have a black viper on it? after all it seems obvious that these Kenku we're not the black viper and I don't think that they killed the black viper either perhaps the boy?"

Vincent hears a noise from beneath the stairs. The door to this storage closet hangs loosely on broken hinges. The cramped chamber beyond smells strongly of sour fish and vinegar. It is filled with discarded ropes, canvas tarpaulins, and splintered wood from smashed barrels.

Vinnie hears ragged breathing coming from under a tarpaulin at the north end of the room. Pulling it back reveals a bedraggled young noble Revember cowering in the stinking detritus. He smiles up at Vincent nervously.

"Hello, it's good there is one who can speak who may enlighten us on the situation, lad, what in tarnation occurred in the location?" the rhyme clearly annoys Vincent, he doesn't have the highest opinion of Poets and so he has a similar opinion of rhymes but what can be done?

"First, are you alright?" Patience talks over Vincent. "Do you need food? water? a moment to cry?" he offers.

Renaer's lower lip wobbles as he nods at Patience's offer of a moment to cry.

After a good sob, he collects himself enough to recount what happened.

He and Floon were drinking in The Skewered Dragon, but Floon was too intoxicated to find his way home by himself. Renaer offered to escort Floon. They were jumped by five Zhentarim thugs as they headed north on Zastrow Street, and taken to this warehouse.

Then the Zhent thugs who kidnapped them were attacked by the Xanathar gang inside this warehouse.

The Xanathar took Floon away, but Renaer believes that Floon was taken because he believes that they mistook Floon for him - and Renaer was too scared to correct the misunderstanding. Later Renaer slipped his bonds and hid. He could hear the Xanathar kenku searching for him.

"The Zhentarim thinks that my father embezzled a large amount of gold while he was Open Lord and that he hid the dragons somewhere in the city. They think they can find it by using an artefact called the Stone of Golorr, which was in the hands of the Xanathar Guild until recently. Apparently, someone stole it. The Zhents thought I knew something about all of this, but I don’t. My father and I haven’t spoken in years."

Jodelle stans by Renaer as he tells his tale. Putting a hand on his shoulder. The details about the Zhentarim and Xanathar and his father are hard to follow really.

"Poor guy, you two. Both got involved in a war between two gangs of bad folk, for something your father did?"

She shakes her head.

"Do you know where they took Floon? The kenku said something about sewers, but have you seen them actually take him there?"

For all is worth, they'd taken him upstairs first. That would save a trip through the Waterdeep sewage, which couldn't be a good thing.

Renaer nods, "They did mention sewers, and something about yellow markings and Fishgut."

He then starts sobbing again, as he suffers with survivors' guilt.

"I'm not sure what to think, I believe that we a capable of escorting this boy home however, Renaer where are you supposed to be right now?"
May 16, 2022 2:03 pm
"Mmm, I'm sure this will all work itself out in the end. Even in Waterdeep, justice always catches up." Patience nods. "Right!" He agrees with Vincent "Let's get you somewhere safe"
May 16, 2022 6:28 pm
Jodelle nods. "Yes, we need to take Renaer somewhere safe. Still, what about Floon... I mean, mr. Volo asked for an article about him too... What if we did better and actually saved him? The reporters of the Wazoo actually being the headlines of the Wazoo..." she looks a bit dreamily at the idea.

"You know what they say, a good journalist always makes themself the hero of the story!"

Fynn takes on a more serious tone. "Yes, we absolutely must help Floon."

"Fie! I shall not sit idle and abandon my companion." Exclaims Renaer.

"Furnish me with one of the fallen rapscallion's blades and we shall storm the foe's lair together!

I'll have you know that the blood of kings flows through my veins."

He holds a hand out, expecting one of you to fetch him a shortsword. When it becomes clear that you're not squires he retrieves one himself.

Renaer holds the kenku's dirty, dented shortsword aloft in what he imagines to be the sort of heroic pose struck by bygone kings of lore. But his pretensions are rather undercut by his next proclamation:

"To the sewers on Fishgut Alley!"

"All the greater a purpose of ensuring you inviolability." Vincent mutters.

but he turns to the boy, "are you learned in proficiency with axes? because a surplus is readily available to those of my class"

the true reason that Vincent wants Renaer to have an axe is because he's learned of a certain type of rat infesting the sewers that can only be killed by beheading and it is much easier to behead with an axe.

"You are coming along with us?" Jodelle asks. She looks a bit uncomfortable for a moment.
"Sure.... just... you know... don't die. It would make really bad news and I dislike getting in trouble with nobility."

Still, she reaches out her hand to shake Renaer's.

"Let's go find your friend!"
May 18, 2022 9:38 am
Patience gives a similar look of concern to the party and makes a mental note to protect Renaer if they were to exchange more blows.

"Right, the story!" Patience takes out a notepad and writes down a brief description of the scene and the battle that ensued.
