Chapter 2: Service to the Following
Apr 27, 2022 8:47 am
The next morning, the camp is bustling with activity. Already a ditch has been built for smoking of the moose meat so it'll last longer, even though some of it already been used for a stew. Others depart to collect spring herbs, hunt small game, or forage root vegetables nearby. Nearly everyone chatters excitedly about the upcoming Green Moon ceremony.
You are all approached by Letsua who tells you he and Grandfather Eiwa want to meet you. You follow him to Grandfather Eiwa's tent, where he waits outside.
Seeing you, he greets you warmly and immediately starts speaking. "Young ones. Wipa says good things about your scout training. Said you might make good Mammoth Lords someday, ha! Let us hope so." He smiles broadly, and his weathered face crinkles like parched earth. "The Green Moon rises three nights from tonight, and its light will mark you as true Broken Tusks. But there are still many things that must be done if we’re to be ready for the ceremony."
"Three things, exactly," trills Letsua. He steps forward, even taller than Eiwa. "First, the ritual site at Rockloom must be scouted, cleared, and secured before the Green Moon ceremony. Second, we need you to carry fragile ceremonial vessels and fill them with water from the Gornok River. Third, there are some tapirs nearby which we seek to add to our herd; capturing them would go a long way toward your training."

OOC:
DM, do we know where Rockloom is, and how far away? Same question in respect of the Gornok RiverApr 27, 2022 10:04 am
OOC:
Each assignment would probably take the better part of a day. You have three days, however so that shouldn't be a problem. The site of the Broken Tusk’s ancient Green Moon ceremony is a semicircle of tall standing stones the following calls Rockloom. It is an ancient place of animal spirits. It has been used to observe the Green Moon for generations. Rockloom is roughly semicircular, stretching more than 200 feet across from end to end. Thirteen standing stones comprise the monument. The mammoth stone in the center is the largest, standing 25 feet high, with its crown carved in the shape of a trumpeting tusked mammoth head. The dozen other stones have carvings of the other animals of the Broken Tusk houses

Do they need to be done in a certain order? Atticus asks once Letsua finishes speaking.

Igbork stretches and yawns How about we get the water first? After the exhausting hunt yesterday I feel like we could need a day of relative rest. And carrying water shouldn't be too exciting or exhausting.

"I agree, water today, then maybe the tapir? If we wait until the day before the ceremony to clear Rockbloom, there should be little chance of anything going out of sorts before the ceremony itself." Haitith listens silently nearby, alert but seemingly bored by the discussion. "Where are the ceremonial vessels at right now? We can go by and pick them up before we head to the river."

A skeptical look flashes across Atticus's face at the mention of Pakano's name. We should head over and get started.

Pakano
The ceremonial vessels to be filled with water are four tightly woven, brightly colored baskets of different shapes. Pakano has grabbed one of them, so three baskets remain. Leather straps make carrying a basket on one’s back easy, and each is sealed with a waxy sap to ensure it doesn’t leak.
OOC:
An empty basket is 1 Bulk; a basket filled with water is 6 Bulk.Apr 29, 2022 6:00 pm
Koram grabs up a basket and straps it onto his back. "Not too bad so far," he says. He rushes to stay with Pakano.

The Druid walks to the bank side, kneels down and begins murmuring, only barely audible to those near by. Finally he plunges both hands into the Gornok River and washes his head and face with the water he scoops out. "We must honour the water of life", he says, then standing and looking at the party, adds, "the basket is heavy, will one of you help me bare the load?’

Atticus follows everyone to the river, assisting where he can. As he hears Grom speak, Atticus steps forward. I'll help bear the burden.

It does not take long to fill a vessel. Grom who is quick to the river is the first to notice the water is a bit murky—floating along its surface are bits of charcoal ash, as though from a large fire upriver. Cloudy weather and rolling hills, however, make it difficult to determine whether
or not there’s really a fire somewhere that way.

Looking around the riverbank you notice nothing unusual aside from the ashy water, except Grom who spots a long wooden spear jammed into a thatch of reeds along the river’s far bank.
Apr 30, 2022 11:55 pm
As he rubs his finger and thumb, Grom’s peripheral vision is disturbed by an unnaturally straight shape. Looking up, the Druid sees what appears to be a wooden-shafted spear amidst the thatch of the opposite bank of the river. Excitedly, he shouts, "Look! Hither", and then wades into the water and swims to the far bank
